Website designed in CS3 now appears small on wide monitors

I designed 3 websites using Dreamweaver CS3 (1 using the 3 column fixed, header and footer and 2 using the two column fixed, header and footer). When these websites are viewed in a non wide monitor they look fine. When they are viewed in a wide screen monitor the right and left margins are really large and the website looks very small. Here is the link to the website: www.quickflash.com. Is there something that can be done about this?
I have noticed this with other websites also. They are so slim and the right and left margins are so large.
Please advise.
Thank you,
Heather

So you published first on flash player 8 and also the html, uploaded and then exported on flash player 10, uploaded just the swf and the html stayed the same?
It could be a problem of the html page being generated for an older version of flash player. Don't know but i had this problem.

  • How can I permanently increase the size of websites? They appear small on my 1080p laptop display and I dont want to press ctrl + on every website.

I bought a new laptop with a resolution of 1920x1080. Whenever I open sites with firefox, they appear small. I have to press ctrl++ to zoom in for every page I visit. This is getting annoying. Is there any way to permanently zoom a page so I don't have to do it for every website?
P.S. I know that I can increase the font size permanently that that doesn't help with the images and the page doesn't render correctly.

You can also increase the String pref layout.css.devPixelsPerPx from 1.0 to 2.0 in 0.1 steps to see what works best.<br />
In Firefox 3.6 and later this pref is a String value parsed to a float and allows to fine tune the dimensions of all elements more precisely.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

  • Dreamweaver CS3 problem with small fonts

    Hello,
I am having a problem with text appearing
REALLY SMALL and unreadable in CS3, when it looked fine in
Dw8. It also looks fine in in all browsers.
I talked to Adobe tech support, and they said something about
my CSS file not being correct. I looked at it, and nothing seems
    out of the ordinary.
If it was a problem with my CSS file, wouldn't it look bad in
    the browser as well?
    Any suggestions?
    Ron

    Ron,
Thanks for the sample file. This is a bit complicated, so
    please bear
    with me.
Up until DW8, DW rendering always targeted the most popular
    browser at
that time. For DW8, that was IE6. Traditionally, the most
    popular
browser was the most popular because it was the best browser,
    but that
no longer holds true. So, DW CS3 now targets CSS 2.1. Note
    that DW does
not support all of the CSS 2.1 spec, but what it does support
    follows
    the spec.
Your page does not have a DOCTYPE, so it renders in "quirks"
    mode in the
browsers that I tested it in on WinXP (FF2, IE7, Opera9). DW
    renders
this page in IE6 quirks mode, but DW CS3 no longer supports
    quirks mode.
Put a DOCTYPE such as the following in your page to see what
    I mean:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01
    Transitional//EN"
    http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
The reason that the font is so small is because of the
    font-size
    property in this rule:
    TD {
    FONT-SIZE: 80%;
Your page has tables nested 4 levels deep, so the 80% is
    compounded at
each level. I fixed this in DW CS3 by creating a style sheet
    with this rule:
    TD { FONT-SIZE: 100% !important; }
and the applied it as a Design-time Style Sheet, although you
    may be
able to remove the 80% altogether.
    Hope this helps,
    Randy

We're going to have to disagree on the definition of
    manufacture.
There are more meanings to the word. In its simplest form, it
    merely
    means to make.
    Dictionary.com:
    2. the making or producing of anything; generation
    5. to work up (material) into form for use
    American Heritage Dictionary:
    1. a. To make or process (a raw material) into a finished
    product,
especially by means of a large-scale industrial operation.
    2. To create, produce, or turn out in a mechanical manner
    Online Etymology Dictionary:
    something made by hand
    WordNet:
    1. the organized action of making of goods and services for
    sale
    Kenerman English Multilingual Dictionary:
to make, originally by hand but now usually by machinery and
    in large
    quantities
My point is that there ARE firms who are absolutely mass
    producing
websites. These are the folks who offer the "one from column
    A, one
from column B" sites, sometimes Flash and sometimes HTML.
    Minimal
labour, minimal customization - and these sites are most
    definitely
    marketed and priced as commodities.
It all comes down to what the business does and how it is
    marketed. Do
you make and sell a product: a website? Or do you sell a
    service?
My company sells a service. From all appearances, yours sells
    websites.
Not sure how we got on this track from what the office looks
    like.

  • Design Standard CS3 for Mac - cannot update either through installers or through "update' button - message: cannot connect to internet

    Hello:
    Hoping someone can help me.
    I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro.
I use the Design Standard CS3 Adobe suite.
    I have the following issues:
    1. CANNOT update from Illustrator CS3 13 to 13.0.2.
    - If I try hitting the update button through the Illustrator menu I get the error message " Cannot connect to the Internet. Please check your settings and/or firewall" .
    - I try using the standalone updater recommended as a fix in the forums, that says update failed as well.
Have uninstalled. re installed, clean installed CS3 about 5-7  times so far with no luck.
Followed all the rules, ran the cleaner
The update problem has always been there as long as I can remember. I think the issue started with Mountain Lion when I lost access to printers via CS3 and Illustrator/Photoshop would frequently crash after a layer "move".
Since like everyone else Ie paid a small fortune for this software, I finally decided I needed to do everything I could to update it, but am still unable to!
    2. Since recently upgrading to Yosemite, Illustrator launch is very random - sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt.
    - Have installed Java RunTime as mentioned in forums, hasn't helped.
Slightly at my wits end here with this madness, any workarounds or solutions much appreciated, especially for point 1.
    Many thanks!

Hi venkatnil, I am suddenly having the same problem with my CS3 after recently upgrading to Yosemite. I have actually been working with Photoshop, InDesign and even opened Illustrator to make sure I still could. No problems until one morning I couldn't open Photoshop. It was saying it "could not initialize because it couldn't find the disk". But just Photoshop; all the others still work fine.
So, I have another disk (not the one that originally installed CS3 all those years ago) to load Photoshop CS3. But it won't load and says "required resources are missing".
Looking around here for some answers I saw your post and realized that I've always had that same problem with the updater not able to find internet connection, too. AND I had to download an older version of Java RunTime, which seemed to go smoothly.
Now that a month or so have passed, I'm hoping you found a way to deal with this problem and can share it with me?! Or have we run into some small bug between CS3 and Yosemite that no one is going to bother with?

  • Once rich images in Photoshop now appear flat.

Photos I had previously edited in Photoshop now appear flat in Photoshop, Bridge, Illustrator, Preview, and in the Finder. These same files look good on websites, and also when I drag them into an email.
The Color Settings in Photoshop match the files' color profiles (Adobe RGB).
I had recalibrated the monitor using native gamma and native white point, but the colors don't return to their richness when I go back to the default calibration. Plus, the images still look good on websites and in emails, so I don't know if the screen calibration is the problem.
I feel that I must have made some setting change, but I can't figure out what I need to change back.
I use MAC OS 10.7.5, Creative Suite CS6.
    HELP!
    Thanks.

It's not entirely clear what you did here. What do you mean by "going back to default calibration"?
Calibration consists of two independent processes - calibration and profiling. Calibration is a modification of the monitor itself, to put it in a somewhat more "ideal" state than it was. Calibration does not have very high precision, and is not part of the color management chain.
Color management enters with the second part, the monitor profile. The profile is built after the calibration is finished. It is a complete description of the monitor in its calibrated state. The standard color management chain kicks in at this point: Document profile (source) is converted to the monitor profile (destination).
IOW, display color management relies on the calibration being already in place. So if you change the calibration, you also need to make a new profile to describe the new state of the display. If you just change the calibration, but use the same profile, color managed applications will send the wrong numbers to the display and all bets are off.

  • Created website in flash cs3, wont open once hosted...

I tried to find the answer here in the forums but couldn't,.  I'm sorry, i bet this question has been posted before..
I created a website in flash cs3.  published it so that I now have an index.html, home.swf and AC_RunActiveContent.js file.
when I upload these to host, the url just shows blank white page.  I called customer support of host, godaddy, and they said the server could not find the swf file.
are they named incorrectly?  I'm new to this...
    thank you very much

According to a quick check there is no file by the name of...
    So... two things:
    1. Never use spaces in the names of files you intend to use on the web.  That space can break code up.  It is best to use an underscore if you need to, but not an empty space.
    2. After you change the name and get things updated in the code for the new name, make sure your spelling is correct.
After you have loaded the newly named file you should be able to access it directly on the web using ... newfilename.swf
where newfilename is whatever new name you give it.

  • Even editing text in Design View is now difficult in DW CC?

    Hi All,
Even editing text in Design View is now difficult in DW CC? I just upgraded.
It seems difficult - or impossible - to select, copy and paste multiple blocks of text from one place to another - unless you work in the Code View.
Text blocks are separate entities, separately edited? I can't even copy and paste an image from one file into another.
Previously, I'd regularly select an image - or a load of text - and replace it with some copied from elsewhere by 'pasting'.
I must be missing something. Perhaps there's another mode of working.
    Thanks,
    John

    You're probably in Live View.
CC2014.1 does some strange things when it comes to Live and Design Views.
    1. Design View is gone for Fluid Grid Layouts, so all editing has to be done in Code or Live View. There is a work around to get Design View back for those in Post #6 here: Editing Text and Adding Links Is Crazy in DW CC-2014.1
You can also add your voice to get it back here: Provide "Design View" for Fluid Grid Webpages
    2. Design and Live Views are now a dropdown menu. Check the top left of your workspace, you should see Code | Split | Live with a small triangle next to Live. Click it to access Design View in everything but FGL pages

  • Design Standard CS3 Keeps Crashing

I have Design Standard CS3, I've had it for a couple years now. It's always worked just fine but lately all the programs associated with it are crashing. This consists of Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. It sometimes crashes when I open things. If I get it open at all I can work on it but it's pointless because whenever I try to save or export any of it, the program crashes. If it matters I'm working on a Mac OS 10.4 which seems to be working fine, no other programs are crashing. I have other Adobe programs, they're working fine. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling it, still having problems. I'm at a loss of what to do. I've also tried installing various updates, still no go. Any advice you have you be great, thanks in advance.

first i would rule out user Preferences (reinstalling does not delete preferences)
    >>create a New User account and test...
if the problem clears in New User, go back to old user and begin trashing preferences
if not, then use something like Cocktail OSX to clear caches
Disk Utility> Repair Disk (and making sure your boot and scratchdisk HDs have plenty of free open unfragmented space)
    and rule out your fonts
next an OSX Archive install may help
if none of that works, i would put in a new hard drive and start from scratch (not migrating problems back into it)

  • Website Design in CS2?

    Hi All,
I'm running CS2 in Windows XP.
I would like to know if its possible to do a website design (layout) on InDesign CS2. I have also Dreamweaver version 3.0 which is quite old.
I'm looking to see if this is possible and if they are any how to's page. Also, I guess I can convert the Indesign files into HTML.
    thanks all,
    Alex

CS2 had an "Export for Go-Live" function that would package up the text and images, but that's a far cry from making a web page. It just left you with folders of stuff ready to import into an authoring application.
Web and print are entirely different types of design. Ink on paper is static, but web pages can be very dynamic and will also look different on different browsers and even the same browsers on different computers with different settings. You control the the visual appearance completely on the printed page, but hardly at all on the web, unless you post PDFs.

I have several folders setup in my Safari.  However, when I try to add a website to them, it never appears.  When I add a folder and add a website to it, the website appears.  Help?

I thank you for the response.  Apple does some assinine things sometimes and this is one of them.  Ask the planet the difference between a movie and a home video and with the exception of Apple, you'd get 100% consenus on the what difference is.  A home video is something that I shoot, like my kids birthday party.  A movie is something I urchased either via download or a DVD that I ripped.  Unbelievable!   The fact that Apple has chosen not to distinguish based upon which folder I tell it is Movies and which folder is Home Videos is really hard to fathom - sounds like something Windows would do. I find it funny that in my iTunes movies sub-section of the movies section, the movie icons have a cloud icon in upper right corner to distinguish it as bought from Apple iTunes versus no cloud icon for movies that I have ripped - so the distintion was already made and clearly visible.  Now - everything just defaults to "home videos" if I try to import a new ripped DVD - why even bother to have this distinction on the iTunes bar?  WOW!
As for your direction, I do not understand what you are telling me - what Media Kind and what Options tab are you referring to?  I see no Options tab in iTunes.  Right licking on the movie icon does not yield media kind or options as well.  Gping to the source file does not yield these options either.
    Thanks again for your help.
