Weird fonts in Final Cut Pro

I have an issue with a font called Myriad Pro Bold Condensed. I'm runing Snow Leopard 10.6.3.
A few days ago I probalby messed up something with fonts. I work on iMac and several Macs Pro - each of them work in network.
The problem is: when i create a text in LiveType using Myriad Pro Bold Condensed, and then i put it on a sequence in Final Cut, the font is gettin' very weird. It doesn't show every letter. For example it shows every second or even third letter. When i change font everything seems to be OK.
The problem is it get weird problaby on the Macs i have updated. I'm not sure, but on several Mac which are not updated this problem doesn't occur.
Sorry for my english.
Any ideas guys?

You'd probably get the best advice by posting in the Final Cut Studio discussions area instead of here.
The only troubleshooting I could recommend would be to validate the font in Font Book. Open Font Book (it's located in the Applications folder) and find the font in the list you're having problems with. Right-click on the font and select Validate Font. Font Book will check to make sure the font is not corrupted. If the font is corrupt and you have a Time Machine backup available, use Time Machine to restore an earlier version of the font. If it is not, then it's probably something wrong with the Final Cut applications.

  • Fonts in final cut pro...

Hi I'm fairly new to Macs in general and very new to FCP. I'm using FCP 5.4 and just learning the ropes. My question is this when creating a piece of text you have the option to change the font. On my system or set up anyways there is no way i can see what the font will look like until i have changed it. Is there any (free) way to make the font names appear in the font style? or barring that does anyone know where I might be able to print out a list of the fonts that FCP uses in the font style itself? I've found a few lists of all the mac fonts but there all listed in the same font. any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks in advance,
    Brucey Bizzit

Actually, Final Cut Pro does show you a typeface preview in the text entry box, but it's so tiny as to be almost useless.
Not all applications show you a preview list in the typeface style. I seem to remember Freehand did, maybe MS Office too -I don't have either of them.
Other than learning about typefaces, you can go to Edit > Select All in FontBook then choose File > Print > PDF which will give you an onboard .pdf document with each typeface printed in its style.
If you have plenty of paper, or something against trees, print as normal.

  • Fonts and Final Cut Pro

    Hello,
A while back I posted a thread asking about using the font manager "Suitecase" and Final Cut Pro. It was clear that Suitecase should not be used with Final Cut. I work at an ad agency and we have a database of 4000 fonts. Does anyone know of a good font managing program that plays well with Final Cut? Using the standard font manager that comes with an Apple computer is not an option. Also, using Borris 3D is also not the answer because of the time it takes to create and make changes to a slate. Help me!
    Thanks in advance.
    -Amber

Any font management program should make fonts available to your system and all the apps in the same way, right? What's so bad about Font Book anyway? I was so relieved not to have to deal with Suitcase and /or Font Reserve once I got on OS X. I can see all my fonts, turn them on and off, it's easy to look for special characters, arrange the fonts in different collections, etc.
I agree that it makes me miserable to have to open the Boris Generators' type controls every time I want to make a change, and then not be able to preview my changes while I am working. Also, there is no way to duplicate a Boris generator and edit it and have it show up in the same position on the screen. If only they could simply give you an anchor/origin point for the text that acutally related to the alignment of the text object, as any normal, thinking person would expect. Also, try this one, copy and paste several copies of a Boris Generator in a sequence, put different text in each one, and try changing the alignment of just one of them, now notice that evey other generator in your entire sequence will automatically change its alignment as well. You could try to solve this by making the clips independent, but, oh wait, that's right, YOU CAN'T! Ha! jokes on you. Now please start over by recreating each of your Boris type objects from scratch. WHEE! (acutally, the method here is to format one and then drag it to your browser and reuse it from there, but don't copy and paste a Boris generator, ever.)
Add to this the way that these objects will randomly disappear or use vestigal render files when you export or encode mpeg-2, but never when previewing the timeline, and the way that Boris will render any project that uses a Boris generator unopenable if you replace your system Helvetica with the Adobe version, and you'll wind up with a lot less hair at the end of your day.
All that said, I use it all the time, and grit my teeth in frustration the whole way as I re-create, replace, re-format, troubleshoot, and double and triple check evey second of my work every step of the way, and re-encode, and reformat again, and troubleshoot some more.
If I have lots of lower 3rds or IDs to do, where I want them to come up in the same position on the screen, I find FCP's generic type generator works ok, as long as you never move the generator clip from 0,0 in the motion tab. The generator only converts the font to pixels once, and moving the resulting clip resample the video image of the type instead of regenerating the type from the font in te new position, which means that if you drag the clip to a new position in the canvas in wireframe mode, it will look blurry, always. Use the origin crosshairs in the type controls instead. Of course, the only generator that allows you to do this is the one that does not allow you to have multiple fonts, sizes, or style in a single object. The one thing I use type generators for most often is to make a lower 3rd template for use throughout a long program that will always occupy the same position on the screen each time I use it, and I wish I could use two different sizes in one object. I can't believe that this is the one thing that is impossible in FCP.
Another thing about the FCP type generators is that they do not support font families at all. Try Univers, for instance, and you'll notice that instead of 45 Light, 55 regular, and 65 Bold, you have Plain, Italic, Bold, and Bold/Italic. Notice also that if you choose Plain, you get italic. Fun! The way this appears to work is that, within a certain family of fonts, FCP will take the first four that it sees and assign them to Plain, Bold, etc., in the alphebetical order that the source files would appear in the finder (acutally I think there is an even more arcane, less logical method it uses to pick these styles, but I have never been able to figure it out).
These three issues, no character-specific formatting, quality loss if the clip is repositioned, and the inability to support font families, have never been resolved since FCP 1.0 - the tool remains essentially unchanged. Perhaps they figure that anyone who really cares enough about their project never uses it anyway, so why bother fixing it? But I acutally do use it with fairly good results, just never move the clip from 0,0, and if I need to use Univers 65 Bold, I just turn off all the other Univers families to force FCP to recognize 65 bold as "Plain".
ok, font rant over, we now return you to our regularly scheduled programming.

  • Loading fonts into FInal Cut Pro 5.0.4

Is it possible to load addtional fonts into FCP 5.0.4?
I loaded the font into all the font folders I could find and still they have not shown up in the Final Cut pro fonts? I restarted twice?
Am I missing some hidden file that I must load the fonts into?
    Thanks for your help

There is no provision for loading fonts into FCP. Use FontBook to add fonts; choose to make the fonts available to all users so they'll be installed in .[boot drive]/Library/Fonts.
But even with that, FCP won't see just any font. FCP seems to be partial to TrueType Data Fork fonts.

  • Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 & Snow Leopard 10.6.4 ---help!!!!----

I am having weird problems with Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 and it's functionality with Snow Leopard.
Based on feedback I found online, I am being told to delete the com.apple.FinalCut Preferences and the /User Data folder. Still, I have to do that repeatedly. Whenever I open the Project file externally , FCP jams. Afterwards, it won't start up again.
Also, it is claiming not to recognize an DVCPro HD 1080i60 connection ; although, this is the same camera on my G5 Mac with FCP 5.1.4 and OSX Tiger.
Anyone with the same problem know of any solutions?
    Thank you much!!

I have two computers -- one at home [a G5 Mac with OS 10.4.9] and one at my producers [ new Mac Mini with Snow Leopard 10.6.4 ] .
The computer with G5 / MAC OS 10.4 runs perfectly. The new computer is flaking out excessively however.
    For Quicktime, I have QT 10.0 (114)

  • Title Font Size in Final Cut Pro 6 for exhibition on movie theater sized screen

When editing a documentary and creating title cards (that play as part of the movie - text center of screen on black b.g.), lower thirds identifying speakers, and end credits (both single card and scrolling) are there some standard fonts and font sizes people use so the end result will not look too large when projected on a movie screen?
The titles are all from Final Cut Pro (a few from the Boris plug-in for FCP6) and there are no titles that move or that are created in Motion.
I will be able to make additional edits with the fonts sized for tv, streaming, DVD distribution etc. if I'm lucky enough to end up needing those as well.
    Thanks!

If the titling is properly composed for the frame size, it will look correct when projected. That is, if it looks font is legible and in decent proportion in your 1080 timeline, it's not important whether the display is 30 inches or 45 feet; the proportion will not change.
In terms of font selection, medium or bold sans-serif fonts work well on all screens.  "Plain" fonts like Helvetica, Ariel, or Lucinda tend to work better than the more stylized fonts, but if style is part oif your message, be my guest...
    hope this helps

  • Scrambled font output in Final Cut Pro 5.0.4

    Hi all,
I'm using Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 in Mac OS 10.4.3 on a 2005 Dual 2.7 Ghz G5 with 1.5 Ghz of RAM.
When I use certain fonts (for example, Apple's Hoefler Text) in any of FCP 5's text filters, the text appears scrambled. Either the material appears in the wrong font (I think it's Apple's "LastResort" font) or it's the symbol/dingbat version of the font. The scrambled output obeys my commands about italic, bold etc. but it's still the wrong font. With other fonts, the correct font is not selected from within the font "family"; I'll choose "Roman" and get italic and then chose "italic" and get an artificially bent-over "false" italic that's obviously the italic font canted to one side.
I've tried fixing permissions, switching to different versions of the Apple fonts (from previous system install discs), deleting FCP's preferences, deleting FCP's multiple font caches. Nothing works. The same fonts look fine in TextEdit and other applications.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Reconnect the offline media and life should be good.
Still, the best solution is for everyone involved with the project to be using the same version of FCP/Color.

  • Fonts display wrong in Final Cut Pro

One of the other editors in the office put together this piece and now I am making some changes to it on my machine. We're using the font "Baskerville" a common font that comes on the computer, and it is showing up correctly in the Font Book, but it is not showing up correctly in Final Cut Pro.
There should be other options like regular, bold, semiBold etc, but there's only bold, italic, and bold italic.
The other strange part is that when I first opened it on my computer it displayed wrong, and I tried reinstalling the fonts, and then it worked fine. I tried reinstalling the font again but it didn't help. I also tried restarting and that didn't help either. I checked in the Library > Fonts folder as well as the fonts folder under my user and the fonts match.
Any suggestions as to what I could do?

As far as I remember, Final Cut has always had this issue....
I believe it has something to do with Final Cut only reading True Type (not Post script) fonts.
That's why I only use Text for simple things like legals. For all other text uses, I use Photoshop...

  • I need the font style century gothic for a project im working on, but neither my final cut pro x nor my photoshop have this font style. Where do you get/buy new fonts?

I need the font style century gothic for a project im working on, but neither my final cut pro x nor my photoshop have this font style. Where do you get/buy new fonts?

    Not on this list.
Maybe it gets installed with something else? For example, I have MS Ofiice on the 10.7 system but not on the others.

  • Add font library to Final Cut Pro X

How can you import a new font library in to Final Cut Pro X?

  • Weird Final cut pro x cropping???

Hello Everyone. I need help. I was editing my video with final cut pro x and all of a sudden, ALL of my video clips were clipped off on each end. When played back at full screen it looks like a video from 2007 (it looks like theres a 2 inch black border around the video). How do I fix that? It's not a simple crop issue because i feel like my view finder for final cut changed from the classic display viewing to a tall rectangle instead of wide rectangle.

Sounds like the Browser window was enlarged, which might cause the Viewer to be both reduced in size and have its aspect ratio changed. And/or your project settings don't match your clip properties; and/or Fill or None is selected for Spatial Conform.
It would help if you posted a screen shot.

  • Final Cut Pro 5 on Snow Leopard

    Hello,
I'm really not sure if this has been answered by others, but so far, everywhere I look I'm either not seeing the answer I want, or it's a different platform. I have a MacBook (Aluminum, Late 2008) Model. It originally came with 10.5 (Leopard). However, recently, I'm not too sure how long ago, I upgraded my Leopard to a Snow Leopard because there were some things that weren't working on 10.5.8 anymore. But now, my old faithful, my Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 (Academic Ver.) no longer works right =( I can still open the application and I can also play my rendered files. However, when I want to edit my clips in the slug, the audio plays, but the video doesn't. I've tried many things already, and I already have all the codecs that I need for the application to work. Unless, having 10.6.8, screws things up? Is it really true that I can't use my Final Cut on Snow Leopard now? (From all the posts that I have seen.). I really do not want to part with this program, also mainly due to the fact I have no money, and I am comfortable with the program.
But the thing that is really weird is that my sister had a MacBook Pro that came with Snow Leopard already, she installed FCP 5 on her computer and it works fine. So how come it won't work on my computer? Is it because I only have a MacBook and not a Pro?
Your feedback would be most appreciative. Thank You.

How did you install it? Perhaps a required QuickTime or Pro update is missing. Ideally, one installs from the installation disk and then run Software Update until there are no longer any available, repair permissions and start editing. I assume that you can get what you need from Software Updates, but have no way of verifying.
If you reinstall, use Digital Rebellion's FCS Remover to may sure that you delete all the many files that Christoph refers to.
    Good luck.

  • Is my issue with Final Cut Pro or my Macbook pro?

I'm going to try to be as thorough as possible in explaining my situation because I can't figure this problem out and it's exhausting me. I have an early 2011 macbook pro with the 2.2 ghz processor. I upgraded to 16gb of ram almost a year ago. I've been using Final Cut Pro 7 on this computer for several years now without issue and have made no setting changes that would prompt my problems. A few months ago my battery decided to stop holding a charge and now just registers 0%. Around the same time, while editing a short video my computer began behaving like it was overheating. It would crash, restart, crash and then restart again. After I did a disk and permissions repair it began to work normally again and I haven't had any more crashing issues. Around this period of time I began noticing that when my computer turns on it doesn't register the correct time and date. Given a few moments it corrects itself, but for some strange reason it was doing that every time.
Anyway, around that time I tried to upgrade to Mavericks and experienced an issue during installation because my hard drive was apparently damaged in some way and the installation couldn't be completed. I restored my previous OS and tried to carry on as I was with the damaged hard drive for as long as I could. I was still able to do everything I needed on the computer. I could still edit videos with Final Cut. I could still browse the internet. I could still stream Netflix.
About a month ago Final Cut stopped working. I could open the program, start a new project and import media files, but when I dragged them into the timeline, they just stuttered (audio would play but video would lag and then jump several frames then lag and jump frames). At the time I assumed this was because my hard drive finally gave up, but I was still able to do other functions like browse the internet and stream basketball games with nba league pass (granted they weren't crisp hd - on a side note, netflix was also behaving oddly. when I would browse through my list, it wouldn't stop scrolling when I moved the mouse away.) so I assumed the hard drive was my issue.
I just replaced my hard drive with an ssd (crucial m500) and upgraded to mavericks (10.9.1) and now I am having the same issues. Netflix behaves fine. Basketball games stream fine. My battery is still dead (obviously that wasn't going to change). I get the wrong date and time for a minute, but I'm thinking that's battery related now. But Final Cut still lags to the point where I can't use it. Video clips also won't render. I thought this might be an issue with the Final Cut program so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but it still did the same thing. Assuming I hadn't correctly/completely uninstalled it, I downloaded HitFilm 2 (an editing program that had a free download promotion at the time), figuring using a different program, if i could edit video with it, then my issue is with Final Cut and not my computer. Unfortunaely, I'm having the same lagging issues with HitFilm as I was with Final Cut.
I'm at a loss as to what the problem is. Sorry if this was a rambling post, but I wanted to get as much of the background out there as possible, should it provides anyone with a clue as to what is the issue here. Does anyone have any idea what could be at fault here? I'm stumped.

  • How do I preset a title text style in Final Cut Pro X?

I want to use the same title stye again and again in Final Cut Pro X - font size, style, color.
Final Cut Pro is happy to have me "Save a Preset to Library", but then I never see it again.   When I go to the dropdown menu, all I get is Apple's list of truly hideous fonts like 80s, Aqua Fade, Candy, etc.
I save my favorite style as "Basic" and that does nothing either - as soon as I add a new title and apply the "Basic" setting I get Apple's horrible Gil Sans again.  What's going on?
Any tips on how to perform what should be a very simple operation?  Have spent more than an hour on this now.

Well, Tom, I guess I'm just not as fortunate.  Anyone else have any suggestions?
