Weird font issue

I'm trying to create something with greek lettering.  I'm using Symbol which usually works.  However, for some reason it's doing everything in capital letters despite having typed in the words in capital and lowercase letters.  The lowercase letters are showing as capital only smaller.  This is not what I want.  The font works fine everywhere else including illustrator but not in photoshop.  I need to be able to enter the text (correctly) onto a path and I'm stuck.  What can I do to correct this?

Check your CHARACTER panel (if not visible, choose Window - Character).  See if you don't have the Small Caps function turned on.

  • Really Weird Font Issues...

I'm not sure what happened, but I keep seeing a certain font on different webpages I visit and in Word documents that I am viewing. This font isn't set in the document or on the webpage at all. Is there some sort of CSS Style Sheet or default font that you can set for the OS? I don't have the issue with my laptop. Just my desktop and its driving me insane! I thought it was just a Safari issue, but I can see the same font when I'm working in Word. Please help.

oh and being in my pocket is just an example of the phone going in to sleep mode...it also does it at night etc. Essentially, just an extended period (over 10 minutes) of not being used.

  • Weird font issues transitioning from KDE to GTK apps

I'm having some strange issues happening between programs. Firefox and Pidgin, two GTK apps, can render kanji symbols fine. However, if I attempt the same in Konqueror or Konsole, they render as boxes.
Clearly I have the right fonts. What do I do to make Konqueror read them properly?

    Justin, Try the following:
    1) Quit all open applications.
    2) If you have 'Helvetica Fractions', 'Times Phonetic' or 'Rougue Stencil-Type' fonts installed, delete them.
    3) Delete your fonts caches with *Font Finagler*, FontNuke or OnyX +(or with whatever utility you normally use)+
*Font Finagler <http://homepage.mac.com/mdouma46/fontfinagler/> (this is the BEST utility)*
    FontNuke <http://www.jamapi.com/pr/fn/>

  • Weird Font Issue. Missing Spaces?!?!?

Okay, i have a really bizarrrrrre problem. I received some
flash files from a friend of mine. And when i goto edit them i
notice there is NO space between the letters F and I ---- only
those two letters in that order. Everything else is fine. I've
tried differernt fonts, and on some it's fine, and on others no
space. I've made a new document, and used the same font and get NO
problem. So it's something in that FLA file. But what the heck??!?
Does anyone have ANY idea how to remedy this problem?
(and yes, it's not a kern/ letter spcing issue - actually,
that will increase the space, but it's starting out as the F and
the I ontop of each other, so i have to kern like mad to make them
    look normal)
    Flash 7 on OSX 10.4.6

I'm marking this "answered" because Quark helped me find a workaround for part of the problem. However, the underlying cause is still unknown and I'm still experiencing font substitution messages even though the fonts should be the same because they're all from the same source.

I had this problem a while back on my G5 but don't remember how I solved it. I have a picture to show what the font looks like.

The recent Infinality update requires a uninstall/install of fontconfig.  I posted the same problem here:

    it hapends in
    safari
    adium
    text edit
and a few other programs, needless to say, its system wide, not just one application!!
i have tried verifying all fonts, and that didnt help, and then i did an archive and install, thinking that would fix it, and it has not.

Make sure you delete the fonts Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic if you have them. The screen shot is too poor to tell for sure, but it looks like the former (or a similar font that replaces Latin with math symbols).

  • Weird font issue in iTunes store

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my itunes in my macbook pro retina start displaying gibberish in itunes....

    all the
small type displays as strange nonsense characters.
Some mail messages also show the strange high-bit
characters where normal text should be. I don't know
which font might be causing this.
The most common cause of such problems is the font Times Phonetic. If you have it, dump it.
If you like, send a screen shot for verification (tom at bluesky dot org).

  • Terminus 9pt font issue in Konsole after upgrade

I have a slightly weird font issue in Konsole following a bunch of upgrades today. Basically, at the beginning of the command line and the beginning of subsequent words on that line, the very first character sort of flashes and gets truncated if it is one of several letters. Very narrow characters are not affected (e.g. i) but most are (e.g. n, g, m, r etc.). Once I press enter, the characters look perfectly normal - the issue only occurs on the line being edited and while I am entering or within words as opposed to spaces. Moreover, it only occurs for the first letters of words. Subsequent letters look fine. Once a space is typed following the first word, the character looks normal unless and until I type another letter or return to edit the first word. If I type "cat" it will be a truncated c; at "cat " all looks fine; then "cat c" and the first c is truncated; "cat cat " all is well; "cat c" with the cursor moved back over the second c and the second c rather than the first is truncated.
Any thoughts as to what I should check? I'm using the infinality stuff from AUR. I updated that last night. However, I don't _think_ I saw the issue today until after upgrading the kernel. Here are the last entries from pacman.log:

I'm using Terminus (TTF) in size 9 in Konsole. This hasn't been changed for quite a while.
Any suggestions on how best to troubleshoot this? Is it possible that I need to rebuild some other AUR packages associated with the infinality ones but which haven't actually been updated? Or is it likely to be to do with something else in the list?
EDIT: It only seems to be some fonts at some sizes e.g. Monaco 8pt is OK but Terminus 9pt isn't; Terminus 10pt is OK; etc.

Applications/Font Book and validate your fonts.

  • Weird font being used in player

For a while now, in my Flash player embedded in my browser
(any browser I use), a weird font shows up for some of the text.
    Here's a
screenshot of what I mean, taken in Firefox (you can see the
font in the band name at top and on the song titles):
This also occurs in some PDF documents.
I've tried a bunch of things, including reinstalling my Flash
player and the like. Nothing has worked. I'm going to assume it's
an Adobe font issue, but I don't want to go into the font file and
muck something up just yet. Plus I have no idea what I'm looking
    for.
I'm running Mac 10.4.11 and Flash Player 9.
    Any ideas or leads? Thanks.

You wouldn't believe the mess that ensues when I try to start using styles in a document. It doesn't happen right away, but soon, the styles conflict and don't apply or become convoluted in a way that I have to throw away the entire document before it infects my system and I have to simply start over. I hate 'styles' and I'm sure it works for somebody, but not for me. The only way I would try styles at this point would be through a college class where I could have an instructor, week after week, where I could bring back my 'mess' and have the instructor show me where I went wrong. At this point, I do not have that and experience has taught me to just don't touch that!
Thanks Jongware, I'll try those things you recommended. Even though I have used InDesign from the day it was introduced (got rid of Quark in a hurry) there are still areas that are yet to be learned for me. What a great program it is.

  • Font issue in Acrobat 8

We have been having problems with .eps files placed in Quark and exported to a pdf. In Acrobat 7 standard the fonts from the .eps file gets garbled when read on the PC. Use local fonts seems to cure this problem, but I took the pdf file and opened it in Acrobat 8 and got this message. "Cannot extract the embedded font 'XYSNP+Trajan-Regular'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." Now all the surrounding text in Trajan that was input from Quark 6.5 changes to a different font when printed. Would switching to an Opentype version of the font solve this problem?
    Thanks

I have been having the same sort of problem but with Illustrator CS3, Photoshop CS3, InDesign CS2, and Acrobat 8 Professional. I am the only Mac in the building (brand new system), everyone else is on PC. I am only getting the font issue with the Optima family. The school I work for purchased the font as a PostScript Type 1 outline font. We were guessing that I might be having issues because I am on a Mac.
When working in InDesign, I have to print off most of my pieces on an inkjet printer, if I try to print to a xerox laser, Indesign crashes or pops up with an error "There is a problem with the font Optima." I have been using both methods for creating a pdf in indesign:exporting to and printing as.
If I use the optima font in Illustrator I get a "can't print the illustration. There's a bad font used in the system" error.
When I create PDF's through Indesign, the PDF turns out fine on-screen, but the error message pops up "Cannot extract the embedded font 'XQFZSM+Optima'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."
When I try to print the PDF out on either a laser or inkjet printer, the optima font has a lot of missing letters or is replaced by a different font.
This has been very frustrating. The weird thing is that it doesnt happen with all projects that use the optima font. I have done some very small projects (envelopes, postcards) and have either had an issue or no issue at all with optima; and Ive worked on larger projects (magazines, newsletters) and have almost always-from what I can remember-had a problem.
Is this something that I can fix with program settings? Or would a Mac compatible font be the solution?
    Thanks

  • Qt 4.6.3 - 4.7.0: font issue

after updating qt (4.6.3) to qt-4.7.0-2 and qt-doc-4.7.0-1 from as per: pacman -Syu, qt designer/assistant/linguist/qt config displays text with weird font (looks like wingdings) in the menus and other ui items. is there anything I can do to fix this? If I downgrade to 4.6.3, all is ok again.
pacman -Syu also had an update to xorg and related packages, which I accepted, but it totally messed up my virtualbox guest additions (arch is running in a windows xp host). I downgraded xorg and the related pakages, and got my virtualbox guest additions restored, but I cannot for the life of me get qt 4.7.0 to work.

  • Weird Font Substitution...?

Running Mac G5 2.7 Dual with Tiger 10.4.8. On an intermittent but frequent basis, I'm getting this weird font substitution issue with Mail, Safari and Text Edit. I use Suitcase X1 11.0.2 for font management. Here's a link to an example of what I'm talking about:

Get rid of the RadioActive Roman font. It is badly constructed and being confused with other fonts because of that.

  • Weird font in iTunes store.

I am running the latest iTunes version on a Windows XP and I get these weird font which never happened before. How can I fix this?

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them.
Start up in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Restart as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
If you still have problems, then from the Font Book menu bar, select
              File ▹ Restore Standard Fonts...
You'll be prompted to confirm, and then to enter your administrator login password.
Also note that if you deactivate or remove any built-in fonts, for instance by using a third-party font manager, the system may become unstable.
