Website on CD Activex alert
Need to put a website on a "hand-out" CD. The site contains
Flash animation. Anyone know how to do this while eliminating the
activex alert a viewer wil get when opening the site?
Flint, yeah, that's a shame that the author assumed that anyone using the CD would be playing it on a Windows machine.
You say that were hoping to find an HTML file to edit. Sometimes, a clever Flash author will use a text file, from which the Flash movie pulls certain variables. In this case, it's very conceivable, and would be extremely lucky for you, if there is a .txt file on the CD that might include these links.
Otherwise, you should write to the Web site owners and tell them that they created a Windows-Only CD, which may not have been their intent, and at the least is poor execution.
Now, another thought, in case you can not find a .txt file with the links:
If you can grab, copy, or create a list of the PDFs, then you can create your own html. Based on your example, the PDF's do not have user-friendly (i.e., revealing) names; so it might take more effort than it's worth; but it's possible. (Ideally, you could "slurp" them into an application that would do the hard work for you.)

Quicktime on a Web Page ActiveX
I cannot get this webpage to play Quicktime on Windows:
http://www.lionsgatebethesda.com/virtualtour_quicktime.html
Is there something I am missing in the code? Why on earth did Windows do that stupid ActiveX thing?
-KirkThe file works just fine on this PC using IE 6:
http://www.lionsgatebethesda.com/Video/lionsgateREF.mov
I did not get any ActiveX alert dialog.
Your file does use the H.264 Video codec which requires the viewing machine have QuickTime version 7 installed. -
Enable ActiveX for one particular site through GPO
Hi,
I need to provide seamless experience for accessing
WebSite that requires ActiveX.
Did some search.... and created GPO. But it
not works.
1. Allowed ActiveX for the required site on test
computer.
2. In Add-Ons of Browser found the name of needed
Add-on.
3. In C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files found files with the
Add-on name:
dll and inf. In inf file
found:
[CryptoHelperATL.dll]
file-win32-x86=thiscab
clsid={8BD32365-35F1-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXX}
FileVersion=5,0,0,0
RegisterServer=yes
; end of INF file
4.
created GPO:
USER: Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet
Explorer/Security Features\Add-On Manager
In Add-on List Setting entered
clsid for the Value Name (8BD32365-35F1-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXX} and 1 for the
Value.
5. Policy was applied to newly logged in User, but when accessed
the site the prompt for Allowing ActiveX popped up.
What I am missing?
Thanks.
--- When you hit a wrong note its the next note that makes it good or bad. --- Miles Davis> answer yes.... then the browser will allow the site to use the x86 version.
1. you mean YES (allow) in popup? But it pop ups without GPO
if not what yours YES is applies to?
> map the domain to the trusted sites zone where Enhanced protected mode is turned off by default.
this is interesting option. I checked this thread (from 2010-to 2014)
People discussing all pros and cons... At the end there is kind of solution for all. Should check...
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/0baa6428-bf48-4e8a-82e1-b961918090d9/how-to-add-trusted-sites-to-group-policy
If you can clarify your approach, would be great.
Also, IE10 is 64bit. May be that is why my GPO is not working?

Java / activex disaster zone here... Help!
please help me.. ever since I received this new pc from our IS dept, I have had problems with java and applets online. I am the designated webmaster for our site, but dont let that fool you - I am clueless.
My IE wont run applets, says "your security settings do not allow websites to use ActiveX controls installed on this computer. This page may not display correctly. Click her for more information."
Nothing happens when I click (right or left). So I cannot see java scrollers, gifs, etc, even on my own site. The ActiveX settings are set at Enable, and the java settings are all active. I use Java plug-in 1.5.0_02
And for webdesign, I use an online software from the website developer, and everytime I use Java to upload photos, it locks up.
These 2 things seem to be connected. Once upon a time I was able to see the gifs online but then could not upload, so I chose the lesser evil. dont recall what those settings were.
Please help!!!???? Any advise? In IE, when it blocks an ActiveX control from running, you can click on th eyellow par at the top of the IE window, and choose to allow the ActiveX to run/install. I have no clue about your file upload problem, and this is probably not the right forum for the question.

Keep getting alert to uninstall Flash Player
Hi, I need some help troubleshooting an issue with the Flash Player. I'm using Mac OS X v10.6.8, Firefox v3.6.23, Flash Player 10,3,183,7.
Sometimes when I visit websites I get an alert to uninstall the Flash Player. I really don't see a pattern as to which websites they are other than they probably serve Flash content. It doesn't happen too frequently, maybe every week or so. I don't know if the frequency is affected by the fact that I don't restart too often (meaning maybe I'd see it every day if I restarted my Mac every day?) Here's a screenshot:
Here are the menu options I see for Install Manager:
And when I click on Services Preferences, I get the Keyboard Shortcuts preferences which doesn't seem to help (or make any sense as to why I'd want to view those preferences):
I think my computer's pretty secure ad/virus-wise as I'm on a corporate network and pretty much just use this computer for work. We use Symantec Endpoint Protection.
Thanks for the help in advance. The unisntaller to my knowledge should not kick off on its own with a dialog. Something seems off. I think it would be a good idea to run the uninstall sequence from the below link and reinstall the player from htttp://get.adobe.com/flashplayer

The necessary items on some of the BC/BS drop down menus do not appear when using Firefox. I had to open that same provider website in Internet Explorer in order to enter claims correctly. Not sure how a web browser alters content and functionality of websites.
This is likely because the website is using ActiveX, which is only supported by Internet Explorer (it's very insecure, which is why no other browser supports it).
You can try:
* [[Websites look wrong or appear differently than they should]]
* If that fails, contact the webmaster. -

This might help:-

Also, if you're using VS, if you add a reference to the SW
ActiveX control
in the Solution Explorer pane then you can look at what's
available in the
object browser (as in double-click the reference after you've
added it).
Other than that, I have no idea.

Hi I have a problem, all of a sudden my ActiveX seems to have stopped working, it might sound trivial but i need this for my work and don know how to get it working again, can someone help please?
ThanksHi
ActiveX control applications are tiny programs which work like the java applets.
Using ActiveX you can run different animations, sound, etc on the internet websites!
The ActiveX is a Microsoft product!
The ActiveX settings can be change in the IE -> Internet options -> Security -> Custom level
I dont know what problems appear on your notebook but maybe some options are not enabled and you should check it -
Annoying Problem - Flash Installation
Basically my problem is this. Whenever I go on certain
websites, sometimes the flash content works and other times it
doesn't. I tried to reinstall Flash Player 8 but it says it's
already installed, but then when I go to view flash content on
another site it says I do not have Flash Player. I went into
Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and I removed Flash Player 8
(Which strangely there seemed to be 2 of, maybe where the problem
lies), but then I come back to the website to try install it and it
says it's already installed.
I'm a bit confused wondering why it says I have it installed
despite just removing it myself, but I went and tried another site
and it's still not working. I don't really know what to do as the
installer on the site says I have the player, but everywhere else
says I don't. But there is no way of downloading the player from
the site and installing it on my PC from a client-side file from
what I can gather, so I have to use the installer on the site which
is annoying as I feel the site way is not actually installing
anything at all. I don't get the ActiveX alert from the site
either, but I'm sure that's because I already have it, as this is
only a recent problem.
I'm currently using IE 7.0.5346.5 (Beta 2) on Windows XP Home
(w/ SP2), but I updated my IE to try and counter the problem but it
didn't work. When I use Netscape 8.0 the flash content seems to
show up perfectly and I have no problem, but I prefer using IE to
the very slow-loading Netscape.
I read about a similar problem on here but it seemed be about
the Safari browser and not IE, so hopefully somebody knows/can help
with this? I'd be eternally greatful for any solution anyone can
provide.Salutations DaveDave123, tu nous disais :

Hi Dave,
I've got a confirmation that my VBScript is appropriate :
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=184&threadid=11470 48&enterthread=y
BTW, if you use Norton as AntiVirus, you'll have an alert
because of
the access to registry and files inside the script.
http://docxp.mvps.org/b1n/FlashRepair.exe
This script can't repair ALL flash problems, but i think it
is
fine for yours. On a fully functionnal Flash installation, it
can't
break anything.
What the script is doing ?
0) Check I.E. user langage for french or english use in
dialogs
1) Close all open Internet Explorer windows
2) change registry rights (to allow 3) or re-installation) on
flash related keys
3) register latest flash ocx (if found)
4) remove lock of flash CLSID by "kill bit"
FYI : this script is locked for XP use only.
You want to check code before launching ?
No problem, just unzip the .exe and open vbs file with
notepad
Ini file is for registry rights change.
Hope this helps
Cheers

Workaround: Disable Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration in Windows Server 2008
Unlike with previous versions of Windows Server in which you could disable Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration by removing the component in Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components
the Windows Server 2008 implementation of Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration is configured through Server Manager.
Select the root of the Service Manager navigation pane, and under the Server Summary click Configure IE ESC, which is part of the Security Information section.
A dialog box appears, letting Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration be enabled/disable separately for normal users and administrators.

How to embed Windows video files in iweb
I uploaded several videos to a web site using iweb for a fortune 500 company only to find out the wmv videos I put in didn't load because iweb uses a quicktime container for all videos dropped on the page. After spending a lot of time on this site (how to link video files, embeding google/youtube video) I finally came across another site that was very help. If you interested here it is:
Home page: http://www.mediacollege.com/
Embedded wmv files: http://www.mediacollege.com/video/format/windows-media/streaming/
Just drop in the html code and change the file names and location.
I'm new to mac and this discussion board has been very helpful. I hope Apple includes a way to embed windows file. There are too many PCs out there to ignore.
Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)
Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)
Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)I choose to ignore Windows use until I need to fire up my PC. I don't create files for WMP format, either.
You are leaving out some import "steps" when you say "drop in the html code" because this requires post-publishing edits with a plain text editor.
And the code shown is now out of date as Microsoft "change the rules" (again) for ActiveX content.
This page code would generate an ActiveX alert dialog asking the viewer what to do. Many viewers just click "No" and move on. -
Stuck at Logging in to MobileMe window
I made my website in iWeb and alerted my domain subscriber to make web.me my alias. Now I'm trying to publish to MobileMe. I get the "Logging in to MobileMe" window, which looks like it's trying to connect, but it never connects... or stops until I finally give up and quit the programs. Suggestions?
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You might try the solution in the following. Even though it's for a different problem it will clean out the login info so you can enter it anew:
"Source: http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/mobileme/index.html#d30jul2008

After waiting a day for the rolling restore to happen, I called AppleCare because Apple had sent an email saying my service was back, and it wasn't. I still could send and not receive using Mail.
Here is what fixed it. Go to MobileMe (terrible name) in System Preferences, log out. Then enter a garbage name and password and try to log in. This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences. Then enter your real UserName and PassWord. For me this was lights on.
I am left wondering how long ago I could have had email had I known this preference reset scheme."

Embed QT in IE - problems with plugin redirect
Hi: I'm using this code in an html document and I thought that this would redirect to the QT download page. It works ok in FireFox but not in IE. If QT is not installed, then the the movie placeholder just displays as a broken image.
What do I need to add to correct this? I did not find anything online here to help...
