Weird colored patterns in RGB mode document with Illustrator CC

Hi guys,
I'm having weird glitches in Illustrator CC: when I open a new document with RGB mode, the artboard displays colored patterns :
These patterns change when I move inside the artboard, when I zoom in ...
I don't have this behavior when I work with a CMYK.
It seems to be a graphic card issue but I don't have problem with other software (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere ...) and my computer is brand new.
I have a Lenovo ThinkPad W540 (http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/w-series/w540/ with Windows 7 64 bits.
Thank you !

Other than that are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, font validation, etc.)?

  • Limit Color Pallet in RGB Mode

Is there a way to limit the amount of colors available for use in RGB mode? I know that in Indexed Mode, you can limit it to, say, 256 colors, but then so many of Photoshop's features aren't enabled anymore.
Can the color pallet in RGB mode be limited to  256 colors (or any amount of colors we choose)?

Good idea. But the problem is when mixing those two colors together using the mixer brush - it then utilizes the millions of colors in the RGB pallet to smoothly blend those 2 colors together.
If the pallet was restricted to 256 for example, then when using the mixer brush to blend, I'm guessing the blend would appear more pixellated because of the restriction on the amount of colors.
To answer my own question however, I tried adding a Posterize adjustment layer on the very top of the layer stack, then reducing the number of levels to somewhere between 10-15 levels.
It seems to be acheiving what I'm looking for, although I was hoping for a native way to restrict the color pallet without having to use adjustment layers

  • Opening mov files - weird color patterns + freeze

    Hi,
Suddenly when opening mov files, quicktime shows weird colors instead of a video. It also takes a long time to open, and quicktime then hangs. I don't know what I installed that could have caused the problem. I tried reinstalling but that doesn't help.
I use vegas as video editor, and there I can still import quicktime movies without problems.
It used to work before on my xp64pro!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it might be worth checking to see if you can just get away with disabling Direct3D accleration on the PC. it's also probably worth checking your video drivers too.

  • Weird bug?  Transparent background is black instead of checkerboard in RGB mode

If I try to make a new RGB document with the Background Contents set to Transparent the canvas is filled with black instead of the checkboard pattern.  However over in the Layers window the little icon for the layer shows it as transparent with the checkerboard. In the Channels window it also appears transparent, and if I click on one of the channels which selects just one of them the canvas changes from black to the checkboard.  If I click on the RGB channel at the top the canvas changes to black again.
Why is this happening and how do I fix it?
If I open a new document in CMYK I get the checkerboard like I'm supposed to.
I bought a new PC a few days ago and this is a fresh install of Adobe CS4 on Windows 7.  Photoshop is updated to version 11.0.2.
I could swear this wasn't happening a couple of days ago when I first installed it, and it never happened on my old XP computer.
edit to add: all files show a black background in RGB mode instead of the checkerboard pattern, not just when creating a new document.

  • Styles (nested?) in Long Document with Color Coded Sections

Hi, I am looking for a solid style set-up for a document with seven color coded sections. The character, paragraph, table styles, etc. will be used throughout the book, but several of them (chapter headers, bold color, table strokes) will shift colors from section to section. What is the best way to set this up so I can still make other changes to the styles without having to edit each colored section separately.
    Thanks in advance,
    Marshall

In practice, I'm having rouble making this work.
I have one swatched, named "Section Color" and if I change the definition or CMYK recipie of that color it will ripple instantly through the styles( as you said,) I have swatches unchecked from the Syncronize Options, but upon syncing it still rewrites that CMYK recipie back to the style source's and all colors ripple back.
It's not hard to reset one color for each section, but id like to know why it's changing swatches with swatches unchecked. Is it writing that color from the paragraph or other styles which ARE set to sync?

  • Monitor gets with weird color

    Hi,
It just happened, I was working with Final Cut, I left the laptop while it was exporting a file to convert into a QT . Later I went to the computer and the monitor had a weird color something like decolored (instead of gray it was violet).
Does anybody has an idea about it?

Could be video chipset issues due to overheating, especially since it went away after a short rest. When working with a CPU-intensive program like FCP, you should make sure the case bottom and the exhaust vent under the hinge on the back edge are unobstructed. They are critical to good cooling. If you use the PB with an external monitor with the lid closed, that also runs up temps. You may wish to consider a laptop cooler to help move air across the case bottom.
    A Dashboard widget like this:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
will let you monitor some temps on your PowerBook.

  • Why do my custom swatches revert to RGB mode?

    Hi all,
I'm a newbie to Illustrator. I have a few questions:
When I create custom swatches, I choose the CYMK option in the drop down box. However, these swatches are appearing as "RGB" mode in my swatch palette. Why is that? How do I ensure my custom swatches stay in CMYK mode?
When I later view the CMYK code for the swatches, I see that their numbers are skewed a little (for example, 34 may be 35 or 36, etc). Why is that?

When you create a new document, make sure the color mode of the document matches with the swatch color mode. i.e if you're creating a new document in RGB and then using a CMYK swatch then the numbers will be converted to RGB. Make sure the document is also created in CMYK color mode by expanding the advaced options in new document creation dialog box.

  • Question re: colors mismatching in two different documents

    Hey all,
I use Photoshop (CS2) primarily for coloring illustrations and comics, and although I'm not quite a technophobe, I still always get tripped up on the technicalities of the program. Here's my problem in a nutshell: I have two different documents, both with the same color profile (Adobe RGB 1998), both open at the same time. I use the eyedropper to select a color. I switch from one document to the other, and the color as it's displayed changes rather dramatically (even though the color picker says it's still the same - 190R, 120G, 120B). The shift in how the color is displayed is consistent even if I change it using the picker or eyedropper - which is to say that the display error is consistently wonky from one document to the other.
What in the world is causing this? The saturation and brightness are quite different from one document to the other, to the point where it's immediately noticeable to the naked eye. This only happens with certain docs - in most cases, the color remains consistent from one doc to the other if I have multiple docs open, but it just goes wonky when I move over to certain docs. I've had this problem before, with colors displaying differently as jpegs, for example, than as tiffs in Photoshop, but that's obviously a correctable issue involving color profiles. I find it really frustrating that this is something that's happening from one tiff to another in the Photoshop work environment. Can anybody help me with this?

There's just no way this can happen if the two document profiles are really and truly the same. If, on the other hand, the profiles are not the same, this is normal and expected. The numbers will be different for the same color (and inverse).
Check again. Click the little arrow at the bottom of the document frame:
Also make sure that you have Color Management Policies set to "Preserve Embedded Profiles" (which is also the default setting). Any other setting is an unholy mess waiting to happen, unless you really know what you're doing.

  • Adjusting Black (K) while in RGB mode?

Ok, so basically I'm wokring on an image in RGB mode, and I have my INFO box open, and I have the sample picker #1 and #2 set to display CMYK values.
I'm not sure if many people realize that even if you're in RGB mode you can actually view other color information, including CMYK, within the INFO Box. If you click on the little Eye Dropper icons located within the INFO Box, it allows you to choose between different color info to be displayed, i.e. LAB, HSB, Grayscale, RGB, CMYK, etc, regardless of the color mode you're actually in.
So I'm working on an RGB image, but I'm viewing the color info in CMYK, and my question is how do I directly adjust the K, or black, wihtin an RGB image, if I don't actually have the Black Channel available while I'm using Curves or Levels for example?
I tried using the 'Brightness and Contrast' adjustment, but it affects everything else as well, not just the K/Black.

I'm not really trying to affect the 'Black Channel,' I know it's confusing. In fact, technically, there is no Black Channel to speak of, because I am in fact in RGB mode.
Basically I was just trying to increase K, Black, in the INFO Box, from 0 to 4, under the #2 sampler, without affecting CMY. Because my INFO Box, is set to read CMYK values, but I am still in RGB mode. So I'm not really trying to affect the Black Channel, I'm just trying to affect what's being read as Black, while I'm still in RGB mode.
    Right now, it's reading C=11, M=42, Y=51, K=0, and I wanted to change K to 4 without affecting the other colors, without affecting C, M and Y.
I just wanted to see if that was at all possible.
I don't think using another color profile is the path I want to go down. Right now I'm just using the standard sRGB.
I actually had to look up GCR, grey component replacement, and I don't think that's what I'm looking for either.
I just want to make a move in Photoshop that would accomplish changing the Black readout from 0 to 4 with out affecting CMY, or at least minimally affecting CMY.
But I guess it's not really possible at all, using the adjustments and/or the blend modes? I've tried a couple of things and nothing seems to work really.

  • Missing red color in adobe RGB

I shoot raw with Nikon Camera. I am having a problem with getting red color in photoshop. . For nef files, I open them in Capture NX2 and then save as jpg in Photoshop.  The jpg image was opened in Photoshop CS5 with a color setting of sRGB, beatiful red color is seen on the screen. When the same.file was opened in in Photoshop CS5 with a color setting of AdobeRGB ("aRBG"). the red color turned into orange color.
As shown here,  the only difference in color is red hue between sRBG and aRGB.  This is not an isolated case.  All of my pictures look like that.  When printed on Canon i9900 inkjet printer under "Photosbhop Manages Colors setting, red color comes out in orange color.  But printing under Printer Manges Colors" setting, they came to be close to red color.   I do not understand why aRBG does not produce red color.  Could someone explain to me why?
PS: I could not upload two pictures (sRBG and aRBG).  It seems that inserting image was disabled.

These statements are vague or functionally incomplete.  For example, are you saving your JPEGs with a color profile embedded?  When you choose "Photoshop Manages Colors", what profile is set for the printer?
Do you have a basic understanding of color-management?
The kinds of color shifts you're describing can occur if you are assigning a profile different than the one the RGB values are encoded in, or viewing an image encoded in Adobe RGB with a non-color-managed application.
The document color profile needs to match the profile used to encode the RGB values, and the application needs to interpret the color profiles of both the document and the output device for the color to be displayed or printed properly.
May I recommend going out and seeking some primers on basic color management online.  Keep in mind a lot of what's published is sometimes misleading or downright inaccurate, because a lot of people have trouble understanding color management at first.  Try to avoid advice that says "set it like this", but seek the information that describes how color management actually works, so that you can get your mind around it and make your own informed decisions how to set things up.

  • Same color doesn't match across documents

I have a document set up to cmyk preview and proof setup of working cymk us web coated (swop) v2.  In this document I'm using a pantone solid coated reflex blue c.  If I copy the object with that color to a new document the color drastically changes even though it's the same reflex blue.  Notice in the image below, the blue is much richer.  I've had three other people with illustrator/print background look at this and we've compared every setting we can think of but can't figure out why it's doing this.  Any one have an idea?  We need to match the blue on the right in the image below but for the life of us we can't.  It always comes out somewhere between the two blues shown.  Thanks.

Why is your color mode set to "CMYK" and not "Book Color"?
Drag the reflex blue swatch from the Pantone palette to the swatches palette and choose merge colors.
If you ever tweak a color, which is perfectly fine for getting betting color proofs out of a color proofer, always give it a differentt name (eg: PANTONE Reflex Blue C(cmyk))

  • Problem while using color pattern matching

Currently we are doing projects on real time object tracking where we found one doubt that irrespective of the object size whether this color pattern match works or not . My questions are as follows:
    1. Whether it is applicable for objects moving far . Because as it moves far, the size of the object decreases such that the color pattern matching is not working what will be solution since we must use color image
    2. What is the difference in using scale and  rotate invarient in color pattern matching
    3. How we can effectively decrease the ROI depending upon the object position as per below attached screen shots .
we have removed boundary box values of X and Y coordinates at the four corner but we can't track as the object moves far away or we can't decrease the ROI as the object moves far.
    4. whether it is possible to see the value of particular pixel  in LABVIEW vision development module as we seen only the coordinate position . whether it is applicable to see particular pixel value. Guide us
please, see the below screen shots and provide the solution how effectively decrease or increase  the ROI depending on objects position using color pattern match

    Hello,
I have not been using the color pattern matching a lot (especially not in real-time). But since the pattern matching considers only small scale changes, you could try updating the color template every n-th iteration (depending on your setup and requirements). The major problem is the template size, since the color pattern matching tends to take quite a lot of time in learning the template. You would of course need to come up with some idea on how to change the subimage size, where the new template will be learned.
This is the part of coarse (rough) object detection as was suggested by MoviJOHN. For example, if your object is distinctly red, you can extract the green channel from your rgb image and use threshold to roughly find the object and apply the new ROI - template.
    So:
    1. learn the template,
    2. use pattern matching with bounding rectangle (ROI) for the next couple of frames (you would need to experiment here where the detection fails -> how fast can you move the object away so that the detection fails),
    3. Before the detection fails -> rough object detection with some padded bounding rectangle (new ROI),
    4. Re-learn te template of new ROI and go back to 2.
Again, the biggest issue is the template learning time - if you have a high resolution camera and the template is large, this won't satisfy your real-time application.
You should set up the appropriate illumination first. The resolution is also important, since your object is moved back and forth (but the resolution will have a direct impact on the template learning time).
    Best regards,
    K

    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
    Suitcase 4
Anyone got any ideas? This is making me go nuts!

    A solution!
It turns out the problem in my case was in fact Suitcase. Previously, I'd tried turning it off, but that didn't fix the problem, so this time, I uninstalled it completely and the problem disappeared. I then began re-adding it (installed 15.0.1, upgraded it, etc.) and the problem resurfaced with the addition of the Photoshop-specific plugin. Deleting that plugin solved the problem. So it seems that "disabling" Suitcase by stopping the TypeCore doesn't seem to actually disable all of the tentacles it sticks into your system.
    You can find the plugin here: Applications / Adobe Photoshop CS6 / Plug-ins / Automate / ExtensisFontManagementPSCS6.plugin
(After a restart, I also had to delete the font cache, as described here http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-photoshop-cs5.html but your mileage may vary.)
Alternately, if you don't want to delete the plugin, disabling it from within Photoshop seems to work as well. To do that, go to File > Automate > Extensis, click Preferences..., then deselect Enable Suitcase Fusion 4 Auto-Activation.
Fortunately, the plugin doesn't seem necessary at all to use the the core functionality of Suitcase (enabling and disabling fonts) in Photoshop. I didn't even know what these app-specific plugins did until researching this problem, and I still don't quite understand the point of them. I guess they allow you to let the apps for which they're installed do a little bit more of their own management (enable a font via Suitcase that isn't enabled system-wide), but that seems like more control than I need--if I'm enabling a font, I want all my software to be able to use it.
Anyway, the problem seems to be completely solved on my system now, though I just did all this, so more testing over the next few days is required. I'll post here if any issues crop up. I'm interested in hearing if this solves it for anyone else as well.
