Weird circles on aluminum?

I just purchased a MacBook Air 13" about a week ago and I absolutely love it.
Today however, I noticed these two weird circles on the aluminum right beside my keyboard.
I've tried to clean it, however it doesn't seem like a spill. It almost seems like perfect circle scratches. They're really hard to see, you have to look closely.
I know it looks like a spill, but I've only had it for a week, and I know I haven't spilt anything on it as it hasn't been near any beverages, and I believe I would of noticed.

I would appreciate any insight on what this could be !

  • Weird circles in Aluminium?

    Hi there!
About 6 monthts ago i bought my first MBP - and yes, i love it, but..
As we all know Apple products is supposed to be great "quality". A short time ago I spotted some weirds "circles" on my MBP at spot where you place your hands when using the keyboard.
The first two pictures is showing the circles - one on each side. The pictures is taken with my iPhone 4 flashlight turned ON. The weird thing about the circles is that they are only visible when the light comes from a certain angle - i discovered them sitting in a train with the sun coming from the window.
When the light is'nt from the "right" side it's sometimes impossible to see the circles, meaning that it's not something made by myself. It's not a scratch making these circles, it's more like something cosmetic with the aluminium.
The two last pictures shows my MBP without "the right light" showing that the circles is almost impossible to see.
This might not be a serious problem, but knowing that i bought an Apple product thinking i'll get some great quality and end up getting something like this irritates me.
What would you do - and what do you think Apple will do?

Your photos aren't distinct enough for us to guess what might have caused the marks, and we (or anyone else) would probably need to see them in person to venture a guess about that. All we can see is that they exist. And there's no point in asking us to guess what Apple might do or say about them, because you can easily find out by asking Apple and showing the marks to them.
If I were Apple, I'd wonder how you could have failed to notice the marks for six months if they were there from the beginning, and I'd suspect they were the result of something that had happened to the machine during your ownership, rather than a manufacturing defect.
Well, I was creating this thread to get some information about the "issue". I tryed Googleing about this, but i could'nt find anything like it.
If course I'll call Apple, but today they're closed.
I noticed the one in the right side maybe one or two months ago. But I've been to busy to do anything about it.
Yesterday i discovered the one on the left side, and figured i had to do something about it - meaning it would be pretty easy to miss the spot if you don't move around with your laptop alot.

  • A weird circle is appearing on my photos

A weird circle is appearing on all of my photos that I take.
It's really odd and gets annoying after a while. I've been on holiday recently and they're litterally EVERYWHERE. Same size and same spot.
It's not the LCD and it's not the lens (from what I can see).
    http://min.us/mvbnwMN#1
    (The example album)
It happens everywhere.. Even when it's dark!
Should I send this back to Apple?
I'm also having trouble with cracks above the 'silent mode rocker', there's a crack in the plastic there.

Doubt it's the weather conditions then but it's still possible something like that could have affected it at one point so don't be suprised if they check the white tabs are still white at the bottom of the headphone jack and inside the 30-pin dock connector. They turn red due to moisture.  One other thing, it  could simply be a tiny piece of dust on the inside of the camera lens or on the sensor.  This could be really hard to spot too except in the photographs.  The main issues with the camera that I'm familiar with is a green or bluish tint in photographs which can happen under certain lighting conditions...
You shouldn't need insurance to sort this out though, since it should be covered under the manufacturer warranty if it's less than a year old.  Plus, I have a friend who purchased an iPhone 4 from Vodafone but had problems with it and took it to the Genius bar in the local Apple Store. He had the original box and everything and they just swapped it out for another brand new phone. He had his since September last year.
Good luck sorting it out, enjoy your holiday and let us know the outcome.

  • IMac G5 w/iSight With A Weird Circle

I'm having an odd problem with my 20" iMac. I bought a new HDD and I'm not able to get to the desktop so I can install it.
It seems I've tried everything but so far nothing works.
    Here's the problem:
no matter what key I hold down, or whether I have the HDD installed internally or externally, it starts right up and goes to the apple and spinning gear.
I'm using the correct start up disk for the iMac BTW. Anyway just when I think, all right here we go, I see a circle with a line through it where the apple was and I'm stuck.
There gear keeps spinning but nothing else happens and I have to shut it down. I've tried resetting the pram and using the option key key, which clearly shows the install disk which I choose, but again after a few seconds I get the circle with the line through it.
Do any of you have any ideas? Thank you!

Let us know how things turn out, and also, please put your model iMac (e.g. iSight) in your specs that appear at the bottom of your post, it makes things easier and helps us to make model appropriate suggestions.

  • I have a song on my ipod touch I can't get rid of. Even if I uncheck the artist and re-sync the file still is showing. It has a weird circle with a stop icon next to the file.

I also tried to manually manage the music files and removed them all from my ipod. But the file still remains. It only is appearing on my ipod touch, it does not show in itunes. And when I add the file that shows in itunes, it shows up twice. One is normal and the other has that stop button icon next to it. Please help.

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

  • Speakers no longer working on Mac- weird symbol won't let me change volume

    Hello
First off, I am not super computer savy!
My mac's internal speakers are no longer working. The volume control has faded in color, and when I try to press the volume buttons on the keyboard, it won't let me change the volume and there is a weird circle with a line through it. When I reboot the computer makes the reboot sound. I have tried tinkering around with the system preferences, but it is not muted, and it won't let me adjust the volume at all. This happened once before, the other day. Came out of nowhere and started working after about 10 minutes. Any suggestions! Much appreciated
    Kate

    Hi,
What output do you receive if you enter this command in the Terminal (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.app):
    <pre>codesign -vvv Safari.app</pre>
If Safari has been modified, such as by a Safari enhancer program, this command should inform you.
If that is the case, try reinstalling the Safari package from the 10.5 installer DVD. This article relates to reinstalling Safari from the 10.4 DVD, but the principle is the same.

  • Lion 10.7.2 Constantly Freezing Crashing on MacBook Pro

I am at my wits end! My MacBook Pro (MacBookPro2,2 2006) is constantly crashing and/or freezing. Everything was perfectly fine until I installed the 10.7.2 update. Then things started to get progressively worse. Now I can't go 15 minutes without the system freezing up or crashing. It crashes 20 times a day or more and is completely unusable at this point. I really need to get work done and don't know what else to do.
It doesn't seem to matter what applications are open. I thought at first maybe it was Safari or Mail but I've had it hang or crash with just the Finder open. Sometimes it just freezes up yet, if iTunes is playing music, the music will continue to play in the background but you can't interact with anything. Sometimes the mouse pointer will still move and sometimes it won't. Sometimes I'll get the spinning beachball of death. Other times it will just instantly restart on its own. A couple times the screen just rolled to grey then died. I never get a crash report that I can post or send to Apple.
I am very technically proficient and have done absolutely everything I can think of at this point including:
    * Resetting PRAM.
    * Repairing disk permissions and running a disk check
    * Ran TechToolPro and everything came back OK.
    * Updated all software and removed any weird kernal extensions.
    * Unhooked any attached peripherals.
    * Tried different networks or switching to wired ethernet.
    * Logged in with Shift key down so no extra software loaded.
The ONLY thing that seems to work is starting up in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key at boot. Which is what led me to think that maybe some rogue kernal extensions were to blame but I removed all but the blessed Apple extensions. Safe Mode loads only the most basic system software so is not very usable. The fact that it runs OK here makes me believe it must be a bug in Apples 10.7.2 update but who knoes what part since so much of the OS is not loaded in Safe Mode.
I've also tried running Apple Hardware Tests (AHT) but can't get it to run for the life of me. I followed another postwhere we copy the .diagnostics folder into /System/Library/CoreServices from the original software discs that came with the computer but holding down the "D" key on startup still doesn't invoke the tests. Won't run off the CD either. I get some weird circle with a slash through it. Going to take it in to the Genius Bar tomorrow and have them run the hardware tests. I'll report back after but I don't feel too sure they're going to have a good answer.
A side issue now is that, after all this, my MacBook Pro takes over half an hour to boot each time. It appears to be doing a Safe Boot no matter what even though I don't hold down the Shift key at startup. I always get the progress bar under the Apple logo and I think it is doing a fschk each time. But when it finally comes up it's not actually in Safe Boot mode. It never used to do this and I can't get it to stop. With all the crashes and now this incredibly long startup each time I'm about to throw this thing out the window.
I've read hundreds of other posts across the Internet with like experiences but no good answers. A lot of people seem to think it is an Nvidia graphics card related issue or a discrete graphics issue but my older machine doesn't have swithable graphics and it's card is ATI. But I do sometimes get strange graphic artifacts on the screen before it crashes and some Apps have lines through their interfaces so I'm wondering if the latest system update screwed up graphics drivers?
I'm posting here in the hopes that someone, anyone, can help me!!! I think Lion 10.7.2 has serious bugs and is one of the worst updates Apple has ever released.
Is anyone else having similar problems and does anyone out there have a solution?!!

FINALLY got Lion to produce a crash report during one of these disasters. Like my gut was telling me this seems graphics driver related. Here it is:

  • All of my music that wasn't purchased from the itunes store has been faded out on my ipod, despite me being able to play them in itunes. half my songs have exclamation points but only in the 'on this ipod' section, and when i double-click no window appear

I'm freaking out because almost all my music except for those songs purchased directly from the iTunes store has been deleted from my iPod - about 35 gigs. The songs show up, but they're all faded out and unplayable from my device (I have the newest version). Exclamation points appear beside all my songs in the "On this iPod" section, and yet I can't double-click to locate the files as nothing pops up. Some of my music has a weird circle next to it and is even more faded out when I'm in the "On this iPod" section - that's been happening for a couple of days. Yesterday I tried to set my settings to sync with my library only, and it worked, but this morning everything got even worse with the rest of my songs disappearing. What's happening???? Help??

The syncing of music is one way, computer to phone. See this helpful document from a fellow user. Credit goes to the author.

  • Why is ringtone in limbo in iTunes and missing from iPhone after last iOS 6 update?

I have a ringtone that I purchased that has now disappeared from my iPhone 5 after the last iOS 6 update. If I look in iTunes (which is an abomination in itself and not intuitive in any way), in the On This iPhone tab of the iPhone page, with Tones selected on the left hand side menu,
I see the ringtone "Stewie Mom Mom Mom" grayed out with a weird circle to the left of it . I have a second ringtone that is also visible there, with no weird circle.
If I go to the Tones tab of the iPhone page, I see that Sync Tones is checked and it shows 1 tone synched...the one without the weird circle shown in Tones.jpg is actually on my iPhone, so that is the 1 tone. No matter what I do to try to manually sync the tones to my iPhone, Stewie Mom Mom Mom is never copied to the iPhone.
Can somebody please tell me how to get this orphan ringtone back on my iPhone? What does the weird circle mean? I've gone to the iTunes store on my phone and also in the iTunes app on my computer and in both places when I view the ringtone in the store, it's acting like I never purchased it. It's not like $1.29 is so much that I wouldn't pay for the ringtone again, but honestly I don't trust that the ringtone won't be orphaned again and again, and I'm not just going to keep buying it over and over. HELP!

    This happened to me to.
It took me a while to figure out a solution, but this may or may not work for you.
Long story short, previous versions of iTunes used the Ringtones folder to store all tones, but now iTunes uses the Tones folder.
(I had copied my library of music from one computer to another, where the old computer used an older version of iTunes. I assume most users aren't affected by this, because they normally just upgrade iTunes on their primary computer, and the upgrade process probably takes care of renaming the Ringtones folder to Tones)
For example, my media folder is set to be:
    C:\Users\vincetg2\Music
so all my old tones files were in:
    C:\Users\vincetg2\Music\Ringtones
but iTunes was expecting them to be in:
    C:\Users\vincetg2\Music\Tones
To solve this, I moved all the files in the 'old' Ringtones folder to the 'new' Tones folder (you should create it if it's not already there):
then dragged the files into iTunes' Tones section:
and then synced (erase and sync) the tones over to my iPhone:
    I hope this helps!

  • Adobe Bridge Changed Cr2 Files to CR2.Jpg

I'm so exhausted trying to figure this out! I'm a new Photoshop user. Just purchased it. Imported or opened Canon 40D raw files to see slideshow. I usually copy the original raw file from the cf card to a folder on my external drive. Now I need to go in and edit them in Lightroom 2.5 and I only see a small size ( 256x170) file "IMG_8611.CR2.jpg (what?). Does Adobe Bridge change file formats on its own? This is scary! Are the original cr2 files still located somewhere on the external drive? What's going on here? Also, is there any person to person support at Adobe? This is terrible. Thanks.

In the first post you said you edited the RAW file in Lightroom.  Now you do not mention it.  Where are you editing the file?  If in Lightship I don't believe the normal mode is to generate a XMP file.
When you open Photoshop it does not automatically open camera raw, so confused here also.
The least confusing way to edit is to open Bridge and right click on RAW file, then choose "open in camera raw".  You edit and then click done to save edits, or open image to go to PS.  If you double click image it will open PS and the same ACR window.
You can set up Bridge so that the external drive is a "favorite".  Beware that if you have Bridge set to "open on startup", the external drive may not be recoginzed as Bridge can load before the computer can recognize it is connected.  Disable this function.
You say "I go to the folder and open the image directly into Camera Raw".  Is this a separate window with all the adjustment sliders that is titled "Camera Raw 5.x"?  Once you do your edits here and click Done it saves the edits and puts a little weird circle in upper right corner of thumbnail to show it has been edited.  If you click Open Image it opens it in PS with the edits.
How do you save the picture once you have made your edits, Done, Save, Save As, or ?
You ask "Is there a way to find where the XMP's are and if I can find my original CR2 file in there somewhere? "  As I said in previous post you use Win. Explorer.  It should be in same folder as file, with same name.  NOTE - not all files generate an XMP file, depends on the edit.  Some of the info is written directly to the file.

  • Middle mouse button does not open tab with new url

Suddenly, Firefox (3.6.10 on Kubuntu) changed the behavior of the middle mouse button.
Before, pressing the middle mouse button on the regular window (not tab bar or tool bar or such) and not on a link caused Firefox to open a new tab and to attempt to load the content of the buffer as URL.
Now, Firefox shows a weird circle with arrows and my page scrolls vertically in a weird way.
How to get back the original behavior?
I tried to find a solution on the web. Despite the many suggestions, the problem prevailed. For example, browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick and middlemouse.contentLoadURL are both true

Very glad to see I am not alone. Alas....that answer did nothing on my system. I also am very very frustrated that, all of a sudden, my middle mouse button brings up a weird four pointed arrow! (see pic) I NEED it to open links in tabs for researching!!
I turned off auto scrolling in the advanced settings. Restarted FF even...and nada.
I have disabled every single add on I had (only like 6 of them)...and nothing.
This happened all the sudden...I dont even know of an update. FF v3.6.10

Does anyone know an easy way to correct this before I premiere it?

Desaturate it in Color Corrector Numerical and then adjust other parameters if needed.

Yeah, drop the teacher and get a copy of Effective Java instead. And The Elements of Java Style.
You already have a nested class, although not an inner class. The nested class in this case is entirely pointless.
Ways you could improve your code:
    - Don't get user input inside of the constructor.
The constructor will block (it won't finish) if input isn't provided on the console. That's bad. And since the object has nothing to do with I/O or parsing, it's bad that it could throw exceptions about that.
A much better approach would be to get the user input somewhere else, turn it into a number type somewhere else, and then finally create the circleInfo object using the number.
    - Drop this weird Circle/circleInfo dichotomy. What's it supposed to mean? If I told you vocally (without looking at code) that there was a Circle and a CircleInfo, what would you think the difference would be? (In particular, if CircleInfo holds information about a circle, then what's Circle for?) You should use nested classes when they're useful, not just for the hell of it.
    - Make the Circle class (since circleInfo no longer exists) immutable. Its fields should be final.
    - Follow naming conventions

  • Aluminum Keyboard weirdness

Just got the new Aluminum keyboard from Apple. I cannot figure out how to use the sound volume keys or brightness keys. When I press one, it acts as an F-key and activates some software function. Have tried using shift or alt when pressing the keys, since they apparently have dual functionality, but no go. Tried the fn key, which ought to switch the functionality. Keyboard preferences are set properly, as far as I can tell. Not many options. I must be missing something very simple.

Apple lists only one Bluetooth adapter that they've tested--the D-Link USB Bluetooth Adapter, part number DBT-120, rev. B2 or later. You might find it at some online Mac sales companies, like Otherworld Computing (www.macsales.com), Small Dog (www.smalldog.com), etc. Or just enter "D-Link USB Bluetooth Adapter DBT-120" into your favorite search engine.

  • Touchpad - after latest update, weird grey circle icon appears

    X201s
Win 7 32, up to date
After the latest set of updates, my touchpad took to displaying a stationary gray circle/swirl half the time when I tried to move the cursor. Seemed to happen less if I moved very slowly. I turned off scrolling (again), and it's mostly gone away. Can anyone confirm that this is related to scrolling?
