Website Software?

Okay. I know this question is not an FCP question, but FCP and Logic is pretty much ALL I've used the past few years leading up to the completion of a feature film of mine, and I haven't used anything else. Now that I have to deal with the prospects of potentially getting a website up and running for my film, I'm faced with yet another uncharted realm of territory.
I don't know the first thing about making a website for my film. I'm guessing I need to get a decent website-making program and just . . . learn it/figure it out. I don't know any though, so that's why I'm here. Perhaps someone can point me in the proper direction or forum, etc so that I can know WHAT softwared to get.
What is the "best" website-making software out there? Or, perhaps I should ask not what's the best (as it might cost MUCH more than I can afford), but, what is the best in terms of most reliable, effective, yet cost conscious. ?
I did a google search and found one called Sandvox, and another called RapidWeaver, but I don't know one from a hole in the wall . . . so I'm here asking for help.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, everyone, in advance for the help.
Javier Calderon

Ha! Now that's a good point. lol . . .
This is the thing, however. I know SO little about not only website-making, but how much the software itself costs, that - although I did spend all that money on FCP, Logic, and whatever else I have - I'm not going to assume that there's not some really good website-making software out there that would work perfect for me, but that costs like 10K. I mean I don't know.
How much do these things tend to cost? Is Sandvox's $80 tag for the premium version about indicative of how much these applications tend to cost?
Also, I'll look into Dreamweaver and the Flash suggestion you gave.
Thank you much.

  • Website software for MAC and PC?

HI all, I am about to build my first website. Can anyone tell me if there is some software which i can use on my MAC to build and upload a website, but which can be viewed and edited by another person on a PC. I was hoping to use Freeway express to build a website but i need to be able to edit it from a standard PC. Any advice would be great.

Yes, the latest version of Freeway produces much more compliant code than earlier versions did. If you subscribe to Freewaytalk, the Freeway mailing list, there has been talk there in the past few days of a small app that can be used to make it easier for clients to edit Freeway sites once they are up and running. I haven't saved the digests so can't give you more info, but possibly they are being archived on the softpress website again.
EDIT However, if you want to build a commercial site where universal access (for readers for the blind and so on) and total code compliance are critical, you will need something like Dreamweaver and a lot of hand coding. It depends on what you want to do.

  • Anyone using Mr Site Pro website software on their iMac, if so how di insert the copyright symbol into my home page?

I am trying to insert the copyright symbol into the home page of my website, I am using Mr Site Pro software, on windows it is 0169 but this does'nt work on the imac, can anyone help?

Or you can try option (alt or ⌥) + G to type ©.
    For future reference, enable the keyboard viewer;
System Preferences > Language and Text > Input Sources tab. Top of the left column, tick (check) "Keyboard and Character Viewer", Bottom of window next to search field, tick "Show input menu in menu bar"
System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard tab; tick "show keyboard and character viewers in menu bar"
All the standard diacritical marks and common symbols can be accessed directly from the standard keyboard. ü is produced by pressing alt (option) + U, release them and type U. Similarly é is alt+e, followed by e.
If you open Keyboard Viewer and press the alt (option) key, the location of the marks will be revealed. Note that five of them are highlighted in orange; these are the ones which can be used with multiple  letters (acute, umlaut, gràve, circumflex and tilde)
    Shift+Alt will show more.
These are the results of holding down option and shift+option for a standard UK keyboard (US is similar, but a few keystrokes are reversed)

  • Cisco website software download disappeared

Does anyone know if there is a known problem with the Cisco software download website? I was looking to download the NBAR protocol pack for the WiSM2 but it's no longer listed as an option (WiSM is there but obviously of no use to me). I can get it for my 5508 controllers but not the WiSM2...
I assume that I am searching correctly as I downloaded the 7.6.120.0 software only last week.

It's just not showing up under the WISM2 page. If you go under the 5508 downloads page the latest NBAR2 Protocol Pack is listed there:
         "NBAR2 Advanced Protocol Pack 6.4.0 for AireOS 7.6: NBAR2 Engine 13  (pp-AIR-7.6-13-6.4.0.pack)"
If you click on the Release notes for that pack, they indicate:
NBAR2 Protocol Pack 6.4.0 is supported on the following Cisco Wireless LAN Controller platforms:
     Cisco 5508 Wireless Controller
Cisco Flex 7500 Series Wireless Controllers
     Cisco 8510 Wireless Controller
Cisco Wireless Services Module 2 (WiSM2)

  • Website/software that prevens you from logging onto the Internet

Recently I read about a website or software that allows you to disengage from the Internet for a period of time.
Do you know the URL for this site or product?
    Thank you.

Your question says that you want to prevent logging onto the internet...that is very easy to do, simply unplug the cable to your modem. Or turn the AirPort card off if you are using wireless.
If you are looking for software for another purpose, such as parental controls, that is a different topic and there are various ways of preventing unfettered access to the internet.

  • What is the best professional website software/book?

Overall for the Mac, I would like to know what the best programs/books are to someone who is extremely interested in becoming a website designer. I am currently extremely good with computers and know what I am doing and am willing to spend as much money as it takes. I just need to know what I need to read and use to become the best.

There are plenty of books on the topic, but I've never really found one I was 100% happy with.  Plus a book becomes outdated quite quickly.  For some good online tutorials, try:
    http://www.w3schools.com
As to the editing, if you want to become a real pro, learn to write your own code entirely in a text editor, like TextWrangler or it's big brother BBEdit.  And learn more than just HTML.  Learn to use CSS for design purposes, JavaScript for more interactive elements, MySQL for web-based databases, and some kind of server-side programming language like PHP.  That's a bare minimum unless you want to go more for the design end of things, where you'll want to learn how to use graphics programs and the like and skip some of the more programming-oriented skills.

  • Apple website software demos

which program is used to record the video demo of software products ie ;-
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/theater/dashboard.html
also any ideas what settings are used to encode them so small..

What do you mean, encoded so small? That Dashboard demo is 40 Mbytes, encoded using the Animation codec at 30 FPS and a data rate of almost 2Mbit/sec! It's fast start, but for a less-than-3-minute presentation, it's HUGE. Granted, it's a large screen size. Also, it has an audio track, which seems kind of weird. I know I didn't hear anything when I played it (and yes, sound is working on my system).
It looks to me like Apple used whatever capture software they used, and didn't bother to do any optimization on it at all!

  • Website/software issues.....

I'm wondering if there is a reason why Canon has made every single step, from registering my daughter's camera, to accessing the Image Gateway so difficult.  I have literally spent three different nights just trying to enable my daughter to use the Power Shot camera I bought her for her birthday.  I bought this camera because the salesman at Best Buy said it was easy to use, and I'm a pretty technology-savvy person, but I'm about ready to take it back to the store.  After three attempts at registering it, I was finally successful, and managed to get to the Gateway, (which was no small feat, as all of my other attempts resulted in a very nonspecific error message), where I was given a link to download more software (I already installed the software that came with the product).  Now it says an administrator has to give permission to install on this computer.  I am the administrator, but it doesn't give me any means to give permission.  So is there any particular reason why we have to jump through so many hoops just to allow my daughter to upload a picture to Instagram?

    Hi Riacz8,
This sounds like you may need to repair the permissions on your computer.  So we may better assist you, please reply with the operating system on your computer or contact us.

  • IPad website software

Qualcuno mi potrebbe dire se è possibile creare un sito web su iPad per favore. Grazie.

It's not as easy as iWeb.
A HTML Egg page is one webpage with all the styling in the code + a folder with the pagename for the images.
With a HTML snippet you can add your own code.
And like iWeb, if you want more than just add a textbox and an image, you have to study and practice.
But thanks to my iWeb experience, I can do things I did in iWeb. So iWeb paved the road.
And 10 euros is money well spend for a fun app.

Hi there....i jus bought a new nokia 5800 xpress music edition with my vodafone contract and i've been thinking 2 use Bluetooth 2 transfer stuff frm ma Vaio lappy (vista)....but it wasnt successful..so later found out that i might have 2 buy n use a doggle 2 enable the bluetooth in ma laptop. Thank u
    Mou....

You should check if your lappy has built-in Bluetooth. If it's there, open control panel-> bluetooth-> options-> enable visibility, so you can pair with your phone. You don't need additional software. All the Bluetooth stacks are Vista drivers. You can also buy a Bluetooth dongle. Their cheap and well supported in Vista.

    Enhancements on the Cisco Website
    Software Download Enhancements
Get Ready for Software Download Enhancements on the Cisco Website
Dear Valued Partner, To improve your experience with Cisco and protect your investment in  Cisco Products, we’re pleased to announce the improvement of Software  download entitlement controls effective 10th January, 2011.
In preparation for this change, we ask you to complete the following  actions before 10th January, 2011: •   Verify all applicable Cisco Products are covered under Cisco Service  contracts, and that you have a valid license for Cisco Software. •   Verify your Services contracts are accurate and make necessary  corrections- serial numbers, part ID’s and locations must be accurate on  each Services contract. •   Associate all Services contracts to applicable Cisco.com user ID’s •   Verify all Cisco.com user IDs for your company are valid and  properly assigned to individuals in your company.  Starting 10th January, 2011, software downloads on Cisco.com will be  verified against Products registered on your Services contract. Attempts  to download Software for Products not registered on your Services  contract will not be permitted.
In an effort to minimise entitlement issues, we encourage you to  directly manage Services contract associations to Cisco.com user ID’s  via the Service Access Management Tool (SAMT). This tool enables  administrators to manage which individuals are allowed to request  Service from Cisco (e.g. technical support/ TAC, hardware replacement/  RMA).
Cisco.com users can use the Cisco.com Profile Manager to view which Services contracts are associated to their profiles.
Thank you in advance for your support.
    Kind regards, Cisco Services

    Hi all,
Thanks for the responses.  I enjoy the discourse and the recognition that sometimes I have sane reasoning!
I absolutely understand that time is money.  It is for Cisco too.  And you correctly point out that there are areas of our business where we need to improve in terms of the ease of doing business with Cisco.  I know our senior leadership has always been committed to this and that actually right now, it is called out with laser focus that we will address some of these most critical pain points.
Will we always get it right?  Nope.  Will we always address them as quickly as we and our customers & partners would like?  Nope.  But I can say that my role and others in similar roles are your advocates.  Your feedback matters, and where possible, we will aggregate it and address it.  I know that sounds “jargony” but I believe in it.
To some of your specific points:
    Licensing
6 hours on the phone related to licensing issues isn’t acceptable.  I trust that this is more an exception than the rule, and I know that licensing as a whole is always looking for continuous improvement opportunities.
    Contract Associations
I agree this model can be improved, but I don’t think the challenge or cause of the pain is SAMT.  SAMT is a tool for partners and customers to use in order to manage associations on their own.  At the end of the day, the work that SAMT does is the same as if Cisco had made the contract association.  It just enables the partner or customer to do it themselves.  This was born by partners asking specifically for this capability.  I think the issue is more about the model of how we entitle people with their contracts based on these individual associations.  I know that some very bright people are looking at this through the lens of contracts belonging to companies and companies have individuals with Cisco.com profile.  This approach could help and will be analyzed.  But, there is always going to be some form of associating an individual Cisco.com profile with something…a contract or a company.  We can’t entitle you to services unless we know who you are.  So we’ll continue refining the tools to help make that association happen whatever that looks like.
    3rd Party Consultants
We understand the issues here and that many of your businesses are about servicing customers who didn’t purchase their Cisco service coverage from you.  But think of it this way…Your customer buys equipment and service from one company, and that establishes a services relationship between them and the company they bought from.  Or in the case of SMARTnet (most common in the scenario you gave), establishes a direct services relationship between them and Cisco.  The customer now calls your company and you come in to support them.  How would Cisco know that you have permission to obtain service on behalf of that customer?  We aren’t aware of any affiliation/relationship your companies have unless we are told.  Enter contract associations.  And again, SAMT is one way that a customer can “tell” Cisco who has permission to access their contracts as they can manage that themselves.  There are other ways to let Cisco know of the association with your customer but also recognize that comes with the due diligence on Cisco's part to protect the customer as well.  We can’t blindly allow just anyone access to services that the customer has via their service contract.
    Huge Numbers of Contracts
This can certainly be a challenge having to manage contracts one-by-one on an individual basis.  One bit of good news is that partners can utilize their Bill-To IDs as the mechanism to pull all of those contracts together.  This is yet another benefit of SAMT.  Partners can use it to manage Bill-To ID associations.  SAMT Admin Matthew Hall can say, “Give Jeremy Davis access to service all of our customers against the contracts they bought from us” simply by associating your Bill-To ID(s) with my Cisco.com profile and flipping the switch to tell Cisco that I can obtain support against every contract underneath those Bill-To IDs.  Powerful.  Does that help in the 3rd party consultant case?  No.  And it only works for the party that has a Bill-To ID with Cisco, so it isn’t often directly helpful for the end-customers themselves.  But it sure can be for the partner.
I can assure you, we absolutely, positively do not make it tough to do business with us intentionally.  As I mentioned, we are all focused on easing how our customers and partners do business with us, and continuous improvement does happen.  Keep the feedback coming because there is no better way for Cisco to qualify and quantify those pain points without hearing them from you.
    Thanks again for the input!

  • Does any extra software come with new iMAC?

My other Macs all came with bundled software (Omni Outliner, Stuff it Expander, Backgammon, and bunch of other neat things). This new one has chess-and that's it! Seems there should be-at least-some free software. Do I actually have to PAY for a zip file expander? and little extras like backgammon? Just wondering if my computer is missing something or...is that's just the way they come now. Bare bones. No bells and whistles?
