Weird Issue moving clips to timeline

Recently I've encountered a problem with Premiere Pro CS6 that I can't seem to fix nor find a solution for online.
I import a picture to my project and in the preview screen everything looks fine.  However, when I move it to my timeline, it has become zoomed way in and becomes pixelated.  This came out of nowhere and I can't seem to figure out what happened.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

  • Weird problem moving clips to timeline!

I'm using Premiere Pro CS6.0.3 in Win 7 64bit. Almost every time I start a new project, after I've imported my clips to the Project window, as soon as I move the first single clip to the timeline, ALL the clips jump to the timeline in random order, as if they were one big single clip!! Weird! If I Undo it, and then try again to move a single clip to the timeline, then it works okay...usually. Sometimes not, and the only way to correct it is to dump the clips and re-import them, or restart Premiere.
I figure this must be something I've overlooked in one of the setups, but I can't for the life of me figure out what. If I can get a single clip onto the timeline, then the rest of the session works just fine. Also, this doesn't seem to effect saved projects. Just happens when starting a brand new project.   Any ideas? Thanks!

When they get imported into a Bin they are all "selected" (Highlighted) in case one wants to do some other group action with them (eg Modify).
CTRL- A will deselect them (ie unhighlight them) allowing one to use them individually.
Clicking off them = click somewhere else apart from the Highlighted files.
    Got it?

  • Moving clips in timeline

This is probably really simple but I can't figure it out.
I have a clip on V1 and want to move it up to V2. I don;t want to slip the clip. Shift dragging it doesn't constrain it. How can I do it please?

NOt locked or turned off. The clip moves up there it just also slips in time. Perhaps this is a trash preferences thing then?

  • Issue with Clipping Mask when scrubbing timeline

Has anyone encountered an issue with editing a clipping mask or repositioning it on the timeline only to see that nothing moves on the timeline when scrubbing the playhead?
This has occurred multiple times on different Edge Animate projects.
So far this has happened on SVGs, pngs, basic shapes, etc.
I posted a video in my adobe cc folder to view as a reference.
    I'm using OS X 10.10.3 and Edge Animate 2014.1.1

I right click on the clip in Timeline, choose Effects Mask > Apply
The rectangular mask appears on the screen, I drag one corner in to make it smaller - what the exact dimensions are I know not. The logo I need covered happens to be almost at the exact center of the screen.
I choose the EDIT Tab > Brightness/Contrast > Set the levels so the mask is perfectly white (thus, covering up the logo) > Apply > Done
The preview works. When I output as AVI, MOV, MPG, MP4, etc., the mask that I placed over the logo has now moved either above where I originally placed it or above and to the left.
I have no idea how to answer the second part of your question.

need some help.  I'm moving clips to the timeline and they arrive zoomed in.  I don't want this effect.  How can I stop it?

To expand a little on John's questions and link, every clip and every sequence has its own frame dimensions (and pixel aspect ratio & frame rate). By default, Premiere preserves the dimensions (or "resolution") of a clip when you add it to a sequence. That means that if a clip's resolution is greater than that of the sequence, it will appear to be zoomed in on the frame. Conversely, if the clip is lower res than the sequence, it will appear shrunk, with black borders.
If all of your content is the same resolution (which is the ideal case), then you should use a sequence that matches. The easiest way to do so is the "New Item" method that John refers to--dragging a clip to the Project Panel's New Item button--or, in later releases of PPro CC, dragging it into an empty Timeline panel. If you're working with content of mixed resolution, then you have to pick your poison and scale smaller clips up or larger clips down. The latter option is generally preferred because the former--scaling clips up--often results in unacceptable pixelation.

  • IMovie audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !

iMovie 11  audio issues. Fine in timeline, but when rendering to iTunes or Media Browser, audio from certain portions of movie files are heard in places where it shouldn't be !
I have created a project where I have a montage of photos and video clips edited together with music under. Some audio portions of the video files are being muted in some areas and those portions are being heard in another part of the project. This is not for all video clips only certain ones.
The project plays fine in the timeline, but when I render the project thru iTunes or Media Browser, this is when the project goes corrupt.
I tried detaching the Audio from the video clips and this somewhat worked, but the original problem still exists with certain audio still being heard where it's not supposed to be.

    I have a fix - or rather, a workaround.
WARNING: It is lengthy, but still far better than starting a new project from scratch.
I had this same issue and none of my transitions/clips were at custom speeds, nor did I have anything else weird going on. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do within iMovie to fix this, at least there wasn't for me. iMovie is BY FAR the buggiest software I have ever used and if you haven't already spent hours slaving away on a project, you are so much better off using just about anything else to edit your video.
...But let's assume you have already spent many hours working on your project and you don't want to start all over. Well then, you have at least one option.
It's a pain in the neck, but it's infinitely better than restarting your project from scratch.
    This will require:
A software called Soundflower (which is free) and some kind of audio editing software (I use Logic, but really any should work).
1.) You're going to need to export your video with the messed up audio. Typically if you're audio is messing up, you're video is at least usually working just fine (at least it always does for me).
2.) You're going to need to open that video in your audio software and import only the audio. If your software doesn't give you this option, then you're going to need to record the audio from your video using the audio software and Soundflower. You can find tutorials on how to do this, but it's honestly pretty straightforward once you start playing around with you Mac's audio I/O settings. Remember to have your computer's volume all the way up when doing this.
3.) Watch/listen to your video and make notes of where the audio errors occur. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND writing down times too,  as they will be extremely helpful later.
4.) Now were going to rip some working audio from the iMovie project itself. Go back into your iMovie project and only play back audio while in the edit window for this step. Do NOT play your project back in full screen.
This part is key: if you try to play back your project from the beginning the audio will usually still mess up. So, what you're gonna have to do is go back on your edit window timeline right before these errors occur and play that specific clip back while recording this working audio with Soundflower and your audio software. Essentially we're only recording the parts of the audio where these errors occur, so try to do this in order if you can. Try to leave several seconds of audio in before the error - that way we can use it as reference when we construct our new audio track.
5.) Now in your audio software you should have your original error-filled audio track and the new clips that we just captured. This part can be painstaking if you're not familiar with audio editing softwares, but as you'll learn, it's really not that hard.
You're going to look at your original audio track and compare it to your new working audio clips. You should be able to notice where those new clips are supposed to go by looking at the identical (or close to identical) waveform shapes in your original audio track. The two should correspond with one another. If you don't understand what I mean right now, you will when you start playing around with the audio. This is why marking times is very important.
Take your new clips and split them up if you haven't already, that way you can drag them around and edit them separately from one another. Essentially your going to line these new clips up with original and then replace the original parts with new ones.
We need to get this as precise as possible, so start off by getting them as close as you can with your naked eye, and then use a zoom tool to zoom in as much as possible so that you can get them lined up PERFECTLY, or at least extremely close. In some softwares you can just drag these new clips on top of the old track, but most of the time you will need to actually cut out the old piece and replace it with the new one. In doing this, zoom in and make sure that you are NOT cutting out a bigger space than your new clip will fill - otherwise you will have small gaps in your audio.
VERY IMPORTANT: Also make sure that this new audio track starts at the EXACT SAME time as your original - otherwise your new audio will be out of sync.
I know this part can really suck if you're not used to audio editing, but at this point, there is little other choice.
6.) Once you are done with this, export your newly pieced together audio track.
7.) Now open iMovie and create a NEW project. Re-import the video that you exported earlier that has the messed up audio. This might take a while, so just be patient.
8.) Then right click the clip and select "Detach Audio". This will do just that - allowing you to edit the audio separately from the video. Now delete this audio.
9.) Now, import the new, perfect audio track that we just made and make sure that it starts at the start of the project. Make sure it's in sync and that everything works.
Now just export your new video with the working audio and you should be done. Since we have given iMovie the audio with no editing actually being done in iMovie, it does not have to generate its own audio now and you should have absolutely no errors now - unless there is some that you forgot to take out earlier.
    YOU'RE FINALLY DONE!!!
I know this entire process *****, but if you're that far into your project, there is little else that you can do. Now you've learned your lesson:
    DON'T USE IMOVIE EVER AGAIN.
    I hope this helped!

  • Why does pprocs6 crash when i move clips in timeline??? [ error: ... linkcontainer.cpp-245 ]

I am currently editing a short film which is only about 25-30mins long with nothing out of the ordinary in the timeline. There are a couple of nested sequences but most of it is .MTS (AVCHD from Sony NEX VG20) and .WAV files for audio (inc some 5.1 audio from camera).
Some of the channels are locked so they dont move but other than that nothing strange or particualry intensive is being done. Some of the clips are 25fps and some are 60fps but this shouldnt be a proplem for PProCS6!
The sequence settings are AVCHD 720, 24fps,
I am running a core2duo 2.16cpu/8gbram/ creative cloud OS and program on C: drive, footage on esata G: drive and scratch drive O: drive is another usb 2.0 drive.
As soon as I move the clips in the timeline as a group I get this error come up (see screengrabs below) "... linkcontainer.cpp-245"
    please help
None of my searches have given me an answer, one person even said "reinstall software" [nonesense!!!]
I am just days away from submitting my short film for my final major project at Uni and the film is worth 50% of my module... basically I could fail if film isnt handed in!

The CPU hasnt been too much of an issue before, I shot a 1hr30min documentary last year at it only lagged at the final export stage.
In saying that it isnt the best, thank God my upgrade is coming soon!
What I mean by "moving the clips in a group is..."
using the tool (right facing arrow and shift - sorry I cant remember the tool's name) and selecting every clip to the right of it, for the purposes of moving to an earlier point in the timeline to close a gap, moving clips individually is out of the question and there are too many and loads are specifically sync'd and have intricate sequencing and timings.
I havent tried 'grouping' the clips but I shouldnt need to for a simple move like this.
All I need to do is close a few gaps in the timeline.
    thanks

  • IMovie '11 on 10.6.8 greys out contents of library, so I cannot drag and drop clips to timeline.

This has happened on multiple occasions. I don't know why Apple can't figure out how to create a reliable program. I have been using iMovie for several months now, updated to '11 in April, on OSX 10.6.8, and usually it works fine, but occasionally, out of the blue, all of the clips in my library will be greyed out. I cannot edit them in timeline unless I go to each clip individually and open up the separate editing window, I cannot drag and drop the clips to timeline, I have to manually copy and paste, and I cannot see any of the clips unless I roll over them with my mouse. My free trial of Final Cut Pro just expired and I have a couple of videos that are almost finished and this is extremely frustrating. I have seen others with similar experiences and I'm wondering if there is anything at all I can do about it. Thank you.
P.S. I did try restarting the program about 5 times and restarted my computer. Nothing gives.

Of course, I might have found a fix right after posting this. In case someone else comes along with the same issue...
I closed my MBP cover, and re-opened (this solved a menu bar issue I was also having). I re-opened iMovie, and deleted the project I had started that couldn't be continued. I started a new project, and things seemed to work just fine. So I'm not sure what it was that caused the problem, but so far it seems to be working now. Good luck!

  • Drag & drop audio clip from timeline to project window ?

i no longer can drag a clip from timeline to the project window & then breakout the clip to mono by selecting clip - audio options- breakout to mono - now when i drop an audio clip from timeline into the project window it does not show up anywhere in the project window - did an update get rid of this function ? it was much better than having to go back to the unedited original source & start from scratch ...

thanx for your time Jim - i understand that would be the preferred method but that was a quick fix until recently i have noticed that i can no longer do it by just grabbing the edited clip & drop it in project window so that i can modify just that portion of the original files properties - it still functions that way on a friends machine - was just kinda weird that i can't get it to work that way any more …

  • Weird issue with safari on iPad mini?

I just had a weird issue with my safari web page, it stopped responding to my scrolling. I then tried coming out of it and going bad in again a couple of times, which still did not work. It then started jiggling around all over the place (jiggling is the only word I can use to describe it), it was as if you had clicked and held the page with a mouse and then started moving the page all over the place, or even like an earthquake on the page. The tab then closed. Can anyone explain this? Thanks.

Quit Safari then reset your iPad.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Unable to play preview clip on timeline Premiere Elements 10

All of a sudden, I'm unable to preview clips, even in unfinished projects that used to work. I'm running Premiere Elements 10, Windows 8.1, Flash updated etc. These clips are activated, not rendered (red line above) but doesn't show. However, if I play the clip, I can hear the sound. Sometimes the program crashes, and I have to start all over again.
Update: Now, when I click on the clip on the timeline, preview window shows one frame, while the marker continues to "play" the clip(without showing anything but the first frame as a still picture. When hitting pause again, preview window shows a still where the clip was stopped...This happens on some of the clips on the timeline. Some are just pure black

I do have a NVIDA graphics card! And it's updated with the latest drivers...
Now, I'll have to find out how to do a roll back...I'll read the thread you suggested and hope for the best!
    Thanks for the answer!
    Additional info:
Some of the clips that wont play in the preview or full screen window, shows a still picture when setting thetimeline to it AND THE clicking on the preview window. A still shows up, but nothing happens when a hit play. Some of the clips are from my GoPro Hero3 Black, but they seem to pay fine as long as I havn't used zoom on them. On many GoPro clips I've used zoom to minimize the "fisheye" effect, and then it wont play.

Any chance you could be part of a growing crowd of Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA video card users who have run into the NVIDIA video card driver issue. For the now of this issue, the answer seems to be to roll back the driver version rather than assure that you have the latest version of it.
Please check out the following thread here where I have sought to keep track of these happenings.

Please let us know if any of that might apply to your situation.....what video card, what computer operating system?
    Thanks.

  • Some audio clips in timeline are super quiet

I've had this issue many times before, in the past I've just thrown my hands up in the air and started again, but this is starting to become a very big issue for me.
Some clips (when I play the timeline) are super quiet (maxing out around -48dB) yet when I play the same clip in the source monitor it plays properly (maxing out around -6dB). The clip has no filters, the gain is set to 0dB and volume is set to 0dB.
Below I have two clips, both shot on the same camera, same setup within minutes of each other. Both with 0dB Gain and 0dB Volume
The one on the left is barely audible, where the one on the right is ridiculously loud.
However, when I nest the clip on the left and open the nested clip, the volume is good again, however the volume of the nested clip in the original timeline is still unuseable. But if i try and nest out both clips into a new timeline, the issue persists into the new timeline.
I've deleted all the files on my scratch drive, and I still have the issue.

The clip files are way too large for me to be able to upload them. And I don't think it has anything to do with the files themselves as the same clip will behave in some timelines but not others.
I did a quick screen capture so you can see the levels etc.
I start by playing the clips in the original timeline and I get no volume I then nest them, and go into the nested clip... and suddenly I have volume (as hideous as it is, but this is just an example). So same clips same settings, different results.
BTW the two clips here are different from the previous clips. I started the previous timeline again from scratch and it worked for a while, then my clips just started randomly losing volume again.

  • Weird Issues of late?!?!

I have been having a lot of weird issues lately. A lot of programs are becoming unresponsive. It also seems that when one becomes unresponsive, others will follow. So if FCP becomes unresponsive, Safari does as well or Firefox or text edit, etc. In many cases, after I force-quit them, they will become unresponsive while re-launching, and I will end up closing everything and re-starting. Speaking of which, re-starting tends to get hung-up as well forcing me to hard reboot (hold down the power button).
Also, it seems to be struggling to play movies, where that was never an issue before.
Then, theres FCP. I am having issues where I a song used for a video will suddenly be all whacky. Towards the end it will start repeating like a skipping record, and make static noises. Replacing the song with itself clears that up. And finally, I have had a number of videos export from final cut with the audio disappearing halfway through, even though the timelines are fine; or an exported video will have 'freeze spots' where the video will just be one frame for a period of time.
Anyone have an idea what might cause these issues??
iMac 27" i7, 4GB Ram, 10.6.4, all video on external drives.

If your problem is a process that's using excess CPU time, you can explore that with the Activity Monitor utility. Launch that, set the list near the top to "All Processes", then click the "CPU" column header near the top until the highest CPU users are at the top of the list. Now user your Mac until it's sluggish, then check the Activity Monitor display to see if you can spot a culprit.

  • Moving clips vertically

Is there a modifier key to hold whilst moving clips vertically between tracks in the timeline to stop the clip moving sideways?
    Thanks
    Dean

I thought I'd tried all the keys especially the shift key as shift is the key in most other NLEs I've used. I now find it IS the key to use in FCP having only been using FCP for the last 6 years or so.
