Weird dull bar horizontally on screen

I just got my iMac 27 2.66 i5 from the apple refurbished store and all is great except one issue. In the middle of the screen there is a horizontal bar that is barely there. Its easier to see on gray/dull backgrounds and impossible to see on black or white. Its about 10 inches long and 1 inch wide.
Is this something worth making a genius appointment for, or is it a "tough luck" type thing? Its one of those things that when you don't notice it there is no issues. But when you see it, you cannot stop seeing it. Even when i'm not looking at it, it pulls my eyes to it . Almost like not looking directly at it makes your eye see it better.
Thanks for any input. I just don't want to lug this down to Genius to hear, "oh well don't buy a refurb next time".

Apple refurbished (not necessarily 3rd party) computers are held to the same standards as new ones in terms of service.
Is the bar there if you boot from the install DVD? Insert the install DVD and restart the computer holding down the C key. If it's still there it is definitely a hardware issue.
You can also call Apple (800-275-2273 in the USA) for help with diagnosis. If you got the AppleCare protection plan you can even ask for onsite service (they come to your home with parts and fix it there) if they can make a good diagnosis.
Best of luck.

    Hi,
I think it will be automatically added if your screen size is greater than the window size...

i restored my iPod in the middle of a download, now it can't do anything but restore, and when i restore it, the screen gets stuck on weird things, like the apple screen or purple or yellow. how do i get it un-stuck?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Imac late 2006 has two big white bars on the screen.

    Hello,
I have a late 2006 intel imac and it also has the apparently extremely common vertical white bars on the screen.
They have the same size, about a twelveth of the whole screen, and are spaced by a well functioning bar of exactly the same size. So i thought this could be a problem with the connectors, and i wondered, is there any connector inside the imac that has 12 pins?
P.S.: I'm trying to fix this myself because i took it to an apple authorized repair center (which is the closest we have in Portugal to a real Apple repair center), and they said it would be 550€, a ridiculous amount of money, since the screen costs something like 150€, and they ended up charging me 50€ just for letting it stay the night since they didn't even open it.
I have been an extremely loyal customer and am extremely disappointed in Apple for not replacing this screens for free, since it's clearly a manufacturing problem.

You are just better off saving up your money to buy a new iMac.

  • Spry Menu Bar jumps off screen-right in CS6

Frustrating little glitch I'm experiencing.  When in a NON-LIVE mode in CS6, I have a Spry Menu Bar that I've placed, customized and is functioning properly.  It is precisely in the right location in BOTH live mode and in a browser preview, however, when I am editing the site the menu bar jumps off screen right to where I have to scroll right to locate it.  The only thing that pops it back in to place is by tweaking a setting like "Float" from right to left then back to right.  But once I begin to edit the site again it will jump off the screen.  This isn't a massive deal since it remains in place in live and preview modes, it's just annoying for layout purposes while I'm editing.  It sort of screws up the aesthetic of the layout.  Has anyone found the same problem?  Below is my layout.css and my Spry Menu css.

Have you tried booting into the Recovery HD and running Disk Utility to see if anything needs fixing on the HD. Restart holding down Command+r and once it hopefully boots select Disk Utility>Repair Disk. If anything gets fixed click on repair disk again until you get a clean pass. Try restarting as normal from the Apple menu once done.

Let me explain more - when I use skype for example, my image is displayed in a horizontal split screen. I have tried another chat product and the same thing happens - so it must be something to do with the built in camera or configuration of the camera. Would it be best to contact Apple about this? Will somebody have to get a spanner out to fix my quite new macbook pro? (3 months old). I teach languages online so I really depend on a decent image. Can anybody help me?

  • How to Remove maximize/minimize/close top-bar in full-screen view [MAC]?

    Hi.
My Q. is pretty much as the title implies.
It's a small thing, and maybe kind of trivial,
but I'd like to know how to get rid of the maximize/minimize/close top-bar in full-screen view in Adobe Reader on the Mac.
I am definitely in fullscreen view [I hit command+L], just so you know,
but I still have that top grey bar showing with the maximize/minimize/close buttons [the red, yellow, and green].
As I said, kind of a trivial concern, but I'd like to know how to hide that in full-screen mode.
I tried searching around a few places for an answer, but there is nothing too obvious.
I can't find anything in the full-screen preferences of reader either. Maybe I'm missing something...
    Thanks!

Version 11.0 , so I guess that is the most recent?
I think this is an application-specific problem too, because I don't encounter this in full-screen mode with other applications.

    Hi.
Blank space appears above address bar in full screen mode when I bookmark specific web page for the first time after FF start. Only way to hide this space is View->Toolbars->Customize->Done. But it appears each time after FF restarts. Disabling all addons does not help. This problem disappears only in FF safe mode.

  • Black bars around my screen.

I have recently gotten adobe premiere, and after effects. Everytime I export there is a black bar around the screen. http://us.toshiba.com/video-electronics/camcorders/camileo-x100/ That is the camera link , and it is 1080p 30fps. thank you in advance.Btw it is .avi.

We need to know what your composition settings are. If you create your compositions by dragging the footage into the New Composition icon icon at the bottom of AE's project window you should not get black bars. If you're getting a 2 or 3 pixel black bar in your footage that is probably normal. Cameras don't necessarily fill up every pixel.
A screenshot wold help a lot.

    Hi 153957,
    Thanks for the response.
I could see the film strip on the bottom ok in Browser plus viewer mode.
When I go to viewer screen the full screen mode and I could not see the Photo tool bar-sorry I spelt it "Tour" in my question.
Now I realised that the Photo Tool bar only appear when I move the cursor to the top of the screen.
However in full screen mode I am unable to bring my inspector! Is that possible?
