Weird Downloads

sometimes when clicking on a mp4 or wmv file link it's downloading in some weird ascii code within the safari window or something. instead downloading the file in the actual download-window where you see the progress bar and after it finished downloading you can open and view the file properly.
now when it opens the mp4 or wmv files weird as this ascii code within the safari there's no way it seems to avoid that.
any solution?

I looked into this once before & it does seem that some media files are in a form that Safari thinks is a text file (or it may be the way that the link is constructed )
I didn't find a fix ( I don't have the problem myself- so was just for interest ) but noted that if you ctrl-click the link & choose download linked file , it will likely save as a txt file - if the .txt is replaced by the proper extension, the file then opens normally in the appropriate player.
Are there any specific sites where you have this problem?

No Sync, weird download

I have Windows XP Pro on my computer with Media Player, which is Version 9 or 10 (can't find the "About" to confirm that). In the last three days, I have put a new 16GB micro SD from Sandisk in to take all my music onto it. My Samsung Intensity 2 is usually easy to sync my WMP with, as it's in there and as soon as I plug the phone in, it starts the sync process. Today, in trying to update one playlist, I plugged the phone in and got a pop-up saying that there is:
"Software is available that will help your Intensity 2 (SCH-U460) communicate with your PC. Download Now?", yes/no, with both the Verizon and the Samsung logos shown. When I tell it yes, it downloads and then gets to the actual installation process. At this point a new pop-up appears, saying:
"Windows cannot find C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\VerizonRDFile.EXE. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."
Meanwhile, the install keeps on going until the green bar is full, and I've never typed in this file name. A search for the file comes up nothing, and when I click the ok on the above message, I get:
Error installing Samsung Mobile USB Driver, Exiting...
After this everything goes away, and I'm left staring at my WMP and unable to get my device to sync up. Like I said, normally it does the sync without a problem, and did so three days ago when I put in the new Micro SD chip, while my computer treats the phone like an external memory storage device. The phone seems to be working otherwise, I just can't get it to sync, which bites. Anyone with any suggestions?

The latest update...and I am getting really FRUSTRATED here!
Today I tried to do the last suggestion, but before I did I tried to do the sync music option on the phone itself as I did before after installing the MicroSD 16gb for the first time, after canceling the ****** download thing that keeps appearing. Lo and behold, it tried to do it -- first by bringing up and installing another SCH-U460 sync device (there was already one there plus a Intensity 2 device and my old MP3 player that I still use and want to keep on there). Then it went to the synch screen for the new device and I told it what playlists to put on and all of that, and let it do its thing...for two flippin' hours.
When it got done, I proceeded to check things out, and found that though all the songs I wanted were on the device now, many of them were listed twice, while none of the playlists I wanted were listed in the Playlists -- only the playlists that I HAD NOT wanted on the device...it's like it did the playlists backwards or something. This made me a bit mad, so I immediately plugged the phone back into the PC to go re-sync. Now it won't let me do that -- it keeps telling me to attach the cable to the PC. It IS attached, dammit! But it's like it's gone stupid or something!
I'm to the point of doing a computer restart to see if that helps, or removing and then reformatting the MIcroSD card and then ending all the synched devices that have to do with this phone and seeing if it will then redo the synching of a device, or what. Thanks to all this fooling around today, I've lost even the playlists that I successfully did before discovering the initial problem that started this thread. So now I can't even listen to the songs in the order I want because I have no playlists save the ones I DON'T want, unless it's an entire album.
Is there anyone out there that has had this problem themselves that can tell me how they fixed it, or has had anything like it? Because I'm really getting disappointed in this. I love the phone, but if I can't put the music on it in the way I want, I might as well go back to carrying every device I have, which I was trying to avoid. What good is this phone if it won't WORK RIGHT?

Weird 'download' error after updating to ver 5

After updating to ver 5 on Mac OSX snow leopard I occasionally get chrome://mozapps/content/downloads/download.xml:68 script errors appearing in the download window. I am not trying to start any downloads when the error appears... It stops firefox from responding for a minute or two.

If you are using some version of Windows, I believe that this is by design, that you cannot specify Lightroom as the default program to open a photograph; you can only specify Lightroom as the default program to open a Lightroom catalog file.

Safari 2.0.1 - Weird download problems and wrong icons

Since updating Safari to 2.0.1 I cannot download and install programms anymore. I tried downloading the current version of Cyberduck:

First the download seemed to go fine, but when I copied the programm into the applications folder, it had the wrong icon (a folder icon, whereas it should normally have that duck icon) and it did not load at all. Got some error message that the file was corrupt. So I tried to download the program once more, but this time the .dmg download icon was a Flash icon, the next time it was something else... in any case the .dmg would not unpack at all. When I trashed it and tried to delete the Trash I got an error message saying that some file in there was still running. Save delete finally emptied the trash.
I then tried to download and install another programm ( a .zip file this time) and again it did not unpack.
Somewhen I realized that a lot of the icons in the finder looked blurry or simply were the wrong ones. Rebooting seemed to help at first, but when I tried to download a programm again, all went bezerk again.
Strange enough Firefox seems to have the same problems now suddenly. I'm really lost. I'm pretty new to Macs. Help much appreciated.

Hello Pady
You use the cd only when you need to repair the Disk also known as Disc repair. Please read the Directives in the posts carefully , so that you understand them & then apply.
To run Repair Disk permissions you go.> Utilites>Disk Utility pick your Hard Drive & pick Repair Disk Permissions, you can get info after @ the tool bar at the Info button there will be messages when it runs in the window on the Utility. Really though reread the links so that you understand. Also read as much as you can hear at Discussion, that is what I do.
Also make sure that when you post you go to the most pertinent, place to post, where you will get the most attention.

BT Infinity and weird download speeds

This is the first time I've been with BT, I always had virgin media then when I moved out I was forced to go with Sky for my broadband which they could only manage 3-4mb. I've recently had BT infinity installed (3-4 weeks now) and I'm not sure what to make of it.
Although Sky's download speed was lower, I seemed to get more out of it. In the way of I can see on speedtest.net and speedtester.bt that my ping is low (15ms) and my speed is often between 30-35mb (funnily enough tonight it's sitting at 25mb) however p2p traffic is slow (yes I know it's throttled) but even over Internet explorer it's slow. If I was download a file, say a windows update or a patch for a game with sky I would get a constant 1-2mb download speed with bt it never goes over 200-300kb. Surely this can't be normal?
I may give BT a ring but due to work hours it'll most likely be on the weekend now. Just seems strange that everything points to a decent download speed but when it actually comes to downloading it's pretty slow.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. At present I have my laptop done over wireless using a b/g/n/ adapter. To be honest I have yet to try and connect my laptop directly to the router as this kinda defeats the point? I'm assuming you're thinking along the lines of I should get faster download speeds over a wired connection, which i agree with. But, surely 300kb is still low on a 40mb connection?
I'm in work at the moment so can't check out the test results. But will post them later.

Weird Downloading problem

Whenever I try to download something, anything at all on safari, it does not download, it goes to a download page but then goes back to the page with the "click here to download" link. This happens on every single page I try to download things, the only way is to use software update or download from another computer then transfer. Is there some setting or firewall thing going on? I'm not sure. The problem always happens, home or at school. I'm not sure what's goin on.

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It sounds as if your files are actually downloading in the background. Go to: 'Window' > 'Downloads' to open the download progress window to check. If you need to locate where the files are on your mac, go to: 'Safari' > 'Preferences' > 'General' > and check where 'Save downloaded files to:' points to.
Also, try and hold the 'control' key for more options when you click to download files. ¦¬î MadMacs

"Download" pop-up button appears

I'm getting a weird "Download" button popping up on various websites, Facebook, etc., sometimes when I roll over things. It seems almost random...a gray button with the image of an arrow pointing down into a tray with the word 'download'. When I click it the button changes to "Please make the video is being played or it is supported". It just started popping up recently. Only seems to happen with Safari 5.0.3. It's annoying and there's nothing there to download anyway.

ITunes Download err -100000

So I just recently bought one of those cheaply awesome $6-50 songs classical music albums, and one of the songs has this weird downloading error (Symphony No. 5 to add salt to the wound). Whenever I try re-downloading it, it "downloads" the file like 5 times. It will download, go to 100%, and start back over again. Then after 5 or 6 times, it tells me the file is corrupted with the error code -100000. I have no clue what to do. Help!

im having the same problem with "not meant to be" by theory of a deadman, but the weird thing is i was able to iCloud the download to my iphone, just not my macbook. i have tried contacting apple about it and was told that it wasnt there experties in the problem. everything ive tried hasnt worked i dont recall even having any kind of "firewall" installed on the computer.... and like u im hoping for an answer that works

Series of 8 characters appearing under my mouse pointer

i have a mac... mid 2007. no problems with it ever in the last 7 years. today...about 2 hours ago...i started to see a weird series of 8 strange unidentifiable characters appearing under my mouse pointer on my screen... it just moves right along trailing my pointer around. does anyone know what this is...and how to get rid of this annoying pain in the butt. i checked thru my mac downloads looking for any weird downloads...but i see nothing out of ordinary...and i am normally pretty cautious about links and weird ads online and i never click on them. my mac had 500 gig hard drive...and i still have 400 remaining after 7 years. anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of this problem. i thought it was the mouse batteries or the mouse itself so i swapped around with another... but its not the mouse. please help. thanks.

Ack! Finder won't let me open anything!

Hey guys! I am having problems. Hope someone here can help!
All of a sudden, the Finder won't let me open any folders. I click on the Hard Drive or folders and the desktop just kind of flashes (the icons disappear) and then it goes right back to normal. I tried opening things from the "Go" menu at the top and restarting the computer. It's still doing it. I can get to the documents through Safari if I "browse" for something, but I can't just double click on anything. It's weird. It just started today. No weird downloads or updates. It just happened.
Any suggestions??

don't panic just yet. You do have a more serious problem than I thought if it affects all accounts. BTW, have you repaired permissions? I should have asked that first. repair permissions and verify your hard drive. Once that's done, try booting in safe mode and see if the problem persists. to do that restart and at the chime hold the shift key. boot up will take longer than usual but it should boot you in safe mode eventually. see if finder works normally there.

I have a very weird situation that is going on that keeps happening to me and has caused many "Weird" situations on my Retina MBP and other Mac's that I own. I did have some of this in another thread, but most people simply don't think what I am describing is really happening, etc.
To date I have spoken with many Mac Genius's at multiple Apple Stores, I have spoken with many Level 2 Apple Care Rep and now have an Apple Certified IT person that visits my house once or twice a week trying to figure out what is going on.
Anyway....
I will give a quick example and if anyone can explain this to me or has had a similiar experience I would love to hear back!! .....
So I have about 6 macs for my current and past business. Plus I always love grabbing the newest technology. That said this "Problem" occurs with every Mac I own. Even to a brand new MBP Retina that no one has had access to. I keep Firmware PW's on, I only use Eithernet connections, I have a $600 Hardware Firewall configured to let nothing in (No VPN's, etc)... obviously have sharing off, **** I don't even use Bluetooth.
Anyway when I wipe the drive I do it like this...
1.) Take out both the MAC HD and Recovery Partion....
2.) I have 50 MBPS Download Speed so Internet Recovery is very quick. I go through the normal process.
3.) Once I have reached the new recovery partition from the Internet Recovery I partion the SSD a couple times in different formats and then go back to the normal Journaled that I will be using for my single partioned SSD
4.) Then I install and go through all the normal steps, expect I skip everything that I can. I don't add location services, I set time manually and I don't sign into iCloud as this will be my Admin Account. I normally just call the account Main or Admin.
5.) I check for updates and install any that might have not been included in the most recent Internet Recovery.
6). In the Admin Account I set a tough PW and then begin with all the security options. Again all sharing off, Firewall on, Wifi Off and requires Admin Access to Turn on, No Peer-to-Peer Networking without Admin Access, Bluetooth Off, Java and Extensions turned off in Safari, etc. You name it I have done it as far as the GUI goes. I am certainly no expert in Terminal, but can make my way around for some things.
7.) I create a Standard Account "The one in which I will conduct 99% of my business in." Again I create a strong PW for this account and confirm that the security settings that I setup in Admin match those of my Standard Account.
HERE IS WHERE THINGS GO WRONG...
8.) I go into options and login to icloud.
HERE IS WHERE IT IS ABSOULETLY WRONG...
911) I login to the apple store as I want to dowlonad some of the simple apps so I can go to work. IMMEDIATELY, it starts downloading a program called "Mountain" ... please don't confuse this with Mountain Lion (You can see it listed second in the APP Store search "Mountain")... when I look down at my Launchpad bar without hitting anything the 2.1MB file is downoading and then dissapears from my launchpad.
** Also as this is going on "storeagent" with the linux exec box icon next to it shows up saying "storeagent is attempting to install software to your computer" It does ask the for Admin User and PW, but no matter what I hit this "Mountain APP" downloads.
When I first noticed this I thought this was legit, well it certainly is not. I have never purchaed that "APP" however it does show up in my APP store Purchaes. The gateway is obviously not doing it's job and FURTHERMORE I don't have any of the options to "Automatically Download New Apps, etc." I simply just check for updates manually everyday as it is a 2 second process and Mounain Lion doesnt check automatically until every 7 days.

Sorry for the long post... Anyway experiencing the same thing? I can redo my drive over and over again... I have ever purchased a new Mac Book Air a year ago to see if it would happen and the problems eventually started and fairly quickly. The weird thing also is that I have done wipes and renistalls in all sorts of different locations.
So all this said... how could it not be in the EFI or on the machine some how?

I need that firewall for VPN Tunnels. These are not setup yet, but in order to work from home... outside our office, this is a requirement. Money is not really an issue and I do always back up kids / family photos. I have two Thunderbolt backups attached to the Monitors. So the 4TB with Raid 0, was cut down to 2TB and then I have another more movable / durable one that piggybacks off that.
I am considering the new Apple ID, the problem is I have a ton of Apps and a TON of Moview / TV Shows that have been downloaded over the past years.
The movies are easy enough, but it just ****** me off that I won't just be able to have them in the iClould and put on my Apple TV and have it right there with my Apple ID (My 2 year old loves Tom & Jerry )
It might come to the new Apple iD with minimal security, but being a partner in a business that runs the Internet Marketing team... we have very sensitive data that is stored. That said large email list and many other items that make us money and the ability to run a successful business is important to protect. Apple has these security mesaures in place for a reason and really the bottom line is I want to get to the bottom of what is causing this.
If you don't believe me, etc... that is fine. I did start a new forum as you said and I am simply looking for people to throw some feedback my way, if they have any.
When you say thing like "I suspect you aren't telling the Full Story." it is upsetting because I am trying to be as detailed as possible and why would I ever be typing on this forum unless I was just looking for some feedback.

Cannot download Bovada software. After using it for a year or so, it started getting weird, so I trashed it and have not been able to download it since. My security is set for all. It downloads, but then the message comes that it isn't right for this

Have a three yr old Mac Air and using Yosemite 10.10.1. Have used Bovada Poker software successfully for a long time. But it began to get weird so I trashed it. Now when I download, there is a white icon over the Bovada icon in the app folder and the message "You can’t open the application “BovadaPoker.app” because it is not supported on this type of Mac."
Bovada doesn't seem to be able to help, although they acknowledge that some Mac users are having this problem. Is it Yosemite? What to do?

Saw some other (ssh) broblems beind discussed and tried the fix for them and it fixed my "You can’t open the application “BovadaPoker.app” because it is not supported on this type of Mac."

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Weird problem when downloading the output to an excel sheet

Hi to all,
when i download the list, output by an alv grid, i observe a weird problem..in the excel sheet the last digit (10th digit) of the first col. which is delivery no., is getting truncated...0001802563 is getting downloaded as 000180256..couldn't understand why...when i use conversion_exit fm, the values are not getting truncated and downloading correctly...curious to know what's gone wrong in this funcationality? thanks all

Weird characters displayed on page instead of file download/preview

Hi everyone,
I have a download file procedure as per the instructions on the download.oracle.com page
The download of the files worked just fine (or better say they were previewed in a new page) but recently a new schema has been added to the workspace so we can start the testings from the scratch.
I modified the schema name where needed, but not the download page acts kinda weird, as instead of the file preview, I get a long page full of:
��JFIF�,,��&�Exif��MM�*��b��j(��1��r2��i��-��'�-��'Adobe Photoshop CS3 Windows�2008:07:28 16:41:20��]��&(��.��%��H��H��JFIF��H�H��Adobe_CM�
The issue is that if I switch back to the old schema, the result is the same. So, anyone has any idea of what can cause this?

PS: Some updates...I tried it in IE as well (I use FF when working with applications) and funny enough the photos and documents get displayed/the download box shows up.
But, all the files have the name f. f.pdf, f.jpeg etc
I tried calling the dl_image procedure in the url (currently I call a new page where I pass the file id to an application id and then I call the above procedure in a pl/sql block):

And the name seems ok. I don't think it's a good idea to put the procedure name in the link, is it?
