Weird battery issue

Hello here,
I have an iBook 12" G4 @1.2GHz which is around 2.5 years old. Now, it's about 2 weeks that the battery doesn't charge more than 44%, I tried to discharge it completely then recharge it but to luck, it keeps stopping charging at 44%. Any idea?
Thank you for any suggestion or advice in advance.
Best,
Fabrizio

Probably the best thing to do is to go to:

This will give you all kinds of information and links that I think will answer your question better than I could attempt to explain it.
Good luck!

  • Wicked Weird Battery Issue

    Hey,
Over the past few days I have been having a very strange issue.
    Here is how it unfolds-
    1. Black MacBook goes in for repair
    2. New logic board and heatsink
    3. Get it back and there is an X in the battery icon
    4. Fiddle around with the battery and it is fine
    5. X again
    6. When I hold the battery a certain way before I lock it in, the cpu recongnizes it.
    7. Once I lock it in the cpu doesn't see a battery.
    8. The battery doesn't sit flush with the bottom, trust me I have tried at least 50 times to get it to, but it refuses to be flush.
Therefore I only lock it about 3/4 of the way, and most of the time it will see the battery, but other times, it won't.
Should I send this back in, or live with it. Any suggestions?

Try to reseated that battery properly before you turn on anything, after that, try to turn on your macbook when it is in steady position. and do "calibrate battery" when you manage to get it on.
IF problem persist, show your problem to apple store, probably they not properly assembled your battery space, and it kind of loose and won't attached properly between battery and metal plate on the macbook.
    Good Luck

  • Weird battery issue.  Any help?

Here's one some of you may have not seen. Or you have.
So my iBook totally died on me one day (CPU and Hard Drive). I was within the warranty so I sent it back, got it all fixed, and it came back to me. However, it came back with a letter saying my battery was not up to snuff. What I think they did was discharge it, because the computer would shut off if I unplugged it. Well, for about two months I just left the crappy battery in the iBook for balance and overall weight distribution. In that two months, the charge went from a constant ~98% to maxing out at around 85% or so. I finally bought a new battery, and went I went to fully charge it, the computer wouldn't display a charge over 85%, and my battery life reflected that. A month later, my battery won't charge above 66% and my BRAND NEW battery only lasts 2 hours.
Now, I'm sending my replacement battery back for a new one, but I can't help but think this is an issue with my iBook, since my new battery charged to the exact same percent as my old battery left off. I tried resetting the PMU more than once, and did the standard calibration when I first got the battery. Nothing seems to work. Is there some kind of system memory?
    Thanks for any help

If the router used as an expander of the original network
has its own name and configuration, see if you can choose
it so the original source is ignored. It may not want to do this
automatically; and in some cases, it may not work at all.
Does your configuration panel for networks give you an
option to choose AirPort to be in the top of the list? Is it?
You may have to be sure the correct wireless base is
chosen and see if that setup can be adjusted to allow
the iBook better access or power for the alleged range.
Does the network you have set up give the computers a
specific 195.xxx series of IP addresses behind the router
or other different identities? Since my setup is using the
10.xx.xx sequence, and I have Apple gear, it is a little easier
to set them up to include using the Express as a repeater.
Hopefully someone with general setup experience chimes in...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Another weird battery issue.

I downloaded a battery power management tool that said that my mac was 20 months old and that the max for the battery was 4400 and my max was 4100. Anyway, the battery is fine, but when charging it goes fast to get to 85% or so, then the remaining 15% is about 45 min to an hour to charge. Any ideas as to why? Would this be related to why my battery loses a lot of power while sleeping?

The charge slows so the battery won't be overcharged. It will slow to a trickle when it reaches about 96% and at times will stop before 100% for the same reason. Here's a page with a lot of info and links about batteries and maintaining them.

How much power are you losing while the computer sleeps and over what period of time?

  • Black MacBook Battery - weird battery issue

I have read the posts about a battery that is asleep and have tried all the fixes but still no resolution. Charger shows green light never show charging. Any ideas as to how to get my battery to take a charge? Thanks in advance !!!

I've had good luck with 3rd party batteries. I've gotten 4 of them off of eBay.

  • Weird battery measurement issue. [Lumia 920]

    Hello,
So a few hours ago I noticed that the battery was 9% (seemed pretty normal, since I recharged it only 2 days ago)
I decided to play a game or two to push the battery to it's limit to fully recharge it again.
Okay, afer an hour or so the screen went off and said "Goodbye". Seemed pretty straight forward, but I wanted to boot him up again just to check if everything of the battery was gone. I started it, and what do I see? 48% battery left. I thought it was some mistake to I played a game again for 30 minutes and noticed that it went down to 46%.
It looks like my phone thought the battery was dead while it still had half of it's power over?
First time I try to reboot after it shuting itself down cause of battery, so I can't say that this happend before (yet).
    Any idea what happened?

  • HP DV9000 Laptop Instant Shutdown Battery Issue

    Hello everyone,
I'm new here and I am having some laptop issues and was hoping someone might be able to assist me with them. First I would like to list my computer specs:
    HP DV9543CL laptop
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 2GHZ
    2x 160 GB SATA HDs
    2 GB RAM
    Running: Windows 7 x64
Below is a rundown of what is happening and what I have done to try and resolve my issue:
My laptop was making some retched loud noises from the fan and it wouldn’t stop or slow down at all, it would just stay on with its highest RPMs. With my warranty expired, I decided I would open up my laptop to try and clean out the fan and heatsink. I have worked on and built my own desktops for a while and I decided that I should be able to clean the laptop fan (a decision I currently regret). I got everything open and took everything apart and cleaned out the fan and as I was putting the laptop together I had a hard time putting in the flat cable for the HP Quickplay Switch Board and slightly damaged it. After everything was put back together, I fired up the computer and everything booted up properly. I noticed that the HP Quickplay buttons lights still came on, but the volume slider lights were no longer illuminated. The Quickplay buttons no longer work (which I can deal with because they illuminate properly) but I am having a bigger issue now.
I noticed when I booted up Windows, my battery icon showed that my battery was charging but when I hovered over the icon it said my battery had 0% but was plugged in and charging, however the percentage would never increase indicating it was actually charging. I thought this was weird so I decided to unplug the laptop from the AC adapter to see what would happen. When I did this, the computer stayed on but still told me that the battery had 0%. I decided to leave it that way (since I knew the battery had an almost complete charge) and check to make sure everything else worked. After about 5 minutes or so, my computer shut down instantaneously (like if you were to pull the plug without the battery in.) Knowing this was a bad sign, I decided to try and figure out what was going on. I tried plugging in the computer with the battery in and after about 10 minutes or so the computer shut down the same way. Next I thought I would try using the laptop without the battery in and use it on just AC power. This seemed to work and since I have been using the laptop this way, it has been running alright. My wife has the same exact laptop so I thought I would check my battery in her computer and her battery in mine because her computer is running fine, and, of course, her battery does the same thing in my computer and my battery reads just fine in her computer. So I am now resorting to working on my laptop only on AC power, but I’m sure you can understand my frustration in using a laptop this way. I also thought maybe it was a software issue in my Windows OS so I loaded up a Ubuntu live boot environment and found that Ubuntu was reporting the same battery issues as Windows (saying the battery was charging at 0% but not increasing in charge and reporting that the battery was empty when off of AC power but still running for a short time.)
There is one other issue that is happening. If I leave the computer on with the battery in (with or without AC power) and leave it sitting, eventually the battery charging indicator light starts flashing as if something is wrong. This also happened when I had the computer completely off but left the AC adapter plugged in with the battery in (as if to charge the battery). This led me to believe that the issue is a hardware issue but I had to check to make sure it wasn’t an OS problem as well.
I really have no idea what I could have done to the computer to have this happen. I checked everything that I did when disassembling the computer and I didn’t tinker with the battery or anything that controls it, to my knowledge. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I really regret ever opening up my laptop but now that it’s in the past, I’m hoping I may be able to at least fix what I’ve messed up.
Sorry for such a long post and thank you, in advance, for helping me with my issue. Let me know if there is any other information you may need to assist. Thank you for your time.
    -Billy-

So I just had another shutdown but this time it was without the battery in and on AC power (which was working fine before). I decided I would load up World of Warcraft to play, since I thought it was working, and after about 5 or 10 minutes of playing the computer shut down. It doesn't restart when these shutdowns happen it just goes off and stays off. I have been monitoring temperatures to see if that could be a potential issue of overheating (although I still think there is a battery problem too) and found that just random web browsing has the computer idle around 44-45 C and when I am running World of Warcraft it was ~80 C. I don't know what normal laptop temps are but it didn't seem overly stressing but I don't know. It's working for normal web browsing and word processing but World of Warcraft is too stressing apparently. Any insight anyone has on this issue would be wonderful. Thanks for your time.

  • Possible cure for battery issues

    hi
first of all i dont own the device yet
    i am user of 5530,5800,n8,c7,701
i was looking farword to bring in my hands the first nokia wp7 but due to features missing and (in my opinion) little overpriced at the moment(as sim free) i will wait for the next nokia wp7
but being for a while in nokia forums i deside to write this atricle with my opinion about the battery issue (IF IT IS) with the 800
after reading many users facing problem with battery  in different revious and forums about my N9 last longer or my N8 etc i deside to do a test with my current in use 701(1300milliamber battery and the brightness screen that nokia offers right now)
i left all day the phone connected to 3g and gprs data with about 5 min calls couple of textsand little browsing fmobi, little use the default browser, little use apps which connects to internet ...all these  for about 1,5 - 2 hrs
it did last about 12 hrs same as some users with the lumia
Now if you dont belive me TRY THE SAME TEST BY YOUR SELFS
what i have understand (as i dont own the device) is that perhaps by default or out of the box (and especially the branded phones from the providers) is that featurs like wifi or data, nokia account, market place bing etc must be ON
if was the same issue with my 701 it will not go too far of course
what nokia possible can do is to do a frimware update which in start up or rebooting the phone....dark them, wifi, data, bluetooth, internet connection should be off by default like in symbian
i am sure the upcoming new customers will not have future complains
but i belive this is important as some poeple dont have the knowlege to do all these to turn off manual, especially in a new UI that they are using first time (wp7) and of course having a new phone most of them especially the non experts can think the battery drains so easy if all are ON
******* or at least nokia should make it like symbian to turn off automatic after closing apps, face, twitter, email etc
    thanks for your time reading
for me after my Xmas bonus(if any lol)  i will go for a windows phone(sim unlocked)either if nokia or other brand
of course i can wait for the next nokia model not because of the battery issue but i prefer in windows phone 7 bigger screen
    thanks again

I must agree with your thinking...
When I first got my C7, battery wasn't lasting a day...
And the reasons was the ones you said...
e-mail was keeping data on, WiFi was always looking for a connexion
I won't say that the Lumia 800 can't have any battery issues, but first of all, it's our use that kill off the bettery...
Setting e-mil to work only once per hour, setting WiFi off when not used...
Only those 2 option give a bette life to the battery...

  • Weird Playback Issue...

I have this weird playback issue with iTunes for Windows. I am using Vista and I think the cause of the problem is that I am using MacDrive to access my OS X partition. But anyways, on with the problem. So the problem is that when I play a song, the song will play for like 5 seconds and then it will just go the next song. This song will do the same thing, and so-on and so-forth. Then, during this time, my Mac formatted hard drive is unavailable while iTunes is running. In "My Computer" the drive is there, but when I try to open it, Explorer freezes. Then, when I exit iTunes, it doesn't really exit. It still shows up in the task manager and when I try to end the process, it just plain doesn't end. I have to restart my computer to gain full use of it again. After the restart I can access my Mac disks, but once I start iTunes and try to play a song, I get the same thing again. And in case thats not weird enough, I can play the MP3's in WMP fine, and they will also play in iTunes fine if I actually open them, rather than just select them from my library. If I go to file open and select a song on my Mac drive, it will play fine, but then once I try to play a song from my library, I get caught in that vicious cycle. Anyone else had this problem or anything? Thanks. Also, is there an alternative program to Mac Drive that will allow me to read HFS partitions?

Post more about your situation... what format is the video, and where are you storing the video files? i.e., on a disk other than your startup disk? The adobe install is likely not the problem... I run adobe software along side FCS on about 75 workstations, and don't see issues like you describe.
Wavy? not accurate? what are you talking about?

  • IOS 5.1 and iPhone 4S - battery issues resolved?

Has the 5.1 update resolved your battery issues or created any new ones?
I just updated mine, and had to rush out the door so I couldn't test properly- I couldn't reset all settings to factory or recharge the phone to 100% but as is, so far no improvement at all. I wouldn't say I have the issue as bad as some others as my 4S lasts about the same as my windows phone (HD 7 - amazing phone if anyone wants a second phone or a change from ios, Android ***** so hard it hurts) and my old 3GS used to get after i updated it to 4.1 which was really bad, except I don't get so much "phantom drain" as that did. I do know that it could be much better as when I've reset my settings to factory before I've got a much better life span (what I'd expect from a smartphone) for a day or so before getting the bad battery again.
Any news, tips or findings? How has ios5.1 affected your 4S or previous model iPhone?

  • Genius Bar Feedback on Battery Issues

Ok..so I know there are hundreds of posts regarding various battery issues. I thought it might be helpful to post feedback on my genius bar visit today regarding my battery.
The issue with my battery is that the meter seems to be stuck at about 80% full, regardless of how much I use the iPhone or how long I charge it. I have no accurate way of knowing how much battery life I have left. I have even played 6+ hours of straight video to drain the batter and the meter never moves.
Fortunately, my lightning bolt icon (upper right corner) does eventually change to an a/c plug which tells me that the battery is fully charged even though the big green battery is always at 80%.
So the guy at the genius bar tried and inquired about all the usual tricks already discussed in this forum (restore, plug AC adapter to wall instead of USB, turn off wifi, bluetooth, etc). and concluded that it's most likely a software issue.
He did say however that the the usage statistics frequently mentioned here are controlled by AT&T and that it's functionality depends on AT&T sending some sort of over-the-air signal. Don't know if I buy that.
So, in a nutshell, they did not offer to replace the phone (not that they had any in stock anyway), but instead made a notation of the problem using my serial number and told me to wait for an Apple software update, which will most likely correct the problem. If it doesn't, then they can assume a hardware conflict and issue an replacement.
I know this is getting long, but I would like to add that my battery life itself seems fine. I just never know what I have left by looking at any of the two meters.
    G5 Duo-Core   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

My original iPhone had poor battery performance and would not reset the usage stats. There is no Apple Store near me, so Apple support sent a service phone and I sent mine in. The service phone has good battery performance and correctly reset the stats. I was notified that the original phone could not be repaired and a new replacement was sent to me. The new iPhone has great battery performance, but no matter what I try, the usage stats won't reset. Today I was told by Apple support that they believe this is a software issue and a revision would be developed to address the problem. There is no forecast availability date. It doesn't make any sense that a signal from AT&T would have anything to do with the battery stats. The service phone charged and reset the stats before I swapped my SIM into it.

  • Semi-Scientific Test on iPhone 4S Battery Issue w/two iPhone 4Ss

    All,
My wife and I ordered identical 16 GB iPhone 4Ss. They were set up the same way. From the very start, I could tell that her battery was outperforming mine.
After a day of turning off and on various settings, from Location Services, to Siri, to iTunes settings, etc. I still noticed a huge gap in stand-by performance. I was losing 1% per 10 minutes, her phone was not.
Today, we had similiar usage with similar network characteristics (WiFi, decent 3G coverage) starting from a full charge (100%). After 8 hours, her phone still had 52% remaining. Mine died on the way home from work.
So tonight, I performed a test. I plugged both phones up and allowed them to fully charge to 100%. While plugged up, I ensured each setting on the phone were identical, including the number of Exchange accounts, brightness level, etc. At 9pm CDT, I unplugged them. My phone took a long time to get from 99% to 100%, her phone didn't. Mine also went to 99% upon unplug, her's didn't.
Neither phone was used at all, stayed completely in stand-by mode. At 10:15pm CDT, ...her phone remains at 100%. Mine is now at 92%. That's roughly 1% every 10 minutes on my phone, same thing I saw earlier in the day.
I think this, for me at least, confirms the diverse results folks are seeing. Some folks are seeing major battery issues, some are seeing better battery life over other iOS devices. It just so happens in our house, we have one of each. Why would two identical phones behave so differently? I've exahusted all possible options on my phone, including the recently posted attempt at deleting e-mail accounts and resetting network settings.
Does Apple recommend that I do a restore on my phone? I am trying to do so, but I am having issues re-downloading iOS 5. If I still see the same battery drain, I believe I will take this into the Genius bar.
I do believe it's time that Apple address this battery issue. I for one, based on experience, believe it's real, and could be a manufacturing defect. I don't know how else to explain two identical phones having vastly different stand-by results if my restore fails to fix the issue.

After spending 2 days troubleshooting I have found my battery drain culprit. When I turn my wifi on it coninuously disconnects and reconnects to my network. This was draining my battery about 1% every 4 minutes. I went through all the turn this stuff off, reset network settings, setup phone as new, helped some but still had the issue. This morning I set mine and my wife's up the same, she went to work and was playing music on the way in. Still had 100% after 40 minutes. I was at home with wifi on and dropped to 90%.
I charged my battery back up, turned wifi off and now after an hour still have 100%. This is with siri on, icloud on, notifications on, etc.
Can anyone else confirn this is an issue for them. I am trying to determine if it is hardware or software related.
    Thanks
