Websites changing my file associating from Acrobat Pro to Reader

Once before everytime I clicked on a pdf, it would open with Reader. Even when I told it to open WITH Acrobat pro. The IT man came and changed my windows file association via the Control Settings, I restarted and the problem was resolved.
BUT now when I go to a website and use the snapshot tool to capture a map, when I try to open Acrobat Pro, it opens in Reader! I re-associated my settings in the control box but it reverts to Reader. What to do. I want to make a pdf of the image on the website.
Acro 7 Pro, XP

Go to the task listing and disable AcroRd32. Then also disable the loading of that plugin in the START menu. You are finding why Adobe does not recommend using both Acrobat and Reader on the same machine.

  • Security settings change from Acrobat Pro to Reader

    I have set the Security Method in Acrobat Pro to allow "commenting, filling in form fields, and signing existing signature fields."  But when I send the PDF file my customer who opens the document using Adobe Reader, commenting is not allowed.  Why is the security setting changing?  What can be done to correct this problem?

    Are you sure this is not a limitation of the product?
    "Reader" describes a product that reads a file and nothing more.
    Have you looked at the Acrobat Professional's "Help" for information about enabling 'commenting'?

  • Change all file associations in get info dialog box

    Hey all,
    I got this program called Style Master to edit all of my CSS files. Well, BBEdit was still the app associated with the .css extension. If I used get info (cmd-i), changed the program from BBEdit to Style Master and then selected 'Change All' it would flip back to being associated with BBEdit. Even if I create a new css document in Style Master, it saves with a BBEdit association and icon. Quite annoying.
    Any ideas why I can't change the file association from BBEdit to another program?

    I believe the prefs associated with this action is: com.apple.LaunchServices.plist. Found in Users/Preferences. Place this file in the trash and retry.

    Make sure you have updated Acrobat X to the latest version 10.1.3.  They updated the PDF plug-in in 10.1.1:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83708/attachments/Acrobat_Reader_ReleaseNote_ 10.1.1.pdf#page=4

  • HUGE BUG printing Booklet from Acrobat Pro 11.0.10

    I spent an hour chatting with Adobe support in India. They could not solve this issue.
    I submitted a BUG REPORT at Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
    Here is the BUG Report:
    ******BUG******
    Concise problem statement:
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Export individual pages from InDesign as pdf (16-page booklet, each individual page is 5-1/2" x 8-1/2")
    2. Open pdf in Acrobat Pro 11.0.10
    3. Choose actual size, then choose booklet, and print. (printer contains letter-size paper, and page set-up is set to 100% scale.)
    Results: The printed booklet is the WRONG SIZE! The pagination is correct as usual, but each individual page is being REDUCED, and now each page image is too small, and there is now a GAP between pages, and the entire booklet is useless. If you can, please see case number: 0186447426: support chat: it covers everything we have tried so far ... (We tried everything they could think of, but all attempts failed.) This bug was introduced somewhere along the line with Yosemite.
    Expected results: As usual, when printing booklets from Acrobat Pro, we expect the print to be the right size, the same size as the InDesign doc, and as it has been printed previously by Acrobat Pro prior to Yosemite. Thanks for fixing this disaster of a bug. Please contact me if you need further info, copies of the individual page pdf, etc.
    I am literally stuck. I can go through the laborious process of using InDesign to "print booklet" to a postscript file and use Distiller to make the booklet pdf, but under Yosemite, I am prevented from installing print drivers unless that printer is locally available on my network. Unfortunately, the printer is located at my client's place of business.
    I realize there is typically a leap-frog effect between operating system updates, hardware, and application updates, but combined with other Yosemite issues, this Acrobat Pro bug is killing my business.

    DrStrik9 (sounds a bit poisonous to me!),
    The issue, regrettably, is that Acrobat is performing as designed. And it has nothing to do with either MacOS 10.10 or anything new or different with Acrobat 11.0.10 (versus earlier versions going all the way back to the initial implementation of the booklet printing feature). And this isn't directly a printer driver issue, either! The same behaviour occurs both on MacOS and Windows.
    The problem, simply stated, is that the Booklet print option in Acrobat (and Reader) is attempting to avoid loss of content due to the paper's non-printable margins. The scaling factors in the Size print option are not utilized at all in the Booklet print option. The Booklet print option attempts to fit two logical pages of your PDF file into the printable area of each physical sheet of paper. Assuming that your printer's Letter page is defined as having a printable area of 8"x10.5" due to a 0.25" non-printable area surrounding the page, then the Booklet print option will force each of the 5.5"x8.5" pages of your PDF file into a  5.17'x8" area centered on each half of the 8.5"x11" printed sheet.
    There are three workarounds that I know of:
    (1)    Many high end printers have booklet printing capabilities in the printer or printer driver itself. Check the detailed driver options to see whether in fact your printer / printer driver does support a booklet printing option. If so, try that first. That would likely solve your problem.
    (2)    Assuming that this is a PostScript printer, edit the .PPD file for the printer you are using to to modify the specification of the Letter printable area. In the PPD file, you will see an entry similar to this:
        *ImageableArea Letter/Letter: "18 18 594 774"
    or
        *ImageableArea Letter/US Letter: "18 18 594 774"
    Edit the entry to change only the four numbers as follows:
        *ImageableArea Letter/Letter: "0 0 612 792"
    That indicates to the PostScript driver that there is no unprintable border on your pages. Then save the .PPD file. I would then suggest rebooting and then trying to print. Note that the side effect of this is that Fit and Shrink oversized pages options will not take into account the non-printable area of your printer.
    Note that a similar hack can be done with Ledger (i.e. 11"x17") page descriptions in the PPD to fix a similar issue affecting printing 8.5"x11" pages to 11"x17" sheets as booklets.
    (3)    There are some very reliable third party plugins for Acrobat that provide full advanced document imposition capabilities, creating what are known as printer flats as a new PDF file from your logical pages. There are n-up, booklet, step-and-repeat, etc. options galore in such packages. Examples include Quite Imposing and PDF Snake. I have personally used Quite Imposing for nearly 15 years for this purpose and can vouch that it works beautifully. I don't have personal experience with PDF Snake, although it is less expensive.
    Good luck and let us know if any of this helps you at all!

  • Can't open a doc in the document cloud from Acrobat Pro DC????

    I signed up for the document could at the same time I bought Acrobat Pro DC for mac.  I can get to the document cloud from a browser and from there open it in Acrobat Pro DC.  But ... File/Open in Acrobat Pro DC offers me the choices of opening from the computer or from the Creative cloud -- and not from the document cloud.  It does list iCloud and GoogleDrive as available drives -- so I guess I am better off using iCloud or Google Drive instead of the Adobe document cloud.  I cannot get from the Creative cloud (for which I have no account) to the document cloud.  Seems odd that this is the way Adobe engineers arranged it.

    Can you please post a screenshot of the File-Open dialog that you see in Acrobat DC?
    Thanks,

  • I'm having trouble saving my file in adobe acrobat pro 9

    I'm having trouble saving my file in adobe acrobat pro 9.  When I attempt to save I get message saying,"Bad File Handle".  There are several pictures on this file I'm trying to save...dont know if that has anything to do with the problem, just thought it would be helpful information.  Would really appreciate any insight anyone has to offer.
    Thanks in advance

    I am having a similar problem with a simple pdf form.  I have made several changes to the pdf and when I go to save, I get the message that I can't save the file due to a "bad file handle."  I have opened, altered, saved, and closed the form several times before, just not now.  No one else was working on the form.  The file format is still a pdf and nothing has changed.

    Hi,

  • Problem changing JNLP file association

    I installed SUN JRE 1.5 Update 7 in a fresh Windows XP machine and found the registry recongizes the JNLP file extension is associatied with it. Then I installed an application that downloads IBM WebSphere Application Client 6 which actually uses IBM JRE 1.4.2 . After this installation IBM JRE changes the .jnlp file association from Sun JRE 1.5.0_07 to its own 1.4.2 version.
    Now I needed to change the JNLP file association back to previous one. I used Windows Explorer->Tool->Folder Options->File Types->Advanced->Edit and did that. However, I see my registry didn't change the association from IBM JRE to Sun JRE. But when I look at Java Control Panel, it says its associated with Sun JRE. Here is a windows shell script that I run to see the current JNLP file assocaition - which alwasy tells me its OBM JRE which is associated with the JNLP file extension. I tried restarting the machine, removing the cached copy from Java Control Panel without any difference.
    Can you tell me when this file type association may not work and why? Is there any Windows Security Patch issue here? Also what are the registry keys that I should look for (a few are mentioned in the script below)?
    code:
    // To run it:
    // CScript //Nologo JWS.js
    var fso = new ActiveXObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    var gShell = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Shell")
    function print(s) {
    WScript.Echo(s)
    function JavaSoft_JWS() {
    var regKey = "HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\JavaSoft\\Java Web Start\\"
    var ver = gShell.RegRead(regKey + "\\CurrentVersion")
    var path = gShell.RegRead(regKey + "\\" + ver + "\\Home")
    var javaws = path + "\\javaws.exe"
    print("Sun JWS")
    print("\tversion: " + ver)
    print("\texe: " + javaws)
    function IBM_JWS() {
    var ver = "1.4.2"
    var regKey = "HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\IBM\\Java Web Start v" + ver + "\\"
    var path = gShell.RegRead(regKey + "\\" + ver + "\\Home")
    var javaws = path + "\\javaws.exe"
    print("IBM JWS for HKLM: ")
    print("\tversion: " + ver)
    print("\texe: " + javaws)
    function JNLP_ASSOC_HKEY_LOCAL() {
    var regKey = "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Classes\\JNLPFile\\Shell\\Open\\Command\\"
    var path = gShell.RegRead(regKey)
    var javaws = path + "\\javaws.exe"
    print("HKEY LOCAL MACHINE Current JNLP File Association: ")
    print("\texe: " + javaws)
    function JNLP_assoc_HKCR() {
    var regKey = "HKCR\\JNLPFile\\Shell\\Open\\Command\\"
    var path = gShell.RegRead(regKey)
    print("Current JNLPFIle association for HKCR:\t" + path)
    function main(args) {
    JNLP_ASSOC_HKEY_LOCAL()
    JNLP_assoc_HKCR()
    JavaSoft_JWS()
    IBM_JWS()
    ---------------------------------------

    Did the clients happen to know what version they were upgrading from? We have seen this mostly when a system upgrades major Java versions, eg from 1.6 or 1.7 or switching from 32 to 64 bit Java and C:\Windows\System32\javaws.exe disappears or something silly.

  • Reduce File Size in Acrobat Pro (9.5.5) Corrupts Graphics in PDF Documents - shows up as black image

    Whenever I use Reduce File Size in Acrobat Pro (9.5.5), sometimes some of the images (not all) get corrupted and show up as a black image in the new document.
    Actually, the new reduced document looks okay when viewed in Acrobat, but the problem shows up when viewed in the Preview application on the Mac.
    I'm using Acrobat 9.5.5 with Mac OS 10.8.6
    I've tried re-importing the graphic into a new graphic box, which didn't work.  Thinking there may be some type of corruption with the actual graphic file, I then tried viewing the graphic, then taking a screenshot of it to create a completely new file, and then re-importing the new graphic file into the original document (created in Adobe In Design 5.0.4).  I then export the new document as a pdf, and brought it into Acrobat Pro to do the Reduce File Size.  Same thing happens - black box appears where the graphic was.
    I then tried using the Reduce File Size within the Save As function of the Preview application on the Mac - while the graphic remains intact, many of the other graphics in the document are "reduced" too much, to the point where the image quality is seriously degraded, and therefore not usable.
    Any other ideas?

    Hi Anoop,
    I can share the graphic file, but not the pdf which contains it (as it contains confidential information) - thanks!

  • Can't Duplex print from Acrobat Pro 9.3.2 to Epson Artisan 800

    I can not duplex Print from Acrobat Pro 9.3.2 to an Epson Artisan 800.
    I an running it from a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.6.3
    I called Epson support and they could not help me.
    However they suggested that I try using Adobe Reader.
    Well that works OK if I choose to print the document as an image, but I would prefer to just be able to work within Acrobat Pro.
    Does anyone outthere have any settings within Acrobat Pro that would enable duplex printing?
    Thanks
