Website visability and Dreamweaver 8

Hi Everyone
I have made and published a website for a friend and id like
to be able increase its visability. I have put Meta tags and a
description in there, but my website isnt showing anywhere on any
search results, as i expected really.
So as web designers, do you ever offer help with visability
for them?
Are there any more tools i should be using in Dreamweaver 8
to increase my rankings on search engines or visiablity at all?
thanks

Meta tags have little to no effect on your page ranking in
the major search
engines. It has gotten much more complex since the halcyon
days of a simple
bit of <meta> contents.

  • Website image and zip file download links not working in Dreamweaver Air application

    Hi
    I have successfully created and AIR app for an existing business website using the Dreamweaver AIR Extension. The site works very well in all respects except for the part where we have high resolution images and zip files available for download. The download links refuse to do anything, and right-click (PC) / ctl-click (Mac) does nto work either.
    I suspect this may be an AIR sandbox/security issue but am I correct and what can I do to fix it?
    Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to give.
    Martin

    I am now facing the same problem. I wrote a servlet .
    code like this
             response = (HttpServletResponse) faces.getExternalContext().getResponse();
             response.setContentType("application/x-download");
             String agent = request.getHeader("USER-AGENT");
             boolean isIE=false;
            if (null != agent && agent.indexOf("MSIE")!=-1) {
                isIE=true;
            if (isIE) {
                fileName = URLEncoder.encode(fileName, "UTF-8");
            } else {
                fileName = new String(fileName.getBytes("utf-8"), "ISO-8859-1");
            response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment;filename="+fileName);
            ServletOutputStream os = response.getOutputStream();
            byte b[]=new byte[1024];
            int n;
            while((n=in.read(b))!=-1){
                os.write(b,0,n);
           in.close();
           os.close();
    and i open a new window refer to above jsp ,also i set a breakPoint at os.close(),the program has passed through,but nothing happened in the window.
    If i use IE or FF ,the browser will open a small window to allow me select whether open or  save the file.So can anybody give me some advice.Is it because air using webkit engine and the engine does not do this kind of job?
            Thanks.

  • I know this sounds ridiculous, but do you have to have Fireworks and Dreamweaver to create a website?

    Many years ago, I had a copy of fireworks and dreamweaver.  It seemed like I only worked with fireworks and created websites, links etc.  Do you have to have both and somehow they work in tandem?

    My suggestion would be to forget about Fireworks, because the application's development was stopped in May 2013, and no updates are coming its way either. It is dead software, unfortunately. It is already experiencing compatibility problems on the latest Mac OS, for example, and it is only going to get worse.
    To create a simple website, you have two choices: you either learn basic html and css code (as Mylenium suggested), or you use a visual editor.
    I have a feeling you veer towards the visual editor solution, so here are some options:
    - http://www.softpress.com/freeway-express/
    - http://www.kompozer.net/
    - Web Design Software by Xara: Xara Web Designer
    - Adobe Muse
    ... or install WordPress through your host (most web hosts offer a one-click install option), choose a nice template from the tens of thousands available online, and start adding content.

  • I am using OSX and an old version of Dreamweaver 8. What do I do to get at my website files and images?

    I have not made any updates or changes to my website in years but I need to now. When I tried to open Dreamweaver I got a message saying PowerPC app no longer supported. I ended up here and am a total loss as to what I need to do to access my website pages and make changes. This is all more complicated than I need, but I have to find a way to be able to make updates. I don't know what my options are and there appears to be no way to get to a live human being. I have just a small web based business and can't afford much. First, Go Daddy abruptly shut down down my blog, gone forever. Then, Prostores is closing down my shopping cart forcing me to do something or lose my 500 products and now I can't even get into my website to make changes to fixed links and point my customers to my new Ebay Store and Etsy. What can I do, easily, effectively and quickly. HELP

    Sounds like you may have updated your OS past your program. Dreamweaver 8 is nine versions removed from "current". I don't think DW8 is an option under OSX 10.7 (maybe one of the Mac users here can verify that).
    Like I mentioned, you can get a free 30 day trial of the newer DW from Adobe. That should give you ample time to make your changes and get them uploaded. From there, you can decide what you want to do (purchase a modern version of DW, find a different editor, etc)
    You have a few choices through Adobe after the trial...
    1. A single program license for DW is $20/month Creative Cloud pricing and membership plans | Adobe Creative Cloud
    2. A full CC Subscription gives you access to something like 17 programs for $50/month (including Photoshop, Illustrator and a lot more)
    3. Or you can still buy DWCS6 as a perpetual license version (one time purchase) for $399 and use it until an OS upgrade kills it again (DWCS6 no longer receives updates either).Creative Suite 6

  • Flash and Dreamweaver question? Please help :)

    Okay, how do I make it so that if I import a .swf file, that will act as an index with buttons to the other pages of the website, into my dreamweaver project and make it so that when I click the buttons on the .swf file, it will take me to the pages I make?
    Sorry if this should've been in the Flash forum

    It is a flash question, but still answerable... There are two options I could suggest:
    1. You can set up your links to be "absolute"... for instance, if your site is named http://www.mysite.com and you have a button named "About Me" that you'd like to link to a page named "aboutme.html", simply set up the link to go to "http://www.mysite.com/aboutme.html". *Note that this method won't allow you to test the link locally - it will only work after you've uploaded the "aboutme.html" page to your webserver.
    2. Second option is: You can link to the pages locally, but be sure all of your pages are set up in the directory correctly so that links aren't broken. For instance, if you have your "index.html" with your flash navigation embedded on the page, I would recommend NOT placing the .swf file into a subfolder like "images" or something like that - keep it on the same level of your directory as your index page. Also be careful about pointing to all subsequent pages - it's easiest if all of those are also on the same level, but if you have a large site and want to organize it, be sure your navigation links reflect the directory structure. e.g., if you're going to link to "aboutme.html", and it's in a subfolder named "generalstuff", the link would look like this: "generalstuff/aboutme.html".
    ***Note - if you're going to use the same flash-based navigation on every page of your site, you HAVE to use either absolute links, or ALL pages need to be on the same level of your directory (no sub-folders)...
    Hope that helps - good luck!

  • Can't download photoshop and dreamweaver in cloud. Says Installed, but I don't have it

    So a while ago I was using the trial version of photoshop and dreamweaver. I decided to pay for cloud to access these programs but I uninstalled the programs first. Now when I click the download I can't install either one because it says installed next to the image.
    I had asked someone on the website through the chat if I would have this exact problem and they told me so long as I purchased the product i would not have the issue. I didn't want to purchase if I was going to have the problem, but I'm having it
    I needed this program tonight so I'm considering just cancelling

    Hi JessyaDoucett,
    I would first double-check that you actually uninstalled them, usually the Adobe Application Manager checks the system to see what is currently installed, if Photoshop and Dreamweaver didn't actually get uninstalled that would explain what you are seeing.
    Don't uninstall, rather check if these products are listed here
    on Mac OS
    1. Double-click your hard drive.
    2. Go to Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers.
    on Windows
    1. Click Start > Control Panel.
    2. Click Programs and Features.
    If they didn't actually get uninstalled you should be able to convert the existing installations to be included as part of your Creative Cloud Membership using this workflow
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/convert-cs6-licensed-under-ccm.html
    If they were uninstalled but something went wrong you might need to install again from the trial or use the Adobe Cleaner tool as next steps
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
    You can launch Adobe Application Manager from
    Applications Folder on Mac or the Start Menu on Windows to reinstall when you're ready

  • Center website VERTICAL in Dreamweaver CS4

    Hello anyone,
    I would like to center my website VERTICALLY in Dreamweaver CS4.
    I am new at this and don't understand code language, so please use 'design-view' language if possible.
    Thanks!!!

    It's not a question of centering vertically in CS4, but doing so reliably in all browsers. Horizontal centering is easy. Vertical centering is not. The following tutorials explain how to do it:
    http://www.jakpsatweb.cz/css/css-vertical-center-solution.html
    http://murphy.cz/victoria-s-vertical-centering/
    Warning: they're not written in "design view" language. If you want to achieve a reasonable level of proficiency in web design, you need to learn how to use HTML and CSS.

  • Subversion and Dreamweaver CS5

    my team and i are very confused with understanding how this architecture and integration works. from reading various websites it seems we need to setup subversion and create a repository. my immediate question is where do we install and create the repository? on all our local machines or on the DEV server that hosts our website running on Apache 2.2?
    Also... today we all work in Dreamweaver CS5. each one of us created a site in Dreamweaver on all our local machines pointing to a mapped network directory we each setup on all our machines... and the mapped network drive (lets say Z:\) is our DEV machine with all our coldfusion files that we edit through DreamWeaver remotely.
    i'm trying to understand the architecture we need to setup and if we need to make changes to the way we currently have our sites defined. there is a good link on Adobe TV showing how to compare and check in/out files with subversion and what the icons mean here http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-dreamweaver-cs5/working-with-subversion-and-dreamweaver/
    thats great but i see the presenter is working off a local C:\ drive. where does our mapped network Z:\ drive as mentioned above come into play?

    How do you connect to SVN? could you show a better description on that, not just your icons? I'm getting an error when trying to commit files. This video didn't really go over anything to help anyone out...

  • Photoshop and dreamweaver help

    Hello, I am fairly new to website design and do not know coding at all, but am relatively good with photoshop so i designed my website by creating photoshop pages, and then slicing them, saving as web devices, and inserting into dreamweaver where I used the design aspect simply to manage the links and do photo galleries. My problem now is, that the website that i have created needs to be updated by the people I volunteered to create the website for.....(they want to add more photos, videos, and update other things) What do I do to allow them to update the stuff on their own so I dont have to constantly redo photoshop pages??? Any info will help, THANKS!!!!!!
    PS I use webhostinhub to host my site

    Exporting html from PS is fine for prototypes and demos, but not suitable for production. Read this tutorial for taking a Fireworks composition to DW. The concepts are the same for PS:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dw_fw_css_pt1.html
    Also, to allow non technical folks to update the website, you need to incorporate a CMS into it. Otherwise it will quickly turn into a big mess.

  • IS THERE ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS+ AND DREAMWEAVER

    HEY EVERYONE,
         I am going to be working on some websites for the first time and want to know if there is adobe Photoshop CS + and Dreamweaver available for Mac and is so where is the best place to purchase them(best price).  Also, Is there alternatives to the two programs that are compatible with word press and are free or cost less.  Thanks as always for your knowledge and help.

    What Michael means, google "Adobe Creative Cloud" - that will take you to the place where you subscribe to the Adobe suite of apps (including PhotoShop and Dreamweaver, for many hundreds of $$ per year),  IIRC around $500/year to use these apps.

  • Fireworks and dreamweaver issue. How they work seamlessly?

    Hi, I am new to these programs.
    I am trying to make a website using fireworks and
    dreamweaver. I've made my navigation area and headline in fireworks
    (simple navigation on left side and header on top). When I export
    this to dreamweaver, I am unable to make text etc in the blank area
    (main body content area) because as soon as I start typing,
    dreamweaver moves my navigation around because I think it is
    somehow linked to the main body area?
    I think I am missing a crucial step in this process.
    How do I use fireworks and dreamweaver seamlessly to allow me
    to edit body content of my pages, and not have it change anything
    on my navigation area?

    Here's a really good article on how to use Fireworks and
    Dreamweaver

  • Photoshop and Dreamweaver on the Stock MacBook Air 11" 2012 128gb 4gb

    Hi
    I'm just about to start my second year of university and have a budget of £850 and was just wondering would Photoshop and Dreamweaver CS6 run on the stock MacBook Air 11" (2012) with 128gb and 4gb.
    I already have a 21" iMac (2011) with 16gb ram to do the seriously heavy loads so the MBA would be for propering essays and light to moderate photo editing and to design templates for websites. I dont play games and I use the iMac to watch movies and I use my iPhone to listen to music.
    any advice will be greatly welcome
    thanks

  • How do I fix lost connection between Photoshop and Dreamweaver CS4?

    How do I fix the lost connection in Photoshop CS4 to Dreamweaver? When I save for web and devices, Photoshop doesn't save for web but instead saves to the original file in Photoshop. The image doesn't show up in Dreamweaver's image gallery at all. Do I remove both from my hard drive and reload both? I don't want to loose anything in Dreamweaver or Photoshop.

    Not sure exactly what you are asking since I am still a student learning Dreamweaver so I can only describe what is happening in non-technical terms. I have set up files in Photoshop CS4 for images that I plan to use in Dreamweaver as a gallery of thumbs that enlarge using the Behavior panel. I did this with over 100 images, first creating the correct size in Photoshop, then going to Save for Web and Devices, saving, and the image would then show up in my images list in Dreamweaver.
    Now, when I save for Web and Devices, save, it doesn't show up in Dreamweaver. Instead, it saves it back into my original Photoshop file with hyphens between each word.
    I have Windows XP Professional, Adobe Creative Suite CS4.
    I don't know how this glitch happened, I did nothing different and have used the process successfully already over and over. I read as much as I could understand on the Adobe website and apparently glitches do happen but I don't understand how to resolve this. Do I uninstall both Photoshop and Dreamweaver, and reinstall both?
    I very much appreciate assistance!

  • What kind of commenting system is best to use with a website created in Dreamweaver?

    What kind of commenting system is best to use with a website
    created in Dreamweaver? How would you rate Haloscan commenting
    service?

    Hm - there is only one PowerMac G4 without a line-in - it's called "PowerMac G4 (Digital Audio)". Take a look at this document:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58418
    ... it shows the back panels of 3 models, and if yours is the 3rd, that's it.
    In this case, you can really only input sounds digitally. The cheapest solution would be to get an iMic USB device (maybe that's what your husband had - look at the pic. Older models were more like silvery), it comes for < 40 $, and you can plug a microphone into it (with the small 1/8" plug). Not super-great sound, but for that mic it should be good enough.
