Weird case!

Weird case!
Desktop publishing with InDesign (CS5) is something else then Quark.
I work with documents from customers that would have used Plug-ins but sometimes, let’s make a book, InDesign will not ad any pages.
I think it’s strange for a publisher packet that let third party Plug-ins make a mess of such a nice peace of software.
Or am I thinking wrong here?
PS: forgive my bad English because it’s not my mothers languages.

The version of InDesign is CS5 but for now, not on the job, I don’t know any other number, build, series or whatever.
One of the problems is making a book.
Start InDesign, make Book, and add just InDesign files, NOT.
The only message is that InDesign can not add pages to the book because of a Plug-In.
When I load the org. document I can read, change, delete but can not make a packet or make a book.
The customer has used a Plug-in and forces me (or/and InDesign?) to buy that Plug-in!
That’s weird, or…

• Weird case involving NTLM, Windows XP and the portal

I have a very peculiar case here for a few users.
The users have in common that they are all using windows xp (and just migrated), though most other person (even ones using windows XP do not have the problem).
We have implemented SSO to the portal, and done this using IIS on the portal servers. In front of that we are using IBM edge loadbalancers.
From a troubled user perspective, when the he opens the browser against the portal, he gets the portal logon page with a message saying user authentication failed.
I've found out what happens behind the scene and why the portal fails, but I can't explain it thoroughly.
The user's browser reaches the portal.company.com address. IIS requests NTLM login and after a few packets, the browser sends the user's userprincipalname ([email protected]) via the NTLM login (i've documented this in the network traces from ethereal). That the browser sends the userprincipalname is the core of the problems, all other user's send the SAMaccountname. The portal reads the NTLM information and parses the userinformation (here the userprincipalname) However, we have configured our portal to use the SAMaccountname when authentication against AD, and therefore the login fails.
If I use an DNS alias for the portal.company.com addresse, say aliasportal.company.com (actually portal.company.com is an alias for aliasportal.company.com, but don't let that confuse you), the same client that sent userprincipalname earlier, now sends the SAMaccountname and therefore gets SSO (and goes through the loadbalancer). And if I try to access one of the portal servers directly (without going through the load balancer), it also sends SAMaccountname. So basically, there has to be something with the address portal.company.com that makes the user's browser to send the userprincipalname.
Also, this problem is not tied to the user's profile, because if he uses another pc, it works like a charm.
<b>If you have any idea at all what could have caused this, please do contribute.. No answers are stupid (in this case). I am especially looking for details to what causes IE to send userprincipalnames, and what causes it to send SAMaccountname.</b>
Network sniffing(some minor changes to hide information):
This is the NTLM packet which "wrongly" contains the userprincipalname.

I'll be truely impressed if anyone solves this one!

Hi Dagfinn,
There are a few things I would check in the Internet explorer settings on the client, namely :
-The security zones (which addresses are in Intranet, Trusted sites, etc.)
-Check in the security settings if automatic logon with current username is enabled.
-Look if "Enable integrated Windows authentication" is enabled in the advanced settings.
Are you using Kerberos authentication? There's a long article on Microsoft's website about troubleshooting Kerberos errors which might give a few clues :

• Weird case of simple parameter assignment

Hi, Guys !
Here's some challenge for you. I have a Package where one of the Functions used for Error_logging. It works fine, except rarely it gives an Error :
ORA-06512: at "CORE_PKG", line 295
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
272 PROCEDURE ERR_HANDLER_PRC
273 (iERR_CODE IN NUMBER,
274 oRETURN_CODE OUT NUMBER,
275 oRETURN_MSG OUT ERROR_MSG_BV.MSG_TEXT%TYPE,
276 iUSE_SQLERRM IN BOOLEAN DEFAULT TRUE) IS
277
278 vMSG_REC ERROR_MSG_BV%ROWTYPE := MSG_ROW_FNC (iERR_CODE); -- This Function selects 0 or 1 row based on passed Error code from Table of standard messages (just 33 rows)
279
280 BEGIN
281
282 IF vMSG_REC.MSG_TEXT IS NULL OR vMSG_REC.RETURN_CODE IS NULL THEN
283 vMSG_REC.RETURN_CODE := iERR_CODE;
284 vMSG_REC.MSG_TEXT := SQLERRM (iERR_CODE);
285 END IF;
286
287 oRETURN_CODE := vMSG_REC.RETURN_CODE;
288 oRETURN_MSG := vMSG_REC.MSG_TEXT;
289
290 EXCEPTION
291
292 WHEN OTHERS THEN
293
294 oRETURN_CODE := vMSG_REC.RETURN_CODE;
295 oRETURN_MSG := vMSG_REC.MSG_TEXT;
296
297 INSERT_ERROR_LOG_PRC ('CORE_PKG', 'ORACLE', SQLCODE, SQLERRM, 'ERR_HANDLER_PRC',
298 'Execution Block of ERR_HANDLER_PRC');
299
300 END ERR_HANDLER_PRC;
At line 295 - just a simple assignment of one field (which is VARCHAR2 (512) <- longest Oracle SQLERRM string) belonging to a ROWTYPE variable. But that's happening inside error handler which means that initial
error occur on Line 284 or 288. On those lines
also similar assignments. I checked all parameters, variables, %types and %rowtypes and they all
VARCHAR2(512) - exactly what are suppose to be. Longest string selected from Table of standard messages into %rowtype.msg_text is 97 characters (eventhough it can hold up to 512).
So my question is HOW in the world is possible that Buffer is too small If it's SAME length that variable ???
(and actual string less then 512)
Any Ideas anybody ?
Thanx ! ( Please let me know If anything is unclear )

Thanx, Rich. I understand what you're saying and I was able to re-create error in Anonymous block which calls
ERR_LOG_HANDLER_PRC and which call ERR_HANDLER_PRC that raises an Error.
DECLARE
STATUS ERROR_LOG_BV.ERROR_CODE%TYPE;
STATUS_MSG VARCHAR2(20); <-- this declaration causes 'Buffer too small' error
BEGIN
PENSKE_CORE_PKG.ERR_LOG_HANDLER_PRC (SQLCODE, SQLERRM, STATUS, STATUS_MSG, TRUE, 'ORACLE',
'ANONYMOUS_BLOCK', 'TEST_CALL');
END;
But this code executes fine:
DECLARE
STATUS ERROR_LOG_BV.ERROR_CODE%TYPE;
STATUS_MSG ERROR_LOG_BV.ERROR_DESC%TYPE;
BEGIN
PENSKE_CORE_PKG.ERR_LOG_HANDLER_PRC (SQLCODE, SQLERRM, STATUS, STATUS_MSG, TRUE, 'ORACLE',
'ANONYMOUS_BLOCK', 'TEST_CALL');
END;
But that's a testing code. In the real code I checked all Programs calling that routine, and all
OUT parameters and variables declared dynamically like :
vERR_CODE ERROR_LOG_BV.ERROR_CODE%TYPE;
vERR_MSG ERROR_LOG_BV.ERROR_DESC%TYPE;
So I don't know how is that possible ?

• Bad bug with ID3 tags of different case for same artist

My itunes files and music library are on a different drive than my boot drive. It is an internal drive (always on) in my Mac Pro at /Volumes/Media1/iTunes with music library at /Volumes/Media1/iTunes/iTunes Music. iTunes is setup to automatically keep it organized and copy files to the media folder when adding. It has been this way for years, never a problem.
Just recently, and I think this may have coincided (but I'm not sure) with a 10.6.5 Snow Leopard update, my music started disappearing! The entries were still in the library, but with the missing exclamation mark in itunes with it reporting that it couldn't find the files. But only certain artists. After searching my computer, I found the missing files it at the same path, but on my boot drive, at /Media1/iTunes/iTunes Music/<missing artist>!
Trying to add these files back to my library would work briefly, but then they would magically disappear out of /Volumes/Media1/iTunes/iTunes Music and go back to /Media1/iTunes/iTunes Music/
I figured out the one thing the different artists that had this behavior had in common - some of the ID3 tags for the same artist, which are the basis for organization, were in different cases. I think there is a weird case sensitivity bug that is breaking things. When I add back only those songs for an artist with ID3 tags for the artist of the same case, the behaviour stops.
I'm posting less looking for an answer and more to raise visibility and hope this gets a fix.
Example entries from my iTunes Library.xml, notice how the 'k' in OutKast is a different case in the entries.
<key>Artist</key><string>OutKast</string>
<key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/Media1/iTunes/iTunes%20Music/OutKast/Speakerboxxx,%20Th e%20Love%20Below%20(Disc%202)/13%20Pink%20&%20Blue.mp3</string>
<key>Artist</key><string>Outkast</string>
<key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/Media1/iTunes/iTunes%20Music/Outkast/Aquemini/12%20Spot tieOttieDopaliscious.mp3</string>

I'd like to note that I'm experiencing the exact same issue. I'd add to this but petegas4life has it spot on. I'm just replying in hopes this thread gets noticed so the engineers at apple can look into this and hopefully fix it in the next release.
Reproducing the problem is pretty simple too. Just take one song from an album and change the case of the artist name. You'll see the music move to the boot drive and all of the songs from that artist won't work in itunes anymore. And if you're relying on iTunes to edit the tags, fixing the files is a PAIN because they keep disappearing on you.

• Purchase order fax notification in case of error

Hello Everybody,
We have the following scenario:
ERP 6.0
sending purchase order via fax manually(ME9f) after approval
when fax doesn't reach the recepient, usually the person who sent the fax, automatically receives a document to SAP inbox with information that fax with PO nr xxx did not reached the recepient. However in some cases, it goes not to the sender but the approver. Does anybody knows the rules here? If I go to SOST transaction I can see that in those 'weird' cases, the approver is the sender but users say, that he never sends any POs. Any clue what can it be?
kind regards,
Robert

Hi Arun,
As far as Resubmittting is concerned, there are two ways by which you may resubmit a message in 11g -
1. Through UI (http://blogs.oracle.com/oracleb2bgurus/2009/09/what_do_i_like_most_in_11g_-_r.html)
2. Through Resubmit command line utility (http://blogs.oracle.com/oracleb2bgurus/2009/09/b2b_commandline_utilities.html)
Notification is not an in built mechanism in Oracle b2b. You may like to implement the same using BPEL. As Nitesh mentioned, by default exception/error message is enqueued to IP_IN_QUEUE and has the recipient name b2berroruser. You may develope a BPEL process listening for error messages (recipient name=b2berroruser), and perform required notification processing (EMail, SMS, Fax etc.) in that.

• Alt text of image tooltip not showing for some cases

Hello,
I have followed the following steps in adding the alt text of images. Adobe Acrobat X Pro * Add alternate text and supplementary information to tags
However, there is a weird case where the tooltip of the alt text is not shown on hover for a specific page (page 5 of the attached PDF)
http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=63161349344665038065
Please advise if there is something wrong with the PDF that is causing Reader to not show the alt text for the images in that certain page. (and if the PDF should be fixed or is Reader the one that has a problem).
Thanks

I added a JInternalframe on south side of a JFrame.Well, that's plain wrong. JInternalFrame is meant to be added to a JDesktopPane.
I added mouse listeners to JFrame. In mouse release I am placing one image at mouse release x,y location by following statement.
g2.drawImage(bitmapImage, x, y, w , h, null)
Problem is when I do mouse release just near to JInternalFrame component which added south side of main Jframe.
showing some part of image on south panel for a sec and then going back. Directly It should to go back side JFrame .
It should not appear on JInternalFrame even for fraction of sec also.To get better help sooner, post a [_SSCCE_|http://mindprod.com/jgloss/sscce.html] that clearly demonstrates your problem.
Use code tags to post codes --
CODE
will display asCODEOr click the CODE button and paste your code between the {code} tags that appear.

• SAP J2EE Engine JTA Transaction Xml for table TABLE could not be ana

I'm having a weird case. I created 3 entity bean. In my R/3 will call this JCO.Function to do the insert to database. But out of 3 entity bean, only 1 entity bean got error where it unable to insert to database and have this error in the log.
The case is quite weird where i created the same entity but only 1 entity is not working as expected. Wondering what cause this problem.

Hi Stefan and Everyone,
I have solved my problem. Just want to let everyone know if u have to install the SP's for WEB AS 6.30/6.40.
You start from the installation from CD 6.30/6.40. Everything will be working at this point. You can login to Visual Admin, Config tool and SDM.
Before you apply any SP's, do the following:
a) Create an emergency user with the Administrator rights: Ref OSS Note:669848
Try to follow this route for SP's:
From CD 6.30/6.40 -> SP04 -> SP07
Apply SP04 first before applying SP07 (Recommended Approach).
Refer the installation guide: SAP Web AS Support Package Guide 630SP2 to 640SP4.
Use JDK1.4.2_05 to install SP04. You must reference the following OSS Notes and apply to your system accordingly, this is the key to an error free installation:
a) OSS Note: 697535
b) OSS Note: 709140
c) OSS Note: 716604
d) OSS Note: 706378
You have to be really careful with SP04 installation, because it changes the version from 6.30 -> 6.40.
Once you are able to install SP04 without any problems, you can directly apply SP07 or the highest 6.40 SP.
Kind Regards,
Buddha.

• I am having a lot of trouble with my mac.

About a week ago I wrote a question about the flashing question mark when starting the computer. After many days of having that problem, I manage to make it work by unplugging the battery and when starting holding the option and shiftt keys. However las Sunday I manage to make a bak up of the information in my mac and reseted the computer. When I reseted the computer it was working all ok.
I have to make clear that at this time, the back cover had no screws in, as apparently without the screws it was causing less problems.
Once the computer was reseted and the software were working fine, I decided to put the screws back in. ( I had turned the computer off to put the screws back).
When I turned the computer on again,  the question mark Icon on the file came up again. Reason which I turned it off again, unplugged the battery press the power button whilst the battery was unplugged to some sort of resetting.  Plaggged the battery in and worked. It was only telling me that the date and time were back in 1/1/2008 and changed it to the actual date and time. After that the computer was fine starting up with no problem. I decided to ask my huisband to put the screws back in for me. ( I wasnt sure if it was me putting them back in very tight) when my husband put the screws back in, the computer started to play up again. When I came home from work I started to try and make it work again, as I had done before unplugging the battery and pressing the power button whilst unplugged etc. and didnt work. I called then to apple support, and he told me that it was a very weird case as the screws has nothing to do with the operative system or software.  He told me that holding: comand +option+control+shift would do the same effect as unplugging the battery. However he also told me that it could be a problem with the hard drive as the file with the question mark was very frequent and that it happens when it cannot find the system to run. After talking with him, I tried the 4 keys as he told me but I think that in one occasion I release one of them and the computer turned on and I kept holding the 4 keys. After that, didnt start, so my husband told me to reset the compute again, and put in the "snow leopard" cd to reset the computer.
in addition to that and to top it off, when I was running the installation cd, it only goes to "select the disk where you want to install" but it doesn't show any disk to select and when I try to eject the cd doesn't work either.
Could the fact that I pressed and hold the 4 keys, command, option, control and shift at the time and I accidentally turn the computer on holthing them together have cancelled the disk or deactivate it?
I don't know If I have made my self clear or not. But need oppinions or if someone knows what can b wrong and what can I do?
Thank you all for the help.

It sounds like either your hard drive or the SATA cable that connects it to the motherboard are failing. This could be heat related in your case, which is why you see it after it runs awhile. You can take it to the Genius Bar for a free evaluation. If you decide to test it yourself, I usually suggest moving the hard drive to an external enclosure. If it works there for awhile, the cable is probably the issue.

I've got an extremely weird case on my hands. This is version 1,1 of the white Macbook (2006, I believe).
Backstory/experiences so far:
I've been using Macs since 1990, and this is the first one I bought used. Might have been a mistake.
Everything was fine for a few months, until one day the computer was nonresponsive. No chime, no lights, nothing. The charge light on the magnetic power cable would light up and change from orange/green on a full charge, but that was it. Other than that, the computer behaved as if the battery had simply been removed.
Every time I walked by the laptop after that, I'd try the power button, just to see if it would turn on. A day or two later, it did. The little Macbook ran like nothing had ever been wrong.
A week later, something similar happened. This time, I heard the disk spin up, saw the power light come on, but never got to a chime. Later, an Apple Genius-bar-person would tell me that this means the initial system check failed. After turning it on, it acted like I had put it into hibernate. The only way to turn it off was to force-shutdown or let the battery die.
I sent it in to AppleCare, and they responded by telling me there was significant liquid damage which voided my warranty, and that I needed a new motherboard. Dead computer.
That was a year ago. I simply switched to using my desktop Mac, until...
A few weeks ago, I saw an ad for someone who fixes liquid spill apple laptops. He told me that often, the small power nodes (/chips?) on the motherboard short out, even though the board itself is fine. He replaced these, I paid him happily, and two days ago I had my little Macbook back.
I was able to use it like nothing had ever happened. About a week later, after a few hours of use in the morning, I powered the Macbook down and left the house. Three hours later, I tried to power it up again. Nothing. Totally unresponsive; back to paperweight mode. The battery lights on the battery case were active when it was plugged into AC, I should note.
I went back to my tried-and-true method of pressing the power button every time I walked by the Macbook. Six hours later, it worked again, suddenly powering up as if nothing had happened.
That was two weeks ago. Since then, it's often gone into paperweight mode, but it always comes back between 15 and 45 minutes later. Most recently, it's been turning on about 10 minutes after I hit the power key. It's hilarious...I try to turn it on, fail, yell and swear, and leave the room. 15 minutes later I hear a chime, and see that the little Macbook is booting up without help from any physical beings. I'm starting to believe in ghosts, guys...
I'm writing this on the Macbook in question, totally confused and completely afraid that it might never boot up again after I shut it down this time. Then again, it failed to start half an hour ago...but now, obviously, it's working fine.
Does anyone have an idea of just what the heck might be causing this? A loose wire inside? Evil spirits? Apple help in the store has been rather unhelpful (they didn't do much beyond chastising me for using an outside computer guy to replace the power chips...which worked great, by the way -- it eliminated the permanent-hibernation problem that killed the computer in 2007), and Apple on the phone have told me they deal mostly with software problems.
A few more facts/Summary:
-I'm no computer expert, but the official Apple party line I've heard so far is that "it's corrosion/tertiary effects from a liquid spill." That doesn't sound likely to me. If it's a corroded wire or component, why has the Powerbook NEVER died while it was being used? It won't start when it doesn't feel like it, sure, but it's never died while I was using it.
-There seem to have been 2 problems, the first of which is fixed now...
1. no startup chime followed by permanent hibernation. Replacing the power(chips? Nodes?) on the motherboard seemed to fix this "fail to finish booting" problem. This is NOT a problem anymore.
2. The "play dead" problem, where hitting the i/o key won't do anything for a while, and then suddenly works. Sometimes the Macbook boots when I'm pushing the button, sometimes it ghost-boots while I'm in the other room. I have no idea what fixes the "play dead" problem, it just seems to go away after a few hours.
-The computer has never died while it was running. It's always after a perfectly normal (seeming) shutdown that it simply refuses to start back up again.
-I Don't fully trust the battery. The battery pretends to be full, but according to the little orange light on the AC power cable, is ALWAYS charging (even when the green LEDs on the bottom of the battery indicate "full"). The computer has not been able to boot on battery power alone (i.e. with the AC cable unplugged) in at least a week. I have it plugged in any time I boot successfully.
-The Apple-store guy (who seemed to know what he was talking about, but also seemed to hate me) checked the serial number on the Macbook, and confirmed that it's pretty much been a defective unit from the start. Since 2006, EVERY YEAR has seen a new logic board. That's 4 logic boards this computer has gone through, not to mention a new optical drive the first year, and several other major repairs. I had no idea that was the state of affairs when I bought it...frankly I'm amazed that Apple kept fixing this unit instead of confiscating it to figure out what is really causing all of these component failures.
I know this is a lot of information, but I'm trying to present the facts as I know them...I just have no idea which facts will be important, so you get all of them. Any help would be appreciated. I've tried googling around, but I'm not even sure what to search for. On an even sadder note, I spent 2 hours looking at non-Apple PCs last week (all I can afford if this one dies), and I really don't want to have to go down that road. Not after 20 years of faithful Apple/Macintosh usage.
Thanks in advance, and my apologies for the long post.

Important plot point here. I missed it on my first read through...

That computer is dead. You were ripped off. No other explanation for it.

It is a moot point. Once it gets wet, all bets are off and no reputable repair person will touch it.

I'm sure he doesn't hate you. He just hates seeing unhappy customers that he can't help.

Well, you also know that the previous owner poured liquid in it. What else did they do to it before that wasn't so noticeable?
Just buy a new Mac. Get an official refurbished one even. That will still be better than the piece of junk you were sold before.

• Return Order Changed/Re-assigned to Diff Sales Order

Hi All SD gurus,
I have a very weird case here and am wondering whether anyone can gives me some leads here.
A return order ( customized ) was created with reference to a Sales Order. A subsequent return delivery and Post Goods Receipt was performed. Looking at the doc flow, let say Return Order <i>ABC</i> is attached to Sales Order 9-001. After awhile, upon rechecking, Return Order ABC was now assigned to another Sales Order 9-003 and Sales Order 9-001 is now assigned to a new Return Order <i>BCD</i>. Sales Order 9-001 also has subsequent Credit memo Request, Credit memo and Purchase Order.
What could be the possibility of this happenning. I have checked on the change history for return order <i>ABC</i> but there's no indication of deletion or re-assignment. I am totally puzzled by this case. I have tried checking in OSS but seems like i can't find the relevant raised issue.
This case is indeed very weird and my apology for posting it in the first place but I'm running out of ideas on how this can be happenning. Any leads will be very very much appreciated here.
Warmest Regards and Thanks in advance,

• Read Only ID Columns

Hi,
I have several simple look up tables with two columns, ID and DESCRIPTION.
ID is a numeric primary key.
They have been put into their own groups with the Layout Style set to "table".
The ID attribute's "Updateable?" has been set to "When New".
My problem is that when I go to the pages that edit these tables, some of the ID columns
are editable while some of the ID columns are read-only. I want all of the ID columns
to be read-only (except for the new row).
The ID attribures look identical in the ADF BC Properties Editor for all of the tables.
Where else should I look for differences?
Cheers,
Patrick Cimolini

Patrick,
Actually, the line should not be present in the View Object file. Only if it is cleared, the value from the Entity Object should be picked up. I have experimented a bit and I could reproduce one weird case.
Start by going to the Entity attribute and set it to 'Always'. Then go to the View attribute and set it to 'Always' as well. Now check the ViewObject xml file. The 'isUpdateable' attribute should NOT be there now! If it is, something weird is going on and I would close JDev, remove the attribute in notepad and launch JDev again.
In the next bit, take care you follow the steps in this exact order. Go to the View Object attribute, and set it to 'While New'. Go to the Entity Attribute and set it to 'Never'. Go back to the View Object attribute. It will now be set to 'Never' and you won't have the option to put it back to 'While New' or 'Always' (greyed out). All very nice and logical, but if you look at the View Object XML file, it still says 'isUpdateable="while_insert"'. This is indeed an inconsistency between the JDev GUI and the actual XML file. As JHeadstart uses the XML file, it will use the 'while_insert' instead of the 'Never' that both the Entity and ViewObject GUI are showing you.
However, this is the only problem I have found. Could you please make sure that if you set everything back to 'Always', if necessary remove that 'isUpdateable' attribute from the ViewObject XML file as I mentioned above, then only set the 'While New' at the Entity level, and make sure that the 'isUpdateable' property is NOT present at the ViewObject XML file, if everything works as expected when running the generator?
Kind regards,
Peter Ebell

• Extreme charging and syncing issues

Okay, so for the past few weeks I've been developing charging and syncing issues. The first third party usb cable worked for a while and after some point it begin to physically wear and tear, and wires were disconnecting. Needed a new charger, so naturally I went and got another one. However, it didn't work, and as a measure to see if it was faulty, I plugged in the old one and smelt smoke/a burn smell.
So, I plugged the new charger into an old ipod touch 2G and it charges and syncs just dandy. The 3GS is a particularly weird case here; as it will not charge while on. After letting it die, I plugged it in and got an empty battery indicator with a charging (lightning) symbol, and after a couple of minutes it powered back on, but still wasn't charging once ios actually booted up. Weird, right? If I could connect to windows I could restore it to remove the jailbreak, as using Erase All Content and Settings keeps the phone in an endless loop until I hard reset.
The kicker here is that it seems to only charge when it's off, as if its plugged in and you slide to power off, and turn it back on later, it will sometimes have a higher percentage. And, at the place I work, we have many iPads so I plugged it up to the iPad chargers and it worked with some of them, albeit slower then expected.
Is my phone not getting enough voltage or something of the nature? I have 3 wall adaptors, one apple, and two of them standard LG adaptors, and a third party usb cable that notably works for the iPod just fine. I've connected it to 3 different computers with itunes and the result was the same as if it was dead and plugged into the wall; enough power to boot to home screen then die afterwards.
The thing that get's me is when I hit Erase All Content and Settings and it's plugged, it makes a charging noise indication but only when I hit that reset button. If it wasn't for that, I would beleive it was a hardware issue. That, or I'm just trying to deny the phone's inevitable fate. I needed a reason to switch to the 4s, so maybe this is it. I don't like giving on on something without fixing it though so it's gonna bother me until I do.
Thanks for any suggestions or help!

• 16 bit/14bit nefs opening in P/S from camera raw 5.2 as 8 bit images

I am downloading 16 bit nefs (D300) from card reader with cs4 bridge. In bridge I can check the meta data and see that they are 16bit but when I open in camera raw 5.2 then do the open file in photoshop form there they open as 8bit files instead of 16bit as I expected. I tryed the convert to dng on the import and get same 8bit results. I am using windows xp pro. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? I have slow dial up here so do not have my work photoshop computer hooked to net for help files from bridge and photoshop. Also have Shewes new real world camera raw and his deal with Martin Eweing preordered from amazon but don't know when they will come.

>I'm having trouble understanding the jargon though. Are you saying that the sensor data is read more slowly in 14-bit, which reduces the noise floor? and that is is only of any benefit when used at the lowest noise ISO (ie 200)?
Yeah that is basically the idea. A different read-out path or set of amplifiers is used or it is simply "read slower" which can, in principle, reduce noise. Not something that is inherent to 14 vs 12 bits but more to the way the data is read. If the noise stayed the same and it is in the lower 2 bits of the 12 bits converter, there is no point as the only thing you're doing is more precisely imaging the noise. If however, the noise goes down a little going to the 14-bit readout method, you might get better signal to noise ratios and hence more shadow detail. This is all theory, and if you actually do the test with your camera, you'll see there is no difference in real world photos. The shadows would need to be really deep to see any of this. Basically you need to be boosting exposure by 3 or 4 stops AND applying shadow fill near 100. Not a realistic situation. To see it, you indeed need to be at a situation where the noise floor is significantly low, which means low ISOs on most cameras. At high ISO, there could be a difference because of differences in amplifiers, etc, but in practice that is not the case either on this camera. Other sources of noise drown it out completely.
>Is there no other benefit to post-processing? I'm not clear where the extra 2 bits go; is it increased resolution over the same dynamic range, or is the dynamic range extended? Is this not also a factor in choosing 14 over 12?
There could be some benefit if the noise characteristics were significantly different. Lower noise means higher dynamic range and therefore better capability to extract detail from shadow areas. However, from my testing, in practice this does not happen on the D300. Other cameras might well show higher dynamic range and better detail in shadows at 14 bits. You can see some of this by looking at the dynamic Range charts on DxOmark.com where sensors of different cameras are tested. You need to be significantly above 11 to 12 EV for 14 bit capture to make a difference.
>Sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but you have to grab experts when you find some
The easiest thing is to test it. In realistic scenarios, I just cannot see any difference. If you contrive a completely weird case, such as underexposing an entire image by 8 stops, or pushing up shadows by as many stops, you can get into the range where it might make a difference. Those are just not real situations though.

• Forms 10g runs well in one computer but not others

Dear gurus,
i have installed my application server forms and reports 10g and manage to connect forms using mozilla firefox web browser (IE failed - i guess this one is IE bugs) in my own computer and it works very well in my own computer.
Weird case is when i tried using other computers to load my forms with same browser settings, it will stuck at the web browser stated opening but nothing is open (grey page after i click ok on the oracle message saying installation successful).
i even tried on the newly reformatted and reinstall windows xp computer also will have the same symptom - stuck at grey page. The problem is, i do not receive any error message beside the grey page thats why not really sure what is wrong.
