Weird crashing apps!

Hi everyone,
This has started a couple days ago, first was Bookpedia, then Speed Download and now also Cyberduck... This is what happens: I'm running my computer like I do everyday, Mail, Safari, NetNewsWire and also iTunes and Pages doing their job flawlessly... then I need to download something and Speed Download opens and doesn't do anything, only the "speenwheel of death" when hovering the app... Same thing with Bookpedia and Cyberduck!
The only way I can get these back to work is by force quitting them and restart my machine, because no matter how many times I force quit and re-open, they just wont work.
Anyone has any remote idea of what might be causing this?
Thanks a lot!

HI,
Is there a reason you use Speed Download? Considering this is 3rd party software, you need to
contact Yazsoft support. http://www.yazsoft.com/sd/content/support.html
Speed Download causes problems for users with little support from Yazsoft http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9279764&#9279764

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>Safari and Clear Cookies, Data and History
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Weird Crash. Well, sortof.

    Alright, so lately I've been running into a weird crash of what I think is Finder. I'll be doing things and need to restore a minimized window. When I do the window will return about half-way, and then, everything will lock up except the mouse.
    Now I can fix this if I close the laptop and let it drift off to sleep; things will be back to normal when it warms back up. But, if I do that, it takes quite a while to sleep, so I'd rather avoid the whole thing.
    Has anyone else had this problem and been successful at fixing it? Or, is it another sign that my four year old laptop is on its last legs.

    How much Free Space do you have on the HD first off?
    One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode...
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
    Reboot, test again.

  • NSCFString crash app when secondary used

    Hello! NSCFString from plist crash my program when i using it in the second time. I have cocos2d project (attach) with one scene and one object. And one .plist file
    HelloWorldLayer.h & .m (instantiate from CCLayer)
    NodeObject.h & .m (instantiate from CCNode)
    Test.plist
    In NodeObject i have one local string and two method
    @interface NodeObject : CCNode
        NSString *stringForPrint;
    -(void)createObjWithString:[NSString *)string;
    -(void)printString;
    In this both method we print string obtained in parameter string
    -(void)createObjWithString:[NSString *)string
        stringForPrint = string;
        NSLog(@"NodeObject.createObjWithString stringForPrint >> %@", stringForPrint);
    -(void)printString
        NSLog(@"NodeObject.printString stringForPrint >> %@", stringForPrint);
    Plis content is one array with one dictionary whit item type string.
    Root
    -TestArray <Array>
    --item 0 <Dictionary>
    ---type <String> == "This is string from plist"
    For test, into the scene i'm create NodeObject and get dada from plist. And print this string. It's work correctly.
    if ([testDictionary objectForKey:@"TestArray"]) {
                for (NSDictionary *tempItemData in [testDictionary objectForKey:@"TestArray"]) {                //It's cool work. True string from plist.
                    NSLog(@"type form plist in for loop > %@", [tempItemData objectForKey:@"type"]);            }
    I create my NodeObject into the loop. And it's work again.
    if ([testDictionary objectForKey:@"TestArray"]) {
                for (NSDictionary *tempItemData in [testDictionary objectForKey:@"TestArray"]) {
                    NodeObject *testObj = [NodeObject node];
                    //and send it string from plist
                    [testObj createObjWithString:[tempItemData objectForKey:@"type"]];
    BUT! if i have tried use this string in the printString method form NodeObject, app will crash without log. [testObj printString]; //crash app
    I have check object from plist using:
        NSLog(@"Description %@ and class %@",[[tempItemData objectForKey:@"type"]description],    [[tempItemData objectForKey:@"type"]class]);
    I repeat. Object creation with manual string work. If using string from plist it's crash. I broke my head. And only in the second method. In the createObjWithStrig it work.
        //Work
        NodeObject *testObj = [NodeObject node];
        [testObj createObjWithString:@"manual string object"];
        [testObj printString]; // Print correct string
        //Crash
        NodeObject *testObj = [NodeObject node];
        [testObj createObjWithString:[tempItemData objectForKey:@"type"]];
        [testObj printString]; //Crash here
    I'm attach project file. Can test this

    Thank you wery match!
    Only this forum help me. Stackowerflow not halped, cocos2d-iphone not helped. Thaks @etresoft
    stringForPrint = [string retain];
    solved problem.

  • Resetting Crashed Apps in 3.0

    In previous versions of the iPhone OS one could reset a crashed or frozen app by holding down the home button. Now that procedure causes the voice control screen to come up. Does anyone know how to escape from a frozen or crashed app in 3.0?

    Hold down the power button until the red "Slide to Power Off" slider comes down. Do not slide it. Instead, once the slider has appeared, release the power button and hold down the home button until the app quits.

  • Find crashing apps

    Does someone knows how to find crashing apps on your devise?? When I took my iPad to an Apple Store in Florida they found apps that make my iPad's battery drain, nnow I'm having the same issue and I don't know how to find those apps.
    IPad4 with retina display , iOS 8.1.2

    Did you check Settings/General/Usage/Battery and scroll down to find the apps listed that used your battery in the last 24 hours or the last 7 days?
    Probably apps running in the background are causing this, sometimes Mail get's stuck connecting to the mail server, or some social media app like Facebook can also be a reason for prolonged background activity.
    Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
    If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:
    How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
    Maybe also take a look at this page about battery drainage

  • Weird Crashes - Any thoughts?

    So, the quick review of my past few weeks:
    1. Purchase MacBook Pro (late 2007 non-glossy) 2.53 Ghz 24.11.2008
    2. Two minutes out of the box, was dealing with annoying noise coming from HD, like a squeaking, turning gurgling noise every 30 seconds or so.
    3. Went back to the store and said "I didn't want a machine that talks to me"
    4. Store says o.k. and replaces my Toshiba HD for a Samsung HD (assuming Tosh. was 7200 and Samsung is 5400)
    5. When I get home, annoying noise is gone! Awesome! Now I cannot open iTunes or Front Row without MAJOR lags in my system. And I mean M.A.J.O.R.
    6. Read up on problem and figure that I need to format the new Samsung HD so it knows what the fakk is going on inside the computer. So, I run an "Archive and Install"
    7. Beautiful! iTunes and Front Row are AWESOME ... BUT, and there is always a but ... now computer crashes. For no reason. At any time. Even with only Safari open. But weird crashes .... example: I was Skyping with my buddy this evening. Computer stopped. EVERYTHING but Skype. No mouse, no functions ... nothing. But Skype was working. Shut down. Restart. Cool ... 5 minutes later ... BOOOOM. Nothing. No response except power button.
    Problem again is that, like most Mac owners, I bought the machine to make music / video / photography. It's challenging to have a computer that one doesn't know if is reliable or not. One doesn't want to get 30 minutes into a project and BOOM. Bye bye. And no, one shouldn't always have to be cautious about crashes and constantly be saving their projects. Yes, saving is good, but ALWAYS saving is tedious, time consuming and one shouldn't have to do it all the time after shelling out a few thousand for a machine that "just works".
    Any help with N° 7? I am stuck now.
    In the car industry they call it a lemon. I think I got the lemon. Twice (I found out they replaced my first one before replacing the HD)
    This ***** ... unfortunately, it's also my first Mac purchase.

    OK, lets go back to square one and take a look at the things that usually result in slowdowns on macs.
    First lets make sure that the drive is correctly formatted and that you aren't suffering from directory corruption of some kins.
    Boot up the computer from your Leopard OS DVD, go past the language menu, and then select "Disk Utility" from the "Utilities" menu in the menubar. Highlight your HD (it will probably give the brand of disk and its capacity) in the pane on the left. Now look at the information in the bottom of the window. It will provide various information about the drive ending with something that should read:
    S.M.A.R.T. Status : Verified
    Partition Map Scheme : GUID Partition Table
    If the SMART status isn't verified, or the partition scheme is anything other than "GUID Partition table" then we have a problem.
    All OK? If so, then highlight the volume name in the left hand panel, immediately below and slightly offset to the right, from the HD. The usual default for this is "Macintosh HD", though you may have called it something else.
    Down below you should now see information about the "Mount Point", etc.
    The important information here is the "Format" , which should read "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" . If it reads anything else then you may have a problem with the drive format.
    All still OK? With your HD selected in the left hand pane, make sure the "First Aid" tab is selected in the top right pane of the Disk Utility window. You should see buttons available allowing you to "verify" or "repair" permissions and to "verify" or "repair" the "Disk". Click on the "repair disk" button. This will check and repair and corruption of your HD directories. It will probably take several minutes to run (longer still if it finds problems). If it says that it has undertaken repairs make a note of what they are. If it says that it can't repair the disk, again make a note and post back here. If it says that it couldn't find any problems then we can move on to the next step.
    Once the "disk repair" is completed, click on "repair permissions". THis takes some time under Leopard (might even run for twenty minutes or so though it is usually a little quicker than this).
    If none of the above indicated any problems then we at least know that your directories etc are in good shape before we move onto the next phase.
    Restart your computer normally (ie booted from the internal drive).
    Use it normally but start up "Activity Monitor" from the "Utilities" folder. Open the "Activity Monitor" window from its "Windows" menu. Choose "active processes" from the drop down menu near the top of the window. Then click on the "CPU" tab in the lower part of the window.
    Watch for any "processes" which are using large amounts of "CPU" (in the "cpu" column. Anything using more than about 50% is unusual. If something is using more than this, take a note of what it is and post back here. Some background programs, and even printer drivers and the like, can be "processor hogs" that consume large amounts of processor time, while doing very little. This can cause serious slowdowns.
    Cheers
    Rod

  • IPad (original) running 5.1.1 crashing apps

    Hoping someone can help. I have a second hand iPad 1 which was running fine until I updated it to 5.1.1. Now it crashes apps every couple of minutes and is basically unuseable. The app that crashes the most is actually Apples own app, the App Store. I see I am not the only one having this kind of problem. I have closed all open apps, "reset" using back and home buttons, and even restored the software before restoring the iPad from my backup. It still crashes. Unsure what to do next. Any ideas?

    Can I say, don't bother hoping that they can fix it?
    I've got my firmware restored 4 times, and the app store still crashes.
    But my iPad2 running on 5.1.1 doesn't seems to be having this issue.
    And so does my wife's iPad3.
    It gave me an impression that they wanted to abandon the original iPad support discreetly... unless someone can provide me a satisfactory answer AND a solution.

  • Weird crashes when trying to start app

    Hi,
    I've got a weird problem on my PM G5 2.0 with my primary user account. Everytime I try to start the demo version of the (java) application LightZone I can click the demo button on the "register/buy/demo-window" and after that Lightzone crashes while showing a message "Initializing Engine Utilities" in its splash screen. I get error messages in my log (attached to this message).
    The point is, that the app runs fine on my iBook and on the same G5 but with a differet user account. I have tried different versions of Lightzone, I have repaired permissions, I have repaired my colorsync profiles (see first stack in JavaNativeCrash.log). I have started Mac OS X in safe boot, I have quit all processes I don't absolutely need, I haven even temporarily removed everything from my home folder but Lightzone still crashes.
    It can't be the app, as it works with the other accouns and my iBook, it can't be my hardware as it works with the other accounts and it can't be any process I run or anything lying in my home folder. What is causing these strange crashes?
    BTW: I also tried re-installing 10.4.7 with combo update as well as Java5. Know what...it still crashes.
    Anybody out there?
    Thanks,
    Carsten

    First of all: Thanks for your help!
    Since it runs OK on the same computer but under a
    different account, it sounds like a problem with your
    account, perhaps the application's preferences.
    That's what I am also thinking, but I can't find anything special with my account.
    • Discard the preferences in your account related to
    the application in question. Check both your Home >
    Library > Preferences and Home > Library >
    Preferences > ByHost folders for preferences related
    to LightZone.
    I had already done this before posting. I even discarded everything in my preferences folder in order to check for any problems related to bad preferences.
    • Check your account's preferences with Pref
    erential Treatment.
    Already running while writing this message...
    • I note you have some Unsanity haxies installed.
    These have a history of being problematic. I
    suggest checking for updates, disabling them, or
    uninstalling them.
    What? I still have unsanity stuff installed?!?!? I used some of their apps a long time ago, but then I had problems, so I uninstalled everything - or so I thought.
    How do you know I have one of their haxies installed? Neither Spotlight nor a terminal search did show anything and judging from a look at their web site I don't accidentally use any of their hacks.
    • You should really report this problem to LightZone,
    as the first set of Console messages indicate. It's
    they're application, they should support it.
    I did this, but I never heard anything. Also a web search did not show any other user with a similar problem.
    EDIT: Ok, SmartCrashReporter is from Unsanity. But I do not know, where is application is coming from...
    Bye,
    Carsten

  • MacbookPro Mid 2012 13" weird crash window (sometimes during gameplay)

    Hey guys...
    strange error occurs even don't really know how to describe, I'll try but the video will describe it better, of course.
    Configuration:
    Macbook Pro 13" Mid 2012
    8gb RAM (originally 4gb, self upgrade to 8gb (Corsair Vengeance SoDimm CL9 PC3-12800 8GB 1600MHz DD3-RAM Kit))
    Intel HD 4000
    Mountain Lion
    Error:
    Reproducible: Yes! (Many times), by playing a game (simple games like Virtual City Playground, or some real games like Starcraft II)
    Description:
    Playing a game or sometimes without running any real heavy applications/ games my MBP totally freaks out. Flickering on the screen and a weird repeating warn-signal or whatever appears so that I can't do anything than turning it completely off by using the Power-Button. After a restart Macbook Spotlight indicates again and it seems like the TimeMachine Update needs a lot more time to run, to analyse where it stopped or whatever. Please take a look on the Vid, to see the error. Applications and everything seem to be up-to-date. For me it seems like a graphic-card issue, but can't remember having this problem using Lion (but had Lion just a week or two, so not a lot of experience with it).

    11.09.12 22:16:06,148 ClamXavSentry[286]: I will quarantine infected files
    This doesn't have anything to do with your problem, but it will likely cause other issues with your e-mail.
    Here's my standard recommendation concerting the use of A-V software to deal with potentially infected messages:
    Never use ClamXav (or any other A-V software) to move (quarantine) or delete e-mail. It will corrupt the mailbox index which could cause loss of other e-mail and other issues with functions such as searching. It may also leave the original e-mail on your ISP's e-mail server and will be re-downloaded to your hard drive the next time you check for new mail.
    So, if you choose to "Scan e-mail content for malware and phishing" in the General Preferences, make sure you do not elect to either Quarantine or Delete infected files.
    When possibly infected e-mail files are found:
    Right-click/Control-click on either the infection or file name in the ClamXav window.
    Select "Reveal In Finder" from the pop-up menu.
    When the window opens, double-click on the file to open the message in your e-mail client application.
    Read the message and if you agree that it is junk/spam/phishing then use the e-mail client's delete button to delete it (this is especially important when the word "Heuristics" appears in the infection name).
    If you disagree and choose to retain the message, return to ClamXav and choose "Exclude From Future Scans" from the pop-up menu.
    If this is a g-mail account and those messages continue to show up after you have deleted them in the above manner, you may need to log in to webmail using your browser, go to the "All Mail" folder, find the message(s) and use the delete button there to permanently delete them from the server.
    To fix the corrupted mailbox index(es), highlight each one that was corrupted and choose Rebuild from the appropriate menu.

  • 359 Degree Sprite Rotation Crashes App

    This is a weird bug I've been chasing for a while with
    spontaneous crashing of a Director App in OSX. I've now narrowed it
    down to when I rotate a sprite to 359 degrees. It only occurs at
    higher resolutions ( ie. 1680 x 1050 ). At lower resolutions it is
    quite stable. I can move and scale the sprite as much as I like. I
    can rotate it to any other angle but 359 degrees crashes my
    application.
    Anyone seen anything like this?
    The crash log refers to EXC_BAD_ACCESS/ KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS
    in unknown thread if that means anything to anyone.
    Edit:
    It seems the sprite's flips affect the angle.
    flipH = FALSE, flipV = FALSE, crash at 359 degrees
    flipH = FALSE, flipV = TRUE, crash at 1 degree
    flipH = TRUE, flipV = FALSE, crash at 181 degrees
    flipH = TRUE, flipV = TRUE, crash at 179 degrees

    I guess I'm talking to myself here but I have also found that
    it only occurs when the image is scaled up. If I use a larger image
    and scale it down then rotation isn't an issue.
    So to summarise the issue;
    - authored at 1024 x 768 projector running full screen at
    1680 x 1050
    - small image ( 1000 x 750 ) linked dynamically and scaled
    proportionately to almost fill screen ( scaling down or
    disproportionately doesn't crash )
    - sprite rotated to 359 degrees ( with no h or v flips )
    - app crashes ( also crashes Director when I run it full
    screen in authoring )

  • Crashing Apps - any help would be greatly appreciated!

    hi all
    i've got a new 3g phone and have recently contracted a lovely bug which is shutting down all of my apps after only a few seconds of use...sometimes i can get a couple of minutes out of things like weather/stocks etc, but maps is a definite no go...
    i've got about 20 apps on it at the moment and am using not even half of the storage space (3 Gb)
    this didn't happen out of the box, only in the past couple of weeks... can't really track it back to anything specific...
    are there any more reports out there of this? oh, and call dropouts have also started to occur more than a couple of times (which is a couple more times than my old nokia 6210 did it on Orange)... could be O2's network as well...
    any help at all would be greeted with open arms
    cheers

    I had that problem for awhile and I've never updated to any subsequent firmware releases. I'm still on 2.0 because I've never had any other issues so an update was unnecessary for me not to mention risky due to all of the reports of other issues arising seemingly due to updates.
    What I do when I add any application on my iPhone 3G is I first delete ALL apps of the iPhone manually. Then I connect it to iTunes 7.4 (because I didn't update nor will I until they force me) and I uncheck sync apps which should effectively delete all the remnants of the apps that deleting them manually missed.
    After this, to be safe, a do a reboot by holding the Home button and the top button at the same time until I see the Apple Logo. Then I let go.
    Now I just resync every app from my PC, including any new one's I've downloaded from the App Store from my PC and then I reboot the iPhone again. With these steps I can guarantee you that you won't have any weird problems with apps crashing.
    *NEVER DOWNLOAD APPS FROM YOUR IPHONE! ALWAYS DOWNLOAD THEM TO THE PC FIRST, THEN SYNC THEM TO YOUR IPHONE!*

  • Crash apps in iOS 6.

    I installed iOS 6 yesterday. After the update, I have noticed an increasing number of times I browse for apps and it just crash. I noticed this in the App Store, Maps and Safari.

    I updated to IOS 6 now several of my apps crash when using them.  I also noticed that when switching between apps that there is a quick red tab across the top that flashes there a second then gone (sometimes).  Very annoying and have to kill the programs and restart them and they work for a while then start crashing again.

  • Facebook timed out while writing a post.  Any attempt to open FB, now shows post that was in progress and immediately crashes app.  Cannot clear timed out item.  Have power failed and done warm reboot on iPad.   Is Delete/Reinstall only option?

    Was writing post, as part of sharing article from my newsfeed.   While writing, Facebook timed out.  Display cleared.  App recycled and returned to newsfeed.  This has happened previously and for all purposes, the original post, since it had never been "loaded" onto FB servers effectively was deleted from iPad memory.  That appeared to be the case yesterday; as I was able to continue reading, sharing and commenting on other articles.
    Later, as I was shutting iPad down for the night, scrolled through open Apps and discovered the original FB window was still "open" I'd apparently been working on a 2nd or mirror version of the app.  Attempting to access the original page; it opens, but I am unable to "interact" with the display/app, pressing "cancel" on my original post has no effect.  Within 5-6 seconds FB crashes.
    I power failed the iPad, left it over night and today am encountering the same problem.   Tapping FB icon, brings up the post that was timed out.  It displays for 2-3 seconds max, then original article and partial post disappear.  Newsfeed appears to be loading as that and contact columns are visible in light font indicating they are preparing to load.   2-3 seconds, that vanishes.  Am left with blue header band, spinning wheel indicating it is trying to communicate or process something.   2-3 seconds and then screen goes black and I'm returned to my app desktop.
    If I immediately tap icon to reopen I get white screen, with blue header band.   2-3 seconds, black screen, back to app desktop.   If I wait 2 minutes, I get the full shared article, partial post as described above.  I've confirmed in the problem log that this is failing in Thread 0 and showing up as system crash.
    Based on feedback to somewhat similar FB problem I found in forum; in addition to doing power fail.  I also did warm reboot (Home and Sleep keys) in hope app would reboot along with ios.  No change.
    At this point, I'm assuming my only viable option is to delete the app and reinstall it from App Store.  Easy enough to accomplish.  But wanted to see if there were any other recommendations, or whether anyone else has experienced a similar failure with FaceBook.
    Thanks for your assistance.
