Weird artifacting/interface failure on screen

I've had my AppleTV for two months -- no complaints. But now if I'm playing an album and decide to "go up" from the album view, the prior screen REMAINS on the screen. Or, if I'm playing a show on HuluPlus and decide to leave to "main menu", the episode will continue to play behind the AppleTV main screen. Weird! It happens regularly, but not all the time.
The only change I've made recently is to move from Ethernet hook-up to Wifi of the AppleTV. It's the only change I can think of.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
    1.    Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
    2.    Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    3.    Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    4.    Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
    5.    Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

  • What am i missing? (weird artifacts in terminal)

I dont really know how to describe this too well, so i've upload screen shots for comparison. One of my systems seems to display weird artifacts in place of what would normally be straight lines. This causes problems with lots of things not aligning properly, and it also looks really ugly.
I use the same programs on both computers, and i dont recall doing or installing anything special on the system that works fine. With some programs I will only have issues if im using screen. For example, mcabber will display just fine if i'm running a single terminal window or ssh session, but if i try to run it in screen i will have issues with the lines not displaying correctly and get a pretty much unusable screen. Other apps will look ugly regardless of if they are in screen or not (but they will look worse in screen)
For an example i used midnight commander, which has this behavior outside of screen,
Here is it looking normal on my desktop:
And here it is looking messed up:
    Any suggestions?

UTF8 support is right there. You get the weird characters, which means that mc is correctly outputting unicode, but the terminal doesn't display it as such. The problem here is that even your shell starts with the default locale, which is non-utf8. That's easy to check, just "echo $LANG" after starting a terminal locally (on the computer with the problem).
If you get en_US.utf8 then I'm completely lost, expert help is needed
Otherwise, the setting in rc.conf is overridden somewhere, most likely in your .bashrc or something similar. Grepping for LANG= in your home dir will hopefully tell you where exactly. If you use the same user locally and through ssh, then that explains why you get the problem from remote too. The config containing LANG=en_US is loaded just the same, no matter if you log in remotely or locally.

unfortunately games have these artifacts now too. they look like long thin lines, more like lightning bolts all over the screen. i though it could be something wrong with my cooler, but the heatsink is still attached as its supposed to be and the fan is spinning.
but whats really weird about it is, that the CPU temperatures arent anything but normal! they never cross 60°C under full load, and thats well within in the Intel safety specs.
another thing is, that i ran Prime95 for 40 minutes and i didnt get a single error. the memory is working too, it passes all tests in memtest and WMD.
so do i have a broken CPU now that doesnt work in games and 3D apps only but handles all 2D stuff well? or is it completely fubard but Prime95 just cant detect it? i know, this must sound pretty "noobish", but i have never came across such a weird problem!
    any ideas?
    striefenkarl, do you remember joshpsu?
he had a nearly identical system to yours, only a 3C... and kingston pc4000 and spent months trying to figure it out... the only thing we could come up with is motherboard....
he took his 9800pro back and got another... same thing...  he bought different ram because of it.... he bought a new power supply... when he built a 3C system based on asus P4P800 for a friend.. he tried his 3C, and it did the same exact thing... and he put his stuff in the asus board and it stopped...
so he couldn't play games when oced.... so really... whats the point of ocing convert movies faster and fold faster i guess?
he would get green lines by the way i think... are you getting green lines?

  • Never seen before interface while cleaning screen in lock mode

Never seen before interface while cleaning screen in lock mode came up looking like player with some weird buttons.

Go into iPod and play a song. While it's playing, click the standby button to lock/standby your phone and again to wake it (locked), then press the menu button twice. (This should also work if you play a song, press menu once to return to the main menu, then click menu twice. If not, there's a setting to turn it on.)

i restored my iPod in the middle of a download, now it can't do anything but restore, and when i restore it, the screen gets stuck on weird things, like the apple screen or purple or yellow. how do i get it un-stuck?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • How to display web interface in full screen mode

    Hi,
I would like to view my web interface in full screen mode in internet explorer. Is there anyway we can switch off the toolbars and URL automatically while calling the web interface
    Thanks
    SR

    Hello SR,
I don't think it is possible to do this directly in the web interface. Otherwise many websites would change your browser settings.
It's possible to set the window properties, when the window is opened from JavaScript for example. So you could create a dummy start page and add some JavaScript to open a window for the web interface with the settings you require. Here's a good page that explains it:

  • Artifacts appear on the screen

We faced the following problems while using Macbook Air 13" 2012, OSX 10.8.2 When starting the computer after sleep mode sometimes the artifacts appear on the screen.  And icons in the upper menu bar disappear. How is it possible to solve these problems?

Thanks very much for the tip.
If anyone has any ideas about the “error compiling movie: unknown error” problem I would be very appreciative to hear. Thanks!

  • Authorisations for users receiving Alerts on Interface Failure

    Dear All,
I have configured alerts to send out mails to relevant users in case of Interface failure.
Now I need to know that what strategy is followed in Alerting. As in, how many user groups should be created and what all authirisations should be given to these users.
As per my understanding, there should be 2 user groups to receive alerts:
    1) Business Users
    2) PI Support team.
Please tell me if the above approach is fine and what authorisations should be given to each in both ABAP and Java side.
    thanks,
    Piyush

    Hi Piyush,
If you are to send alerts to a specific user group through your alert category, the way could be to create a user account with basic authentications for PI monitoring and add this user as a fixed receipient for the Alert Category in ALRTCATDEF. Then assign a group mail id (add the required users to this group mail id in you mail server) to this user in SU01. This way the alert triggered against this particular alert category will be forwarded to this group mail id.
Ideally both the adapter engine and integration engine alerts are forwarded to Support team, but for the business users only the Integration Engine alerts are meaningful (mostly mapping conditional failures). So it is good practice to create two separate alert categories for adapter engine and integration engine and then add fixed receipients accordingly.
The other approach is to configure receipients via user role (create Z roles) for each alert category (ALRTCATDEF) and then assign the role to the specific users in the PI system.
The smart approach is to cofigure subscription authorizations in ALRTCATDEF and then individual users can subscribe to alert categories as per their need from Alert Inbox in RWB (there is an option for alert subscription) and can unsubscribe when they desire.

  • MacBook Pro having weird black noise on the screen.  Anyone seen this befor

So I have a 15 inch MacBook Pro 2.2 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 gigs of ram. Recently the DVD drive has died on it but more importantly it has started having weird black things on the screen and it will freeze right up. It has been doing this more and more. It will do it when I have had it running for a long time and everything is hot, it will do it when It has just been sitting there in a screen saver doing nothing, and it will do it when I have just had it on for a few min right out of my bag. I am running Snow leopard on it. I have never seen a machine do this before in my 10 years of having Apple Laptops. Anyone have a similar experience? I have a little video of what it's doing on youtube.

I have this weird artifacting happening in some elements of the UI in 10.5, this only occures in 10.5 and not <=10.4.
Anyone know how to solve this or why its happening. I dont think its damaged video card as it only happens on certain 10.5 UI elements and nothing else.

Does this when closing the grid sometimes. Again, only an issue with 10.5.

I posted another thread about this issue, as I have the same thing with my ATI X1600 in my C2D iMac.
If you are running bootcamp by any chance, look for a utility which will allow you to overclock your GPU (then use it to underclock the GPU instead). Using ATItools I reduced the core speeds of my GPU and video memory by quite a bit. 90% of my artifacting issues went away in WinXP.
I am still trying to come up with a way to underclock my GPU in Mac OS X, but I think it will require help from Apple to pull off.
If you can try this with your 7300 GT and it helps within windows, at least you know there is hope for you on the Mac side, assuming someone can come up with a way to flash the GPU.

  • Weird artifacts after awaking from hibernation

    Hi,
I noticed recently with my 2013 13" MBA after recovering from hibernation my screen has artifacts. After awaking from hibernation (deep sleep), the log in screen is completely fuzzy. And artifcates on the screen and icons.
This only happens after awaking from deep sleep and not regular sleep.
All these fuzziness disappears after I restart the system. However, after I start the system, all default mac icons disappears, in the menu bar and in applications like Finder and Mail.
I figured out that I can reboot into Safe Mode to recover the icons. However, I would have to repeat these steps everytime my MBA wakes from hibernation in order to remove the artifacts and recover the icons.
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

I did two things and that seems to mitigate the problem (not fully solved yet, unfortunately). I did both things together but I am not sure if both are necessary – perhaps you only need to perform one of them.
Performed a deep clean of the caches. I used Lion Cache Cleaner but you can use any other tool.
Installed the MacBook Pro Video Update from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1469.
Performing those steps seem to have solved the weird dashboard display and the window straddling problem. However, the Application Switcher (command-tab) problems still occurs.
Two other observations that I have:
I think that there is some relation with this problem and the dynamic switching between the integrated Intel and NVIDIA graphics. I notice (by checking using gfxStatusCard application) that as long as I am running on the Intel graphics the problem does not happen. Once I start using an application (for me that would be Keynote, Path Finder or NetNewsWire) that switches to the NVIDIA graphics card the problem happens.
Because I am on a MacBook Pro mid-2010, I think my problem might be related to the NVIDIA graphics problem that plagued the early version of Lion. You can find out more at this ARS Technica article. I suspect that the issue was never fully addressed by the later updates to Lion.

  • ITunes has weird lines all over the screen, then crashes.

Installed iTunes 8.0.1 and it's got the same configuration troubles. It happened when I installed iTunes 8 but I just did the whole regedit solution and changed permissions. Have tried doing that for 8.0.1 and I can change all the permissions the right way but it still does not fix the problem. Have also tried finding and replacing the iTunes.exe in Program Files but either I'm blind or it's just not there because I can't find it anywhere. The only way I can get into iTunes is by plugging my iPod in, it opens iTunes without prompting a restart of the computer. However, this lasts between 10-15 minutes before the interface just changes, it gets lines where the columns are and all the album artwork in the Genius sidebar is replaced with 'Cannot Find' symbols. At this point iTunes crashes and I have to close it and plug my iPod in again to get it to come back up. What in the blue **** is going on?

    Bump!
I'm also seeing some weird lines across the screen before itunes crashes. It happens after an hour or so of using itunes. I'm using Vista with iTunes v8.0.2.20. Any suggestions? Could it be the size of the library (~65,000)?

  • Irritating problem with Retina Display; dims/ flickers on and off and in weird pattern along bottom of screen

I bought a 13-inch Retina MBP in late September 2014, just a few months ago and i am starting to have problems with the screen.
First of all, the screen will sometimes fade and a weird pattern will appear at the bottom of the screen in which every second set of backlights is off and the other is on.  Here is a picture that i found on the internet; from a much older mac though but still shows the problem.
The second problem, which is more irritating, is that every now and again the screen will sort of flicker where it will get darker then lighter and keep switching the brightness in a matter of seconds.  This is so hard to look at!!
Hopefully there is an easy solution however i may have to take it to an Apple store and unfortunately get it replaced.
    Thanks.

    Howdy there chappo_10,
It sounds like you have a couple of unexpected video issues on your 13 inch MacBook Pro. I'd like to recommend these troubleshooting steps specifically to hep you determine if you need to take it to the Apple Store:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling
