Weird Driver swap issue since 10.4.10 install
hey all hows it going.
i have a weird issue that i believe is a video driver issue. im actually a system administrator for a company so this is kind of fustrating not knowing how to fix something, so i turn to you guys!
ok so i have a imac g5 17" pc i've had since around 2003-4 now.. and the issue is that the display keeps alternating between 800X600 to the proper native resolution by itself randomly.
i have done a re-install of osx 10.4 and repatched to no avail, i have repaired permissions to the disc, i have started osx in safe mode and got it to rebuild the basic windows.preferences.plist file to no avail.
and then i noticed something. the specs on my mac had changed slightly since the 10.4.10 upgrade. i have not made any upgrade changes.
basically, this should be the video card according to apple and my receipt

Thought you could use this info about getting FireWire to work!
First, you should always Repair Permissions in Disk Utility before and after any update; I would do that now. If you installed your update with FireWire plugged in, your Mac may not recognize it anymore.
Try resetting your FireWire ports by disconnecting all FW devices, shut down your Mac and unplug it from AC power (wall socket) for 30 minutes. plug it back in and try FW.
If that did'nt work, download the combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try. Yours is the 10.4.6 Combo update. Others reading, download the Combo that applies to your system.
If that still did'nt get it Zap the PRAM. While restarting Mac hold down the following key combo Command-Option-P-R. Keep holding those keys down till you hear the second start-up chime, then release.
For those of you with Macs that are not PowerBooks or iBooks, a bad internal battery can cause FireWire to not be recognized, so make sure it's good!

Weird Network/IP Issue Since Updating to Yosemite
Since I updated to Yosemite, I've had two (possibly connected?) things start happening.
1) I occasionally see a pop up error message that reads:
"Another device on the network is using your computer's IP address. Try connecting again later. Of you continue to have problems, change the computer's IP address..."
I haven't noticed any new connection issues, but under "Shared Devices" in finder, my own computer appears many times. Right now I see 10 "Emily's Macbook Pro"s under that tab.
2) Every time I wake my computer from sleep or restart it, I end up having to go through two password screens to log back in instead of one. The first looks a little off (slightly misaligned text and images). The second (after I've already entered my password once) looks fine, and actually logs me in.
Anyone know what this is about or how to fix it?I got this email from AOL (unsolicited); I have not acted on it:

Hard drive swapping issue GE60 2OC
So i bought this new MSI GE60 2OC laptop and the only rly negative point with it is its HDD, cause I'm used to SSD now.
Thus i decided to upgrade the laptop with my SSD from my old laptop which is an OCZ agility 3 240g. So i plug it in my laptop nothing goes wrong just like i have done it before.
Then i start the laptop and it goes straight into bios menu where you set boot option and such, fine i thought and checked if it was in ACHI mode,
so i saved and exited then after i saved and exited it rebooted and went to the same bios boot menu again. now i got nervous and check all the setting and they were correct and it keeps looping like this every time u exit it the menus.
tried several boot option and switch to legacy from UEFI then it booted but dunno if it is the correct way to do it .
So i swapped it back to UEFI to get it back for my HDD.(Legacy boot thing might be the correct way pls say if that works, cause haven't red into it that much yet).
Now i thought it was broken so i switched back to the HDD and it worked perfectly and i tried the same thing with my dads SSD an samsung SSD Basic 840-Series 250GB
but got the same loop and have searched forums and so on but i have no clue why it get stuck there, it's like the laptop don't find the SSD in bios only the HDD. Any ideas of how i should proceed would be awesome.Hello Odeen,
I assume you have the HDD plugged out/removed when you have your SSD inserted in the laptop? If you have plugged it in, try setting the boot order in the BIOS to HDD first!
If you have your HDD unplugged, you are not using an MSATA but just the Sata 3 for the SSD because you only have 1 SATA slot right? The SSD doesn't have the proper Windows files and/or proper boot files to boot to Windows, therefore it boots into the boot menu (I think) You should take an bootable USB/DVD (DVD is recommended) and put the bios into UEFI mode for a Windows 8 DVD or you should put it in LEGACY mode when installing Windows 7, for Windows 7 install it's a bit harder but I have a tutorial on that topic on this forum... Let's say that you're going to install Windows 8: go to the bios and turn off secure boot and fast boot and enable the boot mode in UEFI, boot the Windows 8 DVD in UEFI mode (when seeing the MSI logo press F11) and select the boot device in the Boot Menu, now your Windows 8 Installer should load the Windows files. Select your SSD (do not format it in Windows so if you haven't done a format yet go make a Parted Magic bootable USB/DVD and do a secure-erase on the SSD (tons of tutorials about that on the interwebz) Now install Windows 8 on your SSD and there you go, Windows 8 installed on your SSD in UEFI mode. Everything should work fine from then...

Late-2008 Macbook Pro Hard Drive Swap Issues
I recently bought a new WD Scorpio 500 mb internal hard drive and I was in the process of restoring things from my external hard drive. At the very end of the restoration, the prompt to restart my macbook pro came up on the screen so I went ahead with the restart. After restarting, however, the apple logo would show but after a few seconds a prompt appears saying that my computer needs to restart. This has occurred ever time after restarting so now I'm confused as to what I did wrong. Please HELP!!!

Performance issues since upgrade
I am on a late 2011 MacBook Pro and am having severs performance issues since upgrading to Mavericks. I fear my issues may be related to company installed anti-virus (which I cannot remove), but I was hoping someone could look over my EtreCheck for other potential solutions.
One really odd issue I am having, which I cannot seem to find good information for on Google, is at least 4-5 times a day my Mac just stops. No beach ball, no anything, for about 1-5 minutes. Then it's fine. Maybe just me grasping at straws, but it seems related to a when webpage loads a bunch of images? I always use Safari btw, but testing other browsers, like Chrome & Firefox, it happens as well.
I have also removed TotalFinder and have noticed no improvement and still have the above issue.

If you receive the above error in your report, we have recently found a registry key which
contains the timeout value set by Microsoft for VSS and found that you can edit this to extend it.
To get to the registry key, open Regedit (Start > Run > Regedit) and browse to:
"HKLM\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\SPP\\CreateTimeout".
Change value to 1200000 (2*10*60*1000 = 20 mins).
The default for the timeout period is 10 mins so hopefully doubling this will give enough time to
complete the snapshot.
If this isn't present, you'll need to manually enter the registry key. It's a DWORD 32-bit key.

Sometimes a third party backup application will change the default VSS provider adding VSS writers which causes Windows Server Backup using an incorrect component in doing backup, that's why I suggest to delete it for a test. Anyway you can reinstall it
after testing.
And as you said a high-load CPU could also be the cause of the issue so you may need to first rule hardware effective out.
If issue still exists, please try the steps below as well:
1. Please check DCOM Server Process Launcher service is started.
2. If not, try to change RPC service to run as SYSTEM account. To do this please modify the following key:
Note: Backup the key before edit incase it cause any issue.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RpcSs\
Find "ObjectName" and change the value to LocalSystem.
Reboot to see if DCOM back to work and if Windows Server Backup starts working. If not, please provide the result if there is any new error occurs.
If DCOM still not work, please compare the content of the following key with a working server:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OLE
Edit if there is any difference and make sure you created a backup of the key before editing.

My Hard Disk swap didn’t go as smoothly as I hoped.
My attempts to clone my old drive were unsuccessful because Carbon Copy Cloner froze twice on me almost at the end of the cloning process. I gave up with CCC because cloning 60GB over 400 Mbs Firewire takes hours and hours. I subsequently learned from replies on the Bombich software forums that I could have restarted from where it left off - I'll remember that if I ever have to do it again.
I eventually managed to boot off the DVD drive. Because my disk was partially cloned, the installer thought that OS X was already on there and tried to upgrade the installation. This didn’t work, it wouldn’t boot. Eventually I realised what was going on, erased the drive first and then did a full install. I was then able to start off the new drive.
I’m just doing all the Tiger updates through Software Update. While I wait for that to complete, I have two remaining issues to resolve:
1. I now have no start up chime - although sound works. Can I fix that or is this a symptom that I’ve screwed up the repair?
2. I have my old drive in a Firewire enclosure and can read it OK. I’d like to get my users and applications off it and onto the new drive. How would you recommend I do that? I don’t know if it makes sense to selectively clone Users and Applications independently of everything else.
I’m sure all this is buried in some threads somewhere but my head is beginning to spin a bit. Hopefully you can help.

I was going to reply after it completed to say if it was successful or not. I didn't see Migration Assistant referred to on the other threads about this issue that I've seen. In fact one or two specifically advise against trying to move users from one drive to another but maybe they were written before MA was available.
My machine is going much faster with these upgrades Don't know whether to attribute it to the extra RAM or the new disk. -
Various issues since Leopard upgrade
I have just installed Leopard on a Dual 2.7 G5 with a 500GB Hitachi HDD and 5GB RAM and I have noticed one or two niggling little 'quirks' (I am lumping everything together here, rather than separating them in to more appropriate sections, so that I have a record of everything together).
1) I have an Epson Perfection 4870 scanner which I cannot use to scan directly from applications (for quickness I mainly use Preview) as the 'scan' button is always unavailable (greyed out, not highlighted in blue). This has been an issue since at least 10.4.8, so it's not a problem exclusive to Leopard, but it's extremely annoying nonetheless. As I can scan directly from the Epson Scan software (which is basically the driver) Epson will not assist me further and have directed me to Apple/Adobe/MS, etc., for support. Prior to 10.4.8 (IIRC) I could select 'import' (from whatever application) and it would automatically preview, the scan button would then become available and hitting it would launch the driver software. However, the link between the applications and the driver seems to have been severed somehow/somewhere and it is no longer recognising that the unit has finished its preview in order to make the 'scan' button available for the next part of the process.
In Tiger, I could also scan into Epson's EasyScan application, but have been told this isn't 10.5 compatible.
Does the above make sense...? Has anyone else experienced this - and have you solved it? If so, how?
2) This next bit concerns the Dock. I like to have it hidden along the left hand side of the screen, rather than at the bottom, because I only have a 17" panel and desktop space is at a premium. However, about one restart in five, it's back along the bottom and any icons or folders that I have added to it have gone AWOL.
3) The third issue is a sound issue. I have a Revolution 7.1 card which I understand, from reading a notice on M-Audio's Web site, is not yet Leopard compatible (though the promise it will be "very soon"' though as the last driver release didn't support anything newer than 10.4.6, IIRC, I'm not holding my breath!)
So I have removed the card and plugged my Logitech Z5500s back into the 'on board' card. This was working flawlessly under Tiger (I know because I tested it to make sure, because I knew that the Revolution wouldn't function under Leopard). However, whatever I try, I only seem to hear sound from the internal speaker; I even replaced the optical cable (at great expense - the original was a Belkin Gold Series, and so is the replacement and, at about £35 a pop, it's not a trivial outlay). Everything in the sound sys prefs is completely 'greyed out' so I cannot change it from the internal speaker to anything else. Whilst there is nothing on Logitech's Web site as regards to the Leopard compatibility of any of its products (it seems that it gave up on the Mac a very long time ago; I use a MX510 which was the last of their rodents to have any kind of OS X support and that stopped with 10.4.4, IIRC) I cannot see how a set of speakers, which should work with anything that has the required jack sockets, can be fussy about an OS. Incidentally, I also have a 'dark side' box running XP Home (when I win the lottery, I'll buy a Mac Pro and dispense with it) and they're plugged in there and work fine (via analogue, though, not digital).
I noticed it when I received some CDs that I'd ordered from Amazon the other day and found that iTunes was playing through the internal speaker.
4) The final issue is a networking issue. Under Tiger, I could (though it did take me some tweaking to get it working smoothly) dump things from the G5 on to the Windoze box and vice versa, without too many hiccups. However, Leopard is proving to be somewhat of a challenge, to say the least. I don't know how I managed it, but I did manage to render the machine completely inoperable at one point (it would only boot as far as the grey 'Apple logo' screen and I couldn't open the optical drive to stick the DVD in - a panicked phone call to a friend, who runs his own Mac repair and consultancy business, followed!
I don't understand SMB and AFP (though I do know about FTP). In the Finder, I can see the 'doze box and can send things to it (though should I be connected as 'guest'?) but there is nothing on the Windoze side, save for 'Printers and Faxes'). I have made sure I have permissions set correctly and everything is set up to share (and Windows sharing is on) but there is nothing on the other box at all.
Is it possible to share the main HDD across, or am I limited to this silly 'Drop Box' thing (which I did have available under 'doze at one point, though it was read only and I couldn't change permissions from Leopard because I didn't have sufficient privileges, even though I have an admin account and I could change permissions under Tiger with the same level of 'clearance'.)
4) This final issue is sort of linked with 3) as it concerns what I believe to be erroneous error messages. I was clearing some stuff off a drive I was going to use for Time Machine[1], but I wasn't allowed to delete most of it because 'XYZ was in use' or open in an application. Six reboots later, I was still receiving the same error; strikes me that Leopard's got its knickers in a knot somewhere along the line because the files in question (mainly old Word and Excel docs) were certainly NOT in use as I didn't have either installed at the time!
[1]Though having read the problems people are having with TM (not just here, but on other forums I read/post to) I think I might give it a miss and stick with ChronoSync (just have to wait for it to be compatible).
So, this is actually the second installation, but the problems remain - any help out there?
Sorry for the verboseness of this, but I wanted to make sure that I'd covered everything. I'm almost tempted to reinstall Tigger (but not quite - I like Spaces, and I like the Dock Preview).

FranFran, I'm not sure I'm going to be much help for all your problems but I will attempt to answer what I can.
1. Scanner problems - have you tried reinstalling the software? I know you mentioned that the easyscan software is not compatible but it sounds like the driver software isn't in the right place. Optionally another program that you might want to look into is vuescan. I have had good success with the program in the past but I have yet to try it under Leopard.
2. Dock problems this sounds like either a corrupted preference list. But I don't have a clue as to why it might be reoccurring. Have you fixed permissions on your computer since installation?
3. I don't have a clue to figure out how to fix this issue.
4. Networking - As for sending things to the doze box. You don't need to be connected as guest. Just use the username and password that you use when you sign into the windows to sign into the windows box and you should have the same rights as you would as if you were using windows on that computer. Yes it is possible to share the main HDD but it isn't something that I would recommend. What I do recommend is creating a folder where you have both read and write rights to and then use that folder share items across both computers. If this isn't something that is going to work for then at the most I would just share your documents folder. You didn't mention how your trying view information on the windows side you should be able to browse your network and eventually find and see the mac.
4 (part 2) - I would recommend something besides TM, it is designed to recover lost/accidentally deleted files. And isn't really designed for being your complete backup program. Yes, you can use it for that but I would recommend something more robust. Some of that comes down to how you want to define your recovery strategy. Superduper!, promotes themselves as having the ability to boot for your backup drive and being able to almost immediately get back in business. If this is a critical factor to you then I would lean in that direction. If you are just worried about having a backup of critical data files then Chronosync or some other program will work just as well. Also mentioned in your post in this paragraph is a description of "files in use" problems. A couple of things come to mind did you let spotlight finish indexing your drive before you tried deleting files? I've run into a problem similar to this in Tiger when I was deleting files while spotlight was indexing.
One item that you didn't mention was what kind of installation you did when you installed Leopard. If you didn't do an 'erase and install" then that might be something to look into. First back up your computer before doing this. You might also want to run a permissions fix on your drive to see if that helps at all.

Photoshop CC(2014) is having "redraw" or video driver/GPU issues
Since upgrading my Mac to OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), after a working on a file or two, my photoshop image window looks like this:
This is a JPG, after I have opened a RAW file, with Camera Raw 8.7 beta (happened before the Camera Raw
update), and make my adjustments, and save. Everything seems fine, the jpg preview looks fine, but after working
on about 3 images, EVERY jpg opens and looks something like this. I can see parts of other recent images
in the garbage as well, and the image changes drastically when I zoom in and out.
I already posted to the Adobe forums, and someone suggested it might be a video driver/GPU issue with the new OS X.
Any suggestion?An Adobe employee in the online community had me turn off "Use Graphics Processor" in the photoshop/prefs/performance,
and that worked. Not a total fix, since I can't use that now, and something is clearly not compatible, but at lease I can use
Photoshop. -
I have been running arch completely reliably on my desktop for about 18months. It's a superb distro - well done - this is what slackware should have been!
The existing hard drive (SATA) is partitioned:
sda1 ntfs/xp
sda2 swap
sda3 ext3/xarch
and all was working well...
I recently added space by dropping a spare IDE drive in - with one big ntfs partition. Now the drive order at boot seems random:
Grub ALWAYS sees: hd(0,0), (hd0,1), (hd0,2) and (hd1,0), so I can boot the kernel from (hd0,2) as normal. The problem comes with the kernel line, sometimes the line
kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda3
will boot and sometimes it will hang with a 'waiting 10 secs for sda3' error. In these cases the kernel is seeing the drives swapped - so it actually wanted a root partition in /dev/sdb3.
The workaround I have in place at the moment is to have two grub entries, one with
root=/dev/sda3
and the other
root=/dev/sdb3
. Whichever one I choose has a 50% chance of being correct so I can usually boot within 2 or 3 tries. But this is a workaround rather than a solution.
I have searched the forums and wiki but could not find anything relevant. Surely there must be something that I am overlooking? What could be causing this and how could I solve the problem?

Are there any known issues with Adobe Edge Animate and Yosemite? Experiencing performance issues since upgrading OS. Animation I was working on that had been performing in browser fine suddenly stopped working, and was not related to any action I had done at that point. Also was working in it today and program stopped responding to key board short cut commands.
I am having a whole slew of odd interface problems with a fresh 2014.1.1 on a fresh macbook pro with latest Yosemite. Program locks up, cursor selections don't show, things disappear. I have a mac mini also and the program runs fine on it. Is there possibly something related to the solid state hard drive in new macs?

Video issues since Windows 7 installation

I recently updated my T500 2081-CTO to Windows 7 (formatted the drive for a clean 64bit install). Since then I've had two issues with the Discrete graphics. The first is that I can't change the brightness when I'm in high performance mode, and the second is that the graphics performance has gone way down since the update. I have a 3D screensaver from Planesoft that used to run at 20-25 FPS under Vista, now that I'm running Windows 7, it's at about 5-7 FPS.
I've seen a lot of posts about the brightness issue, but I've updated the drivers and it hasn't helped yet. I haven't seen anything about the graphics performance issue.
Thanks in advanceI'm not certan, but doesn't the switchable driver _include_ the appropriate Intel driver? You might be able to install the Intel driver you are trying if you set the machine in integrated graphics mode, but I don't think that's the right thing to do.
Which ATI driver are you running? This one in the driver matrix has an interesting comment in the Changes section:
"(Fix) Fixed an issue where the LCD brightness could not be changed when the graphics mode was set to high performance on starting the computer."

This is in regard to hard drive encryption issues in my USB Hard drive. I have Windows 7. I was encrypting my USB hard drive and
was able to enter a password. However, I did not receive any prompt to save the Bitlocker recovery key. During encryption process, I received an error. The encryption process was unsuccessful. However, now when I plug-in the hard drive, I receive the

I took it to d istore and since I had warranty they replaced my IPhone. It iPad charger has high volt than ur iPhone charger so when u connect wit it, there is a chance where large amount of current passes thru ur iPhone. So for sure it wil damage ur motherboard and its parts! Many said that iOS 6 or 6.0.1 or 6.1 was d reason for tis wifi prob! But apple never made its mistake wit it's software. If and only if u hav hardware prob u wil hav these sort of wifi prob Bluetooth prob! So best way s to replace ur iPhone!
