Weird Color in preview monitor

I recently started a new session in Color and found that my preview window (above the scopes) is not displaying a standard video image but what appears to be false color or something like it. I am using Color with a Matrox MXO (and have for several other projects without this issue) so I can see the proper image on my second display. But this is a little annoying. Anyone ever see anything like this or know what I might be doing wrong? Here is a photobucket image of what it looks like if you are curious: http://s835.photobucket.com/albums/zz279/caseyhayward/?action=view&current=Pictu re1.png&newest=1

1) Is any other app using the same output card? I've had some strange behavior (not this, exactly) when both FCP and Color are open and trying to access the same output. If you toggle the preview display to "None" and back does that help?
2) I'm guessing if you restart the computer and reopen the project this still happens. If you send another sequence to Color does it have the same problem?

  • Preview monitor not displaying properly

i just did a clean install of leopard, then did a clean install of FCS2, and then ran all the updates. a couple days later i try to run color (which worked on this machine when i had tiger)and the preview window is very funky and not usable. i have attached a screenshot. i tried restarting, tried other clips, tried other formats- but nothing seems to get the preview to actually display the video properly.
color did work on this exact setup before i upgraded the OS. I bought anew harddrive and installed everything from scratch. i have the ati x1900 as the main card with pcie lane width set to 16 as well as an ati hd 2600xt with the lane width set to 1x. i have a mac pro with 8 gigs of ram, 8 core x 3.0ghz.
working with prorez footage. no special hardware add ons at all. sent to color command in fcp kept causing a crash as soon as i tried to playback in color (and preview monitor still didn't work).
here is a link to a screeshot of what the monitor previews.

Colormunki is a known no-no with Color. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8640308&#8640308
Searching the forum can reveal your answers, if you use the search function.
However, a color profiler does nothing to help you with regard to consistent color when working with video. Again, you need to use a video input/output device (I sound like a blasted broken record with this) with a video display device capable of a daily setup, like a projector or a video crt or flat panel. Using computer monitors with Color is worthless.

  • Second monitor displays weird colors

    Hi there,
Yesterday I bought a Displayport to HDMI adapter (Mini DisplayPort Male - HDMI female) for my MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2011 version). I use this to connect my MacBook Pro to my Philips 32" television. Everything has been set up (I've adjusted the resolution of the TV to 1080p and put my refresh rate to 50 hz since my TV doesn't support 60 hz). But once in every 5 - 15 minutes or so, my screen turns green for a brief second and suddenly my background or whatever is on my second monitor turns in to weird colors. Sometimes it takes about 2 or 3 seconds and it switches back to how it normally was, but sometimes it takes way longer. I don't mirror my screen, I use it as a second display. But I can't figure out why the screen it switching betweens there colors and don't know how to fix it. I've looked it up on the internet, but couldn't find anything useful. So I hope you guys could help me with this.
    Thanks in advance.

To my knowledge, the photo of a domain user is stored in the thumbnailPhoto

  • Monitor gets with weird color

    Hi,
It just happened, I was working with Final Cut, I left the laptop while it was exporting a file to convert into a QT . Later I went to the computer and the monitor had a weird color something like decolored (instead of gray it was violet).
Does anybody has an idea about it?

Could be video chipset issues due to overheating, especially since it went away after a short rest. When working with a CPU-intensive program like FCP, you should make sure the case bottom and the exhaust vent under the hinge on the back edge are unobstructed. They are critical to good cooling. If you use the PB with an external monitor with the lid closed, that also runs up temps. You may wish to consider a laptop cooler to help move air across the case bottom.
    A Dashboard widget like this:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
will let you monitor some temps on your PowerBook.

  • Preview Monitor?

So on my pc I have Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and I have the preview play in the canvas and on a preview monitor at the same time. I am trying to do the same thing on my mac pro. I want final cut to preview to my canvas and preview monitor at the same time just like I have in Premiere. I have an iLink cable from the mac pro to a HVRM15 and from there component cables to the hdtv. How do I set final cut to output a preview to this monitor?
    Thanks

    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
Shane's Stock Answer #8: External Monitor Viewing
If you are working with DV, this is simple. First connect your computer to a camera or deck via firewire, Then connect the camera/deck to your TV/monitor via RCA or S-Video.
Then start up your camera and TV, then open FCP.
Go to the View Menu, choose > External Video > All Frames
VIEW>Video Playback should be “Apple Firewire NTSC” (If you are using an NTSC set)
VIEW>Audio playback should be “Audio follows Video”
Technically, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the A/V DEVICES tab.
If you are working with HDV footage, FCP 6 allows you to view this via firewire, but ONLY as downconverted DV. It won't look the best, but you can see it. To do this,
If you need to view any format other than DV at full resolution, then you need to look into capture cards. Several standard definition and high definition models are available from www.aja.com and www.decklink.com. With these options you'll need a proper monitor to view full broadcast colors, but all models allow for realtime standard definition downconvert, allowing you to view HD on an SD monitor.
The Matrox MXO is another option that is output only, but allows you to view your footage on an Apple Cinema Display at full broadcast quality.

  • Preview monitor problem

Hello, so I have an issue with preview monitor in Premiere Elements 10.
Video I am editing only shows when I click into the monitor, If I want to play the whole thing than the frame is frozen and audio plays fine.
I've reinstalled everything to double check, even OS Win7. Problem still exists. This makes the editing just not possible.
This problem is aslo happening with all video formats(avi,mp4,mov,png, even jpg). The only thig that seems to work is content generated within premiere(bars, titles, color backgrounds).
    Thanks for any help.

I did not write the "same" thing. Let me explain.
I cannot explain how protomace found your "preferences" directions and what was found. But, you are not going to find the Premiere Elements settings file (aka preferences) by the route that you posted. For the advantage of this user and others reading this thread, I thought it important to call attention to this.
    Specifically
    1. You wrote
Go to below mentioned location and reset the folder named as 10.0 and try to launch premier elements
    c:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Elements 10.0/10.0
There is no Premiere Elements 10.0 Folder in the correct route.
In that Adobe Folder in that above path, there is a folder named Premiere Elements 10.0 which also contains a 10.0 Folder, but that is not where you want to be if you are interested in settings file (aka preferences).
    2. I thought that you might want the opportunity to be more specific for the benefit of this user and others who might read your post(s).
    a. "reset" was not defined by you
    b. other as per my post 5.
Thanks for the opportunity to clarify these points for you.
Please do not hesitate to ask if you have further questions on this. Please double check the path that you cited versus the one that I did and compare. With the path that you gave, I think that you would end up with a Trace Database.txt file. How were you planning on resetting preferences from that?
    Thank you.

  • Over saturated web colors & Wide Gamut monitors

I'm trying to create a new portfolio website but I'm going crazy with the colour saturation when viewing the site on my wide gamut monitors. Reds are horrendously over-saturated compared to my colour managed apps like Photoshop and even OS X Preview.
The website looks OK on the ipad mini and iPhone 4 and looks a little better on OS X 10.8, but on my main workstation (which uses 10.7.5) its horrible. I have a Dell U2711 IPS monitor which has a wide gammut, and all my web browsers (Safari, Firefox, Chrome) and the Finder of all things display my images super-saturated. Doing a Quick View in the Finder shows the image correctly but icon view is super saturated. Very odd.
Is there a way to fix this? I've tried stripping out the embedded sRGB profile from the web images but I get the same when I preview the image in a browser. Choosing Proof>Monitor Colour in Photoshop gives the same oversaturated result.
I use Xrite Colormunki for screen callibration.

I'm using the Spider Pro to calibrate my monitor and everything looks great in Photoshop, Illustrator and Firefox 3.5 with color management turned on. But the lack of color management in Fireworks is still a problem because I'm not seeing the colors the way they will look on most people's monitors. I can't design unless I can see what most people will be seeing.
Fireworks should be using that ICC profile that my calibrator generated but instead its sending the colors to the monitor raw. This is what's causing the over-saturation. This really is quite unacceptable.

  • How to change background color in preview mode?

After entering by chance presentation mode and had to quit indesign for exit (esc key doesn't work on my iMac), I found that the background color in preview mode is now black instead of grey.
There is any way to change it?

In Edit- preferences go to Guides and Pasteboard and choose preview color

  • VISTA color management and monitor calibration

    Elements 7.0
    VISTA Home Premium SP1
    Nvidia 8600
    Samsung SyncMaster 213T
    Canon XSi
    Multiple printers
Since getting new system with Vista, I haven't been able to get a print that looks like my screen. I tried Costco today and everything was much darker than I expected, but the reds were much richer. I read a lot about calibrating my monitor, but it is possible that there is more do it than that? Learning to adjust skin tone etc. in Photoshop, only to have the prints look bad is pretty frustrating.
Is the other option to invest in a quality printer, or go to a real lab instead of Costco?
Please use small words, since I'm not a professional.
    Regards,
    Michael

Michael, color management is certainly a difficult issue to perfect. My monitor is color calibrated but it doesn't guarantee that the prints will match. With the same image, I get different results from different printers and labs. I get the best results from labs in the local camera/photo shops, and the pricing for enlargements is still on par with like Snapfish or Kodak.
Check this setting in PSE: Edit>Color Settings...>Always Optimize for Printing. I would suggest color calibrating your monitor, then try different labs until you find the best results.

  • External Preview Monitor

I have searched multiple forums but haven't found the exact answer I am looking for.
Mac Pro Quad Core 2.93, 8GB. Doing one hour projects for local T.V. station. Looking for a method to get a 'external preview monitor' to see what it will actually look like when on T.V.
Looking at this as an option.
    http://www.macmall.com/ttsvr/p/Peripherals/product~dpno~466290~pdp.cffhead#tabspages.productDetailPage@1380
Its the DeckLink SDI on this page.
    http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/decklink/
Will this work? Output will probably be to a cheap SD TV.
Sorry if this has been a repeated question, but I could find it.
    Thanks.

If you are working in DV (not SD), a simple analog/DV converter feeding a regular ol' TV will work. Most DV cameras have this capability.

  • Audio is Out of Sync on NTSC Preview Monitor

    Hello FCP Gurus,
I recently was hired by a local Broadcast TV Affiliate and I am looking at their FCP systems. I noticed that one of the suites has a big problem with the NTSC Preview Monitoring, the audio is way out of sync.
    Here's the set up:
    G5 Dual 2GHZ
    3GB RAM
1 Internal Western Digital SATA 160GB (System Drive)
1 Internal Maxtor SATA 300GB (Media Drive and back up system drive)
    2 Monitors
    MAC OSX 10.4.3
    FINAL CUT PRO 4.5
    AJA IO LA
So when I play back anything in the timeline the audio on the external NTSC monitor is way off, not just a little bit but a ton. I am not sure why. I know that usually there is some delay but not this much. Is there a way to configure it without any delay? The computer monitor with the FCP canvas and viewer are dead on but the NTSC is way off, it is ahead of the video.
Also, when I am editing in the timeline I have to switch the AV setting from ProIO to Built In and then I can here it. When I insert back to BetacamSP through the AJA box I have to switch it back to ProIO to lay it to tape. While it is laying to tape I cannot hear the audio or even see the FCP meters. But when I play back what I just put down on the Beta deck, the aduio is fine. The decks are in the operations rooms almost on the other side of the building.
This maybe OK for 30 sec promos but for 30 minute shows this will drive me crazy. I am responsible for all elements, including audio.
    Thanks in advance.
    Alex

make sure the audio is following the video.
if you are viewing video on an external monitor, make sure the audio is routed [i[the exact same path to the audio monitors. If you have the video going out through the AJA and the audio out directly from the computer, there will be a processing differential that you will hear as lag.
Also, make sure you have the most recent AJA drivers.
    good luck.

  • Video playback in preview monitors appears as a jagged mess

Video playback in the preview monitors appears as a jagged mess. The audio plays perfectly. I am using Premiere Pro CS4 4.2.1, only DV NTSC. I have checked all my settings, have found nothing that will fix this. What could be causing this problem?

More computer information might help... http://forums.adobe.com/message/4200840
Especially the exact brand/model of your graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???) and the exact device driver number
IF you have an nVidia card...
Right click in any open area of the Windows desktop
Select NVIDIA Control Panel from the popup window
Select SYSTEM INFORMATION at the lower left corner
Driver version should be the 1st line in Details

  • New iMac display problem(?) - weird colors and grain

    Hello,
I'm a fresh mac user, made the switch this monday (August 27th) when my 24" iMac 2.4GHz C2D arrived. After using it for a while, I noticed a handful of dead pixels, and a semi-bright green stuck one. I thought I'd wait and see how disturbing I would find them before raising an issue about them.
Well, yesterday I decided to make my first backup of the whole system to my external 500GB Lacie drive (connected with FW800) using Super Duper!, which to my understanding is a reasonably sturdy and reliable backup application.
During the first backup iteration I started to notice some alterations in color in the top middle part of the display. I then returned to whatever I was doing (not on the mac, I had no other applications running, just Super Duper!), and after a while took another look at the display. The weird colored area had expanded, and the whole display had become somewhat grainy. Also, the backup process had slowed down quite a bit (from ~30MB/s to ~7-8MB/s).
So I cancelled the backup operation and logged out and back in again. No change. Then I restarted the whole system, which booted just fine, with none of the aforementioned problems. Even the second backup iteration went without problems.
Still, it's a new (and with my budget, quite expensive) computer, and if I get this kind of problem during the first week, I cannot continue using it happily in the fear of these problems reoccurring time and again.
I took a couple of pictures of this, one during and one after the problem. The quality of these are quite lousy, they're taken with my Nokia 9500 Communicator.
    During the problem:
    http://iki.fi/aita/imac/01notok.jpg
    After rebooting:
    http://iki.fi/aita/imac/02_ok.jpg
The images are taken in the same light conditions, but from slightly different viewing points. Note: The first image does not present reflections, it's how the screen looked (actually, in real life it looked somewhat worse)
    What do you think?
Could this be a driver related issue or have I received bad hardware?
My drivers and Apple software should be up to date (at least OS X informs me that everything is, and I haven't found newer graphics drivers anywhere).
If anyone has had the same or related problems or know how I should proceed with this matter, I would be grateful.
    Thank you in advance!

So far the only fix suggested has been to call apple and get a replacement. I'm still.....still waiting for mine to make it slowly across the ocean from China, so I don't know how the new one is working. I'd call Apple and request a new one.
