Website on DVD?

can i put a website (linked files, etc al) on a DVD for viewing and interaction (links)? can it have an app like a browser... or how exactly does that work? if i can are there some instructions somewhere?
no movie(s) just a complete site.
thanks!

If HD = high definition, then there's no reasonable option right now to create an HD DVD, and there are very few HD players (and because of the format war, perhaps only half of them would play your disc). Perhaps an upconverting DVD player could be helpful, but I've not seen this work.
You can create text documents with larger fonts (esp blocky, san serif fonts like Helvetica) that are readable on TV, but it doesn't give you much space before you need to click to the next page (think PowerPoint-style, manually-controled iDVD slideshow), or scroll down (think iMovie's scrolling title blocks). TV has 72 dpi resolution, which is low compared to a computer monitor.
You might try iMovie's title options to get a sense of how much will fill a screen. Or if you want more control over the process, use Photoshop Elements (or similar) to make a white image that's 640x480 pixels, then experiment with different fonts and sizes to find something that's acceptable (import to iMovie; import to iDVD; burn slowly to disc).

  • Linking to web & DVD Rom  through separate menus

I am working on a project and want to link to both website and DVD rom content through using separate menus and timeout functions. I have checked off both DVD@access and set my DVD Rom content but cannot access. Do I need a script and if so what are the commands?
    Thanks
    Jeff

The way it works is that as soon as you open the sub menu it should try to launch the @ccess link, rather than waiting to time out. You could always add a third menu in there, time-out the submenu and go to the third (which will, of course, look identical) so that the link then launches right away. Time that third menu out after 1 second and return back to the submenu.
You really need to get the location of the ROM content correct in the property inspector. It isn't clear where to point things, certainly. What have you got set up?
The DVD@ccess link must be in the right format, and the file you point at must have the three letter extension. I'm pretty sure I set up a smaple project you can download for all this - have a look here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/halgernon/FileSharing21.html
There's a whole bunch of stuff in a folder called 'ACCESS_EXAMPLE', and hopefully some of it will do the job for you There is a 'read me' which should explain how to format the link URL and ROM folder locations, etc.

  • Making a DVD@ccess link to a Button on a DVD Menu

Is it possible for me to have a button link to a website using DVD@ccess?
In other words, I have a menu with 3 buttons on it. 2 of those buttons will link to chapters on the track. The third button I would like to be able to press and it will go to a webpage.
Can this be done and if so, can you explain how?
    Thanks in advance

Not possible with any degree of reliabilty. Read this thread:

  • Can't write dvd

I am trying to write a DVD-R. Seems to me that's the kind of blank I've always used, but I'm getting this error:
Burning disc failed because communication to the disc drive failed. (Error code 0x80020022)
These are 4.7 GB 8X discs from OfficeMax.
I'm not having problems with CD-Rs so what gives?

Retail store dvds are often of very poor quality. Try burning at a slower speed and see if that helps. See this website on DVD media:
    http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia
And get media that is stored in jewelcases, and do not label or write anything on the label side.

  • How Do I Correct FF GUI From Not Opening After Computer Restart

Every time I restart my Win8 and then FF, the FF GUI does not open (i.e. the browser window does not appear) although Task M shows FF as running. Only work around so far is to re-install FF (obviously using another browser to access the download install site). I tried disabling all add-ins and this had no affect. Even if I exit FF before restarting the computer, the same issue occurs. If I exit FF but do not restart the computer, FF will re-start normally, meaning the browser window appears.
This started occurring a couple of weeks ago. At that time I did a System Restore back to a point before it started happening and that did not correct the issue.
I also uninstalled FF keeping my settings but the issue remained when I re-installed FF. I even went to the extreme of uninstalling and not keeping my settings and then reinstalling and adding my add-ins and setting my options (a couple hours of work) and the issue still remained.
Once it is open I see no problems with it or any add-ins.

    Hi,
From your issue description I understand that, you are unable to open any applications and the computer freezes.
I can imagine the inconvenience you have experienced. Don’t worry; we will certainly help you.
I would appreciate if you could answer the following question:

  • Exception from HRESULT: 0x80072EFE while obtaining developer license on win 8.1 Pro and Enterprise edition

     Hi,
I need developer license but I get below error "
"We couldn't get your developer license for windows8.1
          : Exception from HRESULT: 0x80072EFE"
Another issue I am having is I can't open store app - it gives message "Your PC isn't connected to the Internet. To use the store, connect to the Internet and then try again"
My PC is connected to the Internet and I can open other store apps
    I have tried below workaround
    - Click on Try again in the message
-Check if system date and time is correct.
Could you assist me. Thank you.

From Windows 8 refresh screen: "Apps from Windows Store will be kept. Apps you installed from discs or websites will be removed." and documentation says that "The apps that came with your PC or you installed from Windows  Store will be reinstalled, but any apps you installed from other websites and DVDs will be removed.  You'll find a list of  the removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC." (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc)
Since you installed Windows 8, it looks now as a fresh Windows 8 installation. Well... It removed all the apps installed, of course. Seems you got rid of some crapware.
But you will have to reinstall drivers (if required, shouldn't be too many: Synaptics UltraNav, Hotkey/Onscreen, Active Protection System, Realtek PCIE Card Reader... all the others should be detected already automatically by now). And of course you will have to reinstall all your software.
I'm afraid there is not much more help to be given. It worked as it was intended to.
If I helped you, please give me some kudos! ^^

  • ICloud made a mess of my Outlook.  How do I put it back?

I went through over 3000 contacts in Outlook and carefully deleted duplicates and old contacts and made corrections.  Then I checked the box in the iCloud Control Panel for "Contacts with Outlook."  After it uploaded all my contacts, I opened the new folder in Outlook named "Contacts in iCloud."  It was a total mess.  Each contact was listed 3 or 4 times, in different versions, and it was impossible to see which one was the correct one without opening each one and carefully comparing.  It must have uploaded contacts from my deleted and other contacts folders.  The contacts in iCloud were the same way.  In Outlook, my original Contacts folder is empty.  Is there any way to put this back the way it was?  I didn't back up contacts after I did all the editing immediatly before uploading to iCloud.  How do I reverse all these changes to my Outlook folders?  Thanks.

    Hi,
Did you check the following Warning before perform a Refresh ?

  • Mac alternatives for affordable 5.1 AC3 encoding?

A musician, I was looking into DVDSP 4 so I could get into adding 5.1 audio created in Cubase SX to video. I have FCPE, which has more than plenty of video production features for me, so obviously I don't want to spend $1300 just for 5.1 AC3 encoding.
Is there an alternative for 5.1 dolby encoding for mac users under the $500 mark? Do I need to go over to the dark side for this? (I've seen a couple apps for Windows).

    Hi again-
Okay, about DVD-A: you asked about playback options, specifically the cable issue (six analog or one optical specifically.) It depends...how's that for an answer! Actually, it depends on your player and preamp/receiver. I take it since you knew enough to ask the question in the first place, you're familiar with the copy protection involved with both DVD-Audio and SACD for that matter. They were originally not allowed to be sent digitally from the player to the preamp. I believe it's the way the labels wanted to try to put the copy genie back in the bottle that they lost from CDs. Anyways, unless you've got something like D-Link from Denon (for only their DVD and receiver) or even some FireWire units that talk the same encryption on both ends for digital it won't work. Me, I have to rely on the six audio RCA cables to get the signal from my Denon DVD player to the Outlaw Audio preamp. The normal digital cable I've got connected will not pass the DVD-Audio or SACD stream along from the player. Another case of me, the end user, being treated as guilty until proven innocent. But that's another story.
DTS CDs: I've found that the medium I use, either DVD or redbook CD, is rather irrelevant when it comes to providing a DTS stream to my preamp- it likes both equally well, and recognizes them identically as DTS. The most important thing is the digital steam that's DTS encoded- once it leaves the player, it looks the same going across the wire. At least that's been my experience. That's why DTS originally could release DTS CDs- as long as their was a digital connection to a preamp that can decode DTS, a normal CD player works fine. In fact, I can also use the six channel input to play it back as my DVD player decodes the DTS stream internally and often do. My 14 year old CD player won't decode DTS, but with the digital out it can only pass the stream along to an outboard decoder.
As an aside, I can expand on this a bit. To augment my modest home studio monitors (two Event 20/20's), I bought an okay 5.1 speaker setup, the Alesis ProActive one that is more or less a rebranded Logitech but with six analog 5.1 inputs (important to me for mixing from my MOTU 828) and detachable speaker wire because I'm a prude that way. Anyway, out of the box and connected via one optical cable from my G5, I could get it to play anything except my DTS encoded tracks. Actually it played them- think white noise. Not good. I did some Googles and found out that the volume coming from the Mac had to be pretty much pegged to the max for the DTS decoder in the ProActive brain to recognize the digital stream. Once I did that, I got the DTS 5.1 soundtrack just fine.
Too bad about IM not being prompt. Like I said, I like the product and I've had no issues and I've needed no support as the product is self-documenting. It does one thing and does it well for me. Hopefully someone from their sales team will find this thread and convince the company to arrange at least a basic sales page with the website. As I said earlier, I did many Googles over the course of maybe a month and never found the right query to hit IM's page, and it was DTS that finally pointed me to their website.
DVD Studio Pro is worth it, if only to allow you to share your recordings to create DD mixes with pretty menus and the such. If IM ever gets off their butt it's worth at least a demo since you could encode and burn both DD and DTS tracks to the same DVD and see what you'd like better.
DVD-Audio is (was?) a good format (pet peeve- let me leave the TV off please- I hate having to navigate a menu to start track 1!!!) Of course there's enough confusion in the home theater world now that explaining to someone that you'll need six more cables isn't easy. Chicken and egg too- the software titles never panned out for the masses. And don't get me going with Sony screwing up yet again by not releasing stuff like the entire Pink Floyd catalog in SACD at launch of that format. I've heard enough 5.1 mixes of both classic and new recordings to know that I'm completely sold on the notion of surround music. Unless you like classical music, the choices are a bit thin of course. I do agree with you- hopefully the HD versions of DD and DTS will give the industry a kick in the backside to release more multichannel music.
Hmmm...encoding DTS via Virtual PC, eh? Shouldn't be too bad. Then again, if enough people from Apple who have the power to do something realizes that you, me, and at least a few others are interested but have to resort to a Windows solution for a multi-media codec, maybe they'll release such a beast. Then again, I'm one of the many waiting for a decent alternative to Quicken since Intuit screwed up the initial OS X version and never quite fixed it...
    Cheers!

  • Touchpad freezes windows 8

    Hi
I have an Hp envy m4 with windows 8 preinstalled.
When I try to use the multiouch gestures, the touchpad freezes and I can't move the mouse during a few seconds.
I've tried everything, reinstalling drivers, updating them, etc, etc.
Nothing seems to fix my problem and is not just my laptop, I had to replace my previous one with the one I am currently using due to the same problem.
Also windows says my antivirus is not turned on, i've tried two different AV's and it keeps showing the same problem on action center.
It look like windows 8 is not working properly.
Don't know if I'm gonna have to refresh the pc, I really hope I don't need to.
    PLEASE HELP!

    Hello, camilotm.
I see that you're having an issue with the touchpad. This seems to be a software issue that you're having.
Knowing you've already adjusted some of the settings and updated the drivers. I would suggest trying to refresh the notebook.
    Warning:
The apps that came with your PC or you installed from Windows Store will be reinstalled, but any apps you installed from other websites and DVDs will be removed. Windows puts a list of the removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.
If that doesn't work I would suggest doing a system restore back to a previous time when the touchpad was working.
Here is a document which will show you how to perform both steps.
If you have any more questions let me know.
    THX

  • Ability to control the data rate of AC3 audio

I'd like to be able to have more control over the way Encore transcodes audio from WAV files. When working with large projects where every last byte counts, it would be very helpful to save some space by encoding the AC3 at a lower rate.

Bryan, it's a perfectly reasonable question if you didn't know that!
The specs issue can be extremely confusing, and I guess this is what happens when things are designed by committee.
No need to feel dumb at all, as when I first started out I didn't know this either, and that is actually what started the whole thing off for me - I decided I needed to know more about the specs.
There is a great website called DVD Replica, where you can get for a very small amount of cash a document called the "Unofficial DVD-Video Specifications". It's unofficial as it does not have the DVD Forum stamp on it, and didn't cost $10,000 to buy it.
    See http://www.dvd-replica.com/DVD/index.php

  • Setting a time based access control

My teenage kids stay up too late, connected to our Tima Machine. I would like to set a timer so that the link is switched off at a certain hour. Can anyone please help me set that?

Are they logging on using a Mac?
If so, can't you just set up a new user account for them (not the same one that you, the administrator, uses and NOT an account with administrator rights) and then enable the parental controls and limit the logon time to the Mac?
system preferences > users and groups
click the padlock to make changes (assuming you have an administrator password for the main account - if not, set one)
    enter your administrator password
create your user - make sure the account you create is NOT an administrator account (make sure the "allow user to administer this computer" option is not checked)
make sure the "enable parental controls" option is ticked
    click "open parental controls"
click "time limits" on the top
do what you want to do (it is extremely flexible!)
click the lock to prevent further changes
    That's it.
You can also use the tabs on the top to limit access to apps, websites, messaging, DVD burning etc etc. for whatever person is logged on as that user.
If they want to see how much time they have remaining, they can just click the menu bar clock (where the time is displayed) and a menu and readout will appear which says e.g. "Parental Controls: Time Remaining 1:05" or whatever is left.
If you set logon limits between, say 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM on weeknights, and they try and logon outside those parameters, a little message box will pop up which can be used to grant extra time - but it will require the administrator's password to authorise the extension.
As it gets to 9:00 PM they'll get a message telling them their time is almost up - with an option to grant more time.  Again, the administrator's password is required to authorise the extension.
Dealing with the tantrum is your problem ;-)
Works with Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.2
Note - that will limit the computer use altogether for that user account so if that user is connected via a Mac to Time Machine it'll work.
If they are not logging on through a Mac (e.g. they are using an iPad to connect to Time Machine) then I'm not sure - sorry.
I'm also not sure if you can limit Time Machine to times of the day - I think you can only do it by limiting the individual users - but would love to be proved wrong!
    Good luck!
    Hope that helps.

  • Windows Refresh from 8.1 to 8. Will it affect my Premiere Pro 7 CC projects?

    Hey,
I'm looking to refresh my HP Pavilion laptop. It came with Windows 8 installed and I upgraded to 8.1 since I purchased it. I've got issues with it waking from sleep mode and have read that a refresh may fix that problem.
My question is - will refreshing Windows from 8.1 back to Windows 8 affect my Abobe Premiere Pro projects, sequences and timelines?
The Microsoft page offers this advice "If your PC isn’t performing as well as it once did, and you don’t know why, you can refresh your PC without deleting any of your personal files or changing your settings."
    BUT it also says this
    Warning
Applications you’ve installed from websites and DVDs will be removed. Applications that came with your PC and apps you've installed from the Windows Store will be reinstalled. Windows puts a list of removed applications on your desktop after refreshing your PC.
Will Premiere Pro 7 CC be affected?
    Thanks for any advice!

I checked and it seems my Windows partition is clean.
I guess I just needed the clarification whether me double clicking on the .lnk file is a problem, if it was considered "opened" by my Mac, or it just didn't open, and the fact that I actually opened a html file while my pendrive was affected. But since it's just a Windows issue, I guess I'm good to go, eh?

  • Is there going to be a replacement for iWeb?

Now that iCloud is in and iWeb will soon be out, does Apple plan on replacing it with some other web building app?

No.  All indications are that Apple is going to cloud sharing and abondaning the website and DVD methods of sharing. But there is Life After MobileMe.  The iWeb replacement that I decided to go with is Flux.

  • I am going to place a 30 minutes dvd film on a website for one of my clients. Before converting tje old vhs-film to dvd I must know what format will suit the needs best. HTTP, Flash, Quicktime or something else?

I am going to place a 30 minutes dvd film on a website for one of my clients. The film was shot 15 years ago and is in vhs-format. Before I will have the film converted into a dvd-format I want to know what format will suit my needs best. HTTP, Flash, Quicktime or something else? I will make it easy for myself placering the dvd film on the site and for the vistors who wish to look att the film.

The DVD format (MPEG-2) isn't appropriate for Web use.
Use QuickTime and H.264 video codec with AAC audio. Size the file at 320X240 (best fit for your old file).
