WEBSITE takes long to open.

I have a few movies on my website (5) that are under 10 MB in size.
People (PC users in particular) find it slow to open.... 4 minutes.
Is there something I can do to speed things up?
The moviews are exported from FCE to quicktime -to desktop -to QT PRO to -export for web.
Any input appreciated.

There is one way you might add the movies to the page which will not require the movie to load with the page. See the example in this demo page: QT Movies via Export for Web in QT Player.
There's a second way but might not be what you're looking for. Any way see this demo page: Opening Movie in a New, Precisely Sized Window. It's easier to implement.
Converting the files to flash and embedding the flash file into the page with an HTML snippet would let the videos be compatible with more computers - more have flash capability than Quicktime, especially over in the "darkside".

  • 4" x 6" videos take longer to open than a 3" x 5" vid? Load time affected?

I think I know the answer to my question but I want to make sure before I go and change the sizes of all my little mini videos:
Does the speed at which a video opens depend (among other things) on the DIMENSIONS OF THE VIEWING BOX? So that a 3“ x 5” picture takes longer to open than, say, a 4“ X 6” picture?
Is the difference a noticeable one? If a larger picture means waiting only two more seconds for the video to open and show, then that seems an Ok payoff to me. But if the wait becomes considerably longer, than it probably is not Ok to the visitor.
    Thank you.

Winston C... I mean at the point where a visitor to my website has already opened the Big Album Index page and clicks onto one of my mini videos, like the Dominatrix Rise Up vid. If I were to make smaller the box in which you see the Dominatrix speaking, would that page open up faster? If yes, then is it substantially faster? Or am I ok just leaving the dimensions of the box alone?

    Hi ...
Checked to see how much free space there is on the startup disk lately?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

If disk space is not the issue, booting in Safe Mode deletes system caches that may help.
A Safe Mode boot takes longer then a normal boot so be patient.
Once you see the Desktop, click the Apple menu icon top left corner of the screen.
From the drop down menu click Restart.
See if that makes a difference ...

  • Everything seems to take longer to open in iOS 8 on my iPhone 5. Are others experiencing the same thing?

Since upgrading my iPhone 5 32 GB to iOS 8 the other day apps seem to take noticeably longer to open. For example, MyFitnessPal and FaceBook. One time the camera didn't even quite open and I had to force it closed and try again.
Are other people experiencing the same thing?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    doug

When you got the new phone, you restored it from backup, I assume? If so, you might want to restore as new. I know it's a pain, but.......it might help.
In my case, whenever there are major upgrades, especially if my device is "underpowered" I usually restore as new with the new major upgrade. But that's me, and it is a pain in the end.
PS I did not restore as new with iOS 8 on my 5s, but did so on the 5 and 4S.

  • Report put on website takes time to open [openDocument( doc id ) api prob]

    Hi All,
    We have a BOXI R2 SP2 installation on AIX 5.3 (UDB 8.2 FP14).
We have a website where we provide a URL to open a WebI report. But, this report is taking more than 20 mins to open.
When we try to open this report directly via Web-i / Desk-i, the report opens quickly.
As per the our investigation so far->
    - Business Objects Reports web app that uses BO SDK to open BO Reports is performing very poorly. Even a simple report (no  DB calls) takes 20 mins to open.
-API call report engine.openDocument(<DOC ID>) takes 20 mins.

Above is the application log information captured:
report engine.openDocument(<docId>) api call takes like 20 mins to open for report.
BO SDK openDocument(<doc id>) api call is taking long time.
JVMs for BO on the webserver have been recycled. The report-server is working fine, other report URLs on the website are working fine.
Kindly suggest on resolving this issue.
    Thanks and regards,
    Anand Moharir.

    New information:
When I originally wrote this, the command script worked as advertised. That was yesterday. I've since had to add the following lines just BEFORE the call to start the oidmon.
    echo Starting as9inf oidctl >> iasStartup.log
    %ORACLE_HOME%\bin\oidctl server=oidldapd configset=0 instance=1 start
Sometimes me thinks that Oracle reconfigures itself at night when I'm not watching.
    Enjoy.

  • It takes longer to open my music and videos

I want to listen my music or watch my viedos on my ipod touch but it takes a long time to open music and video???
    why??
and how can i solve it????

    Hello Mariana,
Have you tried a hard reset to see if that makes a difference?  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If the issue still persists, there may be a few corrupt files somewhere.  So try restoring your iPod from a previous backup via iTunes.
And from there restore it to factory defaults if necessary.  There corrupt files may be in the backup as well.

  • InDesign files take long to open when clicking file icon

Ok, I have a weird problem with a Windows XP machine running InDesign CS6. Whenever the user tries to open an .INDD document by double-clicking the file icon itself, it takes 3-5 minutes, literally, before the document will open. This is with InDesign running already. It happens with .indd files on servers, locally on the desktop, files with content & links, and even completely new & blank documents.
However, if the user simply drags the file into InDesign, it will open up right away. No problem.
This behavior is not being seen on other WinXP machines, nor is it being seen when trying to open other documents in other applications (i.e. MS Word) on this particular computer.
Any ideas? This machine had Windows XP and Adobe CS6 reinstalled from scratch yesterday.
    Thanks!
    William

Sad that this issue was never addressed or responded to, for I am having the same exact problem with InDesign CS5.5 and with files located on a network server. I tried the above suggestion of dragging the file directly into InDesign but that doesn't work everytime.

  • Hard Drive takes long to open!

i have a couple of internal drives installed in my 2.8 GHz 8 Core Mac Pro (running 10.6.3), and lately i have discovered that they seem to become stuck. what i mean is that if i double click or select a drive from the Finder the drive takes 4 seconds to open.
This is unusual because before it was instantaneous.
Anybody encounter this problem before? i am planning to do a erase and clean install soon, this might fix it.

Do you have the hard drives set to go to sleep? Sounds like spinup time.

  • MS Excel 2010 takes long to open with Hyperion Smartview 11

    Hi,
the MS Excel 2010 takes about 20 sec to open a blank sheet when is with a user without Internet access. It is automatically open with Internet access. This behaviour started after the installation of Hyperion Smartview.
    Can you help?
    Ant K.

I've never worked with Hyperion Smart view.
But it sounds like the program configured to access the internet and perform an operation, such as check for updates for that program. Since we know this issue may caused by the Hyperion Smart view. If it is an add-in for office, we can try
to disable it to check if excel can open blank worksheet normally, meanwhile, if you want to use this tool, you can enable it. File->options->add-in

    MacKeeper is utter garbage!!!!
Before even attempting an OS X upgrade, completely remove this serious "crapware" from your system!!!!!
If you do not believe me, do a search in these support forums for MacKeeper and you can see for yourself!
    Get rid of it!

  • Web sites take forever to open, I had to switch to iexplorer which had no problem opening websites.

I try to go to websites and it takes forever to open, the little circle just keeps spinning. Sometimes it opens after a long wait, but sometime it times out.
To check the problem I went to internet explorer and had no trouble.

    Hey Hannah-O,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
So the Time preferences will not load, the fan is running at full speed, and the CPU is being used. You can try starting the computer in safe mode to disable nonessential items then restarting like normal. If it is still having the issue then reset the SMC. That can help applications that may not function correctly or stop responding after being opened.

  • When I need to open a folder on the desktop takes long time to open, so it is with the hard drive?, I'm using Maverick

The system boots without any problem, applications without a problem when I'm on the desktop and I need to open folders taking forever to open and for a moment I open and blocks other thing that the colored circle appears, use ten folders on the desktop where I'm keeping this information and take process and lock the desktop makes my job a little slow, and does anyone know anything about all of this as repairing system error?

Have then select one of the photos and type Command+i. In the Info window that comes up check to see which application is set as the default application. If it's iPhoto therein lies the problem. Regardless of what is set for the default select Preview and click on the Apply to All... button. See if that will fix the problem.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Large file takes long time to open

I'm not an Illustrator user.  I work in IT.  One of our Illustrator users is complaining that it takes about 10 to 15 minutes to open a 500MB file.  She has the latest hardware and 4 GBs of RAM on Windows 7.  She is on the latest version of CS5.  I just installed it a month ago.  CS4 was doing the same thing, so we bought new hardware and CS5.  I'm wondering if this is normal for such a large file to take this long to open?

John is probably on to something, but then again it may be normal even when opened locally - AI's memory management simply isn't that great and it also doesn't progressively render partially opened files, so it waits for the whole file to be loaded before even giving you a shred of a preview, which, depending on what features are used, by itself can take forever....
