Weird iPod Touch problem

The problem I'm having with my iPod Touch is that whenever I press "up" on the volume control button on the side, the volumes goes up AND it automatically locks itself. Also, whenever I press the Lock button at the top, the iPod locks itself AND makes the volume go up by one. I don't have any of these problems with the down volume button, or when adjusting volume with the screen bar.
So I tried to fix this the best way I know how. Just reboot (You know, hold down the lock and home screen button for about 10 seconds) the iPod and everything should be fixed, right?
Wrong, this just caused all the light from my screen to slowly fade away until it was just blank, and when I tried turning the iPod back on, it wouldn't do anything. I wasn't able to turn on the iPod at all until I hooked it up to the charger. Once I did this, the iPod turned back on but the same problem still existed.
So I decided to restore my iPod to the orriginal settings, and then upload the old files. The same problem still existed.
Can anyone PLEASE tell me how to solve this problem, or if it's even fixable?

See your local apple store if its still 1 year old, unless you got Apple care. It's probably a wiring issue.

  • Really weird ipod touch problem

so the day i got my ipod touch i was really careful with it i pretty much kept it in one place all day and night but in the morning a strang mark had appeared on the back of it, kind of dark greyish with little dots, looks almost like a small fingerprint, small though, a litle smaller than the apple logo on the back...so anyway i took it to the apple store yesterday they told me they have never seen this problem before and they gave me a brand new one....everything worked perfectly fine with my new one and i took extra care to make sure it wasnt damaged or near anything hot or something like that i pretty much just kept it in the same place all day and night again but then this morning i woke up and the same mark was there again on the back of it cant remmeber if its in the same place or not but its on the same level as the other one was but i cant remember if the first one was on the right or left side, but its on the left side adjacent to the apple logo on the back about a quarter of an inch away from it....i hadnt dropped it, put it next to anything hot, it was sitting in the same place almost all night just like the first one..... the apple people are baffled they offered to give me a new one but i think it will just hapen again...so what could be the problem!?!?
at this point im starting to think its a poltergeist

The second ipod was in a different location on top of my wooden dresser in my room, in a one story house, inside the ipod sock, when it wasnt in the sock it was on a wooden table plugged into my macbook for activation
first time it was on top of a wooden table not near any windows, and the temperature inside my room is rather cool
here, in the suburbs of san diego CA, the temperature is mild right now, not too hot not too cold so...
the ipod was on its back both times
both times it took me one day to see it, from the time of purchase to the next morning...
    thanks!

  • Some playlists don't show up - weird iPod syncing problems

Apologies if this question has been answered elsewhere - couldn't find the answer when I was searching the boards last night. Don't know if this is an iTunes problem or an issue with the touch...
Last night, I plugged my iPod touch (1G) into my MacPro to add some new music. This is when things got weird!
First, I noticed that my iPod's name had mysteriously changed since the last time I synced it. It used to be called "Christine's iPod" and now it has reverted to the default "iPod touch."
Next, when I went to add some different playlists to the iPod, I noticed that one of the playlists I wanted to add didn't show up in the Music tab, so I couldn't "tick" it for inclusion on the iPod. This isn't a new playlist, and I have successfully synced it with this iPod in the past. I tried renaming the playlist and making a new playlist with the same songs, and neither of these playlists showed up either. BTW, I definitely don't have too many playlists - I probably have 100-150 playlists total.
Anyway, I restored my iPod and starting from scratch - and the playlist still didn't appear to be available to sync. I ended up adding the playlist by "manually managing" my music, but this isn't an ideal solution. I'd like to be able to sync the playlist!!
Don't know if it's relevant, but my bf also has an iPod touch that he syncs to the same iTunes account. We have separate computer logins, and our iTunes Library is on a shared disk on our MacPro (to prevent needlessly wasting HD space due to song replication) and occasionally we both get messages saying we don't own or don't have permission to access the Library when opening iTunes. To solve this, we alter the permissions on the disk and apply to enclosed items. Maybe this happens after updating iTunes or adding new songs? Not certain what triggers it.
Thanks in advance - this is really bugging me!

This isn't foolproof but there are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If tracks are missing an Album name (as mentioned above) in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
Also if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder which may be why this happens.

  • VERY STRANGE IPOD TOUCH PROBLEM

    Hey guys,
I think i have a problem and i havent been able to find anyone else that has been experiencing the same thing.
Every once in awhile (like every 2 or 3 times) I try to sync my ipod touch, i get an error. I either get an error that says that the ipod has timed out or that itunes could not connect to the iphone due to an unkown error (even though i have a touch, not an iphone)
I then unplug my ipod, and plug it back in...my computer does not recognize that it is plugged back in. I realized that ALL my usb ports on my computer have stopped working at this point...i try my usb mouse, doesnt work, i try my ipod again, doesnt work...and i try them on different usb ports, doesnt work.
so i restart my computer, and as it is booting up, i get this blue screen that like flickers and what not across my laptop screen. after its done booting up i get a message on my laptop that says "windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" The thing is, I clicked restart...so it should not of been unexpected. It says that the problem was "blue screen" and that it was caused by the usb ports somehow.
Well then i load up itunes, plug my ipod into the comp again, and it syncs fine (at least for the nest 2 or 3 times) And all my usb ports work once again.
Any ideas on what is going on here? Is it a problem with my ipod, itunes, or computer?
Oh and after my ipod has been turned on for awhile and im using it, the grey area around the apps in the dock area flickers very slightly. I dont know if this is related.
    Thanks alot guys

ok thanks guys...but i have an update and it quite strange.
so i set my itunes so that it would NOT open when my ipod is plugged in (so that i could just plug my ipod into my comp and charge it without it automatically opening itunes and syncing it). So i plug my ipod into one of my two usb ports on the side of my laptop (i also have 2 in the back).
Oh and keep in mind i have a usb mouse plugged in using 1 of the rear usb ports during this process.
so my ipod starts charging and itunes doesnt open, so im happy. When the ipod was fully charged i unplugged it. after a min i decided i wanted to shop for some apps, so i decided to plug it back into my comp so i didnt use any battery...but my laptop didnt recognize it. i tried unpluggin then plugging back in a few times....didnt work. my usb mouse in the back still worked....and i also tried unpluggin that and pluggin it back in, and it continued to work as it should.
i then tried pluggin my touch into the second usb port on the side....didnt work. So i decided that since my usb mouse was working like it should in one of the rear ports, i would unplug that and then plug my ipod into that port. so i did this, but my ipod still was not recognized by my computer. so i unplugged my ipod and plugged my mouse back into the usb port...but now my mouse wasnt recognized either! so its like wherever i plug my touch into, it disables that usb port.
any help at all guys! this is so weird. im gonna try to update my drivers but i have tried previously and it didnt work so im not sure what to do.
    thanks alot

    Anyone know how to fix?

  • IPOD touch problems.. pls help!!!

My son recently received a IPOD touch for Christmas...that was the 25th, were on day 3 now of trying to hook this thing up... we can't please HELP!
I have downloaded itunes... twice. ( uninstall, reinstalled)
I keep getting a meesage that says " make sure your network connection is active and try again" when we try to go to the ITUNES store.
So, I was told to drive to Mcdonalds & try and hook up their.... We were able to connect but before I could get him any games and music, I was told to create an account... I did this.... had to drive back home to activate the account... once I clicked on the link to activate from my email I received a message that says " WE COULD NOT COMPLETE YOUR ITUNES STORE REQUEST. AN UNKNOWN ERROR OCCURED (11222) THERE WAS AN ERROR IN THE ITUNES STORE. PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER."
I then decided to run the diagnostic in the help section of the ITUNES store.... when I did this a thing failed talking about no audio CD card found. Also, it says " SECURE LINK TO ITUNES STORE FAILED"
I have been through all of the self help. YES... I made sure firewall has ITUNES safe to go through. I have checked marked all the proper locations.
I called my internet provider they were of no help to me but assured me my internet connection is running fine.
Please, help me get thing working for this little guy. PLEASE.. this has been so frustrating... He's 11 ( you can imagine his patience level) Poor kid has been doin triple on chores & straight A's to get this IPOD for x-mas & now I can't get it to work. I feel jsut horrible.
I have a windows vista. cable connection, no wireless, had virus protection I uninstalled & my bonehead husband decided to do a system restore on my computer and now the dang virus protection is STILL on my computer and I cant uninstal it.... is THAT causing the problems?
    What? Anything?? Please help!!!

Whoa .... first thing - do not un-install or disable virus protection! You may need to get the virus protection software to recognise your iTunes but don't un-install it!
Next - don't bother driving to any fast-food outlet, there is life without them. (You probably need to get your store account working from a home PC before trying to get online from a public network that anyone can use!)
As you've downloaded iTunes, that suggests your internet connection is okay (so that's exactly what your internet provider will say). The message to "make sure your network connection is active and try again" means ... make sure the firewall is allowing iTunes to get online, you say it is, so is the connection itself active? If you can get to any web site through your browser - then yes, it is.
However, what's disturbing is the message "no audio CD card found". That seems unlikely in this day and age. Can you hear any sounds that are played on the computer, either from a web site or from a CD in the CD drive or sound file? If yes, then there is a sound card. If no, find out what this problem is.
    Got through all that?
With iTunes running, load a CD into your computer. Does it appear in iTunes, look on the left of the iTunes window, under devices, the CD should have appeared? The song names should be listed, If not, click on *Advanced/Get CD Track Names.* Click on import CD. It should be imported to iTunes and if you have the correct settings apllied, it should be copied onto the iPod at the next Sync.
If you manage this, try the Store, through your iTunes.
    How are you getting on?
    Phil

  • I requested a repair, but there was an error after clicking the button with my credit card info. I was still charged, but the form email I received the next day had incorrect info about my iPod Touch problem. How can I contact CS w/o paying $19?!

My iPod Touch battery is not working. I requested a repair through the Apple Support. On the final page, when I clicked the button that puts the info through with your credit card number, the resulting page gave an error (I wish I'd have saved it!). Anyhow, I checked my credit card and it was charged, so I assumed the repair request went through. The next day I received a form email saying my problem was with "Sync with iTunes (Not iCloud) - Data Backup/Migration (not iCloud)" instead of the battery repair. It also says for iPod customers, to send your iPod to Apple - but I had requested the "iPod Coffin" to be mailed to me so I could send it back. Obviously there was an error between the request and what was received, so I'd like to ask Customer Service about it. However, I can't find a way to contact them. When I replied to that form email, I recieved an automated reply saying emails there were not read. Anything online asks me to pay $19 and I don't have the correct issues to request an exception. The closest store is over an hour away or I'd simply go there to ask. What can I do?! Any suggestions you have are much appreciated. Thank you!
PS - The form email also says if I wait 10 days the repair request will be canceled. Does this mean my credit card will be refunded for the $85 battery replacement charge if it is canceled automatically?

Thanks, but I've been on the phone with AppleCare US (where I am and live) and AppleCare UK. They continue bouncing me back and forth without helping resolve the problem.
Perhaps someones knows how to further escalate the issue at Apple?

  • Ipod touch problem

Hi folks, I am new to this site and am looking for help please. I am also having problems with the January software screen which keeps showing an 'unknown error message' as soon as I say 'no thanks'. Everything was deleted on my ipod and I could not sync anything for about a week. I still have the error message, however I am now able to sync items to my ipod. The new problem is that the capacity bar at the bottom of the ipod summary page - I have almost half of my ipod taken up by 'other' (orange in colour) and I have no idea what this consists of. It happened after the error message appeared. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks.

TBH...I would just have to say that you have a defective iPod touch. You might want to go for an exchange!

  • 1st Generation iPod Touch Problems: First freezes, then no music

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else have had this problem.
My first generation iPod touch's screen stops working, but is responsive and the button and works, but since I need to slide it, I wasn't able to use it. When I plugged in my headphones, it fritzes. So I restored it to factory settings and everything is fine until I try to play music. I would click on any song, even the shuffle button, it would show that it would play, but suddenly stops and goes back to the song menu. I tried restoring a few times, but it still won't work. On top of that, when I leave it alone for a minute, it dies unexpectedly. It's been 2 and a half years since I got it. Anyone?

I have the exact same situation! My friend and I both have first generation iPod touches. My friends is 3 years old, however my iPod touch is only 1 year old because I got a new one because my last broke, still 1g. My friend was caught in the rain and got very wet once, and since then his iPod touch wifi hasn't worked. My iPod touch on the other hand has been very well looked after in a switch easy case.
My wifi used to work perfectly, until around september of last year my wifi stopped working. It searches for half a second, like it usually does when it knows there aren't anywhere networks near, and if I am really close to a router it will have 1 bar, but say unable to connect and always ask for password.
However today I had a breakthrough, even tho I haven't used my iPod in a while, I tried searching for wifi today and it worked perfectly, like brand new, I was really excited, I could even get full signal at the bus stop outside my house. 4 hours later, and it was back to square one, exactly the same symptoms as before. iPad and laptop are perfect as usual, my iPod has never been wet and I take great care of it. I don't think iOS has a big difference, as my friend is running like 1.? And I'm running 3.1.? The latest software. I've resetted many times, but no success. I'm going to call apple but please help incase they don't know.

  • Ipod Touch Problems

My Ipod Touch is running with Windows Vista and the latest Itunes. When I try to charge it with the computer USB cord the Itunes keeps coming up and synching the Ipod and then I close the Itunes and turn the Ipod power off with the slide switch on the Ipod screen after Itunes says it's o.k. to disconnect a little while later the Itunes keeps coming back on to synch the Ipod. If I ever get the Ipod charged up after I disconnect it from the computer I can't turn the Ipod on with the power switch on top of the Ipod and it keeps coming on and off by itself with the Apple logo on the screen going on and off about every minute or so until all the power of the Ipod is depleted. Thanks very much for any help.

    Start here: http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPod_touch_3.1_UserGuide.pdf
Turn off "iTunes opens when this iPod is connected" and that will solve one problem
Don't turn your iPod off, just put it in Sleep mode - once you fixed it
    1. Unplug your iPod from the computer
    2. Hold down the Sleep/Wake switch and turn the iPod off
    3. Start iTunes
    4. Hold down the Home button and plug your iPod back in to your computer. Keep hold it down until you get "an iPod in recovery mode has been detected by iTunes". Follow the on screen instructions to restore your touch.
Next time, learn how your device works before you start plugging it in, unplugging it, etc.

  • Well its another 3rd gen. 8gb ipod touch problem. Apparently they don't exist and that really ticks me off because the apple packaging clearly stated it was an 8gb 3rd gen. and now i can't update it. Apple lied and now im paying for it.I better get a new1

A year or two back i dad just used up all of my money to buy a brand new ipod touch 3rd gen. 8gb. I bought it at a local sams club and i even still have the packaging that says it was an 8gb 3rd gen. But Apple lied to me because it is only an 2nd gen. I looked it up and they don't exist. Now i can't get any games or anything because of thier false advertisement and ripping us off (as you can't update from iOS 4.2.1). This also happened to many of my friends and other Apple customers throughout the U.S. It was an unopened product from Apple. Since they tricked us i hold Apple accountable. I demand a refund and anyone else in this delemma please share your story. APPLE OWES ME A REFUND.

I see that you have the same problem as guys in the sites I found.
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/54866
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/55334
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/55180
I think most of them manage to came out either with FULL REFUND, with 75-90% DISCOUNT for iPod 4G purchase, or FREE iPod touch 4G 8GB.
I'll tell you this, it's not Apple who lied to you, it's the misled DEALERS. I've been collecting evidences and it seems from the beginning (the time of press release) until the release of iPod 4G, Apple never stated that they intended to release iPod touch 3G in 8GB.
See this image of Apple online store back in early 2010 :
The 8GB model were only UPDATED with iOS 3 however the true NEW iPod touch at that time (Apple hadn't used the terms Generation yet) was available in larger capacity. The iPod touch 8GB wasn't RENEWED but rather RE-RELEASED with lower price as previous 8GB iPod touch were more expensive. If you still not convinced enough to believe it, well search the youtube and watch Phil Schiller's presentation in 09/2009. He shown 8GB model (he didn't say new) would only experience updated price of $199 but later on, he pushed the 8GB aside and explained the NEW larger capacity models would be granted double capacity and improved performance
Hence, I'm truthfully sorry to say that the one whom to be wronged isn't Apple but dealers themselves for false advertising. I suggest you to bring up your complain to the dealer with valid evidences because if you don't, I'm afradi you might lose your chance due to the time being.

  • Major iPod Touch problem

Well, yesterday i tried to update my iPod touch firmware from 2.0 to 2.2. Ok, giving me the permission denied error that everyone else is getting.
So i waited till today, tried again, still no dice, ok, i'll just keep waiting. Then i tried to copy a video (in the correct format) from my desktop to my iPod. It transfers INCREDIBLY slowly, like it's on a USB 1.1 connection when it's actually on 2.0. Then suddenly, halfway through, it gives me an error that my iPod is unavailable to sync, it's not recognised etc. Now trying to copy anything over (music, videos, pictures) just completely fails, as in if dragging and dropping from my library onto my iPod, iTunes gives me the dissallowed cursor when i mouse over my ipod.
So then i tried restoring; problem is, it tries to restore and update at the same time, and as the update isn't working, it won't restore.
Just to let you know, I've tried rebooting my PC (i'm on XP pro by the way) and my iPod and i've tried switching USB ports also. Still not working. Any help would be great.
    Thanks.

ok, i have the same problem as you, dealing with trying to update ipod touch software on itunes. and it said i didn't have permission. this sounds like a difficult issue. have you tried contacting the apple store yet and talking to a tech? i had a similar problem before on my mac and i called the store and they were incredibly helpful.

  • What is Apple's position on iOS4 ipod Touch problems?

Considering all the posts regarding battery drains, sync problems, crashes, and slow operation since the iOS4 release for the ipod Touch 3g it is time for Apple to provide an updated iOS4 and/or fix the problems.
Has anyone seen or heard of any information from Apple?

Any official information from Apple will almost certainly come in the form of a KnowledgeBase article, which would probably be referenced from the iPod touch support page, or in the form of an actual OS update.

  • IPod touch problems grey pixels and stuck sleep/wake button

I got my iPod touch 2g in January of this year and I noticed that my sleep wake button was inside the iPod not sticking out like it is suppose to and I also saw that I have about 15 rows of greyed out pixels. I'm wondering if my warranty can fix both of these problems for free or do I need to pay money. I have tried the stuck pixel fix but nothing happened.

Did you try to restore in iTunes?

  • Synching iPhoto & iPod Touch Problems?

I have always synched my macbook iPhoto library with my iPod Touch and until recently this has always worked well. The last 2 times I have tried to do it though, the synch has only copied 4 photos from the last 2 new events uploaded into iPhoto. I have checked the photos and they are all jpeg formats. I cant think of anything else to do. I am using iPhoto 11, 9.3
Has anyone else experienced this problem? If you have, how did you resolve it.
    Thanks
    Heather

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache.
Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.
