Webpages loading slowly

I have had my computer for over a year and never had any problems until the last few days. When I am on the internet the pages are loading so slowly and sometimes don't load at all. Has anybody got any ideas what I could do to improve matters. I have a broadband connection.

These articles should be to help.

  • Fast Internet Connection, but webpages loading slowly

    Hello everybody,
this is my first post in this community. So far this group has helped me to solve all kinds of problems I ran into by simply browsing the forum, but this time I hope that somebody might be able to help me directly.
My wireless network at home consists of an AirPort Extreme Base Station (4th Generation) and an AirPort Express Base Station that are both connected via Ethernet to a Cisco Router. I have a cable internet connection and I use the Cisco Router (which was provided by my ISP) as an interface between the cable socket and my two Apple base stations. However, only the AirPort Extreme Base Station is used to create a wireless network. The AirPort Express is used only for AirPlay.
For a couple of months now, I have been experiencing an odd problem. Webpages take a very long time to load on my MacBook Pro (13'' Retina display), my older MacBook, as well as on my girlfriend's MacBook Air (11''). Sometimes the pages load for so long that there is a timeout before the page is loaded completely. I experience this with all kinds of web browsers (Safari, Firefox, Chrome). The odd thing is that only the loading of webpages seem to be affected. Internet Downloads, Video Streams, etc. are still extremely fast. I get the following results on speedtest.net (after spending 1 minute to load the page):
    - Ping: 9ms
    - Download Speed: 38.55 Mbps
    - Upload Speed: 7.62 Mbps
Also, when connected to the network with my iPad or my girlfriend's iPhone, pages load with a normal speed. We experience the issues only on our Mac computers. Outside my home network all computers load pages as quickly as they should.
Here is a list of things that I tried:
    - Restarted AirPort Extreme Base Station and Cisco Router
    - Factory Reset of AirPort Extreme Base Station and Cisco Router
    - Downgraded AirPort Extreme Base Station from 7.6.1. to various former versions and back
    - Changed channels of the Airport Extreme Base Station
    - Connected to AirPort Extreme base station via Ethernet (pages still loading slowly)
    - Ran Activity Monitor on my Mac, but found no activities that could cause the Mac to slow down
    - Ran Network Utility and sent a ping to google.com, but experienced no traffic loss
At this point I am really running out of ideas on how to solve this. Does anybody have a clue what might cause this?
    Best regards,
    Georg

    HI tzbikowski,
    thanks for your message!
I added 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to my DNS server list. This has definitely improved things. Pages are loading quicker now, but it's still far from the speed you would expect. Could you elaborate on what you mean when you say that the cisco settings should be correctly propagated onto LAN? When connecting to the Cisco router through the admin interface, it mentions two different DNS servers that the router appears to use (I guess those are provided by my ISP). Are you referring to these servers?
    Thanks!

  • Why do webpages load slowly in iOS 8?

Why do webpages load so slowly in Safari now that I've updated to iOS 8?

    Hey PatagiceDSavannah,
It could be an issue with the microphone on your iPhone not picking up your voice. Take a look at the article below to walk you through some troubleshooting to get you talking with Siri again. If you still are experiencing the issue, you may want to reach out to Apple Support to further assist you.

  • Webpages load slowly in Firefox (about 5 minutes or longer for most pages) but load instantly in Internet Explorer. This has been happening for the last few upgrades, but years ago never used to be a problem. What could it be?

I don't think it's every webpage, but most of them, and all pages open instantly in Internet Explorer but Firefox takes minutes to open a page and just sits there with a white screen while it's loading.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

  • Webpage loading

    Good evening,
Over the past month or so, I have been having very slow internet connection. Actually, webpage loading is the problem. If I can explain so you understand: when I have a website entered for search in the address bar, for instance: http://discussioins.apple.com, the address "highlights" as it's searching, but intermittently. For instance, only the first 5 characters of the address highlight, then there is a pause, then the next few characters in the address highlight, pause again. This action occurs until finally. This goes on until the entire address is highlighted then of course, the website loads, albeit slowly. This has never happened before and I have not changed any settings. Any resolve for this issue?
    Thank you.
    FMW

    Hi
if Safari, then it sounds normal for a slow connection.
You might read http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408?viewlocale=en_US & try different dns for starters.
If that doesn't help & it is just Safari - try trashing Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db with Safari closed. It's Safari's cache.

  • Year 2010-2011 MacBook Pro version 10.7.4 issues: freezes up, files are loading slowly and buttons are not responding

Hello my fellow Apple product user's. My problem has been going on for about a month and half with my laptop locking up, file folders on my desktop loading slowly and my sleep button and other buttons on my dash board not responding. Where to being with my issues that are listed up in my title and my first scene. The first issue has been my file folders are not loading fast like that did before, the issue is that they load in about 10-15 if not a little longer after I log into my laptop desktop. The second issue is that my sleep button does not respond to sleep right away, I have to press it three or four different times after I have logged out of my desktop to make it go to sleep.  The final problem is dealing with my buttons and laptop locking up, when I started an application called runescape after it load to the log in screen and after I came back to log into the game it decide to lock up/ froze on me and durning that time my buttons on my dashboard was not responding, so I decide to command q to quit the application and after that buttons were not reponding to it and I decide to do common and control c to see if it would work and it did and after that everything has been working fine except for the files are loading slowly. Also I had another issue with the laptop sleeping so quick as soon I am using the Internet. There was one other problem that had happen to me just like my description in my first scene, but I do not remember that issue.
Please no spamming, flaming and being plain rude to me and others. If you can not listen, read, or under stand my warning you will be kicked off from posting on threads buy a froum monitor. Pleas and thank you for posting and helping me out with fixing my problems.

It's likely that the new drive isn't working, or it wasn't installed correctly, or you had some other hardware fault rather than a bad drive.

Mac OS: Long delay before webpages load, then load suddenly at normal speed
    Symptoms
When trying to access a website via its DNS name, such as www.apple.com, there may be a delay that ranges from several seconds up to several minutes before the page loads at normal speed, depending on the operating system version and configuration. However, if you access the website's numerical IP address, such as http://17.149.160.49 , the page loads immediately.
Two causes of the issue are described below, DNS configuration and changing networks. Issues related to changing networks usually only affect portable Macs.
    Products Affected
    Safari, Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.3, Mac OS X 10.2, Mac OS X 10.1, Mac OS X 10.0, Mac OS X 10.5, Mac OS X 10.6
    Resolution
    DNS configuration
This may indicate a non-responsive DNS server or an invalid DNS configuration. A DNS server converts a name to a numerical IP address, "www.apple.com" to "17.149.160.49", for example. You can connect to an IP address without any delay, because the need for DNS resolution is avoided. Here are four scenarios in which the symptom may occur:
You have specified two or more DNS servers in the Network preference pane (possibly at the direction of a network administrator or your ISP), but the first server on the list has become non-responsive, or was entered incorrectly. The delay occurs while Mac OS X waits for the first server to respond, then it goes to the next server in your list. Make sure the addresses are entered correctly. Changing the order of DNS addresses may improve performance. If your network administrator prefers that the primary server be used, you may wish to change back to the original order after the issue is resolved with the primary server.
Your network may be configured to provide automatic discovery of DNS service, without needing to manually type the DNS server addresses at your computer. If you have manually typed a DNS address that is incorrect or out of date, your computer may wait for the incorrect address to respond (a "timeout") before succeeding at automatic discovery.
You have not specified a DNS server, and automatic discovery of the service is not provided on your network. In this scenario, you can only connect via an IP address. Web pages do not load at all via a DNS name, such as is described in this article.
    How to resolve
Check with your network administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP) to make sure your DNS information is correct. If your ISP only provides you with one DNS address, consider requesting a second one for use in the event that the first becomes unavailable.
Once you have the address(es), you can use these steps to change your DNS information. Note: After using these steps, some Internet applications may need to be quit and reopened to return to normal behavior.
    Mac OS X v10.5 or 10.6:
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Network.
Click the interface you use to connect to the Internet, such as AirPort or Built-in Ethernet.
If you use Built-in Ethernet: Type your DNS address(es) in the DNS Server field. If you have more than one, separate them with a comma.
If you use AirPort, click Advanced, then click the DNS tab. For each server, click the "+" button under DNS Servers and enter the address provided by your ISP or network admin. Click OK when done.
    Click Apply.
Mac OS X v10.4 or earlier:
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Network.
From the Show menu, choose the interface you use to connect to the Internet.
    Click the TCP/IP tab.
Type your DNS address in the Domain Name Servers field. If you have more than one, press Return at the end of each to put the next address on a new line.
    Click Apply Now.
    Changing networks
You may experience a delay with the first connection after changing networks on a portable Mac. For example, you might use an MacBook at home with AirPort, then take it to work or school and use an Ethernet connection. By default, Mac OS X uses one set of Internet preferences (known as a "location") named Automatic that will search your computer's modem, Ethernet, and AirPort interfaces until it finds the one that is connected to the Internet. You may experience a delay while your computer determines which network it is on. This can be easily differentiated from a DNS issue by creating a location that only contains one network interface. For more information, see Using network locations in Mac OS X.

Yeah.  I'm seeing the same behavior.  Safari hangs when it loads pages.  Firefox loads them quickly.  That's not a DNS issue.
Some pages hang for MINUTES in Safari.  If you just touch the resize triangle at the bottom right of the screen, then Safari loads the page just fine.  This is a redraw problem, not a DNS issue.
This happens on both my wife's iMac Core i5 and my Mac Mini Core 2 Duo - both running Mac OS X 10.6.8

  • Web pages load slowly using Safari, Firefox, and Chrome.

Web pages are loading slowly now on my mid-2008 iMac 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo.
Doesn't seem to matter if I use Safari v5.1.10, Firefox v29.0.1, or Chrome v34.0.1847.131.
Problem started about a week ago mostly with YouTube but now I have issues with almost all web pages loading slowly, including this one.

Try resetting both your Intenet MODEM/Router by unplugging them, waiting 15 to 20 seconds then plugging them back in.

  • IWork 09 - all apps loading slowly when on network

    Hi
I have just received a copy of iWork 09 at work, for installation to our school iMac workstations. However, I'm having the problem in that all of the apps, Numbers, Pages and Keynote load very slowly when my test iMac is connected to our school network.
I am almost certain that it's our squid-based proxy server that's causing us problems (we have never been able to register any Macs through it). I can only assume that the applications are attempting to contact Apple for whatever reason when they are loaded. This isn't for registration, as I told all the applications to 'Never Register' on first run.
I have tested with the iMac plugged into our normal broadband connection, and the apps load almost instantly. This adds fuel to my belief that it's the proxy, and the applications talking over the internet.
Is it possible to alter a setting or edit a plist file, which will prevent the applications from doing whatever they are trying to do online?
    Regards,
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
While I can't fully answer your question, maybe I can point you in the right direction.
The network connection iWork applications make at startup is a query for new help content.
This seems like a useful function to me, so I don't know if you'd want to investigate disabling it or not, but apps loading slowly is never fun!
If you can't get your Network Administrator to fix the problems with using Macs on your network, I'd look around for something to do with non-permanently disabling this function through a .plist edit. I know that's what you're doing already, but maybe knowing what function it is you're after will help you find what you're looking for!

  • Applications load slowly on imac after Mavericks clean install

After a clean install of Mavericks, my late 2009 imac runs more slowly compared to how it ran under Snow Leopard.  Applications like "Settings" take a few seconds to load, whereas under snow leopard, the application would load almost instantly.  The Novabench score now is around 771, and matches about what I measured after the clean Mavericks install, but appears low compared to scores for similarly configured systems running Snow Leopard.  The system is quite usable, especially if applications are left open, just slower.  Is it possible to identify from Etrecheck a possible explanation?  Is this level of degradation of performance expected when upgrading an old system?  Thank you for your help.

  • Images and objects loading slowly

I built my personal website with Adobe Muse (http://www.tylerburton.me/) and there are a few issues I would like to fix. The main problem is certain images and objects seem to load slowly and weirdly when I navigate to the pages. The green navigation bar at the top of the screen as well as the background of my portfolio or the two main examples. Any advice would be much appreciated.

For the two background images, create the faded effect in Photoshop and save the images as JPEG prior to importing into Muse.
At present these two images are either transparent to begin with or have transparency applied in Muse to create the faded effect. That works visually, but results in Muse converting the images to PNG (to support the transparency) and PNG is roughly 5 times larger than a reasonable quality JPEG for this type of image. If you flatten the effect into an opaque version of the image in Photoshop, then JPEG format can be used.
I'm not seeing unusual loading of the header bar, but you might be seeing FOUT (Flash Of Unstyled Text)? It can/will occur if the browser first draws the page before the Web Fonts have loaded. The exact behavior depends on connection speed, the browser used and no doubt other factors.

  • Web pages load slowly or not at all.

At least half the web pages I try to access load slowly or not at all, especially those I am accessing for the first time. This problem has been getting worse over the past few months. I ran the Wireless Diagnostics test, and it said there didn't seem to be a problem.     I am using a Belkin G Wireless Router, and only use the MacBook Air at home.  The PHY Mode is 802.11g.  What should I do?

Try going to Speedtest.net (if you can ) and see what your speeds are. If they seem fine then try turing off or resetting your router. If that doesn't work it might be something with the Wi-Fi antena within the MacBook Air. Try connecting it via Ethernet.

  • Webpage loading is very slow with parental controls enabled

    Hello,
My kids were complaining about slow webpage loading (~2 min page) and how they can't do their homework.  I am running Lion (10.7.2) and using latest safari (or firefox)  on a new imac. (4GB).  After a few hours of searching and reading I created two new accounts, one with and one without minimal parental control enabled.  Sure enough, easily recreated the problem, so it is nothing(?) that my kids did to their accounts.  I have tried toggling the parental controls back to no internet site restrictions without changing the browser response.  Thanks for any help.

i did it many times and the same problem exists
