Week Old MacBook Air - Random Kernel Panics - NEED HELP!
Specs : MacBook Air 11" - i7 - 8GB RAM - 256 SSD
I have had this laptop for a little over a week now and continuously keep having KPs, what seem to be random and not tied to any specific program, just seems to happen while I am download a file from the internet. Frustrating because I can not even download the update form 10.8.0 -> 10.8.2!!!
I have done the following:
-Reset PRAM
-Reset SMC
-Restored from SCRATCH
-Disconnected all peripherals
-Tested RAM with memtest (OK)
-Tested HDD with DiskUtility (OK)
I would just bring it back to an Apple store, but I live in the Dominican Republic and picked it up while I was passing through Miami.
Below is the log form the most recent KP.
Please help!

After doing an extensive Hardware Test, I believe that I found the culprit. Looks like my "brand new" Macbook Air came with a faulty hdd. Seems to me as if Apple is starting to cut corners and be the Apple of old... Using their image to demand premium price and maximize profit while progressively using cheaper and cheaper parts within their products.
1. You clearly have no understanding of statistics and failure rate. Even a company with the most efficient and best products will have a certain rate of failure (even some products arriving dead on arrival), regardless of how much they do or do not spend on components and quality control.
2. Apple doesn't manfacture the hard drives.
3. How do you know how much they spend on parts?

the system report in my 3 weeks old macbook air says that there is no battery installed but my macbook has a built in battery
Try a SMC reset:

If no success, reinstall the OSX.
If still no success, contact Apple support. A new MBA has 90 days of free Apple support.

KPs often can be caused by faulty RAM.

My 2012 MacBook Air 13 kernel panics when its opened up from a sleep
My 2012 Macbook Air 13 (512/2.0ghz/8gb) crashes (kernel panic) after the SMC update. It crashes when you open it after it has been sleeping for about 8 hours. It does this after it sits for about 8 hours closed (sleeping) on battery and while plugged in. It is easy to replicate, it happens every day when I come in to work and then when I open it to work in the evening. I have submitted the crash report to Apple each time it happens and explained the circumstances which caused it to crash. Anyone else having this issue? I'm on 10.8 and applied the recent SMC update. It never did this on Lion (what it shipped with).
Are there any power nap logs I can check to see if that is causing the issue? Can I disable power nap to try that?im having the same issue as you zaze. my march 2012 macbook air hang every single time when it try to wake up from sleep mode. it started to happen after i upgrade to mountain lion and then the smc update. i believe is the smc update[power nap specifically] issue, because before that patch the Mountain Lion OS is doing fine[i update the smc patch a week after it was release so i'm pretty sure is tht smc patch issue.
tire of playing around with the config, on this and off tht, it does not help at all and still hang[keyboard not responding , screen hang, sometimes cursur can move but it can do nothing with it].
i need to go through this multiple times a day until i so fed up that i change sleep mode to kick in after it idle for 1 hour. -
I have no sound from my 6 week old Macbook Air any help??
Need some help, my Macbook Air does not have sound, have tried switch everything off and on. Tried head phones nothing, disabled energy saver etc. Not impressed with this Mac had a sony for 6 year and no a bit of bother. Stuck on a platform in the persian Gulf so no communication with family at home on facetime Thanks a lot APPLE!!!!!!
did you put your Air to sleep with headphones attached, or closed the monitor with phones attached?
Do not sleep your Air (close the monitor with headphones attached) with headphones attached, this is known to affect some Air under Mavericks.
* this occurrence is being looked into.
Much testing on my own and others as well show that, in some instances, this occurs in Mavericks.
If you choose you may contact Apple for an appt and diagnostics.
However as said, refrain from having phones attached when you close the monitor to prevent this until it is resolved
SMC reset and re verify
SMC reset
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC. -
Two-week old MacBook Air is dead
I bought the completely maxed out 11-inch MacBook Air for my wife on Monday, Aug. 8. This came a few days after the hard drive in my Rev A MacBook Air died for the third time and needed to be replaced and after the hard drive in her 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro failed that morning.
She's loved the machine until tonight. She has it hooked up to the Apple 30-inch monitor. At about 7 p.m., we wanted to test AirDrop. She wasn't seeing my iMac and I wasn't seeing her Air from where they are, at opposite ends of the house. So she unhooked her Air and brought it to me. We saw each other and I sent her a picture via AirDrop.
I then took the computer back and put it into its place. I walked away and it was working fine. A half-hour later, she came back and said to me, "What did you do to my computer? It's not working." And sure enough, it was dead. Completely dead.
When I unhooked it, I noticed that the battery was fully charged. And when it was dead, I could see the green MagSafe Lite glowing. I hooked it to a different MagSafe in a different outlet and nothing.
I tried to start holding Option, as well as Command-R, but got no response.
It's very disconcerting. Anyone have any thoughts?KevinIole wrote:
... what he did was to remove the hard drive from the Air I had purchased, and put it into a new Air, same make, model, etc.
A local Apple Store did the same for me when I had a faulty logic board on my MBP a few years ago. I was not able to perform a backup, as the unit would only work for 15 minutes or so into each backup attempt before it would shutdown. The good guys there swapped my hard drive into a new unit, and life was good.
I have been a loyal Apple customer, ever since (bought 3 more Macs after that). -
My MacBook Air is barely a month and it suddenly shuts down way slower than it used to. It used to take just 3 seconds. I do not have much installed, except for an HP Printer and the MS Office suite. It shut down just as fast even after I installed them.. I noticed it shut down at least about 10 seconds sometime after I updated the software yesterday to Mac OS X version 10.7.1. Is this nornal? I would prefer the snappier shut down process.:-(

Repeating kernel panics, need help.
Okay, since today my Mac is totally unstable. It randomly freezes, won't wake up from sleep mode. I have seen different forms of kernel panics in the last hour, one with the "Please restart your computer" and another one where I could see lines describing the panic on the screen, just like in SUM.
It gets even stranger. When I restarted it like I was told (Holding down the power button) it didn't boot properly, instead the screen went for red to green to blue, then all three mixed in three different ways. It was like an acid trip. I waited, but it kept on repeating, so I held the power button for another 3 seconds. This time it booted properly, yet froze at the login screen. Next try, I could log back into OS X.
Here's the description of the panic:

Oh, and another thing, I can't boot from DVD/CD anymore.
Someone please help me, since I need the iBook tomorrow at school.
iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.5) 60 Gb HD, 768 Mb Ram, Radeon 9200Scalepet,
This kind of thing happened to my brother's computer once; though, his was a blue & white G3 PowerMac with Panther. But that's not to specific to what I think may be the problem.
Kernal panics, when they're this frequent and rarely allow you to completely boot and log in, are usually a sign of very, very bad hardware. When hardware goes corrupt-which it does-Mac OS X basically freaks out during the power-on self diagnostic.
Solution? Start removing hardware. No, I don't mean grab the Alan Wrench and start removing the GPU and Optical Drive; I mean removing hardware that you were able to add; basically, stuff that didn't roll out of the factory in your computer.
Seeing as you have an iBook, this option is somewhat limited. But the kernal report is showing that you have 768MB RAM, which means that you have upgraded your RAM. So, lift up the keyboard, get to the RAM, and remove the extra chip; I think that may be what's causing the meltdown. If not, try the Airport Extreme card, if you have one. Also, your external hardware--USB mice, for example--should be unplugged.
Best of luck,

Lot's of Kernel Panics Need Help
Hello every one,
I have the late 2008 Macbook pro (2,8ghz), And I have almost every day a Kernel Panic, first I want to say that I have checked the Hardware with the Cd nothing is wrong, and also I have repair all the autorisations.
Apparently the kernel panics always Occur while using eyetv (eyetv diversity with eyetv 3.0.4 ). It occur almost at any moment, sometimes even when I am not in from of my computer...
But I have been using Eyetv for years on my older computer, and I never had a kernel panic...
Am I the only one? Do you suffer from the same problem?
Do you have any idea for me to stop the kernel panic to occur?
Thank You!
If this can help you here are the 2 last Kernel panic Log I had.

Week old Macbook Air 2014 won't recognize SD card? At all?
I just bought my first apple computer, and I'm still adjusting to this whole mac thing, but my mac air won't recognize my fully functioning SD card? My PC could read it however.
Is there a program am I supposed to download or something? I made sure the SD card is unlocked and someone even told me to blow in the slot and I did and had someone laugh at me...
I don't know if this is useful info but it's a SanDisk SDHC 32gb card. I'm travelling in like a week and seriously need to empty out my SD card on my laptop. Thank you. Then I would try a different brand of card. If you still have a problem, then I would make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. Or switch to USB flash drives.

My first kernel panic -- on my 3 week old MacBook
I just had my first kernel panic -- on my 3 week old MacBook. I just downloaded CoconutBattery last night. Do you think that could've caused this? To add insult to injury, I just called Apple, and Apple Care is already closed at 5:20 PST. Lame.
Here's the log. Does anyone have any suggestions on what may have caused this? thanks

Random Kernel Panics (NEW MacBook Pro)
I bought my MacBook Pro new on August 18, 2010. Around christmas time, I started having random Kernel Panics, which forced me to take it to my local apple store. They ran tests, and said nothing was physically wrong. They restored my system completely. Now, about a month later, they're back again. What is my problem?
here's the most recent panic log:
