Weird behaviour in the event browser

I don't understand why, if I browse, say, a clip in the event browser (i.e. with 10s duration represented thumbnail) browsing on the clip with the mouse and going down in the display, if I move the mouse and accidentally get it close to the scrolling side bar, the clip visualisation returns to the previous position... In this way I lose the point where I was arrived to, and I have to rescan the clip... Very very annoying and time consuming...

Not at all certain I understand what you're saying.
If you have skimming on and you move the skimmer beyond the end of a given clip the skimmer should appear in the adjacent clip in the browser.

  • Is there a way to play videos faster in the event browser?

I shoot a lot of helmet camera video.  Most of it is worthless, but there's some good sequences in there.  I guess I'm looking for a way to skim the videos without using the mouse.  I'd like to just sit and watch the event browser at 2X or 3X speed until I find something worth saving.  Using iMovie 09.

You can skim with your mouse at whatever speed you want. If that is not good enough, you can try the following...
In the Event browser, speed up playback from 1x to 2x to 4x by pressing the Right Arrow Keny one time or two times, respectively
In the Event Browser, Slow down playback from 4x to 2x to 1x by pressing the left arrow key one time or two times, respectively.
The "slow down" only works if you have already "speeded up"
This works in iMovie 11. It most likely works in iMovie 09 and 08 as well.

  • Is there a way to split clips in the Event browser? (audio-synch related)

It seems there is no way to split an event-clip (a clip that appears in the Event browser). You can split Events--but only if they consist of more than one clip. And then you can only split them between two clips. People who have transferred analog video tapes (e.g., Video8) to their computers with the help of iMovie end up with Events that are the same length as their video tapes. So this usually means 2-hour events (consisting of one clip). But iMovie has a synchronization problem for such DV files. This problem would be mitigated by having shorter events. Hence the desire to split events. I thought a read somewhere a workaround for splitting event-clips, but if was a few months ago. I wouldn't think there is any reason we cannot split event clips, other than a preference for non-destructive editing. But a bit of destruction may be worthwhile if it improves synchronization. Does anyone know a way to split clips in the Event browser?

  • My media can no longer playback in the event browser (post-upgrade?) any ideas?

I'm not quite sure when (possibly post the latest upgrade to 10.07?), but I have stopped being able to playback files in the event browser.
Up until recently, I've been able to playback clips in the browser just by positioning the playhead and pushing spacebar (same way I playback in the timeline viewer).
I don't think I'm running any new plugins, and have been Googling around and haven't found anyone with similar issues. Any ideas? I also checked to see but didn't see any notes on anything like this in the upgrade notes (apologies if I missed it).
Right now, when I click on a clip in the event browser and press spacebar, nothing happens. I can still skim. I've also tried command-L (just to test if it was something funny about the selection), but still nothing.
I was definitely able to do this until not so long ago. Makes working in the event browser pretty tricky, would be grateful for any advice, and apologies if I've missed something obvious.

That solved it (should have thought of that). Much thanks for the quick reply.

  • How to search markers in the event browser

    Hi !
I work on long documentaries and I have hours of interview I go through, and I put markers on it.
option - M, and a few words describing what the person in saying, so that I can quickly come back to that moment if needed.
The thing is that I cannot find any way to search through my markers in the event browser ... Is that normal ?
I can't find a list of all my markers to see exactly what I wrote and what was the timecode...
The thing is that I don't wanna bring all those clips to a timeline to do that, because I would have to make so many timelines just for that... Waste of time and energy.
Is there a way to achieve this basic thing of searching through markers in the event browser ?
And if it does not exist, is there a way to tell Apple that they should make this possible ?
    Thanks.

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for your reply. I can actually go to the clip with the search function but I won't be at the specific marker with the entered text.
And the thing is that I have tons of markers on a single interview clip (1 hour long). So If I search for a work I marked at a certain TC, the search
will bring me to the clip and not to the exact moment in the clip where I marked it.
Also, I'd love to have a list of all the markers I make + the timecodes so I could have a quick look at all the markers in the event browser,
but it seems like it's not possible...
Thanks anyway... I'll use the Feedback menu

  • Thumbnail images in the event browser

After about 20 minutes on FCPX the thumbnail images in the event browser randomaly disappear. If I move the scrubber bar over the blank thumbnail the image reappears but only for as long as I linger on the thumbnail. The audio track remains visible all the time. Changing the view or the scale doesn't help. It's difficult to find clips, as you can imagine. Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks Russ. After returning to original layout the problem subsided but returned after a longer time period (about two hours). I was just working (on a different project) and suddenly %90 of the thumbnails turned blue. I could still see the audio information but the pictures vanished. The picture returns when the scrubbing bar hovers over the thumbnail then disappears again when I take the bar away. This is incredibly frustrating. Could it be because I'm using a thunderboldt display off of my Mac Book Pro? Both are less than 1 year old and the Pro is (was) top of the line at the time. Blind as a bat.

  • Play back video clip is not working in the event browser...

    Hello,
I have a problem in the event browser only. If I place the skimmer in any clip and press the space bar, nothing happen. If I press the "play" arrow" it does not work neither nor through the presentation menu.
The space bar shortcut to play works perfectly fine in the timeline, but not in the event browser.
In order to preview a clip at normal speed (100%), I have to drag it in the timeline and play it wich is rather anoying.
Any idea on how to correct this issue would be very much welcome.
Thank you very much for your help.

I was having this exact same problem.  I tried deleting the preferences, however that didn't work.  But, yes, when I switched the view from 'show viewers on second display', back to 'show on main display'... the spacebar worked again... then I switched back to showing the viewers on my second display, the original circumstance  (which is definitely my preference)... and so far it is working again.. doesn't seem like anything has been 'fixed', but hopefully this doesn't happen often.
So thanks to this thread, as I had no idea what to do, and it was getting very annoying.

  • After transferring clips to Final Cut, they do not show up in the events library. They show up in the timeline of my project, though. how can I see then in the events browser?

After importing clips to Final Cut, they do not show up in the events library. Events from 2014 show up, but not 2015.They show up in the timeline of my project, though. How can I see them in the events browser?

TThose aren't bins. Those are just groupings based on when the content was created or any other selected parameter. Use the action popup in the toolbar tho change the setting.

  • Marking while playing video in the event browser

I recently switched from PC to Mac specifically to edit our home family videos. My question is how do I mark an end point in my video when viewing the video in the event browser? I understand that I could select a range of frames by clicking and dragging the yellow selection box, however I want to play the video (using the spacebar)and then stop, and mark, the video at a certain point. As soon as I move my cursor, the playhead disapears and I loose my last position. I am forced to click and drag the right of the yellow selection box to my end point but I find it not as precise as simply marking a spot while playing live playback. Any suggestions?

While playing the clip in the event browser (with nothing selected):
    - press spacebar to pause
    - press shift+right-arrow to mark the in point
    - press spacebar to resume playback
    - press spacebar to pause
    - press shift+right-arrow to mark the out point
You can now use left and right arrow keys to move your entire selection or use shift+right-arrow and shift+left-arrow to move the out point and resize your selection. When you're done, press E to add the selected range to the project window.

  • Rotate Multiple Clips in the Event Browser (help)!

I make no apology for posting this a second time - there were no replies to my first post and if you've ever contemplated rotating something like 400 clips by opening them one by one in the Timeline and then adjusting the Rotate parameter in the Inspector, you'll know how I feel.
I want the correction to be on the clips in the Browser, because there's a lot of waste footage and it's so hard to trawl through it upside down. Rotating in the Storyline is dead easy but it doesn't affect the Browser clips - and that's what I need.
I'm sure I read you could do this - and I'm sure I tried it, and it worked - but I can't get it to work again.
I'm convinced the Browser Thumbnails turned the right way up - but I may be hallucinating.
I know it involved opening one clip in the timeline and either adding the 'Flipped' effect or changing the Rotation in the Inspector. I then (somehow) applied that change to the rest of the clips in the Event Browser.
Already tried copying and then Cmd+Alt+V, on all the selected clips in the Browser, but no joy. I also tried adding the rest of the Browser Clips to the same Timeline (which then magically becomes a Storyline) and Copying and Pasting there - but that doesn't affect the Browser Clips.
    (Maybe it's my age).

    OK - so here's how I did it in the end . . .
Copy a rotated clip in the timeline.
Right-click a clip in the Browser.
    Choose 'Open in Timeline'
Press Cmd+2 to select the timeline.
Press ' i ' to select the clip in the timeline.
Press Alt+Cmd+v to Paste the Effects.
I got a stiff neck doing it - SURELY there's a proper way to do it?

  • Does Editing a clip after using the "Open in Timeline" command in the event browser alter the source media file?

Does editing a clip after using the "Open in Timeline" command in the event browser alter the source media file?

. Didn't we have that in 7?  Seems like I remember we could set the number of undo levels.
Legacy FCP has Revert Project to return to the last saved version, and it has Restore Project to go back to one of the autosaved versions. The maximum number of undo's can be set in user preferences. A lot different than X.

  • Marking an in or out point in the event browser changes the selected clip

I'm getting quite infuriated with this issue at the moment. I'm not sure if it's a bug, or I'm doing something wrong.
I've created collections of subclips by tagging ranges with keywords in the event browser. I'm now trying to edit these onto the timeline. I find the clip I want in the browser and use JKL and IO to mark the in and out point of the actual part of the clip I'm going to use. The problem I'm having is that sometimes - not all the time - pressing I or O changes the selected clip in the event browser.
    Any ideas what's going on?
Many thanks in advance for any help you're able to offer.

Changes how? Post screen shots of what you're seeing and what you expect to see.

  • How can I select multiple clips in the event browser?

I can't seem to figure out how to do something that should be pretty simple. I want to select multiple clips in the event browser that aren't next to each other. Right now it's only letting me select the two clips with every other clip in between. Is there a keyboard function that will allow me to deselect the clips in between while leaving the two on the outside selected? In Apple's finder you can do this with files by holding down shift-command while clicking on the ones you want. Or is there away to rearrange clips in the event browswer?
I'd like to be able to create a multicam clip, but there is always going to be other media in between the clips I want to combine, so how can I select only the clips I want?
    Thanks!

Holding the Command key should let you select non-contiguous items, just as in the Finder.

  • I want to remove clips from the event browser. How?

How can I remove clips from the event browser in iMovie 11 when I have finished using them - without deleting or rejecting them?

I'm not clear why do you want to remove them if its not to save space by deleting them?

  • Compound clip imported into project not showing up in the event browser

I have learnt that when one imports any clip into the project from anywhere else other than its associated event folder, the new clip also gets automatically added into the event folder. I have seen this occur when I had imported audio from the music browser onto my timeline directly.
Today I happened to place a compound clip [a common template which I use for introduction to the video] onto the beginning of a project which I have started recently. I broke the compound clip apart and made the necessary edits. What puzzles me is that this compound clip has an audio clip and this clip was not being shown in the event browser. Is this normal?
Ps. I have very recently updated my FCPX from version 2 to 5.
    DR.SOMANNA

Let me explain the matter in a different way...
I have made a compound clip of the intitial generator clip, titles and music clip which I had used for my first project. The intention to do so being that I could reuse the same for my future projects as well. I placed this compound clip in a new project which I named as templates.
When I had started upon a new project a few days ago, I copied and pasted this compound clip from the 'templates project' and added it to the beginning of the timeline of the new project.
Now, for purposes of editing the titles, I broke apart the compound clip and changed the text of the titles. Also, when I had ungrouped the compound clip, there did appear the music clip below the timeline. I know that clips imported from the generator browser and the titles that are added to the project do not show up in the events browser, but should not the audio clip make its appearance in the event browser? I know that when we add an audio from the music browser, this audio clip will be automatically shown in the event browser.
My question therefore is this: is an audio track that gets added to the timeline of a project via a compound clip that has been added and ungrouped on the timeline an exception to the rule?
Hope I have made myself clear.
