Weird font in Safari NOT Firefox

when I export my iWeb site to my desktop, Safari shows the main page in font NOT like I made in iWeb, but Firefox shows the web page as expected. I took off ALL shadows, all of the words are links to other pages in iWeb.
is there a way to insert a screen grab so you can see what I am talking about?

See my response in your other post. You could publish your site and provide the URL to it. That will give us a lot more to examine.

  • Some fonts in Safari not working

    After updating to Safari 3.1, I noticed that some fonts in Safari now display as Helvetica fractions. However, when I use Firefox to view the same Web page, they display fine. I am using Suitcase Fusion 12.1.6 and manage Local Fonts. Some of the local fonts do not appear in the preview pane and say they are missing. I have located them and tried to add them (repaired first, all fonts do not need repair) but Suitcase will crash each time I locate the font.
    Also, I noticed in Firefox that it is using the same fonts for the default set as Safari. Times & Courier. Yet these fonts aren't missing in Suitcase, so I am not sure what is happening here.

    I am using Suitcase Fusion 12.1.6
    12.1.7 is the current version. You should probably update.
    but Suitcase will crash each time I locate the font.
    Either the font is bad, or Suitcase's database is bad. That it tells you local fonts are missing points more towards a problem with Suitcase.
    To reset Suitcase, close the application. It will give you a minor warning about available fonts. Click Quit. If you are NOT using Suitcase's vault, in your user account, go to ~/Library/Application Support/Extensis/Suitcase/ and delete the file:
    Suitcase Font Database.suitcasevault
    In the Preferences folder of your user account, delete the file:
    com.extensis.SuitcaseFusion.plist
    Relaunch Suitcase. You will need to reset any preferences in the program that you have changed from the defaults. You will also lose any sets you've created.
    If you ARE using the vault, following the above steps will cause you to lose all fonts you've added to the vault. If you have backups of all of your fonts, this is no big deal. Otherwise, be forewarned that they will be gone. What you can do is move the database file to the desktop. Then if the problem with Suitcase continues, you've likely eliminated its database as the problem. Then you can quit the app again and move your original database back into the ~/Library/Application Support/Extensis/Suitcase/ folder.
    please tell me if I nuke my font caches, how will it affect Suitcase Fusion.
    It won't do anything to Suitcase. It doesn't even create them. For the most part, OS X builds your font cache files. If you remove them, the OS will rebuild them when you restart.

    I bet my credits the fault is within the Calibri font.
    You can do a font substitution for Calibri.  I made the change for all users.  Before anyone does this they might check, from the command line, what font is being used for Calibri:  'fc-match Calibri'
    In /etc/fonts/conf.avail/ I added the file, 39-no-calibri.conf:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">
    <fontconfig>
    <!-- Replace Calibri with generic fonts
    bad ligatures in Calibri -->
    <match target="pattern" name="family">
    <test name="family" qual="any">
    <string>Calibri</string>
    </test>
    <edit mode="assign" name="family">
    <string>Arial</string>
    <string>Liberation Sans</string>
    <string>sans-serif</string>
    </edit>
    </match>
    </fontconfig>
    Then I symlinked to it from /etc/fonts/conf.d/:
    # pwd
    /etc/fonts/conf.d
    # ln -s /etc/fonts/conf.avail/39-no-calibri.conf
    Finally, I updated the font cache with 'fc-cache -vf'.

  • CSS styles show in Safari, not Firefox

    If you go to
    http://www.noematiks.com on a
    Mac, the BOLD styles show in Safari but not in Firefox. Not sure
    about a Windows machine yet.
    The domain nameservers were changed about 32 hours ago and
    maybe propagation is causing this issue (thats what my host said).
    Any ideas?

    Of course it's OK - it's OK to write any kind of code you
    want. But if you
    want clean, semantically meaningful code, it just makes more
    sense to mark
    up words that are meant to be emphasized strongly as
    <strong> or <em>
    rather than as <span>. <span> doesn't mean
    anything, while <strong> does.
    HTML is a "markup language", meant to "mark up" text in such
    a way that
    various user agents can display it in meaningful ways. Using
    lots of
    meaningless tags is never as good code as using semantically
    meaningful
    tags. Once you used the semantically meaningful tag, you can
    always
    determine how it's displayed by applying CSS. Conveniently
    enough, just
    about all browsers display <strong> in boldface, so
    there's usually no need
    to apply CSS to is.
    It's one thing if you just don't care about clean code - then
    it's all a
    moot point. But it's funny that people do that - replace
    <em> and <strong>
    with spans which they then style as italic and bold - because
    they think
    it's *better* code because they're using CSS. That's
    completely backwards.
    Having said that, I truly don't care what kind of code you or
    the original
    poster write. Do whatever you want and have fun, and/or get
    the job done.
    I'm all for that. I was just commenting on what semantically
    correct HTML
    is.

  • Animation of multiple background image positions via keyframes works in Chrome & Safari, not Firefox.

    The goal is to create an infinitely scrolling, two-layer parallax, patterned background. The effect works perfectly in Mac Chrome 35.0.1916.153, Mac Safari 7.0.4, iOS Chrome 35.0.1916.41, and iOS Safari 7.1.2, but it stutters in Mac Firefox 30.0 (haven't tested on iOS FF).
    My code is visible at http://jsbin.com/cifig/2 and is basically modeled after http://davidwalsh.name/multiple-background-css-animations (demo http://davidwalsh.name/demo/multiple-background-css-animations.php).
    If I make either one of the following changes, the stutter in FF resolves:
    • Limit `background-repeat` to `repeat-x` or to `repeat-y`.
    • Remove one of the two animated backgrounds.
    So it seems FF can't handle the continuous animation of two backgrounds that each have background-repeat, whereas Chrome and Safari can.
    Any tips? Thanks!

  • Fonts Do Not Display Correctly in Safari and Firefox

    Certain fonts do not display smoothly in Safari and Firefox. They appear to have little pieces of the letters missing. I'm sure others have experienced this problem before but I could not find how to fix this. On the Apple Discussions the fonts look fine... on Google for example, they look messed up. I do not know specifically which font(s) are displayed weird but it happens frequently. This happens in Safari and Firefox on my MacPro and MacBookPro. Is there a setting to fix this?

  • Safari (nor Firefox) will not open eBay...

    This is so weird!
    I have a G4 laptop, less than one year old. Has worked fine since I bought it in December 2005. Then 2 weeks ago, ONLY Safari started to not "remember" my password for eBay, that had been added to my Autofill preferences months before.
    Today, I was online working in eBay, went to do some errands, and shut off the computer. When I came back home and turned on the computer, I tried to connect to eBay again, but now I get an error saying "Safari can not connect to the server." I can select any other web site and have no problem accessing - just not eBay.
    Then, I tried to use Firefox to access eBay - same error message. I called my friend who has the same ISP as I do, asked him if he could access eBay - no problem. So, not the ISP. Then I went to an internet cafe and connected immediately to eBay - no problem. Came back home, started computer again, conneceted to internet, Apple site, Yahoo, my bank site, etc., etc., etc., but when I typed in (or tried to use eBay bookmark) same problem ... can not connect to eBay server.
    Tried to connect with Firefox, same no connect.
    yes, I have cleared cache, history, cookies, even ran Disk Utility for Permissions, Tech Tool 4, Disk Warrior ... still could not connect to eBay, but can go to every other web site I tried!
    Anybody know the solution to solve this so I can get back to work on my eBay store?
    Thanks,
    John

    Thank you for advices!
    I did not try to downgrade freetype, but I guess Microsoft fonts look good with older versions of freetype because there is BYTECODE_INTERPRETER enabled. Here is quote from SuSE documentation:
    In order to get a good rendering of the MS TrueType Core Fonts, the BYTECODE_INTERPRETER setting should be enabled in freetype2. The freetype people do recommend not to use the bytecode interpreter anymore in favor of their auto-hinting code. But while it is true that you will achieve good rendering with most of the free fonts, this is quite ugly for the MS TrueType Core Fonts.
    Well.. I do not want to enable features that are not recommended by developers :-)
    What about antialiasing - I do not want to enable it for small font sizes. And, of course, antialiasing is the thing that was invented not for fixing broken fonts rendering.
    I decided to replace Tahoma with Verdana everywhere to solve this problem :-) Unfortunately, I coud not do this with fontconfig - debug output from freetype shows this font list after replacement:
    "Verdana"(w) "Times New Roman"(s) "Thorndale AMT"(w) "serif"(s) ""(s)
    Note letter "w" after Verdana. I do not know what these letters mean, let's suppose 'w' is for 'weak' and 's' is for 'strong'. Firefox (or freetype) ignores 'weak' fonts when there are 'strong' fonts in the list. And all substituted fonts always have 'weak' marking... Thus, Firefox displays Times New Roman (or any font that was set as default in Firefox) instead of Verdana.
    The final solution for me was to take fontforge, make a copy of Verdana and rename this copy to Tahoma. Now I have Tahoma replaced with nice rendered Verdana everywhere
    But the question is still open - is it possible to take broken Tahoma and make same looking font that would not be broken?

  • Why does goolgeearth work with Safari & Chrome but not Firefox

    When in firefox using Google maps and click on "EARTH" I receive a window indicating that to use 3D I need to install 21.0 Google Earth Plug-in with a "Download" option to click on. Note: Firefox 21.0 and MAC OS 10.7.5 have all current software updates installed. Safari & Chrome do not request for any plug-ins and 3D Earth option works fine. ANY HELP?
    PS. my MAC does have an Intel HD Graphics 3000 installed but my MAC, Safari & Chrome work fine.

    JKELLETT, That initially happen to me also. When you go to dolinsky296's suggested website https://www.google.com/earth/explore/products/plugin.html I saw "Download plug-in" box in the middle of the globe. When I click it the download executed but the plug-in never got installed. Then I clicked on "Download Google Earth" in the ''upper right corner'' of the website and life was good. Google Earth now works in Firefox.

    When I convert my pdf doc to word, the fonts go really weird and it also puts some text into boxes. when I try to select the text and change the font, it does not change it properly? This is making it impossible to amend.

    Hi Janedance1,
    If the PDF that you converted already has searchable text, please try disabling OCR as described in this document: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when converting PDF to Word or Excel. (If the PDF was created from a scanned document and doesn't already have searchable text, disabling OCR isn't a great option, as the text won't be searchable/editable in the converted Word doc.)
    Please let us know how it goes.

  • Adobe Flash Player (Vers. 14.0.0.176) not working in Safari or Firefox on Mac (Mavericks; Vers. 10.9.4). What do I do?!

    Hi all,
    This is my first post to the forum. I've been directed here because I'm having issues with video streaming/playback (in particular, YouTube) on the Safari and Firefox browsers on my Mac. First, a little bit of information:
    My computer:
    I have a 2012 iMac with a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 32 GB of memory and a 3TB Apple "Fusion" solid state hard drive. The software version my Mac is currently running is 10.9.4, on the Mavericks OS, as shown in the subject box.
    My Issue:
    I've noticed, in the past week or so, that video streaming and playback, on YouTube in particular, are either (a) slow or (b) not loading whatsoever. In YouTube, three things become apparent almost immediately: (1) the video (advert or no advert) simply does not load, with a black screen that turns into a grainy screen after a while with the message "An Error Occurred;" (2) the suggested videos on the side panel (i.e., to the right) do not load properly. The thumbnails of the videos simply do not load; and finally, (3) the comments also appear to experience issues from loading. I've attached screenshots to document this.
    N.B. Comments do appear, along with the side panel thumbnails once YouTube has given up on trying to load the video
    So, What have I done about it?
    Everything I can do, to be honest. I've:
    (1) Checked preferences in Safari (i.e., plugins are installed correctly)
    (2) Cleared Cache in Safari
    (3) Deleted "All Site Data and Settings" in the Flash Player section of my System Preferences
    (4) Uninstalled Adobe Flash Player completely
    (5) Reinstalled Adobe Flash Player
    (6) Contacted Apple
    (7) Checked Preferences in Safari again (i.e., plugins are installed correctly)
    (8) Cleared Cache in Safari again
    (9) Reset Safari
    (10) Deleted "All Site Data and Settings" in the Flash Player section of my System Preferences
    (11) Uninstalled Adobe Flash Player
    (12) Undertook a "Clean Install" of Adobe Flash Player, following instructions
    And alas, I'm in the forum! May I also add, that I have also scanned my hard drive for any corruption that may be present, generating a negative result. I just do not know what to do at this stage. I've done everything I have knowledge of in trying to resolve this issue.
    ANY help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you
    Kieran
