Webpress Vs Digital Book Printing Problem

It's time for the 4th run of my photo story book. It was created using MS Word and converted to a PDF. The first 3 runs were on a digital press but that costs 4 times as much as a longer run of a 1000 or more books on a webpress. My problem is, in the soft proof all the photos are washed out. We are on our 4th try with modifying the photos using photoshop. Any idea where I am going wrong?

Yes my monitor is calibrated, a NEC2490WUXi.  The gave us a hard copy of our 60 page book printed by a digital (?) press that is set up to mimic the webpress output.  The copy was not on glossy paper but plain paper.  They say there will be a little more color and contrast on the final glossy paper but not as much as our original book.  Could it be as simple as the wrong settings when converting from MS Word to PDF?

  • Adress book printing problem

I cannot print adress labels on AVERY J8159. If "Country" is choosen under the "Etiket" tab it appears for the Avery Standard 5162 Etiket, but as soon as under "Page" the Avery A4 J8159 is choosen, the country indication on the label disappears. Who is aware of a solution or is it a bug in the Adress book?

I've had exactly the same problem trying to print Avery address labels from Address Book and the 'country' field keeps disappearing from addresses outside my home country. It makes what should be a simple job extremely time-consuming and frustrating.
Unfortunately, I've not been able to come up with a solution, but all I can say is that, judging by the number of postings on this area, there are clearl some issues with the software. Hopefully these will be fixed in release 10.5.6?

  • Adobe Digital Editions printing problem.

    Hey there,
Just signed up to post a question that I cannot find the answer to, its driving me nuts!
Basically I downloaded a ebook, opened it up in ADE, and went to see if I could print it. A box popped up saying I can only print 206 pages, then it froze.
So I tried again, this time it went to print but said I can only print 36 pages, this then changed each time I reopened the file.
Can any explaine to me whats going on??
I dont understand why it keeps changing everytime I reopen the file.
Im using ADE on a mac by the way, and me being a idiot, didnt autorise this computer so I cant even move it to another computer?!?!! URGH! That annoyed me.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Does the tablet show up as a drive?
Does the tablet show up as a device under ADE?
Can you install the Bluefire app on the Android?  That should allow you to register/activate your AdobeID, and to download and read Adobe DRM books; no need for ADE.
Or the Overdrive app if you want to access library books.

  • Address Book Print problems

I noticed a probable bug in the new version of Address Book in Mountain Lion.
When I want to print a list of my contacts this did not appear in alphabetical order but the printed list is in random order.
This did not happen in the previous version of Lion.
Please can you help me why?
    Massimo

I just found a way to print contacts in ABC order.  I signed in to my iCloud account online, then went to Contacts. I selected the contact group I wanted to print on the left page (example Xmas card list).  On the right page at the bottom, I clicked on the gear symbol and clicked "select all", then clicked again on "print". When the print window appeared, I saved the file to PDF, just to see if the information was in ABC.  It was!
print groups or all.... no choices but at least it's a start until they fix it.

  • Short-run book printing?

Am looking for an alternative to Apple, Blurb, Lulu, etc., to print a short run (approx 100 copies) of a small hardcover book for resale. Apple, Blurb, and the others are all geared to one-off printing (with a small discount for more than 25 copies)--and it's too expensive for the kind of resale price I'm looking to charge. AsukaBooks and others are even more expensive, geared to one-off portfolio books or wedding photo books. Only printer I've found in online searches is this--exactly what I'm looking for, but in the UK, and shipping is costly to the U.S.:
    http://www.biddles.co.uk/
Would welcome suggestions from anyone who has done this kind of book production/printing before!

Not sure if there are really any good solutions for your needs. I've looked at this before, and the numbers just never seemed to add up. Have you considered actually doing a "real" offset printing job? Not sure of your size or specs, but you should be looking at around $15-20,000 for 5000 books from a good Chinese printer. If you dropped that to 1000 copies, you might get it down to $12,000. If you can sell 300 books at $40 each, then the other 700 are your potential profit (or else a good marketing tool).
One-off books are always going to be expensive, especially if you want decent color. You can't get around the fact that the single digital color prints cost the printers MUCH more per page than offset printing does. Only problem is that you have all the overhead in traditional printing.
FYI, I've tried several different color laser printers to produce one-off books over the years, and disregarding my time they still came out to almost $40 each (granted it was 250 pages). But I still do these, as they support a much more expensive educational product.

  • Airport Extreme Printing Problem with HP Deskjet.

Hello ... I wonder if any helpful folks can assist me with my printing problem? I am using Tiger on a new Intel imac with a HP Deskjet 960C. This printer is listed as having the latest drivers included within Tiger and works perfectly when connected via USB so my problem I guess is not with the software....I have disconnected everything and plugged everything back together again. I also deleted the printer from the printer list within the Printer Setup Utility application.... The imac recognisies the printer and upon pressing the print button everything feels as though its just going to work. The blue barber shop scroll appears but the printer fails to kick into gear and I get the big red exclamation mark appearing in the status box .... I would really love to try and sort this annoying error ... Any ideas? Thanks. Book G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Hello jds17. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations.
Take a look at one of these iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility links, depending on which AirPort base station you have:
o 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) or AirPort Express Base Station (AX)
o 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn)
If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also, you may find the following Apple article helpful.

  • How can I get my music from a digital book onto my MAC?

I purchased an album from iTunes using my iPad and now that I want to add it to my daughter's Nook from Mac its not giving me the music to download only the Digital book. How can I get my music and add to my library?

It sounds to me like the option to  "copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" was turned off in the iTunes -> Advanced preferences when you added the tracks from the flash drive, so iTunes left them on the flash drive rather than copying them to your computer's hard drive. Get Info on any of the tracks and see where iTunes thinks they should be located. If they're pointing to the flash drive, check that preference.
If that is indeed the problem, you'll need to fix the location. You can do this track by track if there aren't too many, but if there are a number of them, it'll be easiest to remove them from the iTunes library, fix the above-mentioned preference, and add the tracks again. Or you can just keep the flash drive connected to your computer, but that's probably not ideal.

  • Duplex Printing Problem - Word 2007, Vista and HP Officejet Pro L7780

I'm having trouble with duplex printing on my new HP Officejet Pro L7780, from Word 2007, running on a brand new Vista system.  I've also had this same problem (repeatable) with two other computers, running XP Professional/Word 2003, XP Home/Word 2003.  All of the service packs have been installed for the operating system, word, and printer.
If you print a landscape document, using the auto duplex setting for the HP printer, the margins will print out offset by .25 inches, on the left and rigt margins.  So if your margin is 1 inches on right and left, the margins will print to .75 on one side and 1.25 on the other.  This would be annoying, except that I'm trying to print brochures and books, which requires that the pages print out exactly as set up... "close enough" isn't working for me
The way I have replicated this problem is as follows:  set up a document in landscape format, using the default margins.  Insert an image on page one, size it so it takes the full margin area.  On the second page, fill it up with text.  Print the document, selecting the printer properties and setting Print on Both Sides=Automatic.   The easiest way see the problem is by holding the document up to the light.  The front and back margins should match and they don't.
Any help you can provide would be very much appreciated.
    Diana

    Diana,
This problem is perhaps much larger than you might have imagined.  We have tried to work with Hewlett Packard for over two years on the duplex printing problems.  In the process, we have expended over 100 hours of effort in troubleshooting the problem which has included updating software, reinstalling software, developing test documents, escalating issues, submitting technical findings, and in purchasing replacements.  Unfortunately, our efforts to interact with Hewlett Packard excalated support have resulted in an aire of apathy, disinterest, incompetence, frustration, redundancy, occasional discourtesy, and an outright lack of professional decorum - something inconceivable of a large, reputable company.
We have identified several problems with duplex printing.  The duplex printing problems include irregular margin increases (.25 to .50 inch), margin shifts, cut-off text, compressed text, and compressed graphics.  Please note that most of these problems are only evident when printing documents from computer applications to the printer.  If the user simply uses the front printer panel to copy in duplex mode, these problems are not always evident.  This suggests that the printer mechanics are capable of properly duplexing and that the problem lies in the drivers.
The problem is evident on the HP OfficeJet Pro L7780, Photosmart L7180, Photosmart C6150, Photosmart 3310, and likely on many, many other HP models.  The problem is evident on many computers (HP, IBM, Toshiba, and Dell), is evident in multiple applicatons (Word, Wordperfect, Excel, Peachtree, Notepad, and many more), and is evident on multiple operating systems (Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Media Center Edition, and Microsoft Vista).
We consider ourselves to be extremely polite, patient individuals, but have nearly been driven to outrage by the indignant disregard offered us by HP's escalation support department; a department which should represent the cream-of-the-crop in both service and technical expertise.  Given the ease with which the problem can be duplicated, we expected an extremely quick resolution by HP who, to our knowledge, has never even made the effort to duplicate the problem in-house on our behalf.
Ironically, HP highly advertises their J.D. Powers rated technical support, yet it appears that they actually have extremely poor published consumer rankings in some of today's mainstream computer magazines.  HP technical support makes no apologies for the fact the user cannot use a major feature of their printers, offers no indication that the problem is even being addressed, and off-loads the responsibility by suggesting that we contact Microsoft (who is to blame for this issue).
Thank you, Diane, for your message.  We had a hard time imagining that we were the only one experiencing this problem, especially when HP promotes such a representation.  Which also begs the question why HP plays like the problem does not even exist?  I also fail to understand why HP technical support shows so little interest in a problem that is easily duplicated and adversely affects a major feature of the printer which is commonly used by individuals purchasing equipment for its duplex capabilities.
This is sad because we have been a loyal customer of HP for over twenty-five years.  There was a time when we would have happily endorsed HP's steller products and steller support (provided you could get a problem escalated).  Now, however, they all-too-often appear to offer equipment that fails to support advertised features which is backed up by sub-standard support and extremely expensive ink.  This is an especially sad commentary for users who are buying HP's upper-end printers and computers.
We desire to know if there are others out there experiencing similar problems?  If you have experienced these problems or would like samples of the problems we have duplicated, please respond.  I think the more information we gather, the better our chance of a successful resolution to a serious problem.
    Thanks Everyone!

  • PDF/X for Digital (RGB) Printing

I'm working (in Design) for a digital print house (from Desktop/inkjet printers up to LFP, as well as Laser).
It's been decided that we want/need ISO certification. Part of this means that we have to use PDF/X files.
(Colour Management is a big part of the work here - down to every Printer/Paper being profiled in house).
Now, the question; does PDF/X lend itself to digital RGB printing. 80% of what we print is on RGB printers (small desktop/inkjet printers). Only the Laser and some of the LFP being CMYK. Up until now we've been creating RGB PDFs for this work. Looking through the PDF/X preflight, Digital Printing seems to be just CMYK. I know I can create my own preflight/fixes: if I set it to make sure everything is RGB is it still PDF/X compliant?
I know with PDF/X-3 I can have Lab and RGB objects in a CMYK PDF, but would not a complete RGB file be acceptable?
Any tips, ideas, info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Angus
(Win XP, Adobe CS3 collection, Acrobat 8 )

PDF/X-3 supports a pure RGB workflow - no problem.

  • IPhoto Book Print - Rejected

    Sirs
Could you please help me with an issue that I currently have with iPhoto.
As a Christmas Present for my 6 year old daughter, I have created an iPhoto book of our recent trip to EuroDisney. I completed the book and purchased it via the Apple Store in iPhoto.
However, I have today received an email stating as follows:
    To Our Valued Apple Customer:
It appears that when your order was submitted to Apple, an error caused the
image file to be unreadable or unprintable. As a result, Apple is unable to
process your order and you will not be charged. We recommend the following
      before submitting your order:
      1. Update your software.
      2. Restart your computer.
      3. Make sure all applications are closed.
      4. Open iPhoto or Aperture.
      5. While all other applications are closed, preview your print product as a
      PDF.
      6. Resubmit your order.
While previewing and resubmitting your order, make sure all other applications
are closed. For instructions on how to update your software, refer to:
Mac OS X - Updating your software
      <http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1338>
I have checked the version of my MacBook - it is OS X 10.7 and I have checked the version of my iPhoto - it is 9.1.5. When selecting purchase in iPhoto, it is stating that I need to upgrade to 9.2.3. However, when I attempt to check for new updates in iPhoto itself, it is stating that my version is the latest version. Furthermore, checking for software updates via the Apple logo does not bring up any update for iPhoto nor does any updates in my Application Store.
It seems as if I require an update but there are no ways in which I can update this.
Could someone please advise / assist as I desperately want to get this book printed.
    Many Thanks
    Paul

If you update your system to 10.7.5 with the OS X Lion Update 10.7.5 (Client Combo) and OS X Lion 10.7.5 Supplemental Update updaters you can update your iPhoto version all the way to 9.4.2 thru the updaters availailable here: Apple - Support - Downloads-iPhoto 9.
But that's no guarantee that will fix the problem. If the problem image appears OK in a PDF preview of the book it should, as Larry pointed out, print out OK.  If it doesn't look OK in the PDF preview file export it out of iPhoto, open in Preview and export as a new, JPEG file.  Import it back into iPhoto, add to the book and replace the problem file with the newly created one.  Then create a new PDF file of the book and check that photo.

  • How to make hard cover paper book from iBooks author digital book

Someone suggested I make a few hard cover books from my iBooks Author published digital book. How would you go about doing this?
What file should I should I use, (PDF, etc)? What printer would do this best (iPhoto publishing, etc)?
Hoping it will be easy to use the format of iBooks Author so that I won't have to make changes.
    Many thanks for your help.

You can print directly from iBA or you can generate a PDF from the print menu and use that. Be sure to test layouts, orientation, etc. Of course certain content won't be output to a printer.
There are hundreds of printers to choose from - shop your budget.

  • Photo book uploading problem

I have created a photo book in Elements 7 and cannot get it to upload to Kodak.  My OS is Windows 7 and I am using Noton 360 security software.  I make it through the ordering of the photo book and the uploading seems to go to completion, approximately 20 minutes for the 568MB file, but then after a pause I get a pop up message saying  "There was a problem with your internet connection.  Please check that there is not a firewall blocking Photoshop Elements from accessing the internet and that you have an internet connection."  My ISP is Verizon FiOS, I've checked the connection speed and have experienced no other internet access problems.  I have my firewall set to allow PE7 to access the internet without restriction, and have also tried uploading with the firewall disabled with the same result.  I contacted Adobe support and even agreed to the $30 charge, but they said this wasn't a Photoshop problem.  Kodak says if they don't receive the upload it isn't their problem.  I would really like to get this photo book printed (daughter's college graduation).

Thanks for the update, Bob.  While I appreciate your efforts to resolve the issue with Kodak, I still feel there is something on my end that is not right.  I just tried to order additional copies of a photobook we did a  couple of years ago (43 pages, 147mb).  The upload process took just 10  minutes but failed with the same error message.  This was a photobook we had successfully ordered from Kodak before, using PE6 running on an older computer with a slower internet connection.
You mentioned internet bandwidth as a determining factor, using a faster connection as a possible solution. I have a Verizon FIOS 20/5 connection, periodically test my download/upload speeds, and that's pretty much what I get.  I had reasoned that since PE7 takes like 20 minutes to upload a 300MB file there must be something else going on.  Btw, there was one particular upload speed test I just tried that failed,"probably due to a hardware or software firewall blocking the FTP protocol the test uses".  I was also not able to run this test successfully with the Norton firewall temporarily disabled.  Does the PE7 photobook upload utility use an FTP protocol?

  • Print problem after exporting Pages to PDF.

I am attempting to print a very large genealogical book (300 + pages) of my family's descendants and noticed that in both Preview and Adobe Reader the first character of every page is missing. This does not happen when printing from Pages so it cannot be a printer problem. I checked the placement of the print against the Pages page and both Preview and Adobe Reader are EXACTLY the one character difference with the pages exactly even with each other. The original page type is 12 pt with margins: Left .5in, Right .5in, Top .75in, Bottom .75in, no header, Footer .5in using 9 pt type. What is really odd is that the onscreen display is correct but only the printed (HP OJ6500E702n wireless duplex marginless printer) copy is incorrect which indicates to me the conversion is somehow creating this problem.
I need this PDF file as it is the file I print from plus I put the file on a disk as a backup for the paper book for all book recipients.
    Sparkgapper

While this problem is for ANY application that EXPORTS, not prints, to a PDF format, I have discovered that the problem is probably be with the printer's minimum allowable margins being physically the same regardless of portrait or landscape instead of the logical rotation of margin type locations in landscape mode. Question answered by logic research.
