Weird interface of gnome after upgraded to 3.6
Hi there,
After upgrade to gnome 3.6, I see some really weird problems out there, and search around didn't return back any clue. One of the most annoying is as shown in the picture
The same phenomenon also happens to icons/text of the top-right corner and the right side text of the "show applications" panel. All themes/text in use are just default.
I also find another strange thing about locale. I have set my locale correctly in locale.conf
[04:40:47] [~] : cat /etc/locale.conf
LANG=en_US.utf8
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_CTYPE="en_US.utf8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_US.utf8"
But type in locale command in gnome-terminal returns
[04:54:20] [~] : locale
locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory
LANG=ar_EG.utf8
LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8
LC_NUMERIC="ar_EG.utf8"
LC_TIME="ar_EG.utf8"
LC_COLLATE=C
LC_MONETARY="ar_EG.utf8"
LC_MESSAGES=en_US.utf8
LC_PAPER="ar_EG.utf8"
LC_NAME="ar_EG.utf8"
LC_ADDRESS="ar_EG.utf8"
LC_TELEPHONE="ar_EG.utf8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="ar_EG.utf8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="ar_EG.utf8"
LC_ALL=
In the console (Ctrl+Alt+F2-6), however, the result of locale command is correct. I have no idea where is this "ar_EG.utf8" comes from....
Any similar situations or solutions? Thanks sincerely.

I'm experiencing the same video corruption as well, looking around other forums it may have to do with the OSS Radeon drivers and the latest round of updates for Gnome/libGL that came yesterday.
Looking at the kernel messages (dmesg) reveals the following error, which I'm pretty sure is new since the updates:
[drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to parse relocation -12!
Yup, it might be a radeon driver problem. I did a fresh installation on my laptop, which has a intel integrated graphics card, there is no such problem there.
About the second problem, it turns out that we have to choose languages in Region/Languages settings explicitly as Gnome 3.6 introduces this new feature, otherwise the Character Encoding system of Gnome would be unspecified and cause those problems.

Fedex Interface not working after upgrade
Hi gurus,
we are calling Fedex Ship API through RFC, to get the shipping label and will be printed from SAP.
fedex will send the Shipping label in binary format which is combination of characters and hexa.
after upgrading to ECC 6.0, this is not working.
best regards

This is a statement as "My PC is not working, please help."
The appropriate answer would be: "then you have to find the error".
Without additional information what exactly is not working when, providing logs etc. it's just impossible to suggest something.

Weird sounds in files after upgrading?
After many years of Apple hatred, I finally convinced my brother to buy an iPod. Now he has 3. He uses WinXP and has used iTunes 4.9 for a year now and has raved about it...
until now.
Wow Apple, a MAJOR critical error with your Windoze users. My brother upgraded to iTunes 6 and now his whole music set up has been completely shagged. He's managed after 3 days to get CD's to burn in iTunes and for iTunes to recognize his music files and play them but half his songs play with really low sound quality, almost like they are playing on an old record player with no bass. I understand it could be the iTunes 6 or the Quicktime 7 that is causing this problem from reading the discussion forums but how do I help him?
Please note, we have tried many of the suggestions in this forum, including the posts about setting the Quicktime Audio properly in the control panel. Nothing we have tried helps. This new version of iTunes/Quicktime simply will not play his previous music files with anything like its previous audio quality?
It puts Apple users in a tough spot when we sell the superiority of Apple products to our Windows friends only for them to find that the product is actually substandard to their Windows audio software. At the risk of being lynched here (I use both Apple and Windows) the problem's source is probably the vast array of third party possiblities that can exist inside every PC's box, the possible conflicts must be endless, I mean how do you even plan for that many kinds of sound cards? Pretty easy for Apple to upgrade iTunes for their own OS when THEY make the sound card... But we should keep this as an Apple only product if we can't provide a superior experience for Windows users...
my brother is pretty annoyed right now. Can I help him or just tell him to suck it up until Apple releases a patch.

[Solved] Eye of Gnome awful (broken?) interface after upgrade
Just today I've upgraded from eog 3.14.3 to eog 3.16.1 and am incredibly disappointed in the new interface I'm seeing, to the point where I expect something isn't working as it should. (I've downgraded to 3.14 as a temporary solution).
Normally (3.14) I see this handy menu bar with buttons for options I use quite frequently, including rotate and zoom to 100%. http://i.imgur.com/mLBxPX3.png
However, after upgrading, I get this crappy minimal interface with only an expandable zoom slider (which is unlabeled) and ever-present buttons obstructing the image. I can find nothing in the settings relating to this bar. http://i.imgur.com/l01DRVE.png
Again in the newer version, the hoverable menu when in fullscreen mode does have all these original buttons, they're just not in the main windowed interface where I need them. http://i.imgur.com/xsnlUTW.png
This seems incredibly broken to me (I've always loved eog over all others for the interface), but I haven't been able to find any other complaints since the release of this new version. Is this a new "feature" or have I just managed to make it broken on only my computer?
Last edited by JeSuisNerd (2015-04-21 00:48:13)Eye of MATE is absolutely perfect. I didn't use any plugins so I'm fine without them, and the interface and functionality seem to be identical to eog pre-update. Thanks very much!
Bevan, the icons were disappearing but the grey boxes under them were not. I'm not really worried about that anymore now anyway. -
Problems after upgrade to Gnome 3.2
I just upgraded to 3.2 and now I get an error on login. It goes as far as to load the blue vertical lines of the gdm login screen, and then i get a message saying "Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occured and the system can't recover. Please contact a system administrator."
here is the output for "cat /var/log/gdm/:0-greeter.log"
Thanks!

Lose interfaces from MRTG monitor system after upgrade.
After upgrade C7609S routers from:
c7600rsp72043-adventerprisek9-mz.122-33.SRD4.bin
to
c7600rsp72043-adventerprisek9-mz.150-1.S3a.bin
I lose interface with ip mpls configure form the MRTG SNMP pooling system. cfgmakre not see any more that interfaces (intrefaces fall on ($if_ok) filter). Other interface which not have a ip mpls configured is normally visible in the our MRTG monitoring system.
From my site it is looks like that interface when I configure ip mpls go to unknown state for MRTG. That interfaces are not any more ethernet type.
I can reach interface with configure ip mpls only with manual configure *.cfg file with ifindex value.
If you now how to fix that problem pleas let me know.
Best regards,
PrimozIm not a Mac person and dont really know if this will fix it but try re-setting the work area and see if it then sticks.
Show screen shots if you can.
Maybe another Mac user can help.

Gnome-Shell in Gnome 3.2 not working after upgrade
Hi guys,
after upgrading from Pacman, Gnome-Shell does not start up correctly. After login the Gnome-Keyring pops up (as usual) and after entering my password Gnome-Shell crashes ("oops.. something went wrong bla bla").
I could resolve this problem by deinstalling Empathy.
So basically I just wanted to inform others who may experience the same problem. Anyone knows why Empathy does not work correctly?I don't have this problem, but I have issues with Empathy's new clutter-based call UI not coming up. May be the problem is with clutter??

Weird query problem after upgrade to 10g
After upgrading from 9i to 10g I've noticed that one query slowed down drastically (from 100[ms] to 30[s])
SELECT ... FROM first_table LEFT OUTER JOIN second_table ON ...
WHERE first_table.number_column = '453' ...
What's weird is the redundant apostrophes around number in WHERE clause. The same query without those apostrophes executes in 100[ms].
I know it doesn't make any sense to put numbers inside apostrophes but it results from the application structure. Since I can't change the application I need the way to improve this query from the database level.
I tested this query with other databases (9i and 10g) and there is no differences whether the number is in apostrophes or not.
What does it depend on?
Any ideas how to speed-up this query?
Thanks in advance
KuntaHi Gerard,
When the query window comes from a table Oracle always recommends:
1) Use the /*+ ordered */ hint
2) Put the table the quiery window comes from (geometry-2 in the query) first in the from clause
However, your query is also written very strange. Do you know about SDO_WITHIN_DISTANCE? Or are you trying to do SDO_ANYINTERACT (since the distance is 0)?
So I would write the query you have as:
SELECT s.ROWNUM
from NOMINATIONS O, COUNTIES s
where sdo_relate(S.GEOM,o.geom, 'querytype=WINDOW mask=anyinteract')='TRUE';
or in Oracle10g:
SELECT s.ROWNUM
from NOMINATIONS O, COUNTIES s
where sdo_anyinteract(S.GEOM,o.geom)='TRUE'; -
Cannot use byobu shotcut in gnome-terminal after upgrading GNOME 3.12
I cannot use byobu to create a vertical pane in gnome-terminal after upgrading to gnome 3.12.
The shortcut of creating vertical pane is Shift+F2. When I press these keys, there is `6~' showing
in the terminal.
I have tried this key binding in urxvt terminal. It still doesn't work. However, when I tried in Xfce-terminal,
byobu worked well.
Any ideas? Many thanks.nashamri wrote:
Okay I think I found a workaround, Byobu depends on tmux and the same issue is happening with tmux with Shift and all the function keys.
So to get things working, just set the env variable $TERM to "screen-256color"
$ export TERM=screen-256color
and then run byobu again. I'm not sure if this will break other things, I'll report back if I find anything.
Thank you so much for this workaround! I already discussed the topic here without any success: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=184603.

After upgrading to ios 8.2, my keyboard on my iphone 5s is weird. When i typing a sms, the screen is locking it self. Does somebody have the same problem? Sorry for my bad english...
Hello Wexxwoxx,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that after you updated to iOS 8.2, while typing a message your iPhone seems to be locking itself. In this situation, there are a couple of different troubleshooting steps that I would recommend.
First, I would suggest closing the Messages application completely by using the instructions in the attached article below.
Force an app to close in iOS - Apple Support
After the Messages app is closed, I would recommend resetting your iPhone using the instructions in the next attached article. After the reset, open Messages fresh and attempt to use as you normally would.
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Have a great day,

I'm seeing a high runt count on my serial interfaces after upgrading to 12.
I'm seeing a high runt count on my serial interfaces after upgrading to 12.2(37).
I was looking for information on what changed in 12.2(37)and some more detailed information on runts.
I know that runts are smaller than the medium's minimum packet size. But I want more specific information and I can not find meaningfull information.
Any IdeasOn a serial interface I would contribute the runts to a timing problem which is not an easy problem to isolate esp. with a telco. Even though there may be no CRC or Frame errors.

I don't see the 'Enter' or 'Go' to button after upgrading to ios 7.0.2. Weird screen with just "Enter passcode" and a horizontal entry strip to enter password. there is only 'Done' on keyboard. When i hit 'Done' button screen shakes for a sec and resets the password. I remember my password very well. Need immediate help. Thanks. Must add that i had to restore the ipad from backup after 7.0.2 upgrade
iPhone required a proper restart. After restart both issues were gone.

Audio Interface Errors after Upgrade
Hi Y'all. I'm a bit dense on audio ins and outs, so bear with me. I have a M-Audio Firewire Solo audio interface. It worked fine for the last 5 months or so on Logic Express 7. After Upgrading to Logic 8 yesterday, it now records all kinds of beeps and static that I can't get rid of. It sounds almost as if there is a loose cable somewhere, except that logically that isn't it, since the only thing that changed since I last used it is the upgrade. Anyone else have this sort of problem? Thoughts?
OK, so FYI, M-Audio Tech Support has (knock-on-wood) solved the problem. I unplugged the audio interface, installed the Apple 10.4.10 Combo Update from the Apple website (I had never heard of this combo update, but apparently it updates things that would not otherwise get updated even if your Software Update says you are up to date), then repaired permissions in Disk Utility, uninstalled the M-Audio driver, fixed permissions, reinstalled the M-Audio Driver, fixed permissions, shutdown, plugged the audio interface back in (without the power cord, only firewire - apparently this is very important, not that M-Audio ever tells you that until it breaks), rebooted and presto!
It seemed kind of ridiculous to me, but hey, it seems to be working. -
UPS looks weird in IE10 after upgrade to SP1
Hi,
After upgrading to SP1 everything (as far as I can see) is looking good. Except some weird headlines in UPS. Any of you experiences the same problems? Running IE10Actually, there is an issue there. I see the text "Manage Profile ServiceUser Profile Service Application", but none-the-less, yes it is likely a bug. I wouldn't be too concerned about it.
