To download/install an app directly to the iPod you need available storage equal to about three times the file download size. Syncing the app to the iPod requires a lot less. Thus you either have to free up more storage or sync the app from your computer.

    Hey gwscrt,
Since iTunes directed to you to restore your iPod, I'd check out the following article that goes over the steps to do so:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1339
I would read the document in full, but here are the applicable steps for you:
    How to restore iPod
Verify that you have an active Internet connection, because you may need to download new versions of the iTunes and iPod Software.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes if necessary.
Open iTunes. Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that came with your iPod.
After a few moments, your iPod will appear in the Source panel in iTunes.
Select your iPod in the Source panel. You will see information about your iPod appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    Click Restore.
If you are using a Mac, you will be asked to enter an administrator’s name and password.
A progress bar will appear on the computer screen, indicating that stage one of the restore process has begun. When this stage is done, iTunes will present one of two messages with instructions specific to the iPod model you are restoring.
Disconnect iPod and connect it to iPod Power Adapter (typically applies to older iPod models).
Leave iPod connected to computer to complete restore (typically applies newer iPod models).
During stage two of the restore process, the iPod displays an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remain connected to the computer or iPod power adapter during this stage.
Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see, because the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
After stage two of the restore process is complete, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear. It will ask you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences, as it did when you connected your iPod for the first time.
    Have a good one,
    David

  • I cannot download iTunes. It gets completely loaded and then says that itunes has a virus and was deleted. I uninstalled itunes and it still will not download it. Any suggestions??

I recently had a virus on my computer and took it into the shop to have it repaired. Ever since, I have not been able to open iTunes. So I uninstalled iTunes thinking that I could reinstall it and it would work. How ever wrong I was! It will download completely, but then it says that itunes had a virus and was deleted. I don't get how it could have a virus if its not on my computer??? I'm extremely frustrated!!!!!! Please Help!

iTunes, if downloaded from Apple, has no virus.
Turn off the security software on the computer temporarily.  Ultimately the security software needs to be updated or replaced with a software package that works properly.

  • Upgraded to 11.1.4.62.  Now iTunes is saying "An iPod has been detected, but could not be identified properly.  Disconnect then reconnect ..."  I removed iTunes and reinstalled.  I stopped and started the service.  I reset the iPod.  When I put it in disk

I upgraded to 11.1.14.62 this morning.  Not iTunes is saying "An iPod had been detected but could not be identified properly".  I unlugged/replugged in.  I reset the iPod, I removed iTunes and reinstalled.  I'ver tried three different cables.
When I put the iPod in disk mode it shows up briefly as a disk then goes away.
    Any ideas?

Hi there  - I've spoken with Apple and here is their response (worked for me). You need to uninstall not only iTunes, but also (in this order):
    1) iTunes
    2) Apple Software Update
    3) Apple Mobile Device Support
    4) Bonjour
    5) Apple Application Support
    Then you restart your computer.
Then you install the latest version of iTunes (which will reinstall all those things you uninstalled).
Then you restart your computer again.
Mine is working perfectly again now.
I hope it works for you,
    Carmen.

  • PC says my iPod has malfunctioned.

Whenever I plug my 2nd gen. iPod nano (2GB,silver) into my dell pc, it says: "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." But whenever I plug it into my sister's PC, Windows and iTunes recognize it just fine. I even restored my iPod on her PC, then plugged it back into my PC, and it STILL gave me that stupid message! I even tried using different USB ports and cables, and I STILL get that message. Is there something wrong with my PC, cuz I don't think my iPod is the problem? What do I do???

If you just did an iTune upgrade, the latest version is screwing up everyone's IPod. See if you can sync to an older version of iTune. I upgraded on my work computer and it screwed up my IPod. I reset the IPod (losing all my music) and synced it on my home computer that has an older version of ITunes and now it works. I'm definitely turning off automatic iTunes upgrade until I hear that Apple has fixed this latest version.

  • ITunes says my iPod has no songs on it

One day, I was playing Sims Bowling on my iPod, and I decided to turn some music on. So I went back to my Music, and selected Artists. To my horror, all my 1000+ songs, were gone. So I plug my iPod back into my computer to use iTunes with it. I had very little hope this would work, because I "manually manage" my songs, rather than syncing. But suprisingly, iTunes showed all my songs were on my iPod, perfectly safe and stored.
Alright, so problem solved. I look at my iPod's "Music" tab prefrence, just to check if everything stayed the same. Looks like iTunes un-checked the "Display Album Artwork" checkbox. Ugh, why does it do this to me?
I re-check the box and hit "Apply". Suddenly, on the top of the iTunes window, it says "Deleting Album Artwork". WHAT? NO! I quickly hit the small circular "x" button. Oh phew, everything's fine.
So I try once again. I un-check the box and hit apply. Then I re-check it again. And this time, it reads "Optimizing Artwork". OKAY, finally. Good job iTunes. Good job Steve Jobs. Good Job Macintosh.
Thank you for making such great software, I would like to---WAIT what!! An error?!?!?!?????!!!! You gotta be kidding me! Some file is lost? Huh?
WHAT THE HECK! MY SONGS ALL HAVE "!" MARKS NEXT TO THEM! MY SONGS ARE GONE!
But wait a second! I unplug my iPod, and check my music. It's still there! But why doesn't iTunes say it is?
I can't do anything with my songs because of this. DO NOT TELL ME TO DO THE "5 R's". I want a good solid answer to this problem. I'm currently updating iTunes with the new version. I'm pretty sure it won't fix the problem.
    Can anyone help?

    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

  • My library says my Ipod has been synced with another library, but it hasn't.

My Itunes library is saying that my Ipod isn't synced with that library and I have to erase and sync it. I haven't synced my Ipod to another library. I already erased and synced it again once, and now it's doing the same thing (and it deleted all the playlists I created on my library, but they're still on my Ipod). I don't want to have to erase and sync again, and lose my playlists. Why is it doing that?
