Hi I need some help please as above I have just purchased my first mac 27" and as much I love it as a newbie im having some teething troubles, when say Facebook or my company website is displayed it is only displayed in the centre of the screen I know I can zoom in and out but that doesnt look great and dont want to have to that on each page display, how do i fix this please.
Also the toolbar at the top of the page is so small and hard to read is there a way to increase and fix the size
    Thanks for your help

For the browser window, just drag it to the top left of the screen (click and hold on the top bar with the traffic lights to drag), then in the bottom right of the window you'll see a rectangle with diagonal hatching. Click and hold on that and drag the window to the size you want.
Clicking on the green dot at top left will expand the window to fit the screen, clicking it again will shrink it back to where it was (this doesn't work in Finder windows quite the same).
The menu bar size is set in the bowels of the OS, though there may be third-party applications which can alter it.
As it's size is relative to the screen resolution, you could try reducing the resolution in System Preferences > Displays to see if that would suit you better.

  • Upscaled images look blurry, is there a way to sharpen them? In particular, zooming on pages with images that actually contain only text are hard to read.

I am zooming in on my homework in mastering physics. I am using a large screen and sitting far away. It uses a lot of images containing the text I need to read, but when the images are upscaled, they become very blurry and hard to read. A simple sharpen effect after it is resized would fix the problem. Is there a way to do this in firefox? like a command line switch or maybe something in about:config? Thanks

It may sound counter-intuitive, but could you try disabling graphics hardware acceleration? Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If you restart Firefox, is the issue resolved?

  • Occassionally when I visit a website, the menu bar becomes gray and hard to read, being restored only bt minimizing and restore.

Occasionally I have noticed that the menu bar appears a hard to read gray. This seems to occur after a visit to accuweaher.com.. It is reproducible even though both the foreground and background menu bars for the desktop are set to black.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Websites look narrow, why don't they appear to take up the full screen width?

It seems to me that in the last few days the appearance of some websites has change. When reading nytimes.com or other sites, the webpage does not take up the full width of the screen. There are vertical spaces on both sides. Therefore, the webpage and the text on it looks smaller than it did before and it is hard to read. This change may have happened shortly after I changed to Firefox4 from an earlier version. Is there a way I can change the settings to resume the previous appearance of the webpages taking up the full width of my screen? Thanks!

You can use one of these extensions to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages:
    * Default FullZoom Level: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/
    * NoSquint: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/nosquint/

I have been noticing that when using the computer the mouse keeps going in places where I really do not want and just now select the sentence without I have done anything. Sometimes goes to places like bookmark or open tabs in website when I am reading a page.
Also I have noticed opened windows that I have not opened.
I have verified the sharing folder and also the remote access but it not let me turn it off.
Also I have add a password to my computer and even using the same one it looks like is not working.
The I photo stopped working, Mac Mail does not let me add rules (this is from one day to the other)
The computer is mine, the internet I use is payed by me with a password. I did not give permission to anyone to use my computer or share my files.
In system preferences in the sharing folder is showing everyone and staff.
My computer is private I do not own a company and I do not have a network set up in my house.
I had my photos removed from my computer and even after trying to reinstall I photo and fix the Mac Mail is not working.
I am receiving emails saying that I have sent emails to people that I do not know and including in a time where I am working and not using the computer.
Any suggestions in how to fix this issue?
    I really appreciate.

With the multitude of issues you have I would take it to an Apple store or AASP and have them sort it out. Then I would sign up for Apple camp or one on one.

As a novice, some things I see: The footer has redundant, unecessary images (4 large images-for your services--REDUNDANT) odd? The text part of footer: text seems close, scrunched, have some space between heading and items, DO NOT CENTER TEXT!,
One of the service links bought to page with SAME LARGE image on homepage-change picture, don't use same large image for 2 different pages.
DO NOT use CONTACT US as 1 of 5 links on menubar. Do in another creative way, and/or use footer for contact. I think this looks amateurish (my opinion of course).
If I remember, the homepage and the rest of site, have exact same page structure.--See if you can atleast change the structure of inner pages versus the homepage.
    Didn't look at enough, but..maybe...
each of your services should be a main menu link on your menubar. I would not put contact us on menubar, and you also had another menubar link with no dropdown( of course ok, but maybe could restructure)--Also your last service (on right of menubar)---why is that one different, and not included with the other services??
Seems like your menubar (items) structure could be reworked.--I would suggest, briefly looking at, to maybe have each service as a primary menu heading/title..YOU MAY NOT NEED A DROPDOWN MENU? Make sure if dropdown it is necessary.
Local security should be one of your services.
Have your footer logo, as is to left, but maybe put your footer links more to the right;;It will 'balance' the footer section
Your top logo seems too close to your main LARGE image (Which btw, seems oddly large compared to the rest of your site?)--That LARGE top image(the same palce on every same looking page), seems too big for your page--Why doen't it line up with the rest off your page content?

  • How to make website look correct in Safari, Firefox, and Chrome?

Hello there. I'm working on a website which was inherited to me by someone who died. So I am left with all of his coding which is about 4 years old. Now I'm working on positioning of the website and i've found that the only browser the website looks like it's supposed to is Safari and I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it look right in all the browsers and on a phone or tablet. It might be easier if I started from scratch but unfortunately I don't get that luxury. Please help me.
    Here's a link...MuseumOfNaturalistory.com

I dont understand what some of these errors are asking of me. For instance, this one...
    if (xmlhttp.readyState==4 && xmlhttp.status==200)

This message may appear in several cases:
You tried to include the "<" character in your page: you should escape it as "&lt;"
You used an unescaped ampersand "&": this may be valid in some contexts, but it is recommended to use "&amp;", which is always safe.
Another possibility is that you forgot to close quotes in a previous tag.
That's the way the code has to be in order to function. What does it want from me?
    And then here....
Line 71, Column 5: an attribute value must be a literal unless it contains only name characters   </div>✉You have used a character that is not considered a "name character" in an attribute value. Which characters are considered "name characters" varies between the different document types, but a good rule of thumb is that unless the value contains only lower or upper case letters in the range a-z you must put quotation marks around the value. In fact, unless you have extreme file size requirements it is a very very good idea to always put quote marks around your attribute values. It is never wrong to do so, and very often it is absolutely necessary.
Line 71, Column 5: character "<" is not allowed in the value of attribute "id"   </div>✉It is possible that you violated the naming convention for this attribute. For example, id and name attributes must begin with a letter, not a digit.
I have absolutely no clue what it is asking of me. Doesn't it have to be that way? Also why when I go to "Line 71" that isn't where this actual code is? Is there some special way to decipher this?

  • 27-inch (2560 x 1440) very hard to read

I just bought an iMac 27-inch (a replacement from the previous iMac 24 inch)
I found out that at full resolution 2560 x 1440, the display is really hard to read as all the icons are minuscule.
While you can adjust the size of the folders on the desktop, when you're inside a software (say InDesign) the palettes are ridiculously minuscule.
I had to actualy switch the display back to 1920 x 1200 resolution to have a interface that looks good and doesn't strain the eyes
But now I have two black bars on each side of the screen
Is there another way to have a eye-friendly resolution while enjoying the full screen experience?
or am I doomed to use the computer at a lower resolution?
    Txs

The 27" display high pixel density does make stuff appear small sometimes.  But you can always zoom in to the point of interest just by using the control button in conjunction with the magic mouse finger slide up/down (or a mouse with a scroll wheel).  You can also change view options for finder items to enlarge icons and the identifying font size.
In apps that display fonts you can usually change the default font sizes (text editors, browsers for example).
It just takes a little bit of getting used to but after a while you won't think about it.  I use the zoom feature a lot.

  • Icons and toolbar text is way too small and hard to read (kind of fuzzy)

The toolbars (menu bars) at the top of the screen have letters and icons and symbols that are way too small to read. Also the background color options are limited. Light black on grey is hard to read. I have tried customizing all that I can. There used to be a thing in control panel called display, and we could pick all sorts of fonts and colors for all those toolbar strips. Where did that go? I am VERY FRUSTRATED!!

I've tried those, and have just decided to go back to 3.6. Firefox just seems to have too much input lately trying to tweak and adjust. Meanwhile, the later versions just end up looking worse and worse with each iteration. Icons too small, monochromatic tool bar, making icons harder to distinguish, and, worst of all, frequent crashes.
Perhaps some of these problems are because I'm using XP, but I've noticed many if not all of the appearance deficiencies with my laptop running Win7. Probably the most annoying thing about later versions, though, is the inability to set memory time for history. This alone is a deal breaker for me, and ultimately, as IE has gotten better, I may just go back there.

  • Safari underlines all links in webpages, like My Yahoo!....hard to read

I'm a new Mac user and am used to browsing in Internet Explorer, which only underlines links on webpages when you roll your mouse over the links. I've gone through Safari preferences but can't seem to find any option for this. For me, it makes it hard to read webpages like My Yahoo! where it's all my news links set up. On lots of webpages it doesn't underline links. Any suggestions?

  • Fonts are pixelated, fuzzy, hard to read and i do have cleartype ON

I have two monitors one acer x203h and one dell 17 inch monitor. The acer uses firefox and the dell uses chrome. Let me repeat my cleartype is ON. Firefox does render the page correctly most of the time and then just turns pixelated, fuzzy, hard to read, etc. Moving the page up and down sometimes helps sometimes not. I move firefox to the dell monitor and it pixelates less but still does. The chrome doesnt pixelate on either monitor but it does look a bit fuzzy. I do have IE but only use it for windows updates. The larger the font the less chance of the font pixelating.
Current font is Arial size 18. Proportional is San Serif with the rest of the choices being Arial. Allow pages to choose their own pages is checked off.

The gfx.content.azure.enabled switch helped, I am using Firefox 19.0.2
I hope that changing gfx.content.azure.enabled doesn't create problems elsewhere.

  • Can I import the way my website looks to iWeb?

I have a website and I would like to add links there through iWeb. Is there any way I can import the way my website looks and is set up on server to iWeb so I can add links there through iWeb? Or do I have to build website from scratch in iWeb?

You could try editing your pages in Kompozer, which is free, and see how you get on, before purchasing a program.
As said, iWeb won't import pages: and if you haven't been using it to date I would seriously not recommend you to start now: it's abandonware and though it works more-or-less OK at the moment it might well be broken by a future OS upgrade: there is no support for it.

  • Using safari web pages have writing over writing hard to read

I do a lot of surfing from web page to web page.  Lately it is very hard to read many of the pages as there is writing over writing.  Sometimes a section on the page is too small and I cannot read to entire content.

Two main things you can try are to reset Safari, which can be selected under the Safari menu item and try deleting the .plist.
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Hold down the option key while using the Finder "Go To Folder" command. Enter ~/Library. Delete the .plist(s) for the application.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • HELP! Please :) my website looks different in different browsers. Link boxes are showing in IE!!

Please help me!  I'm pretty new to web design.  Built this website from scratch - designed in photoshop and put together in dreamweaver.  I launched the site and it looks great in safari, but had a friend look at it with explorer and the blue link boxes (the one that lets you know you have something linked in dreamweaver) are showing up on the interent explorer browser and I can only assume there are issues in other browsers as well.  Please help if you can.  Here is a link to my website:   www.shandryntrumble.com  Thanks

Thanks for your help!Should I create an external style sheet?  I'm still unsure of where and what to put in the document.  Where are the CSS  tags?  And what exactly do I place in them?  Sorry, I'm so new to this.  Thanks for your patience.

Bad information.  You don't need a class for this.  Simply add the following CSS code to your style sheet.  An external style sheet is preferred but it if you don't have one yet, add this code to the CSS inside the  tags of your HTML document. /*remove borders from all linked images*/a img    Nancy O.
