Webutil and local printers / ports

Hi,
is there a way in Webutil to use local printers installed in Windows? I want to specify wich printer to use, and to write or spool to that printer (e.g. a bar-code printer).
Other question is: how to communicate (in a webform) with a local port in the client (serial or parallel). We need this because we have precision balances and other instruments interfaced.
Thx
Gabor

Gabor,
no there is no local printer support in webutil as far as I know. You can obtain a list of local printers through a Java Bean that you can write and add to the Forms client. The Java 2 development kit contains a print API that can be used to get the names of installed printers (make sure the bean file is signed)
The same for serial ports: You have to write a Java Bean and sign the jar files. You can talk to serial ports with Java and to my understanding this is documented on www.javasoft.com

  • SAPSPRINT vs Local Printers (Pro and Cons)

    Hi guys.
    Anyone can help me out citing pro and cons by installing a SAPSPRINT over windows vs having printers installed directy over the Iseries Server.
    Its planned to install productive printers which are very critical, so we would like to devise the best approach.
    By installing the SAPSPRINT would avoid the bottlenecks if the printers are installed locally?
    Thanks!

    Hi Markus, nice to see you.
    I agree with the fact that a central print server you can have a better administration of your printers.
    My concern is that based on Note 19706 - Tuning the Spooler, productive printers must never be defined with access type U or S, and all printers created on that print server are type U, which is the recommended access method for remote printers.
    Group 1 (Productive printer):
    All printers with the shortest possible response time.
    For example: Goods receipt/issue sheets, delivery notes, patient entry sheets,...
    Printers with a fast response (Group 1):
    Devices with short response times must NEVER be defined with access type 'U' or 'S'. When a problem occurs (e.g. network problems, PC is switched off etc.), a single printer linked to a work process by access type 'U' disturbs all the connected printers. All printers in this group MUST be linked with access type 'L' or 'C' (depending on the operating system). If they are not linked to the server, they must be defined in the host spooler as "remote printers" and forwarded via the the host spooler.
    So why this note recommends to put printers locally in order avoid network issues and so on, but SAP also recommends a SAPSPRINT as printing solution?
    Does SAPSPRINT overrule any recommendation to local printers and is a definite solution way better than local printing?
    Thanks Markus again

  • Trying to connect 2 mac mini's as a network, and sharing printers

    Hello to all. Please help me as I'm a newbie on these Mac mini's. I am trying to create a network between the two mini's and I would like to share files between them and be able to print from the upstairs mini to the printers hooked up to the downstairs mini.
    Mini 1 (downstairs) has 2 printers attached directly, a HP color laserjet and a Epson 800 Artisan
    Mini 2 (upstairs)
    Mini 1 and mini 2 are both connected via ethernet to the Netgear router.
    Here is my problem:
    on the mini 1, I can print and even access the mini 2 via sharing. I can screen share and view folders that is on the mini 2.
    However, from the mini 2 computer, I cannot get the screen share and folder sharing from the mini 1 computer. I show that it is there, but when I try to connect, I get a message that states: CONNECTION FAILED The server may no exist or it is not operation at this time. Check the server name or ip address and your network connection and try again.
    On the mini 2 I also cannot get anything to print. It doesn't even show that the printers that are supposedly shared at the other computer are present. I tried to add them, via default icon or even ip from the print and fax preferences, but I get error messages and cannot print.
    ON THE mini 2: When I used the 'default printer' icon, both of my printers showed up using bonjour shared and I 'added' them. But when I tried to print, I got a message stating:
    *Connecting to downstairs-mac-mini.local on port 631...*
    *Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds....*
    I deleted both printers as bonjour shared and tried to make the printers an ip internet shared, and put in the ip address xxx.xxx.1.2 (mini 1 ip address) but I got a message saying that that ip address was being used. I changed the ip address to xxx.xxx.1.5 (mini 2 ip address) and it looked like it was going to print, but it automatically goes to pause. (doesn't matter which printer it is, I can't print from either. I never did get either of the printers to work on mini 2.
    I have done the following: On the mini 1, the printers are marked shared. On both computers the shared folders are marked shared, along with screen sharing. I also added all files on both computers to be shared as to who can read only or read and write.
    Also, I have also gone to the 'system' icon and on internet sharing, I have made both computers to be shared, with the appropriate check marks done on the list of services I want shared.
    ON both the mini 1 and mini 2 I have set the network to XXXXX Home and it automatically configured and states that my ethernet is connected.
    On the downstairs computer, I can see the 'shared computer, and am able to access the files.
    BUT on the other computer upstairs, I do see the downstairs computer, but it fails in the connection.
    I noticed that the ip address for each computers state the same number, except the last digit is different. xxx.xxx.1.2 for the downstairs mini and xxx.xxx.1.5 for the upstairs mini. The router number and dns server along with the subnet mask are the same numbers between both of the computers.
    I am going to set the power settings NOT to sleep when idle so that might help when I am trying to view files on each mini's.
    So right now I am stuck with how to make the upstairs mini to print on the downstairs printers, and how to see the downstairs mini on the upstairs mini display.
    Any help from anyone is very much appreciated. Sorry this is so long. Thanks in advance!

    Mini 1 Allow only essential services
    Mini 2 Allow all incoming connections
    I changed mini 1 to allow all incoming connections
    That did the trick for viewing, now will that help me on my printer issue also? YES! wahoo! Thanks so much, I would have not thought about checking the firewall.
    Kudos to you and all your help!

  • Webutil and time to open a form from server (forms ver 10.1.2.0.2)

    Hi,
    we have an application which uses webutil in some forms and 50 users in a lan with microsoft I.E. browser xp (patch 2 or 3) .
    All the users when run url of forms without webutil have the same time to open the applications, instead when the forms use webutil 5 users have to wait long time before to access to the application (after all works fine and fast)
    For others users (45) the time is the same.
    Besides we install in one of these problematic client the developer suite to try the local A.S. and we wonder that the forms with webutil open quickly in local pc.
    Therefore we have 50 clients and :
    -- 50 clients open quickly the forms without webutil in the lan .
    -- 45 clients open quickly also the forms with webutil in the lan
    -- 5 clients open very slowly the forms with webutil in the lan (after they work fine) and they open quickly the same forms with webutil in local AS (devsuite) . They use I.E. 7 and have patch 3 of xp
    We tried to disable antivirus,microsoft firewall but nothing has changed .
    What could be the problem ?

  • Webutil and XP

    Hi,
    We have a form in which we use the call web.show_document(l_url, '_blank'), where l_url is a location of an html file on a local pc. Then in a
    seperate browser the html file is shown.This works fine for our application.
    Now some users are migrated to XP as OS, instead if 2000.. For these users no webbrowser is started after the call to show_document. In the
    javaconsole is also no error seen. It is just that nothing happens.
    In IE and Firefox this problem occurs.
    Is there an issue between webutil and XP? Or is this a different kind of problem?
    Richard

    Thx for quick reply..
    We tried it.. But, problem keeps existing...
    We also tried XP and IE6... again no browser appears ...

  • AIR-CAP702W local ethernet ports

    Hi all,
    The new AIR-CAP702W AP have 4 10/100/1000Base-T local Ethernet ports.
    On the data-sheet it's written "for wired devices connectivity".
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/aironet-700-series/data_sheet_c78-728968.html
    That's very good, but how do we manage the traffic on these ports?
    Are we able to configure theses ports in access-mode with different VLAN-IDs?
    So in that case the uplink of the AP should be in trunk-mode.
    And where do we configure the ports of the AP, on the WLC?
    Or is the traffic from the devices connected into these ports encapsulated into CAPWAP tunnel, like the wireless data traffic, and is terminated into the WLC(s)?
    In that case, can we choose what port is associated to what VLAN/SSID on the WLC?
    Or something else maybe?
    Thank you for your help.
    Jerome

    The 4 x 10/100/1000BASE-T local Ethernet ports support half and full duplex mode, auto-negotiation, and MDI/MDIX Auto-Sensing. Devices you connect must support auto negotiation if you connect with another mode, say hard configured speed and so on. The port may not be enabled and depending on the version of code, for example 7.6.100.120 the initial release, the ports are not managed.
    For now, (until more control is added in the software) all the LAN ports are locally switched, are mapped to the 702W VLAN, and do not appear on the Wireless LAN Controller or AP.
    Initially, the ports are disabled and may be enabled manually via CLI.
    This was done to minimize any security risks. Here are the CLI commands to enable the ports.
    (Cisco Controller)> config ap lan <port id> <enable/disable> <AP-NAME>
    (Cisco Controller)> show ap lan <port id> <AP-NAME>
    (Cisco Controller)> show ap lan port-summary <AP-NAME>
    Hope that helps.

  • Local printers not working with 2504 WLC

                       I have a 2504  WLC with 3 1262 WAPs in lightweight mode.
         Clients connect using WPA2 PSK AES with no problem.  Clients are Windows XP Home SP3.  Test pages end up in print queue and eventually get a error printing status.  Clients are not part of a domain and in a standalone workgroup - techstream.
    Printer can be pinged from wireless client.
    Another 1262N WAP in standalone mode connected to same lan from windows 7 sp1 clients have no problem printing to a local printer.
    What does work on the Windows XP Home client is connecting to a network shared printer authenticating with domain admin id and password and it works.  Reboot and the network shared printer can not connect multiple reasons are "access is denied" and message box says "only security tab will be displayed....."   Another Windows XP Home SP3 client on reboot can't open the network shared printer with message "Can't find printer"
    The local printers do work on these pc's with an old colubris router that has an outside interface on our lan and internal network with clients getting dhcp address from colubris router of 192.168.3.XXX  .
    What is wrong with the wireless 2504 WLC?
    Thanks
    Broadcast forwarding was enabled.

    Although a cisco tech support was helpful in making sure multicasting was enabled and a multicast server defined, the problem was at the CP2025DN printer. It had old network ip mask and gateway configured on the printer.
    The new devices were part of the new network configuration (Mask and gateway had changed). I didn’t change that printer when I changed all the other printers at the facility because it was still active thru the old wireless network. I forgot to change the printer ip config when I brought the new wap on the new wireless network with the wlc 2504.
    End result was the clients were part of a different subnet and gateway configuration then the printer and this disrupted the communication between clients and the printer. Once I corrected the mask and gateway on the printer to be the same as the dhcp scope of the wireless network, communication and printing worked.
    Problem solved.  User error

    Hello:
    Id like present this problem to yours:
    I am executing two files Client/Server into my own PC, using two DOS console different, this one to Client an another to Server.
    I got this error:

    Well, 1.1.9.147 is the IP address of my PC.
    So, Whats the problem?
    If you need of the rest of code, please say me.
    Thanks.
    Angel.

    Well, I am agree with you, but I have this code in the Transmit File (Server):
    * Use the RTPManager API to create sessions for each media track of the processor.
    private String createTransmitter() {
         // Cheated. Should have checked the type.
         PushBufferDataSource pbds = (PushBufferDataSource)dataOutput;
         PushBufferStream pbss[] = pbds.getStreams();
         rtpMgrs = new RTPManager[pbss.length];
         SessionAddress localAddr, destAddr;
         InetAddress ipAddr;
         SendStream sendStream;
         int port;
         SourceDescription srcDesList[];
         for (int i = 0; i < pbss.length; i++) {
         try {
              rtpMgrs[i] = RTPManager.newInstance();
    //The local session address will be created on the
    // same port as the the target port. This is necessary
    // if you use AVTransmit2 in conjunction with JMStudio.
    // JMStudio assumes - in a unicast session - that the
    // transmitter transmits from the same port it is receiving
    // on and sends RTCP Receiver Reports back to this port of
    // the transmitting host.
              port = portBase + 2*i;
              ipAddr = InetAddress.getByName(ipAddress);
              localAddr = new SessionAddress( InetAddress.getLocalHost(),
                                       port);
              destAddr = new SessionAddress( ipAddr,
                                  port);
              rtpMgrs.initialize( localAddr);
              rtpMgrs[i].addTarget( destAddr);
              System.err.println( "Created RTP session: " + ipAddress + " " + port);
              sendStream = rtpMgrs[i].createSendStream(dataOutput, i);
              sendStream.start();
         } catch (Exception e) {
              return e.getMessage();
         return null;
    When I use this Files (Client/Server), between diffrent PCs into LAN, eg, Client (One PC) and Server (Another PC), but I used:
    This One PC: (IP Address PC = 1.1.9.150)
    C:\run\ex14\java AVTransmit2 file:/c:/run/format/audrip.au 1.1.9.147 45300
    Another PC:(IP Address PC = 1.1.9.147)
    C:\run\ex14\java AVReceive2 1.1.9.147/45300
    Thats work right!
    So, whats happen?

  • Help me ! "can not open local data port"

    I have successfully ended the previous transmit,but wen I began a new transmit,it failed. It printed "can't open local data port ",why?
    Is it telling that the port is still in use???
    And how can I solve this problem?
    Anyone help me?
    Thanks very much,
    yyc

    Hi,
    this problem occurs when You try to open the same port twice time, You can solve it by opening other port.

  • Cannot create the RTP Session: Can't open local data port

    Hi,
    I'm trying to connect to two webcams simultaneously in the order:
    MediaLocator inputLocator1 = new MediaLocator("rtp://hostname1:8000/video");
    MediaLocator inputLocator2 = new MediaLocator("rtp://hostname2:8000/video");
    But I get this during the second connection:
    Cannot create the RTP Session: Can't open local data port: 8000
    And I can't see the video from hostname2.
    I did a check via netstat, and it seems that both mycomputer is receiving the video from both hostname1 & hostname2:
    TCP mycomputer:3236 hostname1:8000 ESTABLISHED
    TCP mycomputer:3264 hostname2:8000 ESTABLISHED
    TCP connections to both host were established!! But why can't I see the video of hostname2???? I've thought of 2 possible reasons why I cannot see the video of hostname2:
    1. Is this set of local data port maintained by Java? i.e It's not the same as the TCP port 8000 that I see in mycomputer's netstat. If yes, Java has assigned its local data port 8000 to hostname1, so it fails to reassign that port 8000 to hostname2 while hostname1 is still connected. Any other way to fix this apart from changing the portnumber of hostname2?
    2. It has to do with the custom.jar? I've read in an article somewhere in the forum that the custom.jar has to be customized (using JFMCustomizer) to receive video from two hosts with the same portnumber. Can someone elaborate the necessary boxes to check in the JFMCustomizer?
    Thanks much,
    Rach

    After all this while, I finally figured out the problem. In my code, I use MediaLocator to code the receiver and the transmitter. E.g.:
    MediaLocator inputLocator1 = new MediaLocator("rtp://hostname1:8000/video");
    player1 = Manager.createPlayer(inputLocator1)
    MediaLocator inputLocator2 = new MediaLocator("rtp://hostname2:8000/video");
    player2 = Manager.createPlayer(inputLocator2)
    Manager would complain "Cannot create the RTP Session: Can't open local data port: 8000" because port 8000 is already used up by player1, i.e.:
    mycomputer:8000 maps to hostname1:8000
    mycomputer:8000 cannot re-map to hostname2:8000
    To work around this, I'll need to use SessionAddress. SessionAddress provides the flexibility to do an independent local port mapping, e.g.:
    mycomputer:5000 maps to hostname1:8000
    mycomputer:5002 maps to hostname2:8000

  • SCAN  and local listener

    11.2/AIX
    To connect to a 11.2 RAC DB from outside the host, a SCAN Listener itself is not enough. Right? I need to have local listener running as well. Right ?

    Hi,
    Yes, you would need to configure independent local listeners for each node. SCAN listeners are not replacements for the node listeners.
    A new set of cluster processes called scan listeners will run on three nodes in a cluster (or all nodes if there are less than 3). If you have more than three nodes, regardless of the number of nodes you have, there will be at most three scan listeners. The database registers with the SCAN listener through the remote listener parameter in the init.ora/spfile. If any of these clustered processes fail, they are automatically restarted on a new node.
    How does SCAN work?
    “When a client submits a request, the SCAN listener listening on a SCAN IP address and the SCAN port is contracted on a client’s behalf. Because all services on the cluster are registered with the SCAN listener, the SCAN listener replies with the address of the local listener on the least-loaded node (Each scan listener keeps updated cluster load statistics) where the service is currently being offered. Finally, the client establishes connection to the service through the listener on the node where service is offered.All of these actions take place transparently to the client without any explicit configuration required in the client.”

  • ASA policy PAT and src/dst port considerations!!

    static (inside,outside) tcp 4.2.2.2 443 10.1.2.3 443 netmask 255.255.255.255
    What happens/is translated when a packet comes from the Internet destined for 4.2.2.2 with ..........
    A:Src tcp port 1025 and dst tcp port 443
    B: Src tcp port 443 and dst tcp port 1025
    and, in the reverse direction from 10.1.2.3 back towards the internet
    A:Src tcp port 1025 and dst tcp port 443
    B: Src tcp port 443 and dst tcp port 1025
    Or; does
    static (inside,outside) tcp 4.2.2.2 443 10.1.2.3 443 netmask 255.255.255.255 only affect packets with dst tcp port 443
    Or, my real question - will this policy NAT handle two way comms and in the manner TCP should work?

    What happens/is translated when a packet comes from the Internet destined for 4.2.2.2 with ..........
    A) the packet will be redirected to 10.1.2.3 on port 443
    B) The packet will be drop by the ASA as there is no port-forwarding for port 1025 ( just for 443)
    and, in the reverse direction from 10.1.2.3 back towards the internet
    A) Packet from  a higher security level to a higher is going to be allowed by default if you have the right translation
    B) The ASA will have already a entry on all of its table for this connection ( xlate,local-host and conn Table) so the traffic will be allowed without any inspection.
    static (inside,outside) tcp 4.2.2.2 443 10.1.2.3 443 netmask 255.255.255.255 only affect packets with dst tcp port 443
    Port-Forwarding is only for inbound connections, the outgoin packet for the same connection will hit this nat but if you start a new brand connection ( outbound) you will need a different nat

  • Reading digital line and local variable

    I am using digital lines in my program to start and stop "Flat Sequence Structures"
    like time measurement ( 4 sequence, start and stop time with "Tick Count" )
    Is it good behaviour if i use once "Read from Digital Line.vi" and other starts and stops etc. with Local variables?
    Or can i just use "Read from Digital Line.vi" many times in my VI? (same line)

    Most experienced LV programmers try to avoid both sequence structures and local (and global) variables. The state machine architecture is often preferred. Look at the examples with LV and search for "State machine" on this site.
    I would probably use one read line or read port VI in a loop and pass the data to other, independent loops for processing (the timing) via queues.

  • SPAM Quarantine and Local Quarantine

    Hi All,
    In my C670 I have enabled Enable Anti-Spam Scanning.
    For positively - Identified Spam Setting: I have choosen Action as SPAM QUARANTINE
    FOr Suspected SPAM Scanning: Spam Quarantine
    Now even though the above is done, I could see the email still goes to the Content Filter checks where in I have enabled the Local Quarantine.
    Does the emails are getting stored at both SPAM and LOCAL quarantine. This is done because I could see that Ceratin text has been added by the Iron port in the subject line while it identifies the spam and suspected spam and in the content filter we have a filetr monitoring the subject line.
    My question is why does an email which has been span quarantine still have to go for content filter check, unless an administrator defines so.
    Thanks

    please help. is it possible that if an email is already quarantined by spam engine then it wont go for filter check
