Webstart forgetting network settings

Hi, at work we're having our users run an app through webstart and due to a proxy we have the users setup to connect via a Direct Connection.
Our problem is that every time they reboot their computer, webstart is forgetting this setting (changing back to use Browser Settings) and we have to manually change it back to Direct Connection. Does anyone know how to make webstart remember this setting?

I forgot to mention a couple things. The users who are having this problem just installed java 1.5 and it stopped remembering setting then. Any help would really be appreciated.

  • IMac forgets Network settings.

I'm running two Macs -- an iMac and a Mac Mini -- networked through Airport Extreme and a cable router to the Internet.
Whenever a user on one on one of the computers logs off, the network connection is dropped. The computer forgets it's on an Airport connection, and I have to use diagnostics or the network pane of System Preferences to reconnect. Even if I "lock" the settings in the bottom left corner of the network pane, the network setup is forgotten if the user logs out and comes back, of if users switch among themselves (and the lock is magically unlocked).
This behavior is new. It had been maintaining the Internet connection regardless of user changes until just a couple of weeks ago.
    Any suggestions will be welcome.
    Thank you.

Wow! This si exactly the topic I was looking for!
As it happens, I've been having the exact same problem for a while now.
My iMac very regularly "forgets" its setting and when I use diagnostic to sort the problem out, it then warns me that my settings have been modified. Even when I click on the padlock, it makes no difference. As a matter of fact, I sometimes find the padlock has "unlocked itself" which I find somewhat worrying to be honest.
What is funny is that if I start up the iMac with the screen where you choose the user, or une another user, it works fine, so I'm guessing there is something in my personal user file and/or settings causing this.
This was a problem back on Tiger and has just reappeared under Leopard.
On the other hand, my old iBook has never had even the merest hint of a problem and happily connects everytime without fail.
So any hep would be hugely appreciated.
    Cheers

  • WRT54G v.6 - Vista forgetting Network settings but not on XP? - help please :)

Hello everyone! I hope someone can shed a bit of light on this, it's driving me crazy!
I am using a WRT54G v.6 and Vista Ultimate and a dual-boot with XP on my desktop computer. I also have a laptop with Vista Home Premium. I have cable internet. Here's the thing:
Sometime ago I lost my internet connection. A friend with the same router told me to unplug the router for a day and that it'll do the trick. It did... partially.
I pluged it, inserted the installation CD (please keep in mind that I have no router knowledge at all) and everything went fine, until I shut down my computer. At the moment I had connected the desktop and laptop. When I turned the desktop on with Vista, it could not connect to the internet, although the laptop had no problems at all.
I connected the modem directly to my computer and internet was fine, but if I plug it back to the router, nothing happens. So, I had to do the same thing again: unplug for a day, restart the settings and it's a go. I've done that so many times it's not funny anymore
If I put my computer into hybernation, the router/vista works fine, but if i shut it down, I lose my internet connection on Vista.
Has anyone dealt with these before? I'd really appreciate your help, and sorry for the long post
    Edit:
Right now I had to install an update on my desktop. First, I intalled the recent firmware upgrade, reset all settings again and configured the router. Everything was fine. I installed the Windows update, had to reboot and bam! I lost my connection. I'm on the laptop right now.
I can't even access the router on my desktop via 192.168.1.1. I have a limited or no connectivity message. It appears I have 2 networks, both public (I also tried private and nothing). I don't have internet access on none of them, although I did have before rebooting the computer). I don't have the warning icon anymore, tho.
I tried to merge/delete the connections and it "appears" as one of them was deleted, but it's still there. It says: Network 2 (the name of the network) it's in use, and under type says: unmanaged. But still no internet connection on that computer.
After some minutes, I was able to access the router via 192.168.1.1, but still no internet...

Hello Klatch! Thanks for your reply!
Well, thing is that it used to work before. Of course, I'll definately check if an update is available
All these issues began maybe a month or 2 ago. Everything was working flawlessly. One time, I lost my connection and that's where everything got messed up.
My main problem is that I get this "Unidentified Network" in the network and sharing center that seems to be causing the problem, as far as I know.
I connect the router and get the Unidientified Network icon, plus another one. I deleted one, but it was still there. Even if I try to merge them, nothing happens.
I even connected the modem directly and could not connect to the internet for some time, because Vista was still looking for the previous setting (back when the router was working). I had to unplug the modem several times, reboot, etc. I tried so many things that I lost track of what made the computer work again :lol.
I tried to connect the router last night and nothing. The only thing that seems to work is unplugging the router for a long time/resetting it, then Vista will make the connection, but if I restart, the internet it's gone.Message Edited by jt001 on 04-05-200705:31 AM

  • Will you please help me? ipad will not reset "network settings" or forget network!

My ipad will not connect to WiFi although my laptop does. When I try to reset network settings the old settings reappear. It will not "forget this network". What do i need to do next?

I don't fully understand what the System Reset does but I've found that it cures many ills.  It's easy, quick and harmless:
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.
A System Reset does not remove any apps, music, movies, etc. nor does it cause any settings to revert back to default.
Also, you might wish to download the iPad-2 User Guide.  Pay special attention to page 162.  Note that this Guide also applies to the iPad-1 with IOS 4.3 except for those functions that are not supported by the hardware.
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipad
Finally,  the User Guide can be downloaded at no charge via iBooks and a less   comprehensive version of the Guide is included as a Safari bookmark.

  • Can no longer connect to my network and 'forget network' option has disappeared??

Can no longer connect to my network and "forget network" option has disappeared???  (Ipod touch 5th generation). This happened on both my children's ipods. We have reset network settings but it doesn't help.

Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.

Sorry Mindi, also have your tried rebooting your router? That's all. Try that before you attempt to Restore. Cheers.

  • My wifi wasn't working for more than 10 minutes at a time after updating to IOS8 and resetting network settings. I turned off google drive, turned off Bluetooth, reset network settings and rebooted my iPad4. So far so good.

I have an ipad4.  Wifi keeps cutting out after the upgrade even after I forget the network and resign on or reset all network settings. I deleted iCloud drive from my iPad, turned off Bluetooth, reset network settings, and rebooted my iPad. Since I upgraded to IOS8 this is the longest wifi has consistently been working for me. Which is approximately an hour now. Anyone else find that this worked or have figured out if this or anything out there is a permanent fix?

    Hi CollinGCC78,
It sounds like you have been on the right track in troubleshooting this issue. If you are still having issues, you may want to double-check the steps outlined in the following article, in order if possible (apologies for replicating any steps you have already taken):

  • Iphone4s no longer connecting to wifi and missing network settings

Earlier today I was using Wi-Fi at work then I went outside and the Wi-Fi went off. I was using the Wi-Fi on my iPhone 4s. When I came back inside it did not automatically go to the Wi-Fi I had to sign in and use the password it kept spinning and spinning and spinning it would never sign it at that time. I tried to forget the network reset the phone do all these things it never would sign into the network again I could never get back on Wi-Fi at work.  Then I came home and my phone used to automatically attach to my home network so it did not and I had to use my home password and it gave the message unable to join network.  So I tried to sign in manually and renew the lease but there was no renew the lease button. So then I was going to try to forget the network and start over but there was no forget the network button. So I tried to reset the network settings and that did not change anything there was still no renew the lease button nor forget this network butto I still cannot sign into my home Wi-Fi

Reboot your router by unplugging it for 30-60 seconds, then try again.

  • Cannot connect to wifi, cannot change network settings [SOLVED]

    Asus EeePC.
    lspci -k shows
Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 adapter is the hardware, and appears to be working. Kernel driver in use is bcma-pci-bridge
In Gnome, Wi-Fi status shows "not connected"
"Select Network" shows a list of available APs, I click on ours which is set up as WPA2 PSK. Click Connect. Nothing happens. At all, no dialog for password, no attempt to connect seems to be processed by the computer. This happens with open networks as well (coffee shop or whatever). Click connect but nothing further happens.
From the applet I can't even seem to be able to "Turn off" the WiFi at all.
From within Wi-Fi settings in the applet, I can see a list of available access points but clicking on them does nothing. There is no available way for any user input, although I can click the toggle to turn off Wi-Fi from within there.
I can't forget networks in my history here either: click "History" and I can see a long list of previous networks. I can check box for them all and say "forget" but then they're back when I open the history again.
So it seems like my NetworkManager is just simply not working. Can't change the current state of "not connected" to anything at all.
When I attempt to connect using Wifi-menu I get:
    Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant
    >WPA Authentication/Association Failed {FAIL}
When I attempt to connect to any network. It never asks for password.
    Gnome-Keyring is installed.
    Netctl is NOT installed.
NetworkManager is installed and running according to systemctl
I've been running this Arch install on this machine for two years. This is not a new install problem. No hardware can be changed on this machine, so it's not hardware related (unless the wireless device itself crapped out).
Possibly related, I cannot shutdown the machine from within Gnome. I have to "sudo shutdown -h now" from a terminal. Seems to hibernate/sleep properly when the lid is closed though.
All of the results of searching on this indicate usually the problem is multiple network config softwares installed at the same time, like netctl and networkmanager together. Or not having a keyring manager installed That is not the case here unless it is one of those that is broken, but they don't seem to be.
I have no access to any wired connection at the moment at all, so I can't download anything to this computer at the moment. There's gotta be a way to get wifi working again, as it was just working last week. Haven't even done a pacman upgrade between when it last worked and when it stopped working.

I did mention the hardware is a Broadcom BCM4313
It may have been an issue with the Broadcom not working with iw. Not sure, as I haven't really changed things on this machine much (it's my wife's and I regularly update it but don't fuss with it much beyond "get it to work"). Like I said, the install is 2 years old, so compatibility may have even changed since I initially set it up.
I'm currently at work and without direct access to the computer in question. So I'll get those results later tonight.

  • My iPad says I am connected to wifi, but the internet won't work. I have tried turning wifi on/off and also resetting the network settings. Help!

The past two days my iPad mini has not been working with the wifi at my house. There is also and iPhone 5 and an iPad air that are working perfectly fine. I don't know what to do

Try forgetting the network, reboot your iPad and then try joining the network again.
Settings>WiFi>Your network name>Forget this network. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Go back to Settings>WiFi>Your network name>Enter your password>Tap Join.
If that doesn't work, reset network settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. Reboot the iPad again. Go back to Settings>WiFi>Your network name>Enter your password>Tap join.

  • Wi-Fi doesn't give Auto-Join or Forget Network options

Is this normal for iOS 5.1? If I go out of range or turn my WiFi off, and then come in range/turn wifi on, it won't autoconnect and I have to re-input the password. When I hit the blue arrow next to the connected network, it doesn't give me a Forget Network button or and Auto-Join switch. This is really annoying and I've restored/reset Network options plenty of times to no avail.

    Possibly found a solution...
I unplugged the router for a few seconds (I've tried this before) and then plugged it back in. Then I reset my network settings on the iPod. Then I manually logged into my network via the "Join Other Network" option in WiFi. I still don't have an "Auto-Join" Switch, but I have the Forget This Network button and when I turned WiFi off then on again, it reconnected automatically.

  • I have tried everything possible. tried resetting my network settings and even the whole phone but my phone wouldn't connect to my wifi at home but will connect to other wifi's when i'm out. my sisters both have the same iphone and theirs work perfectly.

My iPhone wouldn't connect to my wifi at home but connects to others when i go out. i have tried resetting my whole phone and network settings but still wouldn't work. Everyone in my house has an iPhone and theirs work perfectly. I need help. it randomly started working yesterday after not connecting for 4 days and suddenly it stopped working again today

The two things to try first are renewing your network lease, forgetting the network and if that doesn't work to reset all networks. You might have tried one of these but I'll repeat the steps just to make sure.
Settings > Wi-Fi > tap the blue arrow to the right of your network name > Renew Lease
    If that doesn't work then
Settings > Wi-Fi > tap the blue arrow to the right of your network name > Forget this Network
    If that doesn't work
Settings > General > Networks > Reset All Networks > then reset your iPhone by
Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.
I hope one of these will help.

  • Why does my ipad not have a renew lease button or a forget network button? it's a first generation i think

Honestly, I'm at my wits end I've been trying EVERYTHING to get a wifi connection: I reset my network settings TWICE and reset my router and checked to see if my password was put in properly. This issue happened after my charger for my Ipad broke and I had to leave it dead for at the LEAST six months. During this time we lost our old network connection because it became unsecure and now anyone can use it so we got a new connection and it requires a password I have the password and evertime i put it in it refuses to work! Mind you my ipad never had an issue connecting to our old network that required a password (well used to). Ever since i charged it again for the first time in a long time it has only connected to the old network that is pretty much dormant and is a complete waste of time since it doesn't work right and now whats making me frustrated is that it won't connect to the old one either after i reset my network and it DOESN'T even need a password! like I really want to cry....I really need help with this.

It doesnt have renew lease or forget network button either.

  • Windows 8 / IE11 forget proxy settings applied by GPO on reboot

I've just about run out of ideas here on what may be causing this. I've toyed with policies quite often, but never ran into this problem before.
Windows 8 with IE11. While there are GPO's active on the system, the settings are kept free to alter by the user if need be. We use a proxy, so I'm required to provide the proxy and the exceptions in a policy to the PC's to make sure they work under normal
conditions. I added a couple of settings in the GPP (Group Policy Preferences) with the correct settings, enabled these settings (green lines) and tested these on a test system. They work fine, I get my proxy settings pushed through.
Then we get to the rollout on the systems that are affected (not that many, just 10 accounts total, all in nearby rooms). I can run a gpupdate /force to reload the settings, and can confirm the proxy settings are applied properly. So the policy itself seems
sound also on the workplaces it needs to be active on. Users still have the option to change the proxy settings on their own discretion, but that's exactly what we want to happen.
Now we run into the problem that when part of these PC's are rebooted, the PC somehow seems to decide the proxy isn't worth its time anymore, and kills all settings for the proxy back to default. Either that, or it just switches the proxy off. Running a
gpupdate /force reapplies the policy and everything starts working again, but WHY is Windows 8 / IE11 adament about forgetting these settings?
The really maddening thing is that on a couple of PC's with Windows 8 and IE11 (and the same policies applied) it isn't a problem and the proxy remains filled in, as I would expect from GPO's. These include my test system, which makes me unable to replicate
    the problem and test locally.
I've tried enhancing the policy with using a forced wait for the network to become available) aswell as a forced logonscript run on boot instead the standard 'after 5 minutes'. Find these under 'Computer Configuration - Policy - Administrative Templates
    - System - Logon' and 'Computer Configuration - Policy - Administrative Templates - System - Group Policy'. Neither setting seems to work tho. I've also tried going with a Computer Configuration Startup script in which I just request to run 'gpupdate' with
the '/force' as the switches. But this also seems not to do anything.
In short: Does anyone know why Windows 8 / IE11 falls back to something outside the scope of policies, while it accepts the forced policy update with the correct settings when 'gpupdate /force' is issued manually afterwards? And has anyone any idea what
I can do to make sure the policy is applied regardless of what Windows 8 / IE11 thinks it should be?

Just had a go with that... Found out that when I login and refresh the polciy using gpupdate /force, the proxy settings are filled in properly.
Once I reboot tho, the proxy switches itself off (the entries regarding the proxyname and such remain, as does the 'bypass for local addresses, but it's all grayed out). Once I switch the proxy back on, and check under 'Advanced', I find everything in order,
except for the exclusion list which is emptied.
So I forced the gpupdate, verified that the proxy was switched on, and the exclusion list was populated. I then restarted the PC, only to find that above situation (proxy switched off, and exclusionlist empty) had reasserted itself.
Waited a bit and did a forced policy update again. Then verified the logged files (which was just User.txt).
After anonymizing the output a bit, I copied the contents to
http://pastebin.com/YyWswW83 for your review. It looks like it contains 3 batches of GP updates.
The one at 13:20 is likely the primary one in which I forced the GPUpdate. The one at 13:22 is the one issued on the restart of the computer, while the one at 13:24 is the (once again) forced gpupdate.
From my understanding it seems as if the no-change of GPO detection works, but also causes it to skip the policy. Tho I admit that's speculation on my part. Any and all light you (or anyone else) may be able to shine on this, will be greatly appreciated.

  • Restore Network Settings/Can't Access Internet?

Hello. Really hoping someone can help me out here. Long story short: I had accountability software on my computer and it didn't seem to be functioning properly, so I tried troubleshooting it myself. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with it so I decided to try installing it again. In my haste, I (foolishly?) deleted the program from my hard drive without first uninstalling it. Now it seems to have placed a stranglehold on my ability to access the Internet: every webpage comes up with either "this webpage is not available" or "this website has been blocked by [accountability software]."
What do I do? I've tried running diagnostics and checking my network settings and everything *appears* in order (but I am a novice at some of the more advanced troubleshooting stuff), and I even attempted a command+r reboot last night in the hopes that it would somehow wipe any traces of this program from my computer. Alas, nothing.
Is there anything else I'm forgetting? Honestly what can I do to just get rid of this program and regain Internet access?

Are you able to access the internet while started in Safe Mode ?.
If so, download the uninstaller; or reinstall & use the built-in one, if that's what the developer says is required. There may also be manual removal instructions online somewhere.
