Weird cross-imaging image corruption in iPhoto 4.0.3

Hey all,
Ive had a search through this discussion and cant quite find my exact problem but have pretty much decided that rebuilding the library is the way to solve it.
But before I do that, here is my problem:
When I select an Album that Ive created and filled with particular type of shots, it shows most of them correctly but about halfway through the 900 or so images, iPhoto starts to show distorted images from other Albums. The titles and keywords are the same (and correct) and when I open the picture its the correct one.
Now the weird thing is, when I zoom in and out, more or fewer of the images show as the wrong ones until if I zoom in to about 6 images, they are shown correct.
Finally, if I click on the scroll bar to move down through the images when zoomed most of the way out, the images that are wrong very briefly snap to show correctly before snapping back to the incorrect image.
What the **** is going on here ?
Hope someone can help me.

How much free space remains on your hard drive? If there's not much left, then a rebuild will likely only make things worse.

  • Corrupt image files cause upgraded iPhoto to crash

I have been spending some time trying to find and remove corrupt image files from my iPhoto library. These are not just scrambled images when viewed they crash any and every program you view them with. Including Finder. I accidentally put one on my desktop and finder went into a auto restart cycle I could not stop. until I removed the file with pathfinder. I have found about 30 of these so far (my library is about 25,000) Many of these are in the data file but some are not. They are of all types (jpg, tiff, psd) Thorsten Lemke, (Lemke Software) tells me it is a quicktime issue.
Here is a link to one of these files. Warning it will crash safari if you try o view it.
    http://vincentdavis.net/try/try.jpg
    Here are my questions.
    1. is there some way to fix these
    2. is there some efficient way to find and remove/fix them?
    3. how did this happen? I had no problem before update (that I knew of)
    Thanks
    Vincent

I did try the link, and as you said - it crashed Safari. However, I have google searched and also searched the Apple Support sites for 'fix corrupt images' with no luck. I'm sorry but I think the only way of knowing is to try and open each of them.
However, I did read on Macworld's site once that sometimes photoshop or other image editing programs can open the corrupt files.
Sorry for not being much help here - I hoped that my first suggestion would have done the trick.

  • Images get corrupted

When I drag images from the clips pane to the timeline they look fine. After playing them with some audio they develop vertical bars over most of the time the image is displayed.
Is it because they're jpegs dragged into the clips area and not imported from iPhoto? I don't keep my images in iPhoto and would like to just drag them as needed from their folders. (You'd think iMovie would have a browse function)
I've got 42 gig of free disk space.
    thanks

When is it safe to remove the placeholder?
When you are finished adding stills.
Can I export to QT safely without it being there?
    Yes.
Will images get corrupted again once the placeholder is removed?
Only if you add new images.
Have subsequent versions of iMovie have solved this problem?
    Yes, I think so.

  • Images getting corrupted in Lightroom

When review a shoot in Lightroom, I've noticed a bunch of images are getting corrupted, maybe 1 in 500 and end up looking like the enclosed example.
What's even wierder is that if I delete the file and then import the same file from a back up drive, it is corrupted in the same way.
Weirder still is that I then take the raw file off another backup and place it on the desktop, bypass Lightroom and open the raw in Bridge, I end up with the same corruption.
It does not seem to be inherintly corrupted from the original capture because whe I originally imported the file into Lightroom, the preview looks fine. Then, I click on the file to enlarge it or something and it turns like this.
Anyone have any ideas what is going on here? I could almost buy the theory of a corrupted drive but, replacing the files frmo another drive still results in the corruption so, not sure what to think. Scary though becasue if this problem accelerates, I could lose my whole archive theoretically.

    Keith,
Yeah. I've seen them, but I've yet to see compelling evidence that Lightroom is at fault. My mind isn't closed on the issue, but I'd put the probability heavily in favour of LR's innocence. I'd be glad to see proof that LR is destroying files, because then Adobe would be able to plug the leak, as it were, and we all could feel a little safer.
The thing is, a very few people are seeing a fraction of a percent of their images becoming corrupt, and the people who have the trouble don't just lose one, but at a steady (if very slow) pace. That kind of situation sounds like classic hardware problems. It seems to me that if there was some bug in Lightroom that was eating files, it would affect more people. Bugs become pretty obvious after a while.
To oneword: Those backups that are also corrupt. How did they get to their backup locations?

  • How can I stop these weird inert file images from appearing on my desktop?

Inert file images keep appearing and cluttering up my desktop with names such as: 3FV2JEQy.JPG.part;  9wA_fwAk.JPG.part;  MpxSEQgY.jpg.part   etc.
It seems to me that they are related to viewing photos from emails with "Preview". (They could be photos from iPhoto also. I cannot be certain).
My desktop fills up with these weird inert file images and I have to go thru and delete them to clear the mess on my desktop. How can I stop this from occurring??
    Many thanks.

I dont know why they say that mac is easy......
    Thanks

  • Vertical images are fine in iPhoto, but don't display properly in aperture.

Hello everyone, i have an old project around 1000 pictures and all the images show properly in iPhoto. I have a shared library with aperture and when i open that project in aperture , all the vertical images seems to be destroyed as soon as i double click on them. It looks like an half downloaded jpg. None of the Previsualisation or the full screen display are correct. What's wrong ?

I had already tried it and it doesn't work "the selected element has been modified in iphoto and cannot be updated" (L’élément sélectionné a été modifié en externe dans iPhoto et ne peut être mis à jour.)
here are screencaps to show you what it looks like.
So everything is normal in iphoto, then I double click on an image in aperture and this happens, then the thumbnails are destroyed, and then in iphoto it is also destroyed.

  • Firefox 10.0.2 causes "image data corrupted" warning message during update try on OSX 10.7.3?

I tried to update firefox 10.0.0 to 10.0.2 on Mac Pro OSX 10.7.3 which failed with warning "Image data corrupted". Any ideas what to do?

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    *Firefox 10.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

  • HT5167 image data corrupted message when installing anything. Please help!!

A couple of days ago something happened and now every time I tried to install an app i receive the following mesage: (app being installed file name).dmg image data corrupt. Can anyone point me in the right direction please???

All of the posters need to take their system to an Apple Genuis bar and have whatever is wrong with them fixed.
It is either some software you have installed. The hard drive has become corrupted in some way or you have a hardware problem.
    Or all of the above.
Wish all of you good luck.

  • Can't export images that originated in iPhoto

I recently upgraded to Aperture 3 from iPhoto. I used Aperture's 'Import from iPhoto' to bring my images across (about 35GB worth). I just figured out that I can't export iPhoto images from Aperture. The export dialogue box simply doesn't appear. Any ideas?

Are you really using Aperture 3 on  Mac OS X (10.5.5)? The recent Aperture version requires 10.6.8 at least?
How do you want to export your "iPhoto images from Aperture."? I assume you want to export the images you imported from iPhoto to Aperture to a folder on you disk?
Select the images yu want to export in the Browser, and then use the main menu bar:  File > Export > ...
    like this:
Then select, if you want to export the masters or versions.
Does this not work for you? What do you see in the File menu? Or do you want to do something different? Then please explain more.
    Regards

  • Trying to download FCPX trial.  Disk image is corrupt.

I've tried multiple times in different browsers to download this trial.  It's always 1.69gb and when I open the disk image I get an error message (a different one each time) that the image is corrupt.  Whats going on?

I don't know but if you have access to another Mac (or a friend's) you could download it on that and copy it across using a memory stick, external hard drive or network connection.

  • Can you mirror image a photo in iphoto

Can you mirror image a photo in iphoto?  Or is there another way it can be done?

You need to either set Preview as the external editor and then flip the photo using it tha tway or export the photo to the desktop, flip it and then import the new photos into iPhoto
You must NEVER make changes directly to the content of the iPhoto library using any program including previes

I thought my hard drive was failing and replaced it and migrated everything over but the problem still exists.
It felt as if maybe a virus was at work but I ran Sophos and found nothing.
I store images on my Drobo Raid system but when I work from my Macbook Pro I have no issues, just on the tower.
Any idea what is going on?

First of all, why did you say yes to Nero Back up before researching what it does with files already on the HDD? When I install Nero, the Back Up is the first thing I disable, it is a nagging pain, there are much better backup programs available. There are several file recovery programs out there to recover deleted files, that is, if that is what happened. Also, if you haven't overwritten the files, so you should be able to find them.

I never tried importing from the iPhoto library as referenced images. I wonder if Aperture can access images stored in an iPhoto library package?  Even if it would work, it sounds like a bad thing to do.
You might consider starting over and this time have Aperture manage the images.  That will copy them to the Aperture library, leaving the iPhoto library untouched. This assumes you have sufficient space to make a complete copy of all the images in your iPhoto library plus another copy of each image that Aperture makes as the preview image. You can then back up your iPhoto library (two backup copies, just to be sure) then remove it from your hard drive when you start getting too low on space.  As I write this I don't know where your iPhoto or Aperture libraries are/will be located so I'm assuming you have them on your HD.
