Weird font problem - Can't remove/navigate "Favorites".

My 'Fonts' dialog won't let me delete any fonts from either the "Favorites" or "Recently Used" collections. Furthermore, it's difficult to select a font from either list. And I can't use the arrow keys to navigate up/down the list, it will touch a couple of them, but it just alternates between them.
I tried removing the font cache 'sudo atsutil database remove' and rebooting. No effect. I also found that one font, Ariel, had some 'Minor' problems (according to FontBook), so I removed it, cleared the font cache again, and rebooted. No effect.
I googled around and couldn't find any solutions.
Has anyone experienced this before? Very strange. Fonts themselves seem to be working okay, but having a corrupt Font Dialog (if that's what it is) is annoying.
Here's a picture of what I see in my Fonts Favorites list: <http://iridesnow.com/images/fonts.png>

Which OS are you using?
I posted this message in the "Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard" discussion category. That is the OS I am using.
Why do you want to delete fonts from your lists?
Maybe they're not my "favorites" any more, or haven't been used "recently". Why does it matter? I should be able to, at a minimum, remove fonts from my Favorites collection.
"Your Favorites" are the fonts that are used the most.
They are fonts that I added to that collection. It shouldn't matter how often I use them.
And "Most Recently Used" are exactly that.
Except several of them have not been used recently (depending on your definition of the term "recently").
What exactly is the error message, and does it only refer to Arial?
It did not say. FontBook simply said there were "minor" problems with certain versions of the Arial font.
Arial is used by Word.
Good to know. I never use MS Word, nor do I use Arial.
What do you think you will gain by trying to remove Arial?
Fwiw, I did not completely remove it, only the (four out of five) aspects of it that FontBook said had "minor" problems. My thinking was that perhaps a corrupted/problem font in FontBook was somehow interfering with the Fonts dialog ability to correctly display/manipulate the contents of the Favorites and Recently Used collections. It was an unlikely long shot, but since I never use Arial, I didn't care about removing it. And "removing" actually only moves the files into the trash, so if I wanted I could have retrieved them.

  • Font problem, can you find a solution?

When I upfraded to Snow Leopard, I had a prblem with fonts. In any browser, a strange font was active instead of a normal one. Attached, is a picture where he problem can be seen. I've already tried to delete the duplicated fonts in Font Book which worked the fisrst time but now I have the same problem but I can't really set the deault font back on. I've also tried to change the fonts in the browser settings but it doesn't seem to be the problem too.

I really didn't install any new font....
Maybe not directly, but an app you installed must have dumped more fonts onto your drive, as the one shown isn't any font that comes with OS X.
But how can I delete all the fonts I have installed myself?
Check the Fonts folder in your user account. If there are any fonts in it, remove them. Otherwise, compare the contents of the /Library/Fonts/ folder with this list and remove any which are not in the list.
Another way to find it is to open Font Book (or whatever font manager you're using) and click through them one at a time until the preview you see matches the bad font. Remove it.

  • Weird wrt54g problem-can't access my own website

I maintain a website through hosting service go daddy.  I use Frontpage XP to maintain this website.  My computer is WindowsXP pro.  I have the wrt54g version3 router with v4.30.5, Apr. 27, 2006 firmware.  Now for the weird part, I can access all web addresses fine, except for the website I maintain.  If I bypass the router, the website loads perfectly.  If I have the router installed, the website doesn't load at all, or if it does load, it doesn't load correctly.  I have tried resetting the router back to factory defaults, rebooting and praying.  I have called both my ISP and Go Daddy and they both say I am having a router issue. I have called thre of my freinds and they are all able to access the website without any problems.
    Any Ideas?

Check the MTU on the Status tab. Open a command prompt and ping your website with a packet size 28 lower than the MTU. If your MTU is 1454 then 1454-28=1426. Thus type:
    ping -f -l 1426 www.uawlocal1485.org
It should go through. Then try to increase the value in the ping by 2.
    ping -f -l 1428 www.uawlocal1485.org
It should not go through. If the first one does not go through, you have to lower the MTU in the router. Decrease the value in the ping until you find a value that works. Increase that value by 28 and use that as MTU in your router.

  • Very weird font problem

I have a very weird and annoying font problem with the left menu bar of iTunes 8.2(23)
Some but not all menu items are displayed like a mix of Hebrew and unprintable caracters.
But once the menu item is selected, the font is back to normal !
The weired thing is that TV Series and Shopping cart menu items are displayed (in French, because the interface is in French) as expected.
I don't know if it is related, but I have Russian-PC keyboard installed too, Adobe CS4 (which installed Adobe fonts) and my OS interface is in French.

How did you go about finding this Lucida Grande.ttf? I did a search and didn't find it. I have the same weird font thing in itunes. I recently installed a whack of fonts from another computer. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Major font problems- can you reinstall only the sytem fonts?

I installed Adobe Font Folio last night (so far 500+ fonts) and this afternoon several webpages and the address book and the calendar in Dashboard have changed to a numeric/subscript font. I have disabled all fonts in Font Book that look anything like the weird font, repaired the permissions in the Disk Utility, and now am at a lost on what to do next!

  • Weird font problem on Yosemite pop up boxes

Has anyone found a solution to this bug when a dialog/pop up box occurs in Yosemite? I've already tried to reset my fonts, removed error font's and cleared font cache and still no luck.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them.
Start up in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Restart as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
If you still have problems, then from the Font Book menu bar, select
              File ▹ Restore Standard Fonts...
You'll be prompted to confirm, and then to enter your administrator login password.
Also note that if you deactivate or remove any built-in fonts, for instance by using a third-party font manager, the system may become unstable.

  • Very weird font problem which appeared suddenly

I have no idea how to describe the problem as I am no native speaker. The following screenshot shows the problem, it has yet only occured within Firefox:
    http://i.imgur.com/zNegO.png
The circled slash should be either fi, fl, or ff (like I have indicated)... as I am typing these examples they also appear as these things, they are not exactly the same btw (also I hope they are coming out regulary for you, otherwise reference the screenshot).
What caused this and how can i fix (there it is again, when typing f-i-x) it? Thank you.

  • Weird font problem (Crazy Diamond font)

Win XP Pro SP2 with ID 5.0.4 -- I'm using a Crazy Diamond 17th century font (www.crazydiamond.co.uk) to simulate old-style printing. Thus, "Mississippi" becomes "Miffiffippi" (long "s") and so on. If I write "This is the other" in regular or italic font, it looks as expected in Photoshop.
But in InDesign, it reads "Þis is xþe oðer" -- That is, each "th" is replaced by an old-style character. I can turn this option on and off in Photoshop, but not in InDesign. So, I wrote to Crazy Diamond and they sent a replacement regular font which cured the problem--which they already knew about. But the problem still exists in their italic font. I've written to them twice about the italic problem, with no response.
So, it's a pretty obscure problem, but I figured I'd mention it here, just in case anyone else has run into a similar problem, and knows of a work-around. I suppose I can just dump the font and use something else, but aside from this glitch, it really does what I'm looking for.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, John

The fontsmith's info makes it quite clear that th/thorn etc. is a
localization thing. Historical is only long esses:
    http://www.crazydiamond.co.uk/ot-features.html
This seems to work for me inasmuch as it certainly toggles the
otfLocale feature on and off for selected text (the equivalent of
checking/unchecking it in the OTF flyout if it were there, which it
isn't), but I don't seem to have any font with that feature to test
    it on:

//Switches between Localized and Non-localized OTF features

//is not text selected with the Type tool.
    if (app.selection.length == 1){
//Evaluate the selection based on its type.

    break;
//In addition to checking for the above text objects, we can
//also continue if the selection is a text frame selected with
//the Selection tool or the Direct Selection tool.
    case "TextFrame":

  • Weird fonts problem

The other day, I noticed that the fonts in my folder looked a bit off. For example, if I look at my "Applications" folder, it looks like some letters are in bold while others are not.
The same thing is happening in Safari. Certain letters don't appear at all, while others just appear to be formatted incorrectly. In fact, while I'm typing this very message, the font looks 'wrong'.
It's hard to describe, but it looks like when you take a font and use it in a size that it wasn't formatted for.
    Any ideas??

Not sure how I fixed it, but I did. I played around with my 'smooth fonts' setting, so that may have been what the problem was. But, I'm really not sure.

  • CSS11501 Upgrade Problem - can't remove software image

    Hi,
We have a CSS11501 which came pre-installed with software version 7.20 (Build 206).
I wanted to upgrade this to version 7.40, so our supplier sent us a CD with the software image.
The install failed, because the supplier sent us the wrong image (ap0500037s.adi).
They then sent us another cd, with the correct image (sg0740004.adi-gz) ...
... however, I couldn't upgrade to this version, because the system now has two software images (the original 7.20 and the ap0500037s.adi).
When I try to remove the incorrect image, the CSS says that it doesn't exist.
When I try to install an image, it says I have to remove one of the other images first.
I don't really want to have to remove 7.20, just in case I have to roll-back for some reason.
    Any ideas?

    Gilles,
I went into offdm, but the same thing happened.
I selected the option to delete an image, but there was only one image listed, and that was the currently working one (which I really want to keep, in case I need to roll-back).
When I use the upgrade command, it says 'you have to remove one of the images, would you like to delete ap0500037s.adi?' I select yes, but it won't delete.
Are there any alternatives to formatting the disk?
    Thanks,
    Paul.

  • Partition Problem can't remove Partitions (Tried Everything.)

So I've been trying to BootCamp my Windows 8.1 Pro x64.
But when i came to the install section where i choose and partition, and of course I choose the bootcamp partition.
But somehow it did not work, so i just restarted and went back to yosemite.
And I opened up my disk utility, and saw there was created different partitions,
like diks02s, disk03s and so on.
And when i press the minus button it won't get removed, and message comes up.
    Partition failed with the error:
The requested size change for the target disk or a related disk is too small. Please try a different disk or partition, or make a larger change.
So il try to resize, some hundreds mb, which does not work, when il try to resize, it just won't it is preparing to resize for hours even thought we are talking about 200mb resize here, i waited and waited for like 6 hours and it did not resize.
So i thought to get to the boot area (Like when you restart and hold in Command + R) and resize from there, it worked! But for like an half hour, before the same message came up :
    Partition failed with the error:
The requested size change for the target disk or a related disk is too small. Please try a different disk or partition, or make a larger change.
And yes I've been trying to resize from the boot area.
    Nothing works!

  • Weird font in some Gnome applications

I used to use KDE, and had installed the AUR oxygen-gtk package to give the GTK applications a KDE style. After a while, I decided to install Gnome and have since then removed KDE. However, the oxygen-gtk style gave some applications a KDE look, which looks ugly in Gnome, so I removed that package as well. However, now some applications get a very weird font. Can someone help me get the font to the same fonts used in GTK applications?
This screenshot explains what I'm talking about. Note the fonts in Chrome's bookmarks and the menu from Virtualbox, and compare it with the fonts used in Evolution:

    Hi,
    Follow the guide
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Op … e-shooting
It works. You must do the settings while the menus are in chaos characters. The following images show the places where you must modify the settings in OO.
Press OK if a step is complete. (OK is two "stars".)
For me, this fixed it and worked for libre as well.

  • Corrupted fonts can't remove

Apparently I have some corrupted fonts which I have not been able to remove.  I disable them, restart computer and some enabled again.  Attempt to remove via comand, occasionally they appear in trash but some have the grayed out "remove font..."
Anyone have any suggestions?  Lion OSX

Go to your Applications folder and launch Fontbook.
You can either select the one font you think is the problem.
Go under the File menu and select Validate Fonts
This brings up a Font Validation window. Here, if you get a little checkbox next to the font it’s good to go.  If you get a yellow warning sign, there may be a problem, and if you get a red “x” then the font is corrupt.
You can then remove the corrupt fonts by checking the boxes next to them and clicking Remove Checked at the bottom of the program window

    Hi!
How can I remove Top Sites button from Favorites bar?
There is no problem to remove it in previous Safari.

Correct - there's not been one found so far, that we've seen here, anyway.

  • Glitches in address fill-ins with nicknames; default font problem; plus other glitches in Thunderbird 31.3.0 and 31.4.0; can I roll back to an earlier version?

I am unhappy with the recent upgrade to Thunderbird 31.3.0 and now 31.4.0. My bottom line question is whether I can roll back to the previous version, which was working well for me.
The problems I have encountered include:
    1. I used to be able to enter a single letter in many cases in the address field, and the autocomplete would fill in the entry that I always use with that single letter. That function has been lost, as has auto fill-in based on the nicknames I have entered in my Address Book. I see there is another thread on this problem (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1036962), but no satisfactory answer so far. Entering a single letter now pulls up completely unrelated address entries that may not even have that letter as part of the name, address or nickname for that unrelated address. I have created new nicknames to try to adapt to this problem, but even these new nicknames no longer work with the 31.4.0 upgrade yesterday, forcing me to create yet more complex and hard-to-remember nicknames to pull up my frequent addressees. This is all very frustrating to me, as I depend on speed and ease when creating messages.
    2. Also, I used to be able to enter a single letter in the address field and then use the mouse to click on the "To:" symbol to the left of the next address line to change the next entry to "Cc:"; doing so would then cause the complete address to fill in in the "To:" address field, and make the next field ready for an entry. That no longer works. If I use that technique, the shortcut that I entered in the first field gets included along with the address (if I'm lucky enough to have the address itself selected now, given the problems I've mentioned above). I now have to press "Enter" in order to get the address in the first field to "take" correctly, and then have to click on the "To:" symbol for the next line as a separate action. Just another inconvenience with the new version.
    3. While still on the subject of addresses, personally I see no reason why the address and subject fields should now be colored blue by default rather than appearing as blank, white fields. I far prefer the old look. And I suspect that changing from the blue color to a nice, clean, white field takes time and computer resources that slow things down.
    4. The default font (Times in my case) no longer "takes" when replying to or forwarding messages. I've checked Tools/Options/Composition, and Times is still shown as my default font. However, when I start to type (in a reply with the original message quoted or in a forwarded message), the result is "Variable Width". In order to get Times, I need to highlight the block of text after typing, including the lead-in to the quoted message or the header of the forwarded message, and select "Times" when "(mixed)" shows up. This is a big pain; I often forget to do so and end up having to edit the Unsent Message (which I check before sending) as New and correct the font.
    5. A minor problem: I rely on the reminder to attach a message which shows up when an "attachment-related" word is entered in the body of the message. It has been a wonderful feature of Thunderbird that has prevented me on many occasions from sending off messages without the attachments. However, in the new versions, even if I have indeed added the attachment, a pop-up comes up on sending the message saying there has been no attachment and asking if I want to add one. It's easy enough to just click "No", but it's yet one more unnecessary and distracting step that this new version is requiring of the user.
I'm really sad to see these various changes/glitches. I love Thunderbird and it bothers me deeply to find myself mired in so many new problems that slow down my work. I would be grateful for any suggestions and advice, and, particularly, for any information as whether I can roll back to the version prior to 31.3.0 that was working well for me.

Thank you, Zenos. I tried rolling back to v31.2.0, since I had not encountered problems prior to December. However, that didn't help. So I followed your valuable suggestion to revert to v24.6; that seems to have done the trick.
I would like to mark this problem as "Solved" -- the rollback seems to have worked. However, since my original post was a complex mix of things, before I do that, should I post the individual problem sets that I had noted (address fields/nicknames problems -- numbers 1-3; default font problem -- number 4; attachment reminder problem -- number 5) as separate issues which have not been solved?
Do you know if these various issues are being worked on? I'm glad to have the temporary fix of rolling back to an earlier version, but I'd like to get back on the current update schedule at some point if and when these problems have been corrected.
    Thank you again!
