Website calling .swf and flv files from C:\

I am after information from someone who has achieved this. I
have a website that has a swf embedded in it that is calling a
swf/flv on my hardrive. Firstly is this possible or am I waisting
my time even trying this. I do realise the security issues involved
and I have read posts and tutorials about achieving this but I
still have had no luck. CAN ANYONE HELP ME BEFORE I START PULLING
MY HAIR OUT!!

The reason why I want to access information from the hardrive
is because the information is about 600mb in all but cut up into
60mb parts or chapters. It is for an online learning system but
Australian BroadBand speeds are still way to slow for this sort of
system. I've tried to give these files permissions but I still get
issues. I am considering using Adobe AIR Technology and making a
desktop application that accesses small amounts of informaion from
the server, so basically turning this project on it's head.
If you do have some more information for me that would be
great but I think I'll go the AIR track.

Uploaded swf and flv files - right ?

Hi all -
Just getting to grips with flash movies, however not 100%
i've got it right as yet ! Could someone with experience in flash
movies confirm the files to upload are the swf and flv files to our
server ? Everything appears OK when viewing the movies - take a

just a little concerned of the size of the flv file at a couple of
mb. Is this the correct file to upload or should I try to upload
the fla smaller file?

Hi ,
You can publish your project as MP4 with Cp6. For that --
Do -- File-- Publish-- Media--- (Choose Dropdown) MP4 and (adjust settings, if you like) Hit publish.
You can use the Adobe Media Encoder to convert the Video into FLV format.
Also, you can use the SWF option on Publish Screen to publish the project as a Flash File.

Controller for .swf and .flv files is disappearing

When I place an .swf or .flv file in Dreamweaver, the controller, which I created in Flash, disappears when previewed in Safari. Do I forget about creating a controller in Flash before exporting to the site directory in Dreamweaver and create it in Dreamweaver instead? Can someone either tell me in simple terms how to do this, or direct me to a tutorial? Many thanks.

If you put the page, the .flv file, the .swf files, and the Scripts folder online, we should be able to help. Otherwise, all we can do is make wild guesses as to what you've done.
BTW, the most common mistake is forgetting to upload the Scripts folder if this is what I think it is.

SWF and FLV file sizes

Hello,
I have an flv file and the same flv file in an swf file. Both
files are the same size. So, it seems that it doesn't matter,
whether you import an flv file or an swf file, to keep your file
size small. Is this correct ?

That's just a coincidence.
There is different baggage / overheads with FLV vs SWF. So
you will usually
get some differences .. sometimes SWF smaller, other times
FLV. However,
the actual video payload is the same in both, and the audio
is similar too,
and they are the bulk of the file size. So there shouldn't be
a huge
difference in file size between SWF an FLV.

Using AMP to download and save FLV files from web sites?

I thought I had heard months ago that this new media player was going to allow you to download and save the FLV files from web sites like YouTube and others, where a direct download while possible, isn't the easiest thing to currently do. But I don't really see any way in this new media player to download and save files from web sites....it's plenty willing to play them if they're already saved on your hard drive, but I thought one of the reasons for Adobe building this was to make it easier to get them in the first place?

I'd have to agree. This is one of the most useless products I have seen from a company of this standard. Why they continue to provide this product as an example of what can be done with AIR, is bewildering. Myself and others have posted over and over again that the player deletes the saved movies at some random time, an hour or two hours after they appear to be saved.
What is the point of having a 'saved' icon the CD ICON if that movie will be deleted FOR NO BLOODY reason. I just wasted 400 mb of my quota dowloading moves 3 times...!! just to realise that the application deletes them from the VERY CACHE that it copies them to.
Adobe, if this is what I can expect while trying to view the tutorials for FLEX what will the development experience be like. Myself and others are fed up with posting this bug to Adobe, just to be ignored. How much stress to do you want on your servers before you WAKE UP.
I have been in 4 meetings over the last 2 weeks and everyone has remarked about the 'experience' trying to view these tutorials.
Wake up to yourself. If you want to charge $500 for FLEX then atleast fix this crappy player.
PS. I note that this player is supposedly built with Flex and that the list control truncates rather than wraps, in addition, no 'tool tips', dates are not localised, the video keeps unpausing itself each time I return from the downloads page, no settings for where files should be cached. Occasionally the underlining (grey) window bar appears over the top of the flash window edge. I've used the application for an hour or so...
Where is the alternative... I'll be glad when Adobe get some real competition.. so that they pay attention to input. A big wastefull site if all support does is read and ignore posts.!!!!!!!!!!!!

Swf or flv files on Quicktime.

I would like to know how to convert swf or flv files to Quicktime. It's been quite frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

Quicktime can't play SWF flies. Quicktime stop being able to play SWF files about 5 years ago because of security issues with the files. Quicktime could only play SWF file from Flash version 5 and below. Anyway, if you could convert the SWF file to Quicktime you will loose most of the SWF animation.

Import an FLV file from Adobe Connect into Premiere Elements 12?

The Adobe Connect support staff recommended that we use Adobe Premiere Elements to edit the FLV file that we exported out of their software. We purchased Adobe Premiere Elements 12 based on that advice. Now we see that FLV files are not on the list of supported import files.
How can I import an FLV file from Adobe Connect into Adobe Premiere Elements 12 for editing?

Welcome to the forum.
Over the years, I have used Moyea's Flash Importer plug-in for PrPro, and it has worked perfectly. With about PrPro CS 4, IIRC, Adobe did add an FLV Importer, so Moyea began to suspend development of that plug-in. Then, with the release of the CC version of PrPro, they dropped FLV completely.
Now, Moyea does have other programs, but I do not know if any of them are plug-ins for PrE. However, many of their programs can create, edit and output FLV.
There is also a (free, if memory serves) FLV converter, FLV to AVI, which I used to convert FLV files, before I discovered the Moyea plug-in for my PrPro.
I would look into Moyea, to see if there is anything, that will work as a plug-in to PrE, http://www.video-to-flash.com/products/, and if not, explore a program, such as FLV to AVI: http://www.pazera-software.com/products/flv-to-avi-converter/

I cannot encode .flv files from CS4 using AME

I’m having a problem encoding .flv files from Adobe Media Encoder CS4. All the jobs in the encoder encode for a period of time then stop about a ¼ of the way through the file.
I am encoding from a Matrox preset project at 1280x720p 59.94fps. Some clips have a luma corrector effect on them. After rendering, some clips will come up completely black on the timeline so I have decided to leave them unrendered. I don’t know if that is related to why I cannot encode a .flv file or not.
The settings I’m using for the .flv are:
.flv file, 720p, CBR, 3000kbps.
What’s strange is that I have encoded other .flv files from these same timelines but all have been smaller in screen resolution. That is the only difference. I can also encode .flv files from other projects without issue.
I don’t know why this is not working? Who can Help?!!!

OK, so if you do a quick SAVE AS to a new project, and remove the luma corrector, can you encode all the way through?
I have no experience with Matrox so I won't "go there".

I want to have two folders of Finder so that I can easily drag and drop files from one folder to another

I have been trying to reorganize my files. When in Manila I created a folder called Manila 2015 in Documents. I have the Mother folder Files 2015 with several subfolders like Finances, Personal, Tax etc. I want to have two finder folders simultaneously so that I can drag and drop files from the Manila 2015 folder to the various subfolders in the mother folder Files 2015. I am not able to open two windows of Finder on the desktop.

I have since found out that a new finder window can be opened witht the short cut Command+N.

I have a question about a PDF file that I uploaded using the example.
The file has a size of 10445518 bytes.
After I upload that file, the blob column has a value with a size of 10445516 bytes, 2 bytes less.
SQL> select file_name, dbms_lob.getlength(stored_file) from blob_table;

                       10445516If I download that file using the example, it has the same size as the blob value, 10445516 bytes.
If I open the downloaded file, using Adobe Reader 8.1.1, it first shows this message:
"The file is damaged but is being repaired."
After that, there is not problem using the PDF file in Adobe Reader.
I have tried this with both Internet Explorer 6 and Firefox 2.0.0.11.
I have also tried this with other (smaller) files, and those upload and download correctly.
question:
Why are those 2 bytes lost during upload?

Hope this helps. If not, than your problem is probably not the same as mine was, although the message about file corrupted was the same.
Next thing you can check in this case is if your file exceeds max file upload size. I don't know the exact default value, but if the file is too long I think this upload logic will upload only a part of the file and save it to the DB which can also lead to the same file corrupted error.
You can set the max upload value in web.xml like this:

Is there any such free app in App Store to upload .doc and .pdf files from my iPad mini to Internet?
I usually upload my Resume on different job portals, but it is not possible from Safari or Chrome browsers on my iPad mini, I have to do it from my PC every time just to upload a single file. Looking for a solution to this reported issue.

There is no native ability to upload files other than photos and videos using the built in Safari browser.
Look into iCab Mobile for file uploads to websites. Its not free though, and I'm not aware of a free alternative at this point.

Calling a sql script file from a function.

Hi,
I need to call a sql script file from a user defined function. Currently i am trying to do this in Oracle SQL Developer. i tried calling with
@ {filename}, EXECUTE IMMEDIATE etc, but nothing worked. I get the Compiler error.
Basically my need is to call catldap.sql file so that DBMS_LDAP package gets loaded and then I can call the API functions from this.
Please let me know if this is possible doing in a PL/SQL function.

All SQL and PL/SQL are parsed and executed by an Oracle server process. The SQL and PL/SQL engines each expects a single command block at a time. This server process also cannot break into the local file system to access script files. Nor can it hack across the network to access script files on the client.
In order for the server process to access local files, a directory object needs to be created and the current Oracle schema needs read and/or write access on that directory object. As sound security principles apply.
There's no PL/SQL command to execute a script. You must not mistake SQL*Plus commands (this client has a very limited vocabulary) with PL/SQL commands. SQL*Plus executes its own commands.. and send SQL and PL/SQL commands (a statement block a time) to the Oracle server process to be serviced and executed.
It is also a very bad idea to execute external script contents from inside an Oracle server process - as that script resides externally and thus outside Oracle's security mechanisms. This means that is is pretty easy for someone to access that script, compromise it, and then have you inject and execute the contents of that script into the database.
It is not sound security.
Last issue - it is even worse to have application PL/SQL code dynamically creating (or trying to create) portions of the Oracle data dictionary and PL/SQL call interface.
The database needs to be installed correctly - and this includes loading and executing the required rdbms/admin scripts during database installation. It does not make sense at all for application code to try and execute such scripts. It raises numerous issues, including having to allow that application code full and unrestricted SYS access to the database instance. A very serious security violation.
I do not agree at all with the approach you want to use.
