Website suggestion: filter search results by "available today in a store near me."

When I use the BestBuy.com website, it's almost always because I am looking to purchase an item that same day, or wish to inspect the product in person at a store, rather than simply mail-ordering it from an online vendor and waiting to have it shipped. No offense, but if I wanted to mail-order something or wait 5-7 days, I'd have gone to a different website.
While the BestBuy.com website does allow me to check the stocking status of individual SKUs at stores near me (opening up a new window / tab for every single one), this can be extremely tedious and time-consuming if I have to individually check a large number of similar and fundamentally interchangeable items until I find one that is available.
It's nice that the website allows me to narrow the results for any given search to merely "Best Buy Items." It would be extremely nice if the "Narrow Your Results" tab offered an option to further limit the selection to items which are in-stock at a store within a given distance from a ZIP code.

With there being so many different ways to shop, it’s understandable that you’d be particular in what you like! While I do order things online, I personally like the feeling of going into a store and seeing the product first. Furthermore, the instant gratification that goes along with walking out of the store, product in hand, is nothing short of fantastic.
Personally, I think your idea is fantastic. There are countless products on BestBuy.com, and your example of a flash memory card shows how one particular item may have many different types available. However, only some of those would be in-store, and that’s an awful lot of items to dig through individually!

You need to be a bit more specific about your requirement and your environment. What kind of functionality does your search need? Are you using enterprise search or FAST?
1) Your sites should already include default search boxes at the top right corner. If you need a search web part, you will need to create a web part page and add the search box or advanced search box (need a search center for advanced) onto the web
part page. If you need to change the default search box layout on all pages, you can do that by editing the master pages.
2) Are you asking for a specific query to be included in every search? You can can add a default appendded query using the search box web part properties. If you want to just have certain keywords show up at the top, you
can set up Keyword Best Bets. For the filtering, you will need to use scopes. You can set the scope rules to include/exclude specific sites, folders, content sources or property queries. If you're using FAST, you will need to set the scopes
up in the FAST Query app, not the FAST content app.
You can create keyword best bets, scopes and change the search settings for the site collection by going to Root Site Settings > Site Collection Administration > Search Settings. Hope this helps. Again, we need more info to provide a more specific

How do you filter search results?

We have a search button on our website that does a sitewide search, and I was wondering how you get about making it so that the search results display in date order (most recent items first). At the moment it seems to display things at random, with items as old as 2005 being listed first. Can anyone help please?

I'll share my newly found work around.
I use this. I put a huge number in the resultsPerPage argument and then process the results with a JS sorting plugin like this: http://datatables.net/index
{module_searchresults,_blank,100000}
That plugin it particular is better than the built in functionality as it has better pagination and can sort columns if you display it in a table.
I have to warn you, this is not something someone can do with out good working knowledge of HTML & JS/Jquery.

Firefox is having problems loading website with ASPX search results. i get a stupid pop-up saying this is a ASPX file would you like to save or open!!

since firefox 4.0 i get problems with sites the contain a search engine.

It simple WONT open the website keeps whining about the website beeing an ASPX file and if i want to open or save the file,
If i choose open and select firefox the pop-up keeps retruning if i choose save i just get a file stored on my HDD witch i cant open with firefox this is pretty annoiing.

Unfortunenatly this doesnt help me.
Like i said before it is a problem since the last update of firefox.
I already deleted cache and cookies the problem also ONLY appears in firefox.
I have allready turnd of my firewal and virus scanner.
So if you have any other solution wich ISNT a standa5rd awnser i would be gladly appreciated.

Categorize and filter enterprise search result

Hi All,
I want to know if it is possible to categorize and filter search result based on source (ex: list or library name or external content type etc). My client does not have FAST server license.
If this is possible with enterprise search without the FAST server could you please let me know how to achieve it.

We could sort search results in Search center, and we need modify XSLT for search result web part.

Address bar URL produces search results vs. going to site.

There are two identities on my desk top. Until today, both worked the same when a URL was typed into the address bar.....I would go directly to the site. Now on one of the identities, instead of going to the website, it give search results. Some setting was obviously changed and I can't seem to determine how to reset to go directly to website. I decided to take the path of least resistance to avoid spending any more time than necessary on my "issue." I took FF4 off my computer and reloaded FF3.6.7....with no joy. I STILL am not able to have just a plain, old internet address bar in which if I type an internet URL I am taken directed to that web site....the the website address stays in the bar so I can hyperlink it, send it, copy it, etc. I don't get it.

Why is Firefox painfully slow/unresponsice when I return from a website to a search list?

If I do a search, and open a website off the search results in Firefox, then close the website to return to the list, Firefox is completely unresponsive for a period - won't return to the pointing hand, just an arrow, which does nothing. It has been like this for a while. I thought it might be Kaspersky 2013, but switching it off makes little difference. It is so slow that it makes Firefox almost unusable.

I have uninstalled Kaspersky (licence expired now anyway) and installed Norton. It is not so bad as when Kaspersky was in use, but is still slow.

ITunes Store not displaying search results on my Mac Mini

Over the past couple weeks I've noticed problems with search results not displaying in the iTunes Store on my Mac Mini. I do not have this problem on my Macbook Air or other Apple devices. I can enter an artist such "Coldplay" and all I get are audiobooks and podcasts. When I enter this same search on my Macbook, I get all the expected results--songs, albums, etc. I am running OS X 10.9 on both machines (with iTunes version 11.1.2).

I can't seem to add a further question to my original question.
Although with your help I found how to select (and drag!) Spotlightcategories, the next time I went to search, it used different parameters than those I'd selected. For example, I'd unchecked Mail and web pages entirely, yet mail appeared second in the search results and web pages at the bottom.
If I don't click that you helped me this time, it's because I want to keep the discussion open until I am SURE I've fixed it.

Setting 'Spotlight' preferences and using it to search seems to be the best answer, because it sorts results by type.
, System Preferences, Personal, Spotlight, Search Results (or clicking Spotlight Preferences at the bottom of an active search) lets you control search results by types of files quite specifically:

How do you create a custom search result for surrounding suburbs for a real estate website?

I have a Web App for property listings for a real estate website. There are item fields as follows:
Suburb List:
Edensor Park
Hoxton Park
Denham Court
Cecil Hills
Abbotsbury
Surrounding Suburb List:
Edensor Park
Hoxton Park
Denham Court
Cecil Hills
Abbotsbury
Say a property is listed in Edensor Park as the main suburb and Hoxton Park and Denham Court are also selected as its surrounding suburbs.
On the website's search form, the visitor selects, for example, Edensor Park. I need the search results to show everything listed in Edensor Park as well as in the surrounding suburbs of Hoxton Park and Denham Court. Is this at all possible?

The Filter settings are sticky. Every container listed on the Library tab of the Inspector keeps it's own Filter settings, set to whatever was last used.
I'm not aware of any way to set a default Filter.
You could create a Folder and put a Smart Album in that Folder with "Source" set to the Folder. Any Albums or Projects you put in the Folder become the superset for the Filter you set in the Smart Album. This is a pretty sophisticated set-up, however. What is the filter you need, and how often do you need it?

Search Results - Filter Results By: - Show More ...

When I use the "Show More ..." option under one of the "Filter Results By:" groups, it works as expected. When I then select one of the items to filter by, it again works as expected. However, if I hit the back browser function or select the "Unfilter" option, the "Show more ..." expansion is restored. I suggest it return to the "Show Top 5..." presentation (as before the individual filter was selected).

You are right, I thought about this BADI we already enhanced it for BP authorization (like many people did in this forum). However my concern is that this BADI gets called like a million times before it gets back to the search result page and I am just not sure of the impact on performance. So I was thinking if anything else is possible at UI level. But may be I don't have many options here :(. Also if I select the multiple values for the field in the BADI it comes up in debug mode

it is searching for both individually, so it is basically working as a select option, not sure how I can combine them both.
Also you mentioned that searching BP on marketing attr is not possible in standard, but I think it is possible and we are searching on it. I know we have enhanced BP search for some other purposes but not for marketing Attr. as I can clearly see a standard field for MARKETINATTR in the context of BPMAINSEARCH IMPL class and when I use it in the search field it does pop up another view when I hit f4 on the possible values where I can select my attr set, attribute & value. I am on 7.0 by the way.

Embedded Google search on our website is not showing results. Windows 8, 64 bit, Firefox 30

We have Google Search embedded in our website. It was brought to my attention by one of our employees that Firefox is not showing the results of the search after the search button is clicked. The issue seems to be only confined to Firefox. Tested the issue on Internet Explorer 10 and Google Chrome and both are working as expected, showing the results on our results page.
I am using Windows 8, 64 bit, Firefox 30. The user having the issue is on Windows 7, 64 bit.
I used the Web console and there were an error message of
'TypeError: google.search.Search.apiary5337 is not a function'.
I am not sure this is the root of the issue or not, but why would this work in Chrome and Internet Explorer and not in Firefox?
If you need to check it, out website is http://www.dmns.org/ . The search box it on the top right of the page. You will see that the page redirects to our '/results?q=searchterm'. We are a science institution so if you type "science" in the search box, you will get redirected to the '/results' page with the query string of 'science' for the search term. But in my case the search results below are blank. If you do the same search if Chrome or IE the results show fine.
Oh, I do not have any add on installed on Firefox.
Any suggestions or a fix would be great.

Problem SOLVED.
This is probably still a bug in Firefox. Our Google Search <script> that call the Javascript service from Google was within the Body tag. I moved the Script tag to the head and now it seems to work as expected. In the new Firefox, are <script> tags not allowed within the Body element?

How to filter list items by current system time in search result wp or result source SharePoint 2013

I want to display Items with PressDate less than or equal
to current time in my search result webpart in SharePoint 2013.
It is working fine for current date but not considering current time.
{searchTerms} ContentType="ABC" PressDateTime<{Today+1}
Above query not supporting for Now(), due to that it
is showing items which are less than or equal to current (today's) date.
How can I compare time with current system Time?..Thanks in advance.

You can achieve the same by using a Current Date Offset in a CAML Query to Filter List Items.

Unable to filter people search results by managed properties

I am in a strange situation. If I do not specify any filters, my people search works fine. However, if I filter it by a managed property, it does not return any results.
How can I verify the search crawl is crawling these properties?
Any pointers?

According to your description, my understanding is that when you filter managed properties in People search results, then it doesn't return any results.
Something needs to clarify. Does all the properties not return results or some specific properties ?
If just some properties not return results, then I suggest you can check if you have set indexed for these properties and if there are valid data in the properties.
If all the properties can't be filtered, I suggest you can check if there are something wrong in the ULS logs and check if you have set up People search correctly.
