Weird IMAP notification after 10.5.2 update

I updated my machines to 10.5.2 yesterday and I keep getting a weird notification box telling me something about my INBOX prefix not being present. My options are to "change" or "don't change" When I hit change, it re-synced my entire IMAP account (took about 2 hours).
After the sync finished, I noticed my folder structure looked different than on my laptop. So i dug around in account preferences and saw that Mail had added "INBOX" to my IMAP Path Prefix. Not knowing what it was, I deleted it (therefore matching my laptop). So Mail re-synced my whole IMAP account (another 2 hours). Sigh....
SO, now Mail continues to ask me to change my prefix at random times. What is this? Why is it happening?
Thanks-

Using INBOX as the path prefix is NOT the "correct way"; the correct way is server dependent. This is further complicated by the fact that servers that fully support the IMAP Namespace extension actually have more than one "path prefix".
On my company's server, we have the concept of shared mailboxes and the company relies extensively on them. If a user sets the path prefix to INBOX, he can no longer see the shared mailboxes, since that prefix limits him only to his personal mailbox hierarchy. So he must leave the prefix as blank in order to see the shared mailboxes.
Unfortunately, 10.5.2 has decided that a) it shouldn't honor the setting of "Keep Notes & ToDo's" to "On My Mac" and b) that it knows better than the user what the path prefix should be, and c) it doesn't have a "don't ever ask me again" on that annoying dialog.
I have already filed a bug report on this issue.

  • Re: Weird grey screen after 10.5.2 update?

Left my computer on this morning (did not put it into sleep mode) and came back tonight to see this weird grey screen. Could not get it to "wake up." Eventually shut it down manually and re-started. Seemed to boot up normally, but I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this on their computers after the update?
BTW, I understand that repairing permissions is done best off the install DVD, but I recall there were some issues with permissions on the install DVD? Is that true?

Can't help with the gray screen problem, but WRT permissions repair, you understand wrongly. Leopard and Tiger use the permissions information from the volume it's repairing, so it doesn't matter where you doing it from.

  • Weird iCal bug after 10.4.8 update

After updating to Mac OS X 10.4.8 I get the following display bug with my iCal reminders, i.e. the reminder appears way off to the side of the screen. This happens on both of my machines:
    http://web.mac.com/csearles/iWeb/Site%202/Photos%202.html
    G 4 Cube   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hello Chris.
Apparently noone at Apple cares enough to
    respond to this issue...
Sorry you and at least one other person are experiencing this problem but FYI - this is a user to user help forum only that is provided and moderated by Apple so it is a very rare when an Apple employee responds direct to a post or thread here.
Since I haven't experienced the same and this is the first I've seen such a problem reported, this issue may be caused by a problem with the iCal preference file.
Quit the iCal.app first and locate the iCal preference file in your Preferences folder at Home > Library > Preferences. Move the iCal preference file to the Desktop.
Launch iCal and check your iCal settings since all settings are stored in the preference file for the application.
If this resolves it, you can delete the old iCal preference file from the Desktop. If you can determine this doesn't resolve it before updating any preference settings, you can replace the new preference file created with the old preference file placed on the Desktop with the application quit before doing so.

  • Safari comin up with weird alert message after 10.4.3 update

after installing the OS 10.4.3 update safari comes up with alert message when launched: Safari 2.0.2 (v416.12) has not been tested with the plugin (null) (null) (v0.51). As a precaution, it has not been loaded. Please contact the plugin developer for further information.

I have the same error message for the "(null) (null)" plugin, different version number. I suspect there are going to be a lot of these as people update to 10.4.3.
How do we go about removing these plug-ins, or at least this paticular one, so we do not have to deal with the error message after starting up Safari every time? Under Help => Installed Plug-ins, I see it lists plug-ins from a Plug-ins.html file within the Safari.app package, but it's not clear how to manually manage them. I do not want to uncheck in Preferences all the Safari Plug-ins from loading. For this particular error, I'm not sure I want to mess with SIMBL.bundles...

  • ICal weird dock icon after 10.7.2 update

    Hello,
I updated yesterday to 10.7.2 and since then, iCal is showing one weird icon in the dock, when it is not running.
It looks like a trabsparent image with the current date in the middle in black.
When iCal is running, it shows then its normal icon as expected.
I am using a macbook pro mid2009, 2,53MHz, if that matters.
I removed and added back the icon to the dock, but the bahaviour still persists.
Any ideas how to solve this issue?

I've got the exact same problem, MacBook Pro 4,1 here. As you can see it's really tricky to see on a dark background:
Running the app makes this go back to normal...but only when the app is running. Note that the icon also looks like this in Launchpad.
I've looked through various forums and have tried all of these proposed solutions (evidently this is a common occurrance in previous iCal updates):
    Trash Dock preference file
Trash iCal preference files (all of them)
    Trash iCal Caches data
    Repair drive permissions
    Reboot
Pull icon out of dock and re-add it
None of those, except the first one, do anything. The first one "fixes" it briefly as it resets the Dock to defaults. This causes iCal to revert to the default icon all the way up to the point that whatever process goes in, grabs the current date, and alters the icon to show the current date. Whatever that process is, it's the one with the corrupted or missing icon graphics. If any one knows anything about what updates the iCal icon to show the current date, that would be the first step to fixing this.
Anyone else feel like Lion has been the buggiest OS X release thus far? Granted, I didn't use 10.0 or 10.1.

  • Weird permission problems after 10.5.7 update

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this but since the update, it appears my Firewire ports have been fried and I have lost three Lacie external drives. They WILL mount on my Macbook Pro running Tiger but my PPC which is my main compute will not see them at all.
When I ran repair disk permissions again just now, I got a bunch of normal repairs for Quicktime, iTunes, etc. but these were at the end and I never saw anything like this.
    Any idea what this means?
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/afpLoad" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DiskManagement.framework/Versions/A/Resources /DiskManagementTool" has been modified and will not be repaired.

  • Weird file got added in Login Items after 10.5.8 Update

    Hi,
I finally got a chance to apply Leopard 10.5.8 combo update to my MacBook. After the update was done, the system was restarted, and I saw Safari was bouncing at startup. The page Safari opened was one of the help file pages in iTunes with Russian. I immediately opened the System Preferences and check Login Items in Accounts, and I found the a new entry in the list (I don't remember the exact path, but it should be pretty close):
    local://Applications/iTunes/contents/resources/ru_proj/help/pgs/15375.html
I was afraid that my machine might be infected by some virus or malware, of course I removed the entry right away, and wipe out the disk and restore my backup.
Has anyone seen this weird problem after applying the combo update? Your help is appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Don

    Thanks for the response!
I am sure I did not put it in there, so why the installer put that page in the list is a mystery then (especially a Russian page, and I don't use iTunes on this machine either). I am still worried if there was a virus on my machine.

  • App problem #2 - notifications for app updates keep showing up multiple times even after those apps are updated

i had hoped these problems will go away by itself as o/s updates come but even with 1.0.6.2390, they seem to persist so i'm raising my hand so hopefully someone can help. this will be 2nd of 2 issues.
I currently have 5 notifications telling me to update 5 apps as follows:
    xtrem snowboarding to 1.5.1
    air browser to 1.9.0
    air hockey to 2.0.0
    globe news to 2.0.4
    finger magic to 1.2.0
The problem is that the only app that is not yet updated to the latest version as shown above is air browser - I currently only have 1.8.
All of the other 4 apps I'm already running the versions the notifications are telling me to update to. This has been happening ever since that o/s update where the notifications started popping up in top left corner of home screen in an exclamation mark.
If that's not weird enough, according to app world -> my world, I'm already running globe news 2.0.5!! And it's telling me to UPdate to 2.0.4!! I don't know if this specific case is an app world/notification issue or if it's related to my "app problem #1" posted separately.
    any ideas folks? thanks.

I had the same problem, until the update that was released today. that problem seems to have been fixed. I also had a bug in App World if I clicked on the link to sort the App by Free or Paid, Clicking free displayed no apps when there were some and the Paid showed free and paid. That issue was resolved as well.

  • Weird new icons after security update

After the last security update ("Security Update 2008-001 (PowerPC)" (1.0)) I started seeing a spinning globe and then a file folder with a question mark before the Apple boot icon appears during start up. Does anyone know what this might mean?
I ran disk utilities and verified my startup drive and every appears to be okay.

"Did you also use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions & reboot?"
    Yes, I did.
"Then, use System Preferences>Startup Disk, to set the current boot device."
No, I'll do this as soon as I'm done here and report back. Thanx!

  • Still getting update notifications after uninstall.

I uninstalled Quicktime and I am still getting notifications of ITunes and Quicktime updates?

I am having the same problem: "Some of your QuickTime software is out of date. You can fix this problem by updating your software." So, of course I did and still get the obnoxious pop up. It just won't go away. I'm not very technical, so can I get a step by step on how to get rid of this? Your help is greatly appreciated!!!

  • After 10.5.3 update

    Guys:
i've bought a Mac Mini that has Leopard 10.5.2, after i've got all my files from my other Mini and installed all my apps.
After this i've updated to 10.5.3 and now Disk Utility shows me the full capacity as 75.5000001 GB instead of 75.5 GB.
Microsoft Word 2008 doesn't work anymore.
I've tryed to download OnyX to check for some things and the image doesn't mount (weird but i thinks it's the update's fault.).
    What can i do guys!?
    Greetings from Chile

    :s
I'll think that i have to reinstall everything again and STICK to 10.5.2

  • Syncing and music problem after iOS 4.3 update

    Hi there
I updated to iOS 4.3 and found that my phone would no longer sync to my PC. After doing some research and trying lots of things (e.g. removing and reinstalling iTunes, de and reauthorising computer, forcing iphone to restart) I was having no luck so I did a restore. This didn't work either and just hung for hours, so had no choice but to stop it and then my partner managed to get my iPhone back to life on his Mac.
My iTunes then recognised it as new and I was able to start rebuilding my library. However, when I sync music to my iPhone now, it won't play - it just flashes up for a second and then crashes out. Only happens on my music - podcasts play fine. Haven't tried video yet. It also flashes up the album artwork but it is all distorted (cut in half with the bottom half at the top and vice versa...weird).
I tried downloading a song on my iPhone which played fine, until I then synced it with the computer and it got the same error as the others.
Any ideas?! I'm planning to uninstall iTunes again tonight (being sure to completely remove any trace) and erase all data and settings from the iPhone so I can start completely afresh. It's the only solution I can think of.
    Thanks
    Alan

I have discovered this is a problem with Windows 7 Updates (probably Service Pack 1) for me - after I installed the updates all my music corrupted again and iTunes started freezing and not backing up. Lo and behold, after formatting my computer again and not installing ANY Windows Updates, the problem was fixed and I've been able to add all my music back.
Now I'm not sure what to do - I would like to get Windows updated, but I know it's going to break my phone. Am tempted to try a different iPod manager software to see if that helps.
Where do I get the iTunes patch? (sorry if it's really obvious)

  • WiFi keeps dropping after 10.4.7 update! Is this an isolated incident?

I have no clue what causes this but what I can swear by is that this shlt started happening right after I applied the update. It seems as though when it is in use it is ok but when it is idle it drops connection. I had a black MacBook which was plagued by the same problem. I returned it and upgraded to the MacBook Pro which worked beautifully up until I installed 10.4.7. Anyone have any suggestions?

    YUP!
Go with Lincoln's suggestion... the Coconut Wi-FI solution. I use Coconut and have not dropped a connection for a good while.
** Here's a twist to the dropped connections saga: Just for kicks, I stopped using Coconut Wi-Fi to see what would happen; and lo and behold, still NO dropped connections (Ya, it's weird, in a GOOD way, but what the heck is going on?).
So I reviewed all my network Airport settings and noticed that somehow a "$" symbol has appeared in front of my WEP password. Don't know how it got there - I think Coconut Wi-Fi might have put there.
Don't know what the "$" symbol in front of my WEP password means or is intended to do. All I know is that since using Coconut Wi-Fi (and then stopped using it) the dropped connections have ceased in a big way.
So, I'm thrilled with this work-around.
