Weird Ipod Space problem

I have a 40 gig 4th generation ipod. I dropped it by mistake yesterday and began encountering problems (it would skip through songs without playing them, and finally would only show the folder icon and the support/apple/ipod message). The plastic case was even coming out of the metal backing. Anyway I popped it back in and restored it (although it took like 10 mins to restore rather than the regular 1 or 2). Well then it still wasnt working properly so I formatted it, then restored it.
Now it seems to be working perfectly EXCEPT.....it now shows I have a grand total of 16 gig on my ipod rather than 40. I have no idea what to do now. I have checked it with both itunes as well as through start\my computer and it clearly shows I have only 15.99 gig TOTAL of space availible. What is going on?

But then why would it still be working? I dunno, I still think something else may be going on. However if this is true know where I can get a new 40 gig hard drive the cheapset?

  • Some playlists don't show up - weird iPod syncing problems

Apologies if this question has been answered elsewhere - couldn't find the answer when I was searching the boards last night. Don't know if this is an iTunes problem or an issue with the touch...
Last night, I plugged my iPod touch (1G) into my MacPro to add some new music. This is when things got weird!
First, I noticed that my iPod's name had mysteriously changed since the last time I synced it. It used to be called "Christine's iPod" and now it has reverted to the default "iPod touch."
Next, when I went to add some different playlists to the iPod, I noticed that one of the playlists I wanted to add didn't show up in the Music tab, so I couldn't "tick" it for inclusion on the iPod. This isn't a new playlist, and I have successfully synced it with this iPod in the past. I tried renaming the playlist and making a new playlist with the same songs, and neither of these playlists showed up either. BTW, I definitely don't have too many playlists - I probably have 100-150 playlists total.
Anyway, I restored my iPod and starting from scratch - and the playlist still didn't appear to be available to sync. I ended up adding the playlist by "manually managing" my music, but this isn't an ideal solution. I'd like to be able to sync the playlist!!
Don't know if it's relevant, but my bf also has an iPod touch that he syncs to the same iTunes account. We have separate computer logins, and our iTunes Library is on a shared disk on our MacPro (to prevent needlessly wasting HD space due to song replication) and occasionally we both get messages saying we don't own or don't have permission to access the Library when opening iTunes. To solve this, we alter the permissions on the disk and apply to enclosed items. Maybe this happens after updating iTunes or adding new songs? Not certain what triggers it.
Thanks in advance - this is really bugging me!

This isn't foolproof but there are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If tracks are missing an Album name (as mentioned above) in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
Also if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder which may be why this happens.

  • Weird iPod app Problem

When I go to the iPod app in my iPhone, it says that there is no content. But, after I have bought a song in the iTunes WiFi Music Store and then tap the black "Purchased" button in the Downloads area that brings you to the Purchased playlist in the iPod app, I can view everything on my iPhone -- so the content is being synced. I can also view through iTunes that the content is being synced. I have tried to rebuild my iTunes library. I really have no idea what's going on. It's just when I tap the orange iPod button that I can't view any of the content.
I'm running Leopard, by the way, and the latest version of iTunes.

my problem in iphone is when im listening to music on ipod the volume goes down. The volume is full in the settings. Only after I restart the phone it becomes normal. But again when I access the sounds settings the volume goes down again…
    can some1 help with this… ???
my speakers are not working… even when the headphones are not connected.. its 1 week now and im still unable to listen music from the speakers.
    What may causing this… ??

  • IPod space problems

After restoring my 4th gen 20GB iPod, I connected it to my computer and there was a problem. For some reason, iTunes said that the iPod only had about 500 MB of storage. I ran the HDD R/W Diagnostics mode test and the test stated that I only have 1 GB of storage. I've never seen this problem before and am not sure why it would do something like this.
    Any thoughts?

I posted a question about that when it happened, since the symptoms weren't really normal

  • Really weird ipod touch problem

so the day i got my ipod touch i was really careful with it i pretty much kept it in one place all day and night but in the morning a strang mark had appeared on the back of it, kind of dark greyish with little dots, looks almost like a small fingerprint, small though, a litle smaller than the apple logo on the back...so anyway i took it to the apple store yesterday they told me they have never seen this problem before and they gave me a brand new one....everything worked perfectly fine with my new one and i took extra care to make sure it wasnt damaged or near anything hot or something like that i pretty much just kept it in the same place all day and night again but then this morning i woke up and the same mark was there again on the back of it cant remmeber if its in the same place or not but its on the same level as the other one was but i cant remember if the first one was on the right or left side, but its on the left side adjacent to the apple logo on the back about a quarter of an inch away from it....i hadnt dropped it, put it next to anything hot, it was sitting in the same place almost all night just like the first one..... the apple people are baffled they offered to give me a new one but i think it will just hapen again...so what could be the problem!?!?
at this point im starting to think its a poltergeist

The second ipod was in a different location on top of my wooden dresser in my room, in a one story house, inside the ipod sock, when it wasnt in the sock it was on a wooden table plugged into my macbook for activation
first time it was on top of a wooden table not near any windows, and the temperature inside my room is rather cool
here, in the suburbs of san diego CA, the temperature is mild right now, not too hot not too cold so...
the ipod was on its back both times
both times it took me one day to see it, from the time of purchase to the next morning...
    thanks!

  • Weird iPod charging problem

Well I have this rather odd problem that I cannot seem to find or fix myself. I bought a few iPod charger cables from eBay the other day (5 of them) as I didn't have that many spare around the house. When I first used the cables, they worked find untill today. They just do not want to charge my iPod no matter what I do. Now to make sure it's not a problem with my iPod's charging ability, I used one of the cables that came out of the box...and it worked. I've tried different USB ports, power points and about 4 different wall chargers and still, the cables didn't work.
Now the cables are sold as actual iPod cables, and they llook idential and no one else has had any problems. So I thought what about them using on other iPods in the house. I tried them on my sisters 3G, sisters 4G, nano 1G, nano 2G and nano 4G....and the cables worked. Every iDevice in the house worked with the cables but my iPod. The versions of the ipods are the same (4.3.3) and are all synced with the same computer.
But why isn't it working on mine. My iPod can charge with every cable BUT the ones that I recently bought. And every other iPod charges with the cables so it's not a problem with the cables.
    I'm using a iPod Touch 3G
    iOS version : 4.3.3
All help will be taken into account, and thanks in advance,
    xxSHABSxx

I didn't buy the cables from the Apple Store, I bought them from eBay. And it's not the cables problem as it charges every other device in the house.

  • Weird iPod Touch problem

The problem I'm having with my iPod Touch is that whenever I press "up" on the volume control button on the side, the volumes goes up AND it automatically locks itself. Also, whenever I press the Lock button at the top, the iPod locks itself AND makes the volume go up by one. I don't have any of these problems with the down volume button, or when adjusting volume with the screen bar.
So I tried to fix this the best way I know how. Just reboot (You know, hold down the lock and home screen button for about 10 seconds) the iPod and everything should be fixed, right?
Wrong, this just caused all the light from my screen to slowly fade away until it was just blank, and when I tried turning the iPod back on, it wouldn't do anything. I wasn't able to turn on the iPod at all until I hooked it up to the charger. Once I did this, the iPod turned back on but the same problem still existed.
So I decided to restore my iPod to the orriginal settings, and then upload the old files. The same problem still existed.
Can anyone PLEASE tell me how to solve this problem, or if it's even fixable?

See your local apple store if its still 1 year old, unless you got Apple care. It's probably a wiring issue.

  • HD space problem - startup disk shouldn't be full...

    Hello everyone.
I'm having a really weird problem with my hard drive. All of a sudden, a message popped up saying that my Startup Disk was almost full, and the system profiler read it as having "zero k". This is extremely odd because I had about 19 Gb free just a moment before, and after checking folders, apps and documents there really shouldn't be a space problem. The first message came up right after importing a CD, but that shouldn't have caused this.
I tried deleting some items, but space increased only by that tiny amount. After a restart, the indicated hard drive space randomly jumped up to 1 Gb. When I woke it back up right now it was down to 200 Mb, and after another restart it's just come up to 650Mb. It just seems to fluctuate...
If anyone knows what the issue might be or what I could do about it, please help! Thanks,
    silvia

Hi. Thanks for the tip, it was really helpful. Everything was as expected except for some log files in my Library. The sizes are mostly up to 100 K except for one huge 15.9 Gb file, called console.log.2 in a strange folder called 501
    It's located in
    Library > Logs > Console > 501 >
I'm really not sure what these files are and what they do, or what these folders are. Can I trash them or is that a problem?
Also, I've noticed that my hard drive space is actually continuously decreasing little by little... Do you think this is related?
    Thanks,
    silvia

  • Ford Voice Control & iPod playlist problems

Ford Voice Control & iPod playlist problems
I am having problems with the voice control system and my video ipod (5th gen) in a new Ford Focus Coupè-Convertible which also has Bluetooth phone conectivity ( works great with my iPhone 3G) as well as USB & Voice Control
This is all done through a Sony audio unit (model Sony 6CD DAB) which has a Six disc CD changer built in, as well as the usual FM & AM Radio bands as well as DAB Radio.
My problem relates to the voice control of my ipod and playlists.
Now some commands work just great For example if I say the following sequence ( which the unit repeats back to me at each stage) it works great:
    "External Device"
    "iPod"
    "Play"
All works well as it starts playing whatever playlist the iPod was in prior to connection to the unit, or if no playlist had been selected it just plays the whole contents of the iPod. - It also works fine with the commands "Shuffle" or "Repeat".
But according to the user manual I am supposed to be able to play or select a specific playlist by voice command using the following syntax as quoted from the manual:
'...create playlists named with the structure "Ford<*>" where <*> is a number 1-10. For example "Ford7" without any spaces between "Ford" and the number.
So I made several playlist called
    Ford1
    Ford2
    Ford3
and so on up to Ford10.
Now according to the voice commands list I should say the following phrases which like before, are repeated back to me by the system:
    "External Device"
    "iPod"
    "Playlist"
    Then the unit responds with
    "Playlist Number Please"
Then according to the manual I should say the following:
    But when I say either
    'Ford1'
    Or
    '1'
Or any right up to 'Ford10' / '10'
It responds bystating that playlist number (X) not available.
I have also tried with the quotation marks ("") around the name eg "Ford1", but that has not worked either.
So I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this problem and knew a solution, or could tell me where I am going wrong.
Although my car is a UK model, I believe that this voice control system is available with Sony units in American cars as well.
Hope you can help as this is driving me nuts!
    Thanks

    Hi Drusus.
I also have a European Ford (Focus ST - 2009) with the same problem.
Have you found any solution to the problem, or know if its possible to contact Ford...?
    Cheers.
    \Christian.

  • Space Problem in G: - after NW2004s SR1 installation on Windows 2003 server

    HI Friends,
I have installed NW2004s SR1 on Windows 2003 server with Oracle 10g database successfully. My server has sufficient harddisk space as follows.
    C: 9.6GB
    G: 24GB
    H:64GB & I: 73GB.
    RAM is 6GB
While installing NW2004s i have defined a paging size on C: 400MB-1600MB and
i have set the option as System Manageble on other drives G, H& I drives. I did not get any Swap space problem while installing.
During installation I have chosen G: drive to store MirrorlogA, MirrorlogB, Oraarch, OriglogA, OriglogB folders of Oracle for redolog archives,.Total size of all these folders is 17.4 GB
G: drive has one more folder Program files which is of 155KB  and no other files exist in it.
But My system says that I am running out of Space on G: drive and free space available now is only 44MB.
My question is where has the rest 5GB of space gone? Is it consumed as a part of Paging file which i have set on this drive as System manageble??
I have set the same option on other drives too i..e H & I. But i am not facing any space issues for these drives.
What could be going wrong?? Please suggest me how to correct this
    Thanks

Please ensure that this directory is writable and has at least 45MB of disk space. Installation cannot continue"
I double-insured that there is enough disk-space and I am also in the Administrators-Group.
Please guide me for the above problem although I have done oracle 9i database installation with the same configuration.

  • Ipod syncing problems...?

Im having several ipod syncing problems. I have an Ipod touch, 4th gen with the standard USB cable that comes with to charge it and sync it with. Today, i plugged it into my computer like normal to sync some new songs onto it from itunes. But, it started acting up. First, it kept syncing on and off, and the sync sound wouldnt stop- it wouldnt stay synced. then, later, when it finally did, not long after it said "this device does not support charging," and itunes didnt recognize my ipod anymore, so i couldnt sync my songs. is there any way i can fix this? thanks in advance.

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • [iPod 5G] Problems with Windows' iTunes keeping it synced.

I've been struggling to get my iPod 5G working on my windows computer. This is what happens EVERY time:
    - I connect my iPod, it gives me "Cannot read the content of the iPod XXX...."
    - I Restore my iPod (have also formatted it completely several times).
    - the iPod shows up in iTunes and it syncs.
    - I take the iPod out and i reconnect and it starts all over again and i get: "Cannot read the content of the iPod..."
Connecting the iPod to my MacBook will make it appear in iTunes and I'll be able to see the music and update it.
Things i've tried (in semi-random order, except for the last one):
    - Updated the iPod (1.2.1)
    - Restored the iPod about 10x
    - Different USB port and different iPod connection cable
    - Erased the iPod (3x): using Windows' format tool 1x and the Disk Utility in OS X 2x.
    - Uninstalled iTunes, Reinstalled.
    - Fresh install of Windows XP.
Could this be an iPod related problem? (it seems to work fine on my Mac)
Could this be an iTunes 7 related problem?
The iPod is brand-new, i got it after my old one had gotten a white screen that wouldn't go away. Could it be a faulty iPod they gave me?
P.S. Please don't suggest to 'just sync it with your mac' because it should work with the Windows computer that holds all my music.

    hi chris
    the difference is:
at home i've started it and it has been running 12 hrs without touching it
outside i've used it while running through the park five times, so i started and stopped it five times without touching it otherwise (didn't change songs)
do these five times starting/stopping waste 8,5 hrs battery runtime?
