Websites say safari 5 is no longer supported

A variety of websites (e.g. google) are giving me messages that say my browser is no longer supported. I have Safari 5.1.10 for OS 10.6.8. I can't find a way to update safari to a newer version without changing my OS as well. What do I do so that I'm using a "supported browser" again?

Hi ..
That's true. Safari 5.1.10 is the most recent version available and will never be updated again and neither will Safari that runs on v10.6 Snow Leopard.

  • Yahoo says Safari Browser no longer supported

Yahoo won't let me into my mail. I keep getting the message the Safari Browser is longer supported. Can anyone help? I tried looking for an Update download for Safari but couldn't find one.
    Thanks,
    Elizabeth

So I'm using Safari 5.1.7 on a PC running Windows 8. Every now and then I get the message from Yahoo! Mail that my browser isn't supported. Specifically the message is:
"You're almost there, but your web browser doesn't support the newest version of Yahoo! Mail"
To recover from this condition I find all I need to do is:
    Close all open Safari windows
    Relaunch Safari
    Login to Yahoo! Mail

  • I continue to get a message stating "This version of Safari is no longer supported.  Please upgrade to a supported browser."  How do I do that?

I'll start by saying I;m not real computer smart.  I need layman's terms.
I've been having issues completing transactions via Safari and based on the info I've gathered it has to do with my "no longer supported" version of Safari.  I get a statement saying "This version of Safari is no longer supported.  Please upgrade to a supported browser."  I have an iMac 3.06 GHz processor with 4 GB memory with OS X v10.6.8.
I understand I need to upgrade my Safari V5.1.10 but how do I do that?  When I click software update it says I'm updated.  Every time I do a search for Safari updates I get info for OS X & Yosemite.  However, I don't understand what exactly that is.  Just want a version of Safari that works.  Appreciate the patience of anyone that is willing to help.

    Hi
The version you using is not that old, but the upgrade is immediately required.
    Here are few available options.
    1) How to upgrade OS
    http://www.apple.com/in/osx/how-to-upgrade/
    2)
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements

         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
    3) If you are working and used to using some older applications on your computer, updating to Yosemite will create so many problems. Some of your older applications will not work anymore and you will have to upgrade them too. This = $$$$ . Maybe it will be cheaper to buy a new computer
Install Google Chrome or Opera Browser for free.

Please give a bit more system details. Which OS and version are you on? Is it 32 bit or 64 bit. Try downloading the Creative Cloud App if not already installed from: https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud. You can choose to install PS from withing this app and need not rely on web page.

  • Just upgraded to Mavericks and my HP6100 printer no longer works, when I try to reload the software it says PowerPC apps no longer supported.  Is there a way to use my HP6100 Printer with Mavericks?

Just upgraded my 2009 iMac (3.06 Ghz, core 2 duo $GB 1067 Mhz DDR3) to Mavericks OSX 10.9.5 and my HP6100 printer no longer works, when I try to reload the software it says PowerPC apps no longer supported.  Printer says the software was improperly installed. Is there a way to use my HP6100 Printer with Mavericks or do I need to go back to Mountain Lion or Snow Leopard?

It's not clear whether your printer is included in the Apple list - there is an Officejet 6100 and a couple of other types. Go to the page linked to above and use the browser search for 6100.
I'm afraid HP are notorious for not supporting older printers - I had the same problem. Probably they hope you will buy another printer (I did, but it was a Canon). I did look on HP's site and couldn't see a driver - you could give it a try (make sure you have the exactly correct printer name):
    http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/support-search.html?tab=1#/qryterm=HP6100&search_search type=s-002
Alternatively ou could try Gutenprint (open source software):
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
I found it would indeed drive the printer, but the colour dithering wasn't very satisfactory and the duplex printing bolt-on wouldn't work. However as Gutenprint is free it's worth trying to see if it's any good for you.

  • I got a message in gmail "this version of Safari is no longer supported.  Pls upgrade to a supported browser."  When I click on 'supported browser' it takes me to Apple's Safari site but there is no 'upgrade now' button.  What am I missing?

Google seem to have decided in the last week or so that Safari 5.x, which is the newest Safari version available for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard) is "not supported" any more, even though there are many reasons for staying with these OS X versions.
Try this (at your own risk, but it works for me), as it seems to remove the message by tricking Gmail into thinking your Safari version is newer:
    -- Quit Safari
-- Locate the following file (location depends on your OS X version):
    OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/WebKit2.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Info.pl ist
OS X 10.5 Leopard and older:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Info.plist
-- Drag the file to your Mac's desktop to make a copy. Also make a safe copy somewhere else eg your Documents folder, as if you lose or mess up the file Safari will not launch at all. Having a backup browser is also recommended.
-- Double-click it to open it in TextEdit
-- Locate the CFBundleVersion value (the last line in the file that has numbers in it) and increment the second digit of it to the required version of Safari e.g. Safari 6 now seems to be the minimum version that Google support so change the second number from 5 to 6 (don't change anything else, only the change the second number). The value is different depending on your OS X version but as an example, for Snow Leopard 6534.59.10 becomes 6634.59.10
-- Drag the file back from the desktop to its original location, choose the option to replace the old version, and enter your password when prompted.
-- Run a permissions repair in Disk Utility to set the permissions in the file back to what they should be (not required, but good practice).
-- Launch Safari and test Gmail.

You are up to date as far as OSX 10.5 goes.  Now you need to upgrade.

You can upgrade to Snow Leopard, but check system requirements first:

  • On my Mac OSX 10.6.8 I am getting the message that my safari is "no longer supported" What do I do

On my Mac OSX 10.6.8 I am getting the message that my safari is "no longer supported".  How do I upgrade safari?

I'm having the same issue as "naomi211."
I have an older mac. It seems I can upgrade only up to OSX 10.7 Lion. If I were to purchase Lion, would its version of Safari be supported or would it just be a waste of money?
    Thanks!

  • Tried to install CS2Premium and it says it is no longer supported...help, please

I just bought a new mac mini, tried to install CS2Premium and it says it is no longer supported...help, please

You cannot install CS2 on a new Mac Mini running OS X Yosemite. CS2 is far too old.
CS2 was written for older PowerPC based Macs running OS 10.3.8 or earlier.
Modern Macs use Intel processors which are not compatible with PowerPC software.
Furthermore, Yosemite no longer includes Rosetta (a utility formerly included - but long discontinued - by Apple in OS X to run PowerPC applications on Intel Macs).
You'll either have to buy a new full version of CS6 or join the Cloud.

  • I'm receiving a message when I open Safari that says it is no longer supported & I need to disable some browser extension. How do I do this? I checked Safari Extensions on my Mac & found none.

I'm receiving a message when I open Safari that says my version is no longer supported(5.1.10) & I need to disable some browser extension. In Safari Extensions there are no extensions. What should I do? Thanks for your help.

I now use the TenFourFox browser on our remaining PowerPC Macs including a G4 PowerBook. Web sites see it as a newer version of FireFox tha and G4 can support and you get much better compatibility. Wikipedia info/history here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TenFourFox
The TenFourFox official site and download is here:
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
Downside: the last version of TFF that supports plug-ins was V17 so current versions won't play Flash animations. Even when TFF played Flash, the old G-series Mac processors were struggling with modern web video content, so you are not losing much.
If you must have smooth-playing web video, you'll need a new computer, as very little web video content is optimized for our PowerPC processors on old Macs.

When using Safari I have begun to notice this box appearing as I try to reach any website:  "Safari is no longer responding because of a script on the webpage and then it lists what ever web page I have tried to reach.  It then asks me if I want to "stop" the script or allow it to continue.  I must "continue" it in order to reach my web page/  If I press "stop" it just keeps coming back and back and I can't continue.  What is wrong with my computer or Sarari or both?

    Does it mention "Slow Script?

  • ROBOFORMS Website say "Safari on Mac will be supported soon"

Anyone else notice this? Any more info?
    Macintosh browsers
Safari on Mac will be supported soon.
Interesting they say Safari on MAC will be supported...but Safari on PC won't be supported.

Interesting that ROBOFORMS doesn't support MAC but say "Safari on Mac will be supported soon".
I use ROBOFORMS on PC and 1PASSWD on MAC. Inports from ROBO to 1PASS are not bad, but don't allways work with FireFox and a bit less with Safari.
I need to keep app for each platform until my company changes to MAC (fat chance that they will ovccur, wish it would).
I'd be very happy if one of these would occur:
    * ROBO would support MAC
    * 1PASSWD would improve importing of ROBO
    * 1PASSWD would allows export to ROBO (perfer this one because I 1PASSWD).

  • Sion of This version of Safari is no longer supported. Please upgrade to a supported browser. I have am iMac v. 10.6.8. What now?

Browser: Safari, v. 5.1.10 Problem: Gmail posts a message that the version of Safari I have is no longer supported and to upgrade to a supported browser. When I attempted to update/upgrade, my system says there are no new updates. What is the best browser to use? I'm new at this stuff and totally lost.

You need to either upgrade the computer's OS or switch to a browser such as Firefox or Chrome.
To upgrade, open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

  • Maverick. Mail attachment now says can't be used because PowerMac no longer supported. Attachment worked before upgrade. Says Microsoft Word no longer supported.

A lease agreement attached to an e-mail opened fine in Pages with Mountain Lion this morning. I upgraded to Mavericks this afternoon and neither a revised offer nor the old one can be opened. A screen comes up saying I can't open Microsoft Word as PowerPc applications are no longer supported.
What can I do? Is there a way to dump Mavericks?

In Mountain Lion this morning, when I clicked on the attachment to the e-mail, I got a screen saying would I like to try opening the attachment with: And it gave me a list of choices, including Pages. Pages had no problem opening the attachment. Now after I upgraded to Mavericks I get the messages about PowerPC!  No choices!
