Websites that slow down your system

My system was running slow there for a while, so I looked in activity monitor and found that safari was using up a huge chunk of my CPU. I managed to narrow this down to a particular site that I recently started visiting. Is there anyway that I can change my settings so as to use this site without it monopolising my CPU?

This issue may be the same as these as the symptoms are similar:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9522744,
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9592205
and http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9399361
Before the situation TLP describes in his thread (9399361) I also encountered that Safari was using the amount of CPU you describe here.
This is an odd issue.

  • Does a partition for Boot Camp slow down your system?

I'm gonna make a partition on my disk for bootcamp. Does adding a partition slow down your system when using Mac OS? I assume boot camp assistant creates a partition wherever there is enough required free space. And if this free space is in the middle of the disk, doesn't the system have to skip back and forth over the partition to access data?
Or does boot camp assistant create the partition at the end of the disk?
    Thanks for your replies.

Boot Camp partition is generally created at the end of the disk so to speak. While the partition is created, files are moved and arranged so that there is a contiguous space for the partition.
NO it does not affect the OSx performance at all as long as you have enough free space in the OSx partition for it to perform satisfactorily.

  • How to find out what is slowing down your wireless speed

The first thing you need to do is when setting up your wireless internet is do it right from the beginning. For starters unplug and remove the batteries from all the cordless phones. If you have a wireless door bell or a repeater shut it off and unplug it.. Anything that is wireless in your house needs to be turned off. This also includes cell phones, Ipad's and Ipod's.This thing of telling the homeowner that the mircowave is causing problem is hog wash. But don't have it running while you are setting this up. In other words nothing in your house should be running including the AC and heat. Anything that is pulling hi amperage should be shut down during the set up. Now unplug all cables on the router except for your computer cable and power supply to the router. Hold the reset button in long enough to clear all settings. Now you are ready to set this up right. Sign into your router and go to My Network, if it is showing something other that your main frame computer you still have something on that the router is picking up. Find it and turn if off and reset the router again. Once everything is cleaned and the only this showing up is the computer you are ready. Now go to Speed Net or what ever you check your speed with and write down your average speed. Do three or four speed test to get the average reading. BTW, clear all cookies before you check your speed. Now go back into your router settings and rename you computer to what ever so you won't get that IP address confused with the rest of your hook up. Next take only one of your wireless devices and turn it on. Once the router picks it up rename it and put the security code on for that device to connect to the wireless device. It should also show it as being a wireless device. Also if all your devices can except performance mode go for it because the speeds will always be faster. Also start selecting one channel at a time to find the one that has the fastest speed. Try doing this close to the router, like in the same room. If you are using the performance mode your upload and download should be close to your wired connection. Now go to different parts of the house. You will see some drops but that is normal. Don't do this test on a PS3 or a WII because those speeds will always be slow no matter what you do. All Apple products won't work with Speed Net. Once you get connected to the internet it is always better to go back into your router and write down the assigned IP address and the IP address to the router sign in and manually put them in to each device. Always remember the higher security setting you can set you the faster the speed will be. Do each device as said in the above way. Something else you also might want to do is after you have set up each wireless device go back into your router setting under Wireless settings and disable SSID Broadcast. Only thing this will do is make it to where nobody can see your wireless connection. That way when someone wants to hack your router they won't be able to see it...ya can't hack what ya can't see....lol. Once you get all said wireless devices set up and connected then go back and start turning on phones...ect..ect. If you are truly getting interference you will be able to change the channel on either that device or change the channel on the router for that device. Most of the devices in this day and time should be able to except the 802.11n or the next letter down. The bad thing about the newest Verizon router is the security is still outdated for the PS3. Part two of this is Sony is still using a crap-o-la wireless internet receiver, as a result I don't care what cha do unless you hard wire it in and that still only helps some. Also this thing of putting your router on the window seal or up near the ceiling is also poo poo. If this was a true case why not just hook up a High Def antenna in the room...lol Also this thing of stating don't put the router near a wall is also doo doo. Their would have to be a load of copper wire in that wall to prevent a signal from going through it. If you think about it all wall electrical outlets are wired low to the floor. They take one room and wire them all together. They don't wire it up and down the walls. So most rooms have the wiring a foot from the floor. The most wire you will find in a house at one location is at the circuit breaker box and the box should be on a outside wall in the garage. In older homes like the 40's and 50's some are in the kitchen or a bedroom closet. On the older homes try and steer clear of those locations. Now if you are getting interference from something in your home this will be a easy way to find it. One thing Verizon needs to stop telling it's customer and that is if you get a faster speed which is more money it will correct your wireless problem...hog wash Once you spend your hard earned money and sign the contract, they forget to tell you they only guarantee that speed if it is hard wired...lol for some reason they always forget that part.

I forgot to suggest one more thing. On your computer go to start/ run/ type in MSCONFIG and go all the way to the right and click start up and then at the bottom select disable all and then reboot. Windows will only load what it need to operate. After that go back into MSCONFIG and go back to the start up and put a check into what ever security program you are using and reboot. Everything will still work fine. The only thing you are doing here is not running all the programs each time you turn your computer on.What this will do if you do this is it will start programs faster and it also is less wear and tear on your pooter. If you want to see what I am talking about go here>> http://www.blackviper.com/ and he will explain and show in full detail what I am talking about as far as being robbed by unnecessary programs running in the back ground. He will also explain the correct way of disabling things that you will never use. MS is set up for remote operation. Like calling your pooter from a phone which I am pretty sure most don't use that feature. If you want to see what happens when you go to any site while surfing download the free copy of CrapCleaner, run it and let it remove all the internet clutter and cookies, then go to one site and close IE down and rerun CrapCleaner again. You will then see what is really slowing down your internet speed. If you are using Windows 7 or 8 you need to go to Control Panel/ Taskbar and Start Menu/ then select Start menu again/ Customize/ and scroll down to Run Command and check it. Now you will be able to see the run command. I don't know why MS removed that feature.

  • What is this all about? "The "QuickTime Plug-in 7.6.6" plug-in is slowing down your Mac. You can wait for it to recover or stop it now."  I'm running Mavericks 6.8.

I regularly get a prompt reading as follows: "The "QuickTime Plug-in 7.6.6" plug-in is slowing down your Mac. You can wait for it to recover or stop it now."  I've tried waiting, but nothing happens.  I "stop it now" and lose the page I'm reading.

  • Hi, I am using an old PC P2 450Mhz, 256 MB Ram. Is ver 3.6.16 ok for my system or will it slow down the system? Thanks

Hi, I am using an old PC P2 450Mhz, 256 MB Ram. Is ver 3.6.16 ok for my system or will it slow down the system? NODD is the anti-virus. I am not happy with IE or goolge as these are taking too much space. Thanks

The system requirements for Firefox 3.6 are:
    * Pentium 233 MHz (Recommended: Pentium 500 MHz or greater)
    * 64 MB RAM (Recommended: 128 MB RAM or greater)
You exceed the minimum and are just short of the recommended processor. It should run OK but the only way to tell will be to try using it. Note that using add-ons can slow Firefox down, so if you start installing quite a few you may get performance issues.

  • Svchost.exe slowing down my system terribly

svchost.exe slowing down my system terribly. I ran the Kapersky program and no virus files came up. I am getting desperate. I am ready to kill my computer. Why is this process such a hog and how can I stop it?

To find what is causing your computer to use more CPU than it normally does you need to run this.
Install the WPT (windows Performance Toolkit) http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/4847.install-the-windows-performance-toolkit-wpt.aspx  ,
Open a CMD prompt with administrative rights (right click it>run as admin) and run this command for 60 secs to capture the high cpu usage:
xperf -on latency -stackwalk profile -buffersize 1024 -MaxFile 256 -FileMode Circular && timeout -1 && xperf -d cpuusage.etl
The trace will run and give you a warning then revert to a C:\ prompt
The log will be in C:\windows\system32.
    It should be called cpuusage.etl
Please zip the file and upload it to skydrive (or another file sharing service) and put a link to it in your next post.

  • How do I fix a Safari application that slows down and freezes everything?

Apple called last fall and said my particular Mac had a hard disk problem and they replaced it at the Apple store in late January 2013.  I backed up the information on an external harddrive and used Time Machine before to transfer all the information to the new drive. Everything worked well and I finally put on Mountain Lion at 10.8.4.  I also have Carbonite as a backup and it apparently was not enabled when I transferred the files until early May.  In early May I had not used my iMac for about a month and when I started it I found about 40 named file folders on the Desktop that were empty.  Some of those had named items in them but when I clicked on them they would dissappear.  The actual files did exist and were not effected when I dumped the apparent alias folders. Safari started and would be ok at first but if I went away for an hour it would slow down.  I took it in to the Genius Bar at Apple and they ran some tests and got rid of MacKeeper which they felt was causing the problem.  I got my Mac back home and it still started slow but worked well at first and then started going slow.  If I opened Word it would also start working at a slower speed.  I needed to force quit Safari and the Word progran in order to quit or restart the Mac.  I got an appointment for the next day and they ran all sorts of tests and the hard drive was working normally. They tried tweeking different areas and sent me home again.  When I started working again it did the same thing, I would start out fine and eventually slow down and needed to be force quit to get out of it. A message came up indicating my MasOSX startup disk had no more space available for applications memory.  I took it in a third time and the Genius went to the Activity Monitor and the Safari PID was 221 and %CPU 107, Threads 21 Real Mem 2.73 GB, Virtual Mem 22.00 Kind, Intel (64).  I had no idea what that meant. I went home again and it still ran slow and couldn't run the programs for any length of time before it ran slow and affected the other programs so they would only quit if I used Force quit.  I took it in for the forth time an they decided to keep it overnight. They ran ASD first to rule out memory.  They noticed during the appointment the computer was slow to perform normal tasks such as showing boot options, booting into user, bootingto external user.  If the ASD passed then they would perform erase and install and only restore users and application files from backup drive.  They did this on Wed and Thur. night and I took it home Friday night, June 14 and it still has the same problem. Typing this message right now means typing and waiting for the words to appear.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open. Post the contents of that window, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; } | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}' | open -f -a TextEdit
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Safari slowing down my system?

I swore by Safari when I first started using it back in 2008, but the latest version with 'webkit2webprocess.exe" is causing some huge slow downs.  I just can't figure out what's wrong, and why safari is sudenly a lumbering beast instead of the sleek predator that it used to be.
My system constantly caches, the bhard drive is constantly w eatorking with this thing installed.  It eats up RAM, and more ram, and never dumps anything, untiol there's no more page filing space.  Even now, after I wrote that last sentence my HD went active again.  Sure enough, "webkit2" is eating up naerly a half gig of ram.  And now when I type, I can't see what I'm typing.  and now it's eating up my video ram because I've run out of file page space.
who the upgraded this thing, the marx brothers?
thjis used to be the best brower on the market, but hnow it's JUST a piece of ram eating junk.

I also finger McAffee as the culprit, it's not necessary on Mac's as of 10.6.8+ Apple installed their own anti-OS X malware detector and it checks for updates like every 26 hours or so.
If you need to clean the Windows malware off their files, the free ClamXav does the job nicely and doesn't bugger up the machine as it's run as you need it.
For your other slowdown issues, I suggest you look through these tips of mine, my Snow Leopard is incredibly fast.

  • HT2055 Why does iPhoto crash or slow down my system significantly?

When I use iPhoto to import or work on my photos, it slows the entire system down big time and iPhoto itself continuously shuts down and I have to reopen. Just to import photos it takes several attempts to successfully get them imported to iPhoto. I love iPhoto and what it does but it is killing my system! Help!

What version of iPhoto and system are your running?  How much free space do you have on your boot drive. Post just the first 50 lines of the crash report.

  • Is your ios 8 slowing down your device a lot and make it unusable?Read this !

So lot of people told me that their ios 8 is slowing down their performance...Well im happy to tell you that this monday will be released the IOS 8.1 with a lot of bug fixes. So just wait for this monday

I already watched the ENTIRE Keynote.
The only mention was improvements in iOS 8.1 and additions like iCloud Photo Library.
There was no mention of what these "improvements" are going to be and whether or not this is good news for lPad 2 or 3 owners.
So, again, like I stated,we'll have to wait until Monday and see.
Still a a big question mark to what iOS 8.1 will or will not correct.

  • Select statement from bkpf slows down the system

    hi guys,
i have this syntax for this coding:
            SELECT * FROM bkpf
             WHERE bukrs = ekko-bukrs
               AND awkey = xawkey
               AND gjahr = i_ir-budat(4)
               AND blart = 'RE'.
            CLEAR: titab.
            titab-ebeln = itab-ebeln.
            titab-ebelp = itab-ebelp.
            titab-budat = bkpf-budat.
            titab-bldat = bkpf-bldat.
            titab-xblnr = bkpf-xblnr.
            APPEND titab.
         ENDSELECT.
this coding really slows down the report seleection and sytem , can anybody advice on how to select the better way

    Hi Ester,
First you need to avoid the select and endselect statement by using SELECT INTO TABLE.
Second issue is u are using non-key fields in where conditions are aweky, belnr  and u r not using the belnr which is first key-field in the BKPF table.
Third one is try to use the fields in correct order which it is in table say in ur where codition it should be like bukrs, gjahr, blart, awkey,....
if you dont have a input field BELNR and u need to do really improve the performance with these input fields wht you have, its is better to create Secondary index with proper sequence for felds.
But i am not sure to give permission to create secondary index bec it takes more memory occupation like what exact BKPF tbale contains, you need to permission from client people along with BASIS people.
i am give sample code  :
SELECT * FROM bkpf  " try to specify the internal table with exact fileds instead '*'
        into table tbl _ bkpf
    WHERE belnr = w_belnr
    and    bukrs = ekko-bukrs
    AND gjahr = i_ir-budat(4)
    AND blart = 'RE'.
    AND awkey = xawkey.
    If sy-subrc = 0.
    sory tbl_bkpf by belnr.
    endif.
Let me know if any doubts.

  • Can i install mavericks on 2009 aluminium macbook 13 inch which came with snow leopard? or will that completely slow down my system

I have a 13 inch late 2009 macbook that came with snow leopard. At present I'm using mountain lion, will it be advisable to upgrade to Mavericks or my system cannot handle that and may completely shut down….since my model is out of make now I'm scared of taking chances. 4gb memory and 2.26GHz processor. Please suggest.

First make a clone backup of  your Mountain Lion drive. If you upgrade and find you are not happy with performance, you can easily use the clone to revert.
Both of these applications can be used to create a clone. You will need an external drive for the backup.

  • CPU and GPU slow down after system upgrade

Ok, I can't find anything similar to the question I have...but this forum goes on forever
As my system specs appear below, my machine was running quite comfortably a week ago, with same setup...minus the acrylic case and second 120GB hard drive.
    At that stage I had "nomal" benchmarking scores 3dmark03 - 5850, Aquamark3 41.000, PC mark 2002 - cpu7020 mem8438 hdd1050.
Life was good and I loved my system
Then I decided it would be cool to upgrade to an acrylic case (which has better cooling with 3 fans) and a second 120 GB HDD to make a striped raid array.
My first concern was the raid Array. I was carefull to buy the exact same seagate hard drive, size etc. the original was only a month old anyway. The second was to use the intel southbridge chip for SATA RAID or the Promise controller? After researching these forums I decided to go with the Intel as it has more possible bandwidth and doesn't sit on the PCI bus.
I got the new case and wearing those stupid white gloves, proceeded to move the components over and trash my "old" metal case.
The windows NTFS format (full) flew by in 30 seconds and I was really impressed.
Once windows xp and all it's drivers and updates were installed, incl sound and graphics etc. I did a 3Dmark 2001 test before upgrading to Dx9...what a bad mark! 3Dmark2001SE - 9950 (terrible for this system).
    I thought it was a DX problem...so I installed Dx9
Then opened that corecenter program (the old one, the one that doesn't crash...)
and my CPU was about 5c hotter than usual, it was running at 40-42c (I have standard intel cooling fan). It went up to 55 at times when running PC mark 2002.
This didn't concern me too much a the system was stable at 32-34c and the northbridge read 60c (but we all know that's not true , more like 35ish.
    My PC mark 2002 is now cpu4200 - mem4800 - hdd1800
(at least the HDD improved!) LOL
    I ran Aquamark3 next...29,900 (ouch!)
Previously my CPU was 8,700 and GPU was 5300
now the CPU read 4400 and the GPU 4600
I don't really notice the speed loss when working, but games and benchmarks tell a different story.
So, My question: What has happened? Why is my CPU power cut in half? and the graphics card slightly slower? The memory speed stayed the same and the HDD speed improved....not a worthwhile upgrade IMO
    What went wrong?
    Here are my theories.
    1) The CPU and system case is getting too hot
Does the CPU "throttle" when it overheats? this could be the reason.
Also both HDD get really hot and the fan in front blows air over them, this hot air could be going over the CPU or GPU. Maybe get 2 HDD coolers?
should I buy a better CPU cooler like the Thermaltake spark7+ ?
    2) The PSU does not have enough watts
I couldn't find traces of voltage lack or spikes...but it could still be a problem
    3) The RAID0 array is a strain on the CPU and chipset
      I'm not sure about this.
My appologies for the lengthy thread, but I wanted to be sure that anyone trying to figure this out had as much info as possible
Thanks if u can help me figure this out.

Well, your temps sound allright, no need to worry them, if they really operate at that level.

The solution to set the FSB to 201Mhz sounds good. But do I set this in the BIOS or with Corecenter in windoze?
Propably meant to adust your FSB at BIOS, at least that is what I would suggest.

I will try to re-install the VGA drivers because something strange DID happen when I first installed them. I started with the hercules driver CD, this installed CAT 3.2 drivers. I then upgraded to CAT 3.7 and before it completed I got an error window (send, dont send).
Remove drivers AND ATI control panel first, and then re-install. Use drivers from ATI site, and rather Catalyst 3.7. I Have had problems with 3.8 Catalysts.

Still wouldn't explain why the CPU seems so crippled. I have managed to get a "normal cpu score of 7000+ in PCmark2002 by shutting down, restarting later and killing every process except explorer.
Do you have any processes that seem to eat more juice thant hey should?  Arrange your processes by CPU usage and see if there is something strange.

If this cant be fixed I will reinstall over the weekend. Does anyone know of the RAID0 array on the southbridge causing a system slowdown?
I'm using Intel RAID and it works perfectly, no extra CPU usage is shown and it's pleasantly fast!
And Install latest Intel INF updates and Application Accelerator from Intel site. That's what I'm using, and works fine.
