WebRTC h264 codec availability in Firefox desktop and Android

Following the announcement of Cisco h264 availability for WebRTC in Firefox back in Oct, would it be possible to provide an update on your progress? And do you have a rough release date for availability in both Firefox desktop and Android?

The problem with the VP8 codec is that there's no hardware acceleration support for it on legacy devices. As a result, existing dual-core processors (i.e. the majority of devices currently in the hands of users) struggle to provide quality video and audio.
My hope is that by leveraging the h264 codec, that the video and audio quality of a WebRTC call would be significantly improved due to the existing support for h264 hardware acceleration. But this may be just wishful thinking.
If the h264 codec is actually more efficient for legacy devices, are there plans to make it available within Firefox?

I am thinking about a new webservice based on an add-on for Mozilla (and other Internet Browsers).
In general, is it possible to write a combined add-on for Firefox (desktop) and Firefox (Android and iPhone)? Or do both Mozilla-worlds (desktop / mobile) differ and therefore require to write seperate add-ons (just Desktopn AND mobile or Desktop AND Android AND iPhone).

It can be the same extension though you will likely need to write different code for FxAndroid and Fx Desktop.

It is currently however targeted at 3rd world countries and/ or underdeveloped countries so it isn't recommended to use this if you're use to using Android and iOS at this moment. There are some websites that are available on my desktop and smartphone, but not on my laptop. How do I fix this?

I can access almost all web sites on my desktop, laptop, and smartphone, but there are a few that will load on the desktop and smartphone, but will not load on my laptop, with either Firefox or IE. There is no error message, and the animated icon that should show that the site is loading doesn't move at all. This is very frustrating, because it sometimes means that I miss important webinars, etc. Some of the sites I can't load are not long links, just the basic URL.
My internet service has been unable to help, and Norton tech support tried but also was unable to resolve the problem.
I've tried resetting Firefox to the default, but it didn't help. Note again that the web sites that are a problem will not load in either Firefox or IE on the laptop, but do load properly on the desktop and smartphone.

How do I get my desktop and Android Firefox bookmarks to sync?

When I add bookmarks on my desktop, they won't sync to my phone and vice versa. How can I amend this issue?

The phone and desktop may be using different Sync accounts;
one may be using old Sync while the other may be using new Sync.

Firefox desktop and start menu shortcuts were hidden after install - why?

I just installed Firfox 5 and after installing both the desktop shortcut and the start menu shortcut were marked as hidden in windows.
Anyone else experienced this and have any ideas what could have caused this. It was rather confusing.
I'm running on a brand new laptop (Dell XPS-17) running Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit). The only candidate I can think of is the computer came with McAffee, which I haven't used in years. It was appallingly bad back then but thought I'd give it a chance as Dell gave me 15months free.

I would like to suggest you try these steps to figure out what could be causing this problem.
1. Run Troubleshooter
Open the Search and Indexing troubleshooter

2. Create a new library and include fewer folders for test purpose. Now search for a file from that folder. See if it works.

3. Try to rebuild search indexing. Refer the steps from the following article.

Also you may use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to check the issue. The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Developing AS3 for desktop and Android Smartphone coexistance

I have recently built a knowledge management web app which runs unchanged on desktop browsers and Flash on Android. The client side is written 100% in Flash AS3 which is unusual, so I thought I would share a couple of learning’s from the Android aspects of this development.
Overall it was remarkably straight forward after I worked out the right architecture. The trick is for every aspect of the code to be aware of the screen size and capabilities of the device being used. There is no point in trying to view large diagrams on a small screen, or just scale them down; you need to customise the display appropriately for the different screen size. In my case I changed display formats when the screen width is larger than 600pixels. You also need to make sure that the click areas are bigger when used on smaller screens
I used Flash CS5 for the development, but the only feature that I used that is not in CS4 was to find out whether the screen was touch enabled so I could adjust the button sizes. Click events and mouse_over events work fine with Flash on Android, so for simple interactions it is not necessary to use all the new CS5 touch events. The only problem I encountered was getting the HTML right on Android (e.g. viewports). This area still has a little work to be done.
Ok, a 100% Flash web application is a little unusual, but I wanted portability and my last programming was 20 years ago. AS3 was easy to learn using Google searches and these forums. The back end is PHP and MySql

Explain your credentials. Do you know AS2 or AS3 programming. Familiar with AIR SDK? Flex SDK? Flash Professional? Flash Builder? FDT + Eclipse?

I looked on Adobe's site and they "advertise" fillable forms for the iPhone and Android markets, but on the Windows Phone tab, that is mysteriously missing. lol Maybe it will come later? Here's my suggestion:
On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Cellular (where you would turn on cellular data if you could).
You can actually scroll that menu down a bit so the "Cellular Data" button is not necessarily in the far upper right corner of the screen. Hopefully you can scroll it down far enough that you can successfully set it.

We don't know what Apple plans on doing to change this (and it may not be just Apple but more likely the publishers, since Apple would, of course, do whatever it could to maximize sales/profits). Right now you can only read Apple books on mobile devices. Sure, buy them from Amazon if you want to read them on the computer. We don't work for Apple so we're pretty impartial on this kind of advice.
You might also see what your library can offer. My wife can browse the county library from her iPhone, borrow e-versions, and read books on it too. Free!

Bug - If more then one tab is open and you try to swap tabs or close a tab Firefox closes completely sometimes. This happens on a desktop and 2 laptops I own.

The first time I reported this was Jul 12. The link back did not work. Since Jul 12 I have been on my daughters desktop, my girlfriends desktop, my laptop and desktop and they will all do the same thing periodically. When more than one tab is open and you try to swap or close a tab Firefox closes completely.
When I re-open Firefox I never get an error message to report back to Firefox support. Most of the time I get the "This is embarrassing" message and the restore tabs works.

If it were the last tab not multiple tabs then it would have been:
If you only had one tab open and id not always show the tab strip, that you would close the tab bar.
Tools > Options > Tabs > [x] Always show the tab bar
Make sure you have that option on, it is easy to restore a tab if you still have the tab bar you or something closes two tabs as you say. To restore last tab use Ctrl+Shift+T , if two tabs restore that tab as well with same shortcut. Rather than fishing around for it in the History menu as a closed tab, closed window, or a previous session.
Another possibility is that if there is one extension that mixed up the options like "Close Tab by Double Click" there are probably other extensions that did that as well. If you had that you might have to use the much larger "Tab Clicking Options" and turn off everything but closing a tab on double-click.
