Website Design in CS2?

Hi All,
I'm running CS2 in Windows XP.
I would like to know if its possible to do a website design (layout) on InDesign CS2. I have also Dreamweaver version 3.0 which is quite old.
I'm looking to see if this is possible and if they are any how to's page. Also, I guess I can convert the Indesign files into HTML.
thanks all,
Alex

CS2 had an "Export for Go-Live" function that would package up the text and images, but that's a far cry from making a web page. It just left you with folders of stuff ready to import into an authoring application.
Web and print are entirely different types of design. Ink on paper is static, but web pages can be very dynamic and will also look different on different browsers and even the same browsers on different computers with different settings. You control the the visual appearance completely on the printed page, but hardly at all on the web, unless you post PDFs.

  • Ideas for a Website Design with DW 5

New to webiste and looking for ideas on website design.  I have a logo and will have products with pictures and descriptions.  Should I use DW pre-design ideas or should I use my own.  I'm not sure how to on my own design, but I might be able to get help through friends.  All ideas and suggestion on how to get started are appreciated.

If you're new to HTML and CSS in general, I highly recommend learning code basics first.  This will make DW CS5 much easier to work with.  Start slow.  Learn new things in stages.  Build 3 or 4 test pages before you tackle a real project.
    Start here:
    HTML & CSS Tutorials - http://w3schools.com/
Adobe  Developer's Center - Getting Started tutorials
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/?view=gettingstarted
When you're comfortable with the DW interface, it is very helpful to start a new project with a pre-built CSS layout that works in all browsers. You can learn a lot from examining the code, too.
Have a look at PVII's CSS Templates or Page Packs.  (NOTE: I have no affiliation with the company; just happen to like their products).

  • What is best software for website design on iMac?

What software can I best use for website design on my iMac?

RapidWeaver or Sandvox is what I recommend for most people - both require little to no knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, or CSS but can be used to create attractive websites with all the modern doodads. DreamWeaver is a powerful program with a very steep learning curve but well worth learning for professionals and power users. Even so, this power user uses RapidWeaver for most tasks today.

It's not clear what kind of website you want to design.
But in general if you want to know you can use jsf with ajax
You can get more info about [JSF here |http://java.sun.com/javaee/javaserverfaces/] and [ajax4jsf|https://ajax4jsf.dev.java.net/]

  • Who makes the nicest, easiest to use Flash website design software?

Please forgive the beginner's question. I would like to build
    a flash site like
    http://www.hockaday.org from an
easy to use Flash template. You get what you pay for so my first
choice isn't something for free but a 30-day free trial version
    would be nice.
    What I like best about
    http://www.hockaday.org is the
great menus and that pictures continually reload in interesting
    ways.
Maybe a template is too restrictive. Who makes the nicest,
easiest to use Flash website design software that allows fast
creation of those fancy menus and with other fast features to do
nice things with pictures and motion?
I need to create a site like
    http://www.hockaday.org
immediately so I don't have the time to learn Flash first. What's
    my best bet?

you are in a catch 22 - you don't have time to learn flash -
yet you need to build an entire site
immediately - you can't - sure you can download a template
that is similar but if this forum is any
proof, you almost need more flash knowledge trying to
decipher most templates in order to edit them
    - search this forum, there are several posts per week from
    non-flash users who purchased templates
and have no clue how to edit them. Often times it is hard for
    an educated flash user to
reverse-engineer a FLA made by somebody else - Flash
documents are blank canvases that can be setup
a myriad ways by different users making the same thing - some
    developers are more organized than
others - most templates are not organized but rather thrown
    together for a quick profit.
You will simply need to learn enough flash to understand how
it works or hire somebody to edit the
    template for you.
    hope this helps.

  • What is the best way to upload icons I created on illustrator, onto a photoshop file of a website design?

I currently in the process of designing a website on Photoshop. I have designed some icons for the website using Illustrator. What is the best way to upload these icons onto the photoshop file and keep them looking crisp and high quality? I have tried a number of ways but all seem to come out pixilated.

What you need to do is make sure you are creating the Illustrator icons at the same ppi as the Photoshop document and at the correct size. If you have created the icons say with 300ppi but are in pixels it won't carry the same properties as the website you are creating if that has been set up as 72ppi and therefore will distort.
Once you have mastered that then you are best (if you think there may be changes to the icons later down the line) to create .ai files of each icon and place them intt the Photoshop document, then if you make any changes to the source .ai file it will update within you website design.
If you don't see the icons changing then you can always just copy and paste directly from Illustrator to Photoshop and make any changes on the fly by making sure you keep it as a smart object.

We're going to have to disagree on the definition of
    manufacture.
There are more meanings to the word. In its simplest form, it
    merely
    means to make.
    Dictionary.com:
    2. the making or producing of anything; generation
    5. to work up (material) into form for use
    American Heritage Dictionary:
    1. a. To make or process (a raw material) into a finished
    product,
especially by means of a large-scale industrial operation.
    2. To create, produce, or turn out in a mechanical manner
    Online Etymology Dictionary:
    something made by hand
    WordNet:
    1. the organized action of making of goods and services for
    sale
    Kenerman English Multilingual Dictionary:
to make, originally by hand but now usually by machinery and
    in large
    quantities
My point is that there ARE firms who are absolutely mass
    producing
websites. These are the folks who offer the "one from column
    A, one
from column B" sites, sometimes Flash and sometimes HTML.
    Minimal
labour, minimal customization - and these sites are most
    definitely
    marketed and priced as commodities.
It all comes down to what the business does and how it is
    marketed. Do
you make and sell a product: a website? Or do you sell a
    service?
My company sells a service. From all appearances, yours sells
    websites.
Not sure how we got on this track from what the office looks
    like.

  • New website design apps

What are some of the new website design apps that current iWeb users are going to?

Ethmoid is right.  But after MMe is discontinued iWeb will has some problems but can be fixed as described below:
It's now confirmed that iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
In addition the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on.
HOWEVER, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still currently available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those copies still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD.
This may also be of some help to you: Life After MobileMe.

Since Microsoft FrontPage 2003 is not compatible with my MacBookPro, and DreamWeaver is a couple hundred dollars more than I'd like to spend, I wonder if anyone has any recommendations for comparable software for website design for Macs?

iWeb doesn't let me do enough of my own design work.

As a graphic designer foremost and website designer
increasingly, I am always looking for inspiration from my next
project. Do you have any sites that you have worked on yourself or
that you particularly regard as state of the art that you could

    navigation with accessibility always considered.
I know there is such a huge diversity of functionality and
content that drives a sites look but please post a couple of your
    favorites here.
As far as the future, what do you see next generation of
website styles being, if we say that current styles are:
    The shiny button
    The round cornered box
    The drop shadow background
I know Adobe has a huge influence on this as it's products

    Here are a few:
This may not show as actual errors, but your <head>
    section has a
LOT of redundant code. Multiple links to identical .js and
    .css
    files, duplicated JavaScript code, etc...
In your template "BottomRight" region, you have several items
    that
belong above the </head> at the top of the page.
    However, since they
already do exist there, you can delete them completely.
    Specifically
the link to AdelanteStyles.css and that whole block of
    JavaScript.
Get rid of the <body> element in that section, too. You
    can only
have one body in a Web page.
Since you're using XHTML 1.0 Transitional (do you need to?)
    you have
    several <br> that should be <br />
After that, I /think/ the only thing left (outside of Flash
    stuff)
might be adding a </p> just before the <form>.
    Could be wrong,
    though.
