Weird glitch in Viewer window Retina Display

I've been successfully running Final Cut Studio in Mountain Lion on my 15" MacBook Pro with Retina display for over a week now with no major problems. I am however noticing a weird glitch in the Viewer window in FCP7 playback. It's like a glitch where like a digital band sort of buzzes on the screen randomly when playing back. It doesn't always happen, but just sometimes.
The footage is rendered and doesn't have any 3rd party plug ins or filters on it. Just color correct 3 way and it is rendered.
The footage is ProResLT from a Canon 5DMKII playing off of a LaCie Rugged 500GB hard drive connected via USB 3.0.
The original footage is fine if I look at it on another computer or another monitor so this leads me to believe it is due to the Retina display since this is the first time I have ever experienced it. Has anyone else encountered this?

can't help you directly since I don't have the same equipment configuration, but...
Have you tried recompressing the material as a different kind of prores?  What are the pixel dimensions on the footage?
Have you tried hooking up an external monitor?
You say this just occurs in the viewer, but do you really mean just the viewer (which with the standard screen configuration is the left monitor) or does this happen with video playing on either the viewer of canvas.  Do you see this when you play full screen?

  • Weird artefacts in view window & QT

    Hi all,
I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this, or have experienced it. Since upgrading to Leopard, Final Cut occasionally displays some crazy artefacts in the viewer window, usually when pressing 'f' for match frame. I've also noticed it a couple of times when exporting from QT, the window displays nonsense. I've posted a link to a screen shot:
    http://www.alboardman.co.uk/image

I can just hear the narration now....
"When expecting heavy weather, it is advisable to pay special attention to securing the rain fly. I always use the super peg from Cotswolds Outfitters..."
I've never seen that other stuff, looks spooky. What happens when you trash the preferences? Any relief?

  • Main viewer window not displaying after Yosemite upgrade

I just upgraded tp Yosemite. Also upgraded Aperture (v3.6). Opened up Aperture. After it finished upgrading my library I noted that thumbnail images on viewer display OK but there is no image showing on the large viewer. Tried selecting different thumbnails. No success. Tried quitting and restart app. Nothing. Any ideas?

Thanks. I tried all three of the repair options but no success. However, after restart things started working correctly. Possibly it was the combination of repairs and restart that fixed it.

  • Weird Glitch when viewing Tiff files

I use the NIK software plug-ins a lot with Aperture. Lately I have been running into increasing glitches with the subsequent Tiff Files. Right now I notice when I use the 'z' full size feature, instead of a normal zoom, I get a black and white image with bars across it. When I zoom back out the image is fine. I have run into this a little before, usually could revert it back by de-clicking one adjustment brick or another, or worst case export and re-import the image seemed to work. But now it is almost a constant on all my new tiff files.
    What is going on?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Good to know I am not alone, and that it may be the plug-ins themselves doing the corrupting. The files are fine for exporting and such, just a pain if you want to keep editing it.
What is the best workaround for this problem until we get some help from the developers?
(Export as full size tiff, then re-import and delete the troubled file, has worked for me, but it seems excessive, and possibly one more step of degradation for the file.)

  • How best to manage Windows on a Retina Display?

I'm running a Macbook Pro 15" Retina, set up with Windows 8.1 on a Boot Camp partition, that I also access from within Mac OS X Mavericks using Fusion 6 (whatever the current version is). This means I've spent a bit of time trying to sort out the fun and excitement of using Windows on a Retina display, which is a whole world of chaos. Within Fusion, the secret is to tell Windows to just not use the full Retina HD display capabilities. Hobbled, but things display as you'd expect.
When I boot up using Boot Camp, however, there are still all mannger of issues that I can't seem to tame using the adapative scaling settings in the Displays control panel. Mainly pertaining to Java apps and games. A particular Java program I need appears to ignore the Windows settings and scales all text at impossibly small sizes (practically unreadable). Games like Neverwinter seem to freak out, with the UI failing to redraw to accomodate the resolution, and even having the entire active game window displayed as a large moving postage stamp in one corner -- not windowed, just tiny and in the corner like a misguided picture-in-picture view.
So, there appears to be all sorts of things that handle resolution in different ways. The consistent them is that they all seem to freak out when they're on a Retina display.
    Any tips or guidance?
    Thanks!

You have to copy the catalog and the previews folder over to your laptop. You know that you can't work in the Develop Module without the image files. But you can add keywords, titles, flags, color labels, etc.
You find the catalog by going >Edit >Catalog Setting >General tab. Note the name and location. Then in Win Explorer navigate to this location. The catalog is the file with the extension <  .lrcat> and the previews folder has the extension <  .lrdata> and is located next to the catalog. Copy both to your laptop. On your laptop - after Lr is installed - double-click the catalog file and Lr will open with it.
If you want large previews you have to generate them on your PC before copying the previews folder. Open Catalog Settings / File Handling tab and set the preview size you want.
Then - in Grid View - go to <All Photographs> and press Ctrl + A to select all your photos. Then go >Library > Previews > Build Standard Size Previews / Build 1:1 Previews (whichever you want). "Standard Size" is the size you've set earlier in Catalog Settings. Building the previews for 100 GB of images will take some time - it might take several hours. So be prepared for a long session in your favorite coffee house .

  • About to move from Windows to Mac. Considering purchasing retina display MBP 15" with dual boot system as I need some of my programs. How is the display in windows for photoshop?

Has anyone got any thoughts or have you yourself purchased the MBP with Retina display and added the dual boot system with windows?
I desperately need to update my gear and want a MBP.
I'm a full time photographer at my local paper and freelance photographer - use computers A LOT, and only use windows. I've experienced mac and know I prefer it, the way it runs pleases me a whole lot more and for the amount i'm processing/working I need something that will keep up.
With 12 years of photoshop gear loaded up for all my photo processing etc, I'm wanting to add Windows and have use of both. Windows would run photoshop that I had already purchased some time ago - question is, how will it run?  what will the display be like running Windows on Mac with the retina display?
I use CS4 at the moment and can't afford to upgrade to CS6 just yet, plus i'd waste a lot of what I already have by starting again on Mac. I'd use Mac for everything else, need the use of Windows for portions of what I do.
About to head to Canada and want to get set up for the road. Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks heaps!

There are some drawbacks, running Windows 7 (only) on a Mac via Bootcamp yields less than stellar results, especially with the Retina display.
And of your traveling, the Mac's high power needs (especially the Retina display) and lack of removable battery are going to be a serious issue. The Retina display is glossy, not ideal for viewing on the road and in varied environments.
CS4 won't run on the OS X version that comes with a Mac, so your looking at purchasing CS6.
Support for Windows is more widespread than for Mac's, also if you ever need to redownload OS X to fix a issue, requires a fast reliable Internet connection of the broadband kind.
If your running Windows on your Mac, you can expect to be on your own and not get support as easily as if you were running it on a regular PC.
If you can't afford to keep up with CS upgrades, then you shouldn't be considering a Mac because there are more paid upgrades on that than on Windows 7, it's like a annual nightmare.
IMMO your still better off on a decent,  1920 x 1080 res, matte screen, removable battery (with extras), Win 7 Pro i7 machine (Pro+ runs XP programs) which will stay like it is and get security updates until 2020.
OS X changes every year and if you don't upgrade, + all your third party software, then about 3 years later your left behind for updates.
Also you will have to buy Win 7 to run on your Mac, the OEM disks won't work.
If your trying to budget, then a Mac is certainly not for you.

  • Weird / Incorrect Icons - Safari, Lion, MacBook Pro Retina Display

Something weird seems to be happening. Certain icons, menu items and what not in Safari, System Preferences and so on do not show up properly on my new MBP Retina Display. Take the Safar bookmarks bar below, for instance:
What's with the little boxes next to the bookmark folders? And the bookmarks button itself doesn't show up properly.
    This is not all.
The back / forward buttons on system preferences windows don't show up properly:
This is the "accounts" option within MS Office for Mac. Look at where the "+," "-," and other buttons should be. Doesn't show up properly or doesn't show up at all.
And here is the window that allows me to add photos to this post. Again, screwed up:
It doesn't matter whether I'm using my Thunderbolt Display or the display on the MBP Retina. Same issue.
Anyone know why this is happening? It's incredibly bothersome / annoying. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

  • Targeting iPad 3 retina display from Windows

Will it be possible to target iPad 3 retina display from Windows using Air 3.3? If not is there an ETA for that? The idea of having to buy/use a Mac to do that is kinda bad.

    Version 10.1.2 Updated on March 19th, 2012
Does NOT fix this current issue of "Out of memory." for me.
I am trying to read a 28.17 MB file and have 26.1 GB Available memory space and 28.0 GB Capacity memory space.
Not sure if Availabe and Capacity memory space on the iPad 3 are related to the issue but I should be able to read this 404 page manual with no problems - but "Out of memory" is preventing me from viewing this document.
Keep working your magic Adobe! Not there yet.
Looking forward to another update. :)
    Keep us posted with progress.

  • Can you install Windows 8.1 Pro using Parallels on a new MacBook Pro without retina display?

I am starting a graduate school program and I would like to purchase a MacBook Pro. The options for the non-retina display fit my needs best, but it sounds like the resolution requirements for Windows 8.1 Pro do not match the MacBook Pro without retina. I need Windows to run a statistics program (SAS) and ArcGIS for mapping. Any thoughts or experience installing Windows 8.1 Pro on MBP without retina?

The native res on my 13-inch non-Retina is 1280x800. You might check with Parallels support or their forums to see if this is a problem.
If you go with the non-Retina 13-inch, I'd recommend getting 8GB RAM (standard is 4GB) because Win emulators need a fair bit of memory.

  • Is it applicable to run windows 8 on macbook pro, 13" retina display, mid 2014?

I wanna bootcamb windows 8 on a macbook pro 13" retina display mid 2014.
is it possible, specially that my drive is 128 GB only? does windows properly working?

    Hi ..
It is, but be aware, Windows 8 requires approximately 16GB's of storage space and you would have to partitition the hard drive.
Strongly recommend reading the entire Boot Camp user guide before proceeding >  Mac Basics: Using Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp
You will need to purchase a Windows install disc.
Alternatively, check out VMware as well as Parallels

  • How to Install Windows 8.1 on MacBook Pro with Retina Display Using Boot Camp?

    Hello,
I own a MacBook Pro with Retina Display and was wondering how do I install Windows 8.1 without an optical disc drive? I have bought the full version of Windows 8.1 and would like to partition it on my MacBook Pro. Could someone please help me out by posting step-by-step procedure or a video on how to do it? It is my first time partitioning the Windows operating system and would like to clarify with the community on this before I install it.
Thanks in advance for those who have helped!

Windows 8.1 is not yet supported by Boot Camp. The best way currently to install Windows 8.1 is to use a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox. Installation instructions are on the Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox site.

  • How to install Windows 8 on Macbook pro with retina display ?

Hi - How to install Windows 8 on Macbook pro with retina display ?
I am pretty new to the apple world. Tried doing it through bootcamp but did not success.
I am not interested to install it through Parallels or Fusion. Plz guide.
    Thanks !

OK, use Windows 8 in Bootcamp. Be aware that there are no Bootcamp drivers for Windows 8 yet. So you may experiance not only delays but display problems, freezing, crashes and other problems.
Here is the Bootcamp forum. Make sure you read all the posts from people experiencing Windows 8 problems with Bootcamp. https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp

    Hi Mende1,
Thanks for the fastest reply. Well, As I said I'm non tech noob on Macbook Pro.
Well, The Guide is simple but there are few questions which I'm not able to understop still.
    1. How to get the copy of Windows 8? I have bought Windows 8 Ultimate and I have Genuine Key with me but I don't have files.

  • MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display connect to Windows share very slowly

    Hello all,
I understand this is a well-known issue to OSX but I have tried so many "solution" and none of these worked. So I am wondering if this new thread could bring in some new idea for my troubleshooting.
I have just purchased a MBP 15" Retina Display and I am experiencing this very slow connection issue when accessing files on my other Windows 7 computer.
The Windows 7 computer is connected by wire to my Buffalo G450H Broadband router. And of coz my MBP is connected by wifi.
Tested on the MBP the Internet speed is okay, over 45Mb. However when I am trying to copy file from Windows 7, the speed is 1Mb at most.
Common solution like modify the nsmb.conf, changing sysctl network ack thing from 0-3, or even enable Internet Sharing or change the DNS server, all these tricks doesn't work. I also read a post to install SMBUp to replace the original OSX SMB service, not working.
With all these effort and I am going nowhere, so here I am, just hoping someone could help.
    Much appreciated.
    Issachar

    More detail here:
I am running Windows 7 on both Bootcamp and Pararell Desktop and they do not have such problem.
And since MBP Retina got no ethernet port, it might be wifi problem only but I am not able to identify it.
