How do I have my web.mac.com site link to my newly purchased domain name?

Please help me I'm new to .mac and very stuck. I
have a web site www.trendtrophies.co.uk I have asked
my domain host to set up a forwarding service to my
.mac account which he has done. When My brother, his
friend and myself try to access the address on our
macs we get a blank page. However, I have had 2
people on PCs try the site, the domain company have
tried it on other pcs including dial up connection
and all work fine. I only purchased my mac a few
months ago and it is all upto date with latest
tiger.

Actually there is a way to remove the site name when publishing to MobileMe. However, if you have more than one site it will not work. It's spelled out here: IWEB : PUBLISH TO MOBILEME WITHOUT THE SITENAME IN THE URL. Remember you can have only one site published to your MMe account if you use this method.
If you can live with just www.briantylermusic.com in the URL of every page and only be able to bookmark and enter your site via the fist page use URL forwarding (instead of CNAME) with masking enabled. But remember the two caveats I mentioned. That could be a deal breaker depending on your site and the importance of individual pages.
Just my opinion but the look and content of the site is what catches people's eye and brings them back. This leads me to the fact that users won't even notice what's up there even if they bookmark it. The simple domain name will get them to the site and the content will keep bringing them back, not what the URL looks like. +Much ado about nothing+ as someone famous once wrote.

New Domain Names and Contact Form Issue

Hello all,
I'm working for a client who is using one of the newer domain name extensions. It reads like this: www.COMPANYNAME.farm
The .farm is a new extension.
On my contact form I use the e-mail address [email protected]
The e-mails are never sent through. You can submit a form, it says it sends successfully, but the e-mail is never received.
Any ideas if adobe muse has troubles with the new 'non-standard' domain extensions?
Any other solutions?

Sounds like you are hosting on GoDaddy? If so, there are plenty of threads on here with the same problem.
Generally what you need to do is create a dummy hotmail address and list it first. [email protected], [email protected] and that will likely fix your problem. Kind of a crazy work around but that is a GoDaddy issue (if in fact you are hosting with GoDaddy).

You may already figured this out, but I had the same problem and later learned that Apple will not provide a DNS number. I had to pay my domain host to forward my domain (aka "domain forwarding") so that someone typing in my domain is automatically forwarded to my Apple homepage. Even then, viewers will see the very long iWeb url in the domain/url field, and so to avoid that, you might consider paying a few more bucks to get "domain masking", which replaces the long winded iWeb urls with your domain. The only problem with that is no matter what page of your site the visiter is on it always says your domain (www.xxxxxx.com) in the domain/url field. Its a compromise, but at least you have the satisfaction of using your personalized domain name and the ease of use of Apple's iWeb system.

I'm trying to create an account with the new domain names ([email protected]). .works is part of the new domains names available all over in recent months, but in the sign up form it says the email is invalid when it's working perfectly and it's totally valid.
I've tryed to contact support without sucess. do you have any idea how I can register an account with my [email protected] ?

AD Migration from NT 4.0 using New Domain Name & Unity UM

The customer currently has Unity 3.1(5) UM with Exchange 5.5 in NT 4.0 domain. They will be migrating to AD 2000 during phase 1 of the project, which will be followed by Unity upgrade to 4.0(4) a few weeks afterwards.
During the phase 1, Exchange 2003 will be introduced, but the mailboxes will remain in Exchange 5.5 until phase 2.
Here is the migration path proposed by the customer for the phase 1.
1. Current DNS will be isolated to a W2K server with the new domain defined in the DNS. All servers will point to this DNS server as their primary.
2. A BDC will be setup and then removed from our network.
3. Our PDC will be upgraded to Windows 2000 server. AD will be setup with a new domain of XXX.PRV
4. Service packs will be applied to the server.
5. The AD connector will be installed for Exchange 5.5
6. An additional W2K server will be brought online as a DC and additional global catalog.
I do realize that domain name change is not supported for Unity, but would this have any impact on Unity? Basically, the PDC that will be upgraded to W2K DC will retain old domain name (XXX_NT) as the NetBios name whereas the new DNS domain name will be XXX.PRV.
Since Unity does not need to talk to AD or Exchange 2003 at all until the phase 2, Im thinking this would be okay, but wanted to get some expert opinions on it. Also, the customer has tested some legacy servers in the lab, and they were able to authenticate against the XXX_NT domain name in the new XXX.PRV AD environment.
Phase 2 will consist of the following tasks.
1. Run DB Walker.
2. Back up using DiRT.
3. Extend AD schema.
4. Upgrade Unity to 4.0(4).
5. Disconnect Unity from Exchange 5.5.
6. Upgrade Exchange System Manager on Unity.
7. Re-establish Exchange partner relationship using Exchange 2003.
8. Run DB Walker.
9. Move Exchange 5.5 mailboxes to Exchange 2003.

Your project (from oh so long ago) looks very similar to what I am proposing to do now. I currently run Cisco Unity 4.0.4 SR1 with Exchange 5.5 (Unified Messaging), on an NT4 network. I have recently upgraded my network to Windows 2003 with Active Directory. I am building a new Exchange 2003 server in the new domain but not upgrading Unity 4.0.4--at least, not yet. I am looking to change the Partner Exchange server to point at the new Exchange server. I see no docs that cover such a scenario--only lateral moves (5.5 to 5.5, 2003 to 2003). As long as the ADC is in place, do you think I even have to change the Partner server when my new Exchange server comes online (initially)? How did your project turn out? Did you have to change the process you outlined above?

Having trouble setting new domain name in business catalyst

Hello,
I'm having problems setting up my site to go live. Here's what I've done so far:
1) built the site and pushed it live
2) upgraded the site
3) set up a GoDaddy domain name
4) set up the servers on GoDaddy
5) set up the associate account info on BC
And then.... nothing.
I've then deleted the domain and tried to repeat the process, in case I missed something, but now I can't set up a new domaine and keep getting the error "Domain already exists. Please delete all records associated with this domain". What records? What does this even mean?
Can someone please walk me through the steps to get this site live?

I'm still having no luck with the site. I've triple-checked and everything is correct on the GoDaddy end. I'm attaching a screenshot of with BC portal, so you can see where I'm at. I somehow ended up with duplicate domains and I have no idea which one to delete. Also, I can't seem to enter anything for the A records, C name records, etc. Is there anything at all that support can do to get this thing up and running? It's been close to a week since I upgraded the site. Please advise.

How do you get a new domain name?

I know it must be very simple to do but I just can't understand this process.
Do you have to buy a domain name from places like godaddy.com first?
Or can you created it on MobileMe for free?
Does it take 48hours to take effect?

All domain names must be purchased from an domain name provider. GoDaddy.com is just one of many providers.
Once you purchase your name and publish the site you can set up MobileMe to use that domain name in one of two ways:
1 - using the CNAME feature of MobileMe. These documents describes how it is done:

Why does FF 21 not open a site with a given domain name in Amazon-it will open img from that domain and will work if we provide a new domain name to same kit

We host a site on Amazon Ec2.
FIrefox will not load the page - it just times out after loading half the images etc on it
If we take the same site and give it the Machine Name the Amazon server on which the site resides, it will work.
If we give the Amazon server a domain name, it will work.
If we try to load a part of the page, like an image with the original (i.e. not working domain name) it will work.
Any ideas of possible causes?

Safari doesn't open new domain name .direct without www

When I try to open a domain like "mydomain.direct" Safari opens google search, but if I try to open "www.mydomain.direct" the website opens ok. Safari also doesn't open 3rd domains like "something.mydomain.direct" and sends me to google search.

I need to give a restricted access to internet by allowing few sites. How will I do it with the url of a particular website. If I put the url in the configuration it resolves to only a single IP. How will I do it for a website like google where there are numerous number of IP addresses.

Setting up email for a new domain name

I have my email on my server. I have had my mail on a .info address and now need to use a co.uk address. I cant seem to find the co.uk address on server."domainname".co.uk. I can find the old server."domainname".info but cannot email out. I can receive on this .info address. How can I sort this out???

Safari will not display new domain endings on iPad

Safari will not display new domain endings, instead goes to google, other browsers have no issue with this just safari. My domain per example ends in .photo rather than .com etc.... This is only an issue on the iPad or mobile app of safari.

You need to check that website again, after clearing the cookies from browser. If it still unable to connect with the website having new domain names then message to Safari forum about the problem or inform them via feedback option available in browser. Hopefully they would troubleshoot this problem.

New website domain name, how to redirect?

It appears when you rename your website pages a 301 redirect will redirect to the new pages without losing your ranking in the SERPS. However, a new website registered under a new domain name with more or less the same content creates new challenges. Is it enough to redirect the old domain name(s) to the new one using the C-Panel (and what exactly takes place when you do this?) or is there another solution? Until I find one, I am invisible to the search engines...

Joomla's default of index.php is only that way if you do not have mod rewrite enabled in the configuration meaning that you are on a windows server without access. If so you would need to make the IIS modification which it sounds like you have not done.

SH404SEF is only $40 and I don't care for the ".html" at the end of the file. I would remove that from their rewriting. Just not the best practice to rewrite files that way. Also the Google API just makes it easier to add in analytics, otherwise you have to add it into your template manually. Or it does the sitemap which you can do for free online at places like ( http://www.xml-sitemaps.com). Honestly if $40 is out of the budget I'd do the best you can with a free option.
I have been using a site recently with JoomSEF which is a similar paid extension. Honestly neither is as powerful as Drupal's pathauto which is free, but that seems to be the Joomla model.
