WebOS 1.3.1 Memory Leak? (too many cards)

OK.  I am fairly sure 1.3.1 has some sort of memory leak and or other major issues.
I have a I have a Rev A Palm Pre From sprint P199EWW.  I have had it since launch with only your typical Pre / WebOS problems.
One of the applications often use is m:Vampire. Laugh if you will it helps me kill time.  I have not added ANY new applications since before 1.3.1 and rarely use many other apps outside of the standard core apps.  Now after I have updated to 1.3.1 I am getting slow performance, especially with the email and web browser.
Today I was playing m:Vampire and got an email.  I taped the email to read it and I got the "too many cards" error.  This has never happened previously.  m:Vampire was the only application i had been running when the email notification arrived
I have tried rebooting and resting but the problems always seem to come back.
It's really aggravating because I know these issues didn't exist before 1.3.1

I got the too many cards issue too today, but I had 8 opens, so i closed 4 of them, waited a bit for the memory to free, tried to open any app again and still the same issue, too many cards. I had a small word document opened for 3 days so I closed it and the problem went away. Either Word doc viewer eats lots of memory if left opened or the the OS doesn't free up memory very well when you close cards.... Dev team should check on that I think.

You need to find the "Update" app and run it.  It will check to see if your phone needs an OS update, or if any programs you've installed from the App Store have been updated.

  • "Too Many Cards Open" Problem

since I updated the last update on my pre whenever I try to use a email link I get a too many cards open message even if there is only one card open. Then when I close everything and try to open a new email card or web card I get the same message until I restart the phone. Has anyone heard if this?
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

    Hello paktec,
Are you using an HP Touchpad?
If you are experiencing the issue on a TouchPad try closing the applications and relaunching whatever new applicatiion you was trying to use.
If you are done with an application that you are not going to use again for while try completely closing the application before launching a new one.
There are two ways to close applications on the device.
    1. Swipe the application up off the top of the screen
    2. Pull the application down and slingshot it off the top of the screen.
By doing option 1 you are suspending the application in the background allowing it to open quicker subsequent times. By doing option 2 you are completely closing the application out. Opening the application later will take a little while longer, but if the application has a memory leak you will not run into any problems of it using memory while being in a suspended state.

  • Too many cards warnings & weak GPS signal

I keep having problems more & more often with my Pre (I'm on the Sprint network, if it matters).  At least once a day, I get the 'too many cards' warning, even if I just have one page open.  It's especially frustrating when I'm looking at a website (with nothing else opened/running) & want to click on a link but it can't open up because I supposedly have too many cards!  The only thing I can do is restart the phone, which takes forever, & then try to get back to whatever website I was on to start over.
The other problem that keeps happening is that the GPS signal is weak when I'm in Sprint Nav & trying to drive somewhere.  Having to restart the phone makes navigating somewhere I don't know next to impossible (not to mention unsafe/illegal to operate while driving).  And because of problem #1, I have to restart my phone frequently, so I don't understand what's going on.  Before the TMC problem, I would just restart my phone when the GPS signal wasn't working & that would solve it, but since I restart it all the time as it is, this is just crazy.
I know that these issues have been addressed before, but I wanted to add another request for Palm to fix these problems (& while you're at it, please add a way to sync tasks & memos with a computer, & add categories to the calendar like in PalmOS!).  Has anyone come up with a realistic solution (one that does not involve having to restart ad nauseum)?  The only apps I have on my phone are from the app catalog & I don't even have that many of those so memory should not be the issue.  Help!

Please search for "iPhone GPS problem - SOLVED".
It's not solved for everyone; I have a problem on a 2G that never got fixed, but the way I read the posts there and my problem there are a number of different causes for this, some of which are software; mine -might' be hardware.
Look over there and try the various proposed solutions and see if any works for more than a small amount of time.
Since you posted back in June you might have found a solution to this, but you're still "unanswered" as of today Sept 25.
I'm noe on Firmware 3.1. Which firmware were you n when you posted, if you can remember? Some people got problems after a firmware update - mine -could- be due to updating from iPhone 2.2.1 to iPhone 3.0.

  • 'Sorry, Too Many Cards' message NOT rendering correctly

I'm seeing the 'Sorry, Too Many Cards' message not render properly for me on Palm Pre 1.3.1. I rebooted the phone and was able to reproduce the problem by opening up many cards. I have uploded a screenshot: http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/6525/browser20091511171212.png
As you can see, the 'OK' button is not rendered correctly. If I remember correctly it supposed to be a green button? Also, the right side box is supposed to have an icon or something. I've never seen this error message NOT rendered properly before 1.3.1.
BTW, like others have posted - once I get to a memory threshold I can't even open up core apps - like 'Device Info' (in case I needed to reboot the phone). I would have expected some high availability on these apps w/r/t memory management.
I would upload more debugging information if I knew how on the Pre. But like I said I was able to reproduce on 1.3.1 before and after a reboot.
    Thanks,

I'm having the same problem. Usually I will have Tweed open along with the Camera app. I try to send a photo by email and I get the "too many cards open message". Sometimes when I turn the screen off and turn it back on it fixes it. But today I only had the Photo app open and was trying to send a photo by email and i got the "too many cards open message". The same happens when I only have one program like the emailapp then click on a link. Right now I have NO apps open. I'm trying to open the camera app and it keeps giving me the warning. It's very annoying, especailly when you are trying to do some quick. Oh don't get me started on the the slowness of the system ...

    You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

  • Too Many Cards??

While trying to download apps from the catalog, I get the message "Too many cards".  I'm confused.  What do they mean?  Am I only allowed to download a pre-set number of apps?

I get the "too many cards open" error message, but I am only opening 1 (like clicking on Web icon) -- so I'm not sure why I would get the message. Any suggestions?
My daughter also gets the same message on her Palm Pixi.

  • How Do I Fix Too Many Cards Error?

I am constantly getting the too many cards error whenever I use the web browser. Not to mention that my phone is slow ever since upgrading to Web OS 1.4 and restarts for no apparent reason.
What can be done to resolve this problem?

Unfortunately, for now, it seems that restarting is the only way around it. I'm coming from a Windows Mobile phone where I had to reset practically every day so maybe I'm just used to it, but I don't usually have to reset the Pre any sooner than every 3-4 days and that seems alright by me.
You can reset the phone without taking out the battery by holding down the power button while the screen is on, selecting "power" and choosing the reset option. Alternatively, you can hold down the Orange, Sym, and R buttons together if your phone is too wonky to even bring up the menu.
Hopefully Palm will fix this in their upcoming patch.

  • "Too Many Cards" message

I didn't really know for sure which section of this forum to post this problem, so hopefully this is close.
I keep getting the error message "Sorry, Too Many Cards. Please toss away any you're not using... etc." even though there are no cards open, and it has been a problem for several days.
It's a big problem because it won't let me download updates, view the internet, or even make calls sometimes.
Sometimes it fixes itself when I turn the phone on and off, but sometimes it goes on for up to an hour and it's very annoying.
I'd appreciate any feedback that might help me with this bizarre problem!
    Thanks!

Hopefully this isn't a silly question, but by "turn my phone on and off" do you mean just hit the power button put the phone to sleep and then hit it again to wake it up? If so, then you need to reboot the phone. That will solve the problem, at least until you've opened enough of the right apps for the problem to occur again.

  • Too many cards on Palm Pre

is anyone else gettin the message too many cards open please close any you are not using? This is happening without any open. it just happened to me and i had just finished adding a contact and had flicked the contacts off screen and tried to open calendar. i have only had the pre 2 weeks and this has happened 4 times. it is on Bell in Canada.   tks

    Hello and welcome to the forums;
What applications are you using just before you notice this error? Some apps such as 3-D games, web, maps, and email can use up a lot of system resources, which may cause this error even after the cards have been closed. Try closing all open cards and restarting your phone by following these steps:
    1. Hold down the power button
    2. Slide the ringer switch back and forth
    3. Repeat step 2
    4. Repeat step 2
    5. Release power button
    6. Wait a few seconds device screen should go black and then reboot
Try then to open whatever application you were getting an error on. Most likely, you will be able to open it with no problem. If this problem reoccurs, or you find yourself restarting your device frequently, you may want to contact our technical support department for further troubleshooting steps.
    Hope this helps,

  • Too many cards open

I have seen on the forums that people got this problem with one of the older releases of the software even when they had no cards open at all.  I've just started getting it on 1.4.5. in the UK.  Is this a recurrent 'feature'?

Im not asking how many cards you have, just how many you actually keep on you? My wallet is getting full due to my recent spree, and it made me wonder what I actually need to keep on me? I only keep 4 credit cards + my Sam's MC, since it doubles as a membership card. Usually, I have my AmEx EDP, AmEx Platinum, CSP, and the 4th being whatever I am rotating in. I couldn't imagine the nightmare of calling to cancel/obtain replacements if I ever lost my wallet with too many cards in it. I don't ever carry my debit cards because I don't like having a direct link to my funds being exposed to skimmers and dishonest store clerks. Additionally, the idea of losing a debit card is too frightening for me.  Banks are a lot less apt to recover anyone else's money but their own.
