I have been a GTE/Verizon customer for 16 years, and now I'm seriously considering changing to another carrier. The reason is the atricious performance of the Verizon Wireless website. As a developer of highly scalable web applications, I am appalled that Verizon continues to invest in the appearance nd window dressing of the site, but has shown no signs of addressing the fundamental poor performance.
Today, I tried twice to order something from the site. Both times, the "confirm order" page timed out after several minutes, and so my order was lost. Does Verizon not care about sales? Do they not understand the seriousness of the problem? If Verizon sales and technical competence are this bad, why should I trust them to provide quaiity service for my mobile devices?
Over the years, I have complained about this problem a couple of times, and I'm sure other have, as well. It seems that nobody is home, or paying attention. Building a commerce site of this complexity is not rocket science. If it is being done by an in-house development team, I suggest that Verizon fire the whole lot and start over. If it is being developed and maintained by some consulting firm, I suggest suing them for nonperformance and starting over. This is simply unacceptable.

Slow Downloads / website performance

I wonder if anyone has noticed performance issues with the download of content. In iTunes, when I click on the iTunes store, it takes over 30 seconds to load. Sometimes more. Podcasts that normally take minutes are taking hours. I have a video podcast that's about 111MB and it's been trying to download since yesterday. I currently have 39 podcast subscriptions. When I click refresh to update them, most quit with an error after more than 3 minutes.
Even the Apple website is running slowly for me. On the order of minutes to load a page.
I'm on a cable modem and I don't have performance issues with other websites like Google or CNN. I have two other computers beside me and they're not having any connectivity issues. One of them is running iTunes and it's having similar difficulty reaching the store.
I'd appreciate any thoughts.

True, and I kinda forgot about that little detail. Let me ask you this. I have 30 or 40 podcasts that I subscribe to. Even for podcasts where there is no new content to download, the time from click to complete is inordinately long. A refresh of my entire podcast library can take upwards of 5 minutes or more, which is uncharacteristically long for me.
I can understand that the content is hosted by the podcast owner, but if the check itself (independent of any download of content) is extremely slow, relative to past performance, would you still think this is the podcast owner's issue, or is it the apple server that maintains the links, especially considering that every podcast is similarly slow these past two days. (content as diverse as MacBreak; ABC World News; Geekbrief; and Happy Tree Friends)

Issue with share point 2007 website performance

Hi,
we have a sharepoint 2007 farm implemented in our organization. We have 2 web servers running over NLB, 1 application server and 2 SQL 2005 database servers in clustered mode. We are facing a strange issue from the past one week with the performance of the
website deployed from sharepoint. Iam mentioning it as starange because there was no change in any kind of configuration from the server lervel or from the application or databasde level. the performance of the server also seems perfectly alright the only
error i keep getting is event id 5010 "the application pool of sharepoint website has failed to respond to a ping" and then the application pool hangs and my website goes down. This issue is repeated atleast twice in an hour.
I would be very thankful if any one can please suggest me what has to be done in order to mitigate this issue.

SCH website performance

We have less than 10 devices on SCH. Running any report takes minutes, not seconds. Cisco, can you please do something to improve this? The service loses its value when the tools aren't speedy enough to use productively. I've also noted extreme delays in email alerts vs. trigger times, and performance issues with viewing device-specific details (running config, etc).

Engineering has measured the performance of all reports available under your user profile and was unable to find an issue - all reports were generated in less than 10 seconds during their testing. It's possible you could have been running the reports during a maintenance window on our side or could potentially have been experiencing a network issue on your side. In either case, I would encourage you to open a support case if the issue persists. The performance you are reporting is not normal and we'd like to help you resolve the issue.

Website Performance, IWeb velocity

Hello,
i published a Website with IWeb and the performance is state of the art, when using my Mac and may DSL Internet connection. On some computers the perfomance is terrible slow. It takes a lot of time when pages are building up and you can see the page being set together of the particular details (pictures, textboxes etc.).
In most ofe the cases it was a help to change from the terrible MSIE to Firefox or something else. But are there other tools or tricks to eccelerate the website? I am allready using Webcrusher, what safes up to 20% of data volume.
Did a make a basic mistake when designing the page layout?
The content is moderate compaired with other pages and i didnt use to much pictures and no big sized files like sound or clips.
Can anybody help?

WSM will add the website folder on the iDisk from the "Configure" menu. It then optimizes the files and puts them in the WSM output folder on your hard drive. Probably not the answer you want to hear!
For me to try putting the output folder on my iDisk would cause me big problems but I don't see why it couldn't be done.
WSM will, of course, optimize and upload back to your iDisk, from the output folder, in one pass.

Client does not have permission to send as this sender

We have a CRM web application hosted on a server. When a user launches the site, the site provides facility to the customer to send the query into the system using the email. The website provides the filed for the customer to enter customer’s email ID. The
customer email address is used by the system to send the response back.
We are doing a new implementation for SMTP authentication for the emails send into the contact center using a public website. The flow of the system to use the SMTP authentication is:
Customer launches the website.
Customer chooses to send the his/her query using the email from the website.
Website asks for the customer’s address, so that the query can be
answered back to the provided email address say [email protected] .
We have an account configured on the MS-Exchange 2010 say [email protected]
So before sending the email the website system performs the SMTP Authentication using the credentials of [email protected]
Now the system creates the email MIME using the email address provided by the customer on the website i.e. say [email protected].
After successful SMTP authentication for the address [email protected] system starts sending the email.
Here we are facing the issue:
While sending the email if the customer’s address is also configured on the same exchange used by the system i.e. exchange on [email protected] is configured
then website system is able to relay or send the email.
If the customer’s address is not configured on the same exchange used by the system where [email protected] is configured then the system is not able to send the email it results into the error of: “Client
does not have permission to send as this sender [email protected].
In short if the website performs the SMTP authentication then it requires the FROM address configured on the same exchange used for the smtp authentication in the email MIME from address.
Configuration tries:
As suggested on various forums and at Microsoft tech group we tried following things but no success:
Checked the checkbox “Authenticated Users” selected “Accept any Sender”.
Created a new relay and given the IP of the machine hosting the website or trying to send the email
Run the command from the EMC “Exchange management console”
Add-AdPermission -Identity "Default Receive Connector" -User "NT AUTHORITY\Authenticated Users" -ExtendedRights ms-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Any-Sender.

You can create a new connector to which everything is permitted - eg New-ReceiveConnector -Name "Anonymous Relay" -Usage Custom -PermissionGroups AnonymousUsers -Bindings 10.2.3.4:25 -RemoteIpRanges 192.168.5.77

No offense,but i would strongly suggest you(and everybody else) to please search SDN before posting the questions,both the questions you have asked have been discussed on SDN millions of times and its not worth asking them again.
by posting same questions again and again we are unnecessarily overloading SDN server(s) due to which the website performance will/may downgrade resulting in more frequent downtime which is good for nobody .
if there something we can't find on SDN,then we should definitely post it over here.
Also i would request others experts to please ask the poster to search SDN first instead of replying them with links and responses.

Best practice for java script placement on a BC page?

Hi guys just a general ask about where the best place for java script is on a BC page.
I just watched the this very good video on optimization http://bcgurus.com/tutorials/how-to-do-website-performance-optimization and in it it says how you should try and load the scripts at the bottom of the page so that it loads quicker.
now I want to do this but with it being a BC site i dont know if certain scripts have to be in the head of the doc. For instance the validate script I have? Does anyone know what I can and cant move from the head?
I was going to do what kiyuco like to practice and add all my scripts to a content holder and then add that to my pages/templates. Will BC like me adding this to the bottom of the page and not the head?

What is Develop that suddenly appears in menu after 3.1 update?

After an automatic upgrade through Software Update, Adobe Reader doesn't work right. According to Adobe, it is current. Something called Develop appeared in the menu and something called DeBug disappeared. I can find nothing to explain these happenings. No directions as to their use. Could someone please explain? There always seems to be errors in opening web pages although most of the time the pages do load. I use Disk Utility religiously. I suddenly had Safari tell me that a security check was going to be needed. Never happened before so I said okay but then a window said I had to download a program and the certificate was expired. I refused permission to allow. It quit. I have never had a problem with 10.+ until now. I spent three hours going through forum messages and could not find anything about Develop or DeBug. Help, please.

Develop replaced the Debug menu that was always there in Safari 3.0.4 but had to be activated from Terminal or via a third party application. Now it's easier.
From Safari's Help menu:
The Develop menu provides tools for web developers creating websites for Safari and Mac OS X.
NOTE: If the Develop menu does not appear in the menu bar, open Safari preferences, click the Advanced tab, and select “Show Develop menu in menu bar.”

EA6500 - Defective?

I purchased the EA6500 for speed, multiprotocol support and vendor reputation.
It took three attempts to get the router (partially) configured. Whenever I attempted to make changes to the router via the Smartwifi, popups were saying "router not found." This was while I was connected via cable, so I thought I'd try it w/o a cable. Same result and website performance for horrific.
When attempted to connect a USB drive to the router, it was never recognized in the router.
After an hour of flumbling, I plugged back in my Apple Airport Extreme Base Station.
Maybe time to return to store and consider the ASUS.
Help?

The issue might have something to do with the firmware. Have you tried an auto update? How about getting the latest firmware from the website and doing a manual upgrade? Check out these links and the EA6500 Support Page for the latest firmware version.

100% CPU needed

My machine is a 1.8 GHz P4, running Windows 2K and Mozilla
Firefox 3.0.3. I recently installed the latest Flash player for
Mozilla. I am getting really crappy performance. For example,
playing this MSNBC video clip:

takes 100% of the CPU. This is playing it after the download
has completed. I can't play it in streaming mode because whenever
the end of the buffer is reached the playback stops while more
bytes are downloaded.
Surely a simple video clip shouldn't need 100% of a P4?!

Even tho the Adobe minimum recommended specs are 1Ghz
processor or faster, 1.8 is considered
rather slow especially when comes to full screen websites and
video. I complain about some
websites performance running 3.4ghz and 4gb rams, so imagine
your CPU is really getting dated
if you want to enjoy the latest websites and all the features
it comes with. There really isn't
any software solution for you, only hard ware upgrade will
improve the performance.

RPC over HTTP trouble Exchange 2013/2007 coexistence, 2013 RPCProxy cannot ping GC.

I currently have an Exchange 2013/2007 coexistence scenario which gives me trouble with the RPC over HTTP part with users with a 2007 mailbox. the MS RCA website performs 2 tests with the MAPI address book endpoints, once against a 2007 mailbox server and
once a against a GC/DC, the last one fails. The logs are from our test domain, but the exact same happens in the production domain. running CU8 (recently upgraded, but problem was exactly the same with CU7)

i look at the 'ValidPorts' and ValidPorts_Autoconfig_Exchange reg keys and filled them with the same i have on the 2007cas servers (all ex servers, all dc/gc's, all of them with netbios & fqdn ports 6001,6002 & 6004..) but also no success.
im out of ideas by now..

content of these two folders, i.e. “V15\ClientAccess\Owa\prem\15.0.995.31” and “V15\ClientAccess\Owa\prem\15.0.995.29” should be identical, now if for any reason, they are not then it can break the OWA experience like described above. Take these steps if you
