Webpages look different on all mac browsers than they do on IE

Ok, I just purchased an IMAC 27inch and I am not happy. The WebPages I used to do my job on my windows machine worked fine. On my IMAC, they look different, as if part of the page is lying on tope of another part of it, or like the tables used to create the web page are skewed.
I have tried this on Safari, Firefox and Opera. I went back to the mac store and brought the webpage up on the model in the store and the same thing happen. The sales person downloaded and installed Chrome and there was no change. It did the same thing on chrome.
Has anyone had a similar problem? WebPages looking different on the IMAC than they do on windows IE? I need to get this figured out fast or I will just take this thing back. I have 11 days left on the 14 day return policy. Help.
I will try and figure out how to upload a pdf of both WebPages to this thread

So, is this your first Mac? I remember when I switched over from a PC, I had the exact same issue. Trust me on this one, there is nothing wrong with your computer, it simply takes time to mentally adjust to the differences. It looks as if Safari does not show the complete webpage, or looks as if it is cutoff, or as you said, "skewed." But it is not, your eyes are so used to the IE format and your brain has grown so accustomed to your internet experience being a certain way that it takes time to get used to it. I posted the EXACT same question five years ago in this forum and everyone told me what I am telling you and I got pretty upset with some very knowledgeable people. Now I feel like a fool for having disagreed because I see nothing wrong with it at all, but I am using the same exact computer I was five years ago (I love IMac's, how many PC's can one say that about) You will get used to it, no doubt about it.

  • Why do my pictures look different on my Nikon camera than they do in Lightroom 4

I am having trouble! I don't know if it's lightroom 4 or what's going on but the pictures that I take with my Nikon D300s look so much better in my camera than they do on my computer. When I import them into lightroom 4, it almost looks like the white balance and exposure changes. I always import them with 'none' selected for develop settings and metadata but i don't know if there's another option I can change to fix this. I've tried everything. Please help!

  • Why is it that iTunes looks different from all other apps again?

This might be a rather irrelevant question, yet I wonder: Why is it that iTunes doesn't look like the majority of other Apple apps? I guess it's mainly the scrolls bars and the check boxes. Not that I don't like the way iTunes look, I'm just curious why it has to look different when one of Leopard's goals was to make a more unified interface.
Can anyone enlighten me or is this something that only Apple knows?

"Besides, not all of us run Leapard, so wouldn't making iTunes look like leapard make it look different on all our systems that don't use leapard?"
That's a point But what I meant by that was that in Tiger there are many different kinds of windows where Apple in Leopard has tried to stick to just one. And that's why I think it's so weird that iTunes has to differ from all the rest.

  • Webpages looking different in different browsers..

I've been all over the web looking for answers, my brain is
about to explode. I can't figure out why my site created in
Dreamweaver looks great in Firefox, and a jumbled mess in Internet
Explorer. I have a huge marketing campaign coming up soon and I
really need to figure this out. Can someone please help me out with
a "somewhat" easy fix, or would be willing to guide me through the
process of getting the site compatible with both browsers? I am
almost to the point of just giving up..I'm so frustrated. I can
provide my entire code if need be, or even send an experienced user
the files themselves to give them a look. I don't have alot of
money, but if someone could help in that way I would try my best to
reimburse you. I just really need to get this going. :(

This is a user-to-user community. The help is free. Because
    it is free you
will be best served if you make it as easy as possible for
    others to help
you. That starts with uploading your page or site to the
    Internet and
posting a clickable link. Next provide a detailed explanation
    of what's
wrong. Hint: "looks great in Firefox, and a jumbled mess in
    Internet
    Explorer" is at best vague.
Sending files to someone is no solution as it bypasses the
    community at
large. Your best answers will come when many can view your
    page/site and
    offer suggestions/solutions.
Uploading the page(s) should be of no consequence even if you
    haven't set up
hosting for your "huge marketing campaign". Your ISP probably
    offers free
    hosting space. Check it out.

  • Cell spacing on my website's home page is different and misaligned only in Firefox, looks ok in all other browsers.

On my website dominictwistphoto.com the homepage has three gallery buttons. Only in Firefox is the vertical spacing between these cells different causing the bottom button (gallery three) to stick out at the bottom and thus be misaligned with the main flash cell.
This only happens in Firefox. I've been told to go back to Dreamweaver and adjust the dimensions, but this will surely cause it to be incorrect in all the other browsers won't it?
I am using the latest version of Dreamweaver and Firefox.
Any light you could shed on this problem would be much appreciated. Many thanks

  • Flash movie looks different in some IE8 browsers

    Hi All,
I have a website http://www.pestcontrolonline.com which looks fine in  firefox, safari etc, but in some versions of IE 8 or 9 the flash movie looks wrong or doesn't display.  For example the insect guide vertical scroller on the right hand side of the page goes out of alignment with the actual scroller scrolling out the top of the back ground image.
Also on the main page beneath the flash movie that shows the special offers is another flash movie that segments and rotates the image, on some browsers this doesn't show at all.
If the flash movies didn't show in any version of IE then i would assume that there was a problem cross browser wise, but in our office it shows on virtually all of our computers fine, except for two and all computers run the same browser version and connect to the internet via our company server.  I have tried several things including re inserting the flash movies, but nothing really changes.
Any ideas or suggestions would be gratefully recieved.
    Thanks
    Lee

Altruistic, what happens when you click No? Does the error appear?
I ran the IE8 debugger to see if i could investigate further and I actually did not see the same thing you did.
I ran into problems with 3 things:
    jquery.min.js
    SpryData.js
It's reporting that certain variables are null or not objects
    tabsandaccordions.js
says "object does not support this property or method", referring to this:
         if($.cookie('/careercenter/menustate')) {           $('#menu').accordion('activate', $('#' + $.cookie('/careercenter/menustate')).parent('h3'));      };
Again, thanks a lot for pointing me in the right direction. I'm really not sure what is going on. Is this something other than a compatibility issue?

  • Website created with iWeb looks different in IE and Firefox than Safari-why

So I spent a few hours working on my Home and About Us page. Then, while browsing this forum, I started seeing posts about how sites done with iWeb might not look good in IE and/or Firefox. I decided to test out my work. I zipped up my site files and emailed them to myself. I went to my Dell desktop and downloaded the files to that computer. I opened up the home page in Firefox first. The site seemed to look ok, and both the home and about us page links showed up and were functional (i.e. I was able to browse back and forth between the two pages). However, I had some bullet points on the about us page that had a green border around them. This rendered fine in Safari on my Mac, but in Firefox, the bottom line of the box was not connected! Why?
After viewing in IE, I was depressed. The site didn't look at all like it should have. Not only that, but I couldn't navigate between the pages, since the links for home and about us were not at the top. What can I do to make sure that a site I create with iWeb looks good in Safari, IE, and Mozilla Firefox?
    -A stumped newbie

Well I see that you and I share the same problem, I posted the same type of question and am anxiosly awaiting replies on this topic, as it is very important
I own a small business, and every hour a customer cannot view my site is a customer lost to incompatibility issues.
I hope someone can help answer these issues.

  • Webpage renders differently with PowerPC Mac compared to Intel-based Mac

While I am aware that http://www.medica.com is optimized for Internet Explorer [yuk! =) ], PowerPC-based Macs are able to fully render it.
Safari, Firefox, Camino, running on PowerPC work just fine.
Safari, Firefox, Camino, on Intel-based Mac does not render correctly.
    Is this a known issue?
    Help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You cannot "force" a PPC application to open in Rosetta. It does so automatically. Only universal binary applications can be "forced" to open in Rosetta.
The problem you're having is more likely due to an inherent incompatibility of the software to run correctly on an Intel Mac and Intel version of OS X. This cannot be fixed without the developer updating the software. I don't think this will happen very soon given the EMC hasn't been putting much effort into updating Retrospect in a timely fashion. Were I you I would look for an alternative to NetWorker that is compatible with Intel Macs.
Unfortunately, I don't have any specific suggestions for the same type of software. Retrospect is available in server-client versions but it is a PPC only application. It does, however, work on Intel Macs.

  • Flash-based uploaders crashing on all Mac browsers

I'm going to try to be as level-headed as possible with this, but to be frank, I am becoming furiously pissed after dealing with this issue for at least a month now...
Every single Flash-based uploader I use troughout the web causes my Flash Player to crash about 75% of the time. I've tried Safari 5.1, Firefox 6.0.2 and Chrome 14.0.835.186 with Flash Player 10.3.183.10 with fairly consistent results. Nearly every time I go to upload something, it immediately take down the Flash Player in that browser. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, clearing cache, disabling other plugins and just about everything I can think of to no avail.
I'm on a Intel Mac Pro running 64bit Snow Leopard. This problem has just appeared in the last month or so (probably about the time of the last Flash Player release) and is hindering my ability to effectively do my job.
Is anybody else having this issue?

I haven't run across this, though I did see a Firefox fileupload bug yesterday (https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=2980517).  Would you mind opening a new bug on this over at bugbase.adobe.com?  Please include URLs where you're seeing this behavior and we'll investigate further.

  • Published site looks different on mac and pc?

having (finally) published my site, why do the fonts and layout look different on my mac to my husbnad's pc? v odd???

because different browsers interpret CSS files indifferent ways and because fonts that are installed on your mac may not necessarily be installed on your husbands pc. It is a common gripe of web designers (not just those using iWeb) that margins and padding (for example) are all read differently by IE than by FF.

  • Why does Muse website look different Mac vs. PC

Why do adobe muse websites look different on a Mac vs. PC? www.915day.com for example. Looks great on my mac, but when you go to the PC version it looks zoomed in at least 25-35%? Why? (I have thus adjusted it to look good on a PC.) Frustratingly, to center the Logo for one platform, means to put it off center on the other. Defeats the whole purpose of Parallax scrolling. Also, who would pay so much a month to the creative cloud if they can't even offer their clients continuity? I understand there is a difference between older browsers and new, but it tests the same way even on a new browser (Windows 8 browsers). I have tried adjusting the canvas to the exact measurements of the screen on my PC but it renders the same. Also I have turned on the HiDPI just to see if that was the case. Still no fix. There is only one instance of this in the forums and it has still gone unanswered. So I am asking in greater detail why this is an issue.
    Anyone?

I tried to check the site display in multiple browsers on both Mac and windows , but I was not able to verify the issue.
I believe you have already resolved the issue.
    Thanks,

  • Why do RGB colour references look different on screen in Illustrator and Adobe Muse?

Prior to a December upgrade to CC versions of Illustrator and Photoshop and an upgrade to Muse, RGB colours looked consistent in all 3. Now they do not and I don't understand why there has been this change. I cannot see a way of pulling them all into line. I always synchronise colours via Bridge.

For colors on the web it is best to use web safe colors. Non-websafe colors can and will give different looks in different browsers and file types.

  • All Mac network setup?

    Hello all!
This is my first post here. Thanks for taking the time to help me with an answer to my question below.
I work for a small graphic design firm. We all work on iMacs here in our office (6 Macs total) with the exception of two PCs (1 for receptionist, 1 for data backup), and after a recent virus (Cryptolocker) hit one of our networked PCs, we're looking at going "all Mac" with our setup (if it's possible). I am here to ask for hardware/setup recommendations.
We have just a few needs as we plan our new network setup:
    1) A central file repository with at least 4 - 5 TB of storage space for shared files, which all 6 Mac computers must have access to;
    2) It has to be a wired network (for fastest file transfer speeds & security -- we already have tons of Cat5 cable installed);
    3) A way to backup the central repository to a Cloud service automatically on a nightly basis.
We looked at a Time Capsule, but they max out at 3 TB and we weren't sure if 1) we could daisy chain multiples, and 2) whether they can be backed up to cloud storage in any way.
I am wide open to suggestions on what we need to buy in order to set up the kind of network that we need. I am a Mac convert, so I don't know all there is to know about networking Macs either, so treat me like a 10 year old kid when it comes to explaining/outlining what gear you think we should buy, what hooks up to what, and the system/hardware settings we may need.
I appreciate the time that any of you are willing to take to outline this for me. Thank you in advance for sharing your expertise!

    Tesserax,
I have purchased a Western Digital My Cloud 2TB. Need Simple Step by Step guide for Optimal Apple Eco Setup, Sync, Organize, Maintain and Secure my media while freeing storage space on all devices, and maintaining anywhere accessibilty.
Western Digital has setup the drive on the network and it is recognized by iTunes, but they do not want me to move the libraries. iPhoto can import the My Cloud media into its library. They suggest copy'n'paste all media into the My Cloud public folders of Video, Photos and Music then delete the media from the devices. I dont see how you can Sync the iPhones, (future iPads), without moving the libraries, after all the object is to free space on the devices including the MacBooks.
How do I include the My Cloud into the MacBook Pro's Mountain Lion 10.8.5 TimeMachine Backup? (Leave MacBook Leopard 10.5.8 TimeMachine Backup for laptop only)
    I have:
2 Users that want to keep their media in separate folders, but would be nice to have a choice between joint or separate viewing ability
    MacBook Leopard 10.5.8
    MacBook Pro Mountain Lion 10.8.5
    2 iPhone 4 - 32GB
    Apple TV 2
Time Capsule 2TB (TimeMachine Backups only)
Western Digital (Media Only - perhaps some documents)

  • What are all the browsers I should be writing code for in css?

What is a list of the most common browsers that people use that I should code for? Where do I download that list of browsers so that I could test my site? I only have ie8 and chrome.

In addition to the major 5, I would also test in IE7, IE8, iPhone, iPad, Android & Blackberry.  In industrialized parts of the world, the number of people using portable web devices is increasing at breakneck speed.  Your site may not look identical in all these browsers but it should be functional.

  • File uploads stalling when using mac browsers?!

Im having a recurring issue where i cannot complete file uploads to popular sites such as YouTube, SendSpace, FileLodge, DropLoad and YouSendIt.
On all mac browsers (safari, firefox, netscape etc) the upload starts as normal and (via a network monitor in dashboard) I can see that my 25kb upload speed is being utilised to its full capacity. But after around 5 mins (with bigger files) the upload seems to stall, and my network monitor shows no upload activity!!!
I use a Belkin Wireless Router to connect my mac and a PC laptop to the internet and have tried removing all its security/firewall settings (and OSX's) as a troubleshooting tactic, but still with the same results!
I have tried uploading to the same sites using Virtual PC on my mac and it DOES WORK as it is supposed to, so this rules out it being a router or ISP problem i think... no?
I can usually send smaller files.... under 5MB is usually ok, but these sites are designed for files up to 1GB!!! Please can someone tell me why this is happening and what i can do to fix it? Is this a mac software restriction?
    Thanks

    MajorTom,
There is not a restriction on the mac, I have successfully sent files to yousentit.com before
However I would have to guess it would be the Mac OS communicating with your internet connection, have you tried to connect the Mac directly to your Modem via ethernet?
