Website access

Hi All,
Wondering if you can help me. I use the wireless connection at my college library to access the internet and up until the last couple of weeks I had no problems with accessing the internet. I am now getting the error message - cannot connect to www.apple.com server or any parts of the apple website for that matter. I also tried www.sony.com and amazon to see if it was just a problem with apples server but it appears not. I can access other websites such as yahoo, google, ebay etc. Therefore, I can't understand why i can access certain websites and not others, I checked one of the desktop computers in the library to see if certain sites had been banned. I typed in www.apple.com and it worked without a hitch. I'd be very grateful for a fix to this very annoying problem.
ALso, can anyone please tell me - If I want to save a webpage within Safari and view it later on with my computer without an internet connection - how can i save it so it retains all the information including photographs or images etc. because i've tried a few different ways and it keeps opening with just text and no images.
Thanks a million in advance.

You can save a web page with all the info on it if you go to File>Save As>Format Web Archive.
Sorry I can help with the web access.

  • Printing from websites accessed through Firefox is unitelligible - just symbols, whereas fine with Safari.

For the last week or so, whenever I try to print from a website accessed by Firefox (either to pdf or printer) the resulting pages(s) are completely unitellibible -- they look like a kind of code. I have McAfee- SitAdvisor is disabeled and Firefox has full access through the Firewall. My Windows FIrewall is turned off.
When I use Safari for the same operations, everything prints fine.
    Please advise.
    Thanks

I also have this problem. I believe it is caused by being connected through a proxy which is adding a second compression to the data. (I think IF uses gzip compression already).
    Added details:
    * Opera also works.
    * I can view the IF admin section on FF
    * I can view the forum if I go through a web proxy.

  • Security Upgrade 2007-002 (PPC) created website access problems?

I recently installed this upgrade, and I think it may be causing interference accessing certain websites, namely motleyfool.com, hotmail.com, and firstrade.com. I'm having this difficulty on multiple machines.
Is anyone else having this same problem?

Yes, and a little relieved to see I'm not the only one. I installed the upgrade 3 days ago, and I'm having major website access problems (including the one from the website co. I WORK for) and it has totally messed up my Entourage accounts. I can't send/receive any mail from one, and only intermittently from the other. Almost 2 hours with an Apple tech earlier to be told that the problem is probably with the upgrade and the only way to fix it is to archive and install. That seem like a nightmare, I'll have to reinstall everything I've installed in the last 2 years and update, customize, etc. Anyone have a better solution? Please, I'm desperate.

  • WRT160N Website Access Restrictions won't work for https sites

I have successfully configured a website blocking access policy that blocks http:\\www.facebook.com on a WRT160N V1 v1.02.2.  I did this by entering www.facebook.com  as URL #1 and "facebook" as a keyword and it works great.  However, I have found that this policy does not block https:\\www.facebook.com.  You would think the keyword would be able to block this but it doesn't work.  Please help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Was there a solution to blocking https://facebook........?
I've entered the http and the https url, in additon facebook as keywords. When doing a search for facebook it's blocked and doesn't retrieve anything. When typing in the http url it doesn't retrieve anything, but once i add that S to the http it pops up.
Has anyone found a solution to blocking  https/facebook?

  • In korea..limited website access.

My husband is in korea with his new mac book pro, attempting to sign on to his school website so he can do classwork, but his internet connection is acting funny. It is only giving him access to some site, and not others... mainly the ones he needs to get to (ie., school site, and apple.com).
Is there something he need to configure?
Or how does he scan to find out if he has a virus?
He is at a school in korea, using a shared internet connection I believe..if this helps.
    Thanks in advance!!

I don't know how it is in Korea, but many school website are only compatible with Internet Explorer. So instead of using Safari/Firefox, he should download Internet Explorer for Mac and give it a shot. Hope this helps!

  • Top 12 website access freezes Safari

On certain websites (wired.com, for instance) Safari will totally freeze up with spinning beach ball whenever I access that site thru the Top 12 preview window. However, when I go there thru my bookmark bar on top I have no problems at all. I'm using Safari 4.0.3. Anybody else having the same freeze problems when using the Top 12 access? Any ideas what it could be?
    Thanks.

    Greetings,
This could be any number of things. But try this to see if it might solve your problem:
Quit Safari if it's running and open System Preferences>Network.
In the DNS Server tab, make sure IPv6 is turned off, and enter these two DNS servers to replace the ones you currently have:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
click Apply Now and quit System Preferences.
Next, do these things in order:
    1. Go to Home/Library/Cookies and delete the Cookies.plist file.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
    4. If you don't want to use the Top Sites feature, open Terminal and paste in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy -int 2
    5. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    6. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    7. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete these files (if you have them):
    Downloads.plist
    History.plist
    Form Values
    LastSession.plist
    WebpageIcons.db
Then repair permissions and restart Safari and see if the problem continues.

  • Financial Websites Access

I am getting so frustrated with my Blackberry Curve R8520. I have a Vodafone contract and the phone was supplied by Phones4U. I deal on the stock market and I need to be able to load Interactive Investor. The site is www.iii.co.uk No-one at Vodafone of Phones4U has any idea why this site won’t load. I keep getting error message: HTTP Error 403: Forbidden. We have tried everything including re-installing the Blackberry software, deleting the Cache, but no luck yet. Can you help me please. Otherwise I’m stuck with a 2 year contract on a phone that can’t do what I want it to do. I tried it on an i phone and no problem at all. I need to be able to access the financial web sites.
    Thank you
    Peter

That is a question for those websites to answer. Firefox 4.0 was released almost 4 months ago, IMO more than enough time for those 2 websites to verify that Firefox 4 & 5 are compliant with W3C standards.
To be able to access that FAFSA website, my advice is to install the Portable Firefox 3.6.19 version to your hard drive. It won't affect your other Firefox installation. <br />

I guess this is related to the issue I've been having for days: http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Speed-Connection-Issues/Network-Error-dns-unresolved-hostname-Connecti...
Now I cannot load my site at all, including facebook as well.
Do we know when BT will fix? Not being able to access my site is a pain in the ass seeing as I have to work on it right now.

  • Preferred location for home dirs and website access

I'm an Open Directory/LDAP newbie, so please bear with me.
I've successfully setup a machine running Tiger Server as an Open Directory Master and providing other services like FTP and Web Hosting. I've been able to create a user home directory and then from a client computer, I have successfully bound to the Tiger Server and logged in using remote authentication. I have two questions from this point on:
    1) I've placed the user home directory on the server in /Shared/UserHomeDirs/testuser. (UserHomeDirs) is a directory I created to house all the various user home directories. Is there a preferred place for storing user home directories. I assume it is not in /Users since that is for local user accounts?
    2) We are a small web development shop and we normally develop sites in a local /Users/username/Sites directory. When I attempt to access the same folder using a browser- http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/~testuser/, I am forbidden access. If I access any subdirectory within, the browser downloads a file rather than showing the contents of the directory or rendering the relevant html/php index file. What's going on here? Is this related to permissions or to where I've place the user home directories on the server?
    Thanks for any help/suggestions,
    Ben

/Users doesn't have to be for local users. If you share it out on the network, and enable it "for user home directories," then you have a network share point. Pretty simple.
Best practices vary here. You can have user home directories on the /Users map point of your OD server if you're a really small shop, but mid-large shops will have a separate server runnign AFP for sharing home directories, just because more servers = more bandwidth and less CPU load. I'd say for < 25 users, putting the OD master and AFP home share point is fine. Especially if you're using portable homes, as that reduces used bandwidth significantly.

  • Adobe Flash Updates December 2014 crash Firefox on iMac. Websites access thus blocked.

Tried to ignore all the messages to update Adobe Flash as this always leads to trouble. But the Firefox blocking of the old version led to new troubles. So I attempted to install the update. Firefox hung up with the whirling globe of death..wouldn't safe start..wouldn't reset. Could access nothing.
Had to uninstall Flash and trash Firefox app and start over with an older version of Firefox (19) drug over from a back-up drive, which Firefox nicely updated to 34.0.5 overnight.
Tried once again to update Flash (this time with an older version). It still crashed Firefox (though not irrevocably this time) and remains squirrely, meaning there are many sites I can no longer log on to and videos do not function properly.
It's the new Adobe Flash incompatibility with my Firefox 34.0.5 on my system that is creating all the problems right now and there doesn't seem to be a solution?
How does one find out what version of Flash is on one's computer and what version actually will work with my current systems?

  • Website access dns and more fun

Hmm, that's a bit odd.  Maybe he is developing that site under the above path, but on a different server/CNAME perhaps?  I would ask the developer as that is weird.

So, we have a fairly typical MS domain setup here.   Lets call it blank.edu.
We have a site hosted by hostgator at www.blank.edu.
The site loads and works fine from inside the domain and has since we added a dns record for it.
The developer is building a new wp site and built it here:  www.blank.edu/dev2
I would think he would have done this another way, but regardless.
That page will not load from inside the network or while connected to the vpn.
I don't think I can make a dns record go to a directory like that. Any ideas on how to get this working while on the lan?
    Thanks
