Weird issues with file share using both SMB and AFP?

I use my Xserve with 10.4 server primarily as a file server (with a huge RAID array attached via Ultra320 SCSI). I've served files from this server over SMB ("Windows" sharing) to both PCs and Macs for a few years now with no big issues. The files are being shared in a collaborative environment with extensive user accounts and ACLs set up.
I would like to turn on AFP for these same file shares, so those accessing with a Mac can have the added benefits of AFP over SMB. However, I've heard some rumors of some complicated issues developing from the use of both AFP and SMB together on the same folders, in a mixed environment.
The rumors I've heard are things that would happen rarely but enough for it to be significant. For example, a file created over SMB and then edited over AFP would have some problems being re-edited over SMB again, due to some complicated feature that the rumor is unable to explain (something with a resource fork or file locking?). Maybe something weird that just involves the Adobe Creative Suite?
Anyway, I figured I'd throw this out there. Anyone who serves files over both protocols to a varied set of computers and applications having weird issues? Or is everything working for you? Thanks in advance.

It's coming in as cropped with no way to fix it that I can see.
Pressing space or opening in preview shows the full image but if it gets anywhere near Photoshop it comes in auto-cropped.
I'm starting to this it's a bug and will be reporting it to Adobe.

Weird issue with Handoff between rMBP 15" 2014 and iPhone 5

It was hard to make all the continuity stuff works, but currently the calls thought the Mac and the SMS works smoothly for me.
I just have one problem:
Handoff doesn't works from iPhone 5 to rMBP properly (the Dock icon) but from the rMBP to iPhone 5 works like a charm just when turning on the Bluetooth (as the way it supposed to be done).
I've logged out from iCloud (and that actually gave me more problems, Calls and SMS left to works, but now all is fixed) I've disabled iCloud to fix the BT issue but nothing changed.
By the way I'm not able to pair both devices with bluetooth, but I'm pretty sure that isn't needed.
I've detected what is the problem and a workaround:
I mainly have BT off in both devices, and if i turn on the rMBP and then the BT in both devices I get the problem described at the beginning... BUT if i restart the rMBP with the BT enabled then the problem is gone.. the app appears in the Dock from the iPhone without problems... as I don't like to being rebooting my Mac every time with the BT on when I want to have Handoff I just kill the process "blued" from the system monitor and all works nicely.
Another workaround (when I turn on the rMBP with the BT off) it's just having the BT settings opened, everything works well, if I close settings then Handoff stops working (yeah, weird).
I hope that could be fixed, they are minor bugs but keep being bugs.

I recommend taking some thread dumps during this delay and contacting support to get some advice.
You can take the thread dumps by kill -3, JRockit Mission Control, etc.

Issue with Email generation using MAPI32.OCX and Outlook 2010

Our application use MAP32 OCX to generate an email with an attachment (PDF File), but no email address. The user will select the address from their contacts.
Right now we have an issue with some Outlook 2010 clients that after about 8 emails , Outlook has an issue and hangs.
Now if we do a mailto://[email protected] before we create the 8th email, Outlook 2010 doesn't hang. Is there any setting we can set in Outlook 2010 to prevent the "address checking" when the email is generated or do I have to fill
the email address with a "bogus" address that the user must then overwrite to prevent this from happening?

Help with a PCR using both 401KL and 401KS

Hi,
Has anyone set up a supplemental savings plan that begins deductions when 401k limits hit either 401KL or 401KS? I have it setup using 401KS and it works great but unfortunately that scenario is only for one employee out of 48. I really need to be able to compare against both 401KS and 401KL to fully automate this. I'm new to PCR's so any advice would be greatly appreciated...

I'm having a weird issue with my 3Gs using WIFI, please help me!

Everything was fine before today, and suddently I can't access internet via WIFI. The weird thing is that when I turn Wi-Fi off and back on, the iPhone can access internet for like 30 secs, and it goes dark again. I have constantly strong WIFI signal and my computer works fine. I've tried to reset my network settings and everything, it just keep happening.
Please HELP!

If no change after resetting network settings on your iPhone and/or after restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup (wi-fi settings are included with your iPhone's backup and if there is a problem with the settings included with your iPhone's backup, restoring from the backup will also restore the problem), more than likely your iPhone has a hardware failure with the wireless card or with something else.

During setup of new Apple TV I am not able to progress past the screen that asks if I want to share usage info with Apple. Using both wireless and hardwire setup I've answered no - then yes - but I cannot get the system to accept an answer. Anyone else?

Aside from not being able to progress past the question of sharing info with Apple - I've also noticed that the remote does not function when I presss the "select" button - only when I press the "menu" button can I acknowledge a question or a step in the setup proccess. Help!

I got the idea to look at this from this article about bin fitting. I have been playing with the model clause and I think you would do something with the 'increment' clause, but I dont see a way to reset it to 1 at a certain point.

Overprint issue with file created in ID CS2 and exported to PDF

I created some banners in ID CS2. Sent them out to get printed. They came back today. One of them is all screwed up. Out of 6 banners which are all very similar, only one is messed up. I called today and the printer said that that one file has overprint turned on. I dont see any over print turned on in InDesign or when I open the PDF in Acrobat and turn Overprint Preview on and off, it shows no difference. They said they opened the PDF in Illustrator to do this and that it's showing overprint turned on in there... WTF? They are reprinting the banner but making us pay for shipping... any thoughts?

Never trust a printer that is opening PDF's in Illustrator. I'm always amazed when I hear of printers that do this.
With the file that stuffed up you did have overprinting turned on for the coloured text at the bottom as well. This wouldn't have caused a problem though because there is nothing underneath it.
The rest of the file is fine. Overprinting was only turned on for the black stroke around the "demonstrations" text as it should be not the inside fill.
I can tell you the file goes through my rips fine, but then again I'm not doing anything stupid like opening it in Illustrator first.

Two weird issues with my Mac Pro (locking up and failing to reboot)

I am having two problems with my Mac Pro. The first one is every time I put it to sleep and then wake it up it locks up. This problem came after I installed Leopard (in Tiger sometimes it would take longer to come out of sleep but it always came out). My other problem showed up after I installed Leopard as well, every time I go up to the apple menu and click on restart my computer dose everything normal but when it goes to the “off” state it sits there and reboots over and over and over again. I don’t ever hear the bong or see the grey start screen; I can just hear my CD-ROM drives being accessed (clicking sound I usually hear when I turn the computer on) over and over again. I have run the Apple Hardware Test and it comes back clean, I have also reset the SMC and zapped the PRAM.
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these problems and knew how to fix them.

This is exactly what my Mac Pro did before it died last Friday (9 November 2007).
Apple keeps saying Mac Pro death isn't common, but I've talked to a dozen people whose Pro died just like mine did.
Apple gave me a brand new Pro Sunday, which was nice of them, and I probably was just unlucky with the first one.
Still, it is obvious that Apple is having QC issues lately.
USB video devices will crash a Mac Pro consistently, for example. It's really disappointing because the machine is very nice otherwise.

Issue with File Download(messageDownload) on Search Page.

I created a custom OAF search page which fetches values from one table. The document in getting stored in my custom table in a BLOB colums and NOT in FND_LOBS.
The table has 3 collumns along with others:
1st is primary key (Record_Seq) ==> number data type
2nd to store actual file name (File1Name) ==> varcahar2 data type
3rd to store the actual uploaded data (File1Data) ==> BLOB data type
The reason for having the “File1Name” is so that I can display the original file name of the document that was uploaded, instead of just the “view” in the search page results .
On the File1Data BLOB and created a messageDownload for that under query results table with following details:
ID : File1Data
ItemStyle : messageDownload
FileMIME Type : pdf
Datatype : BLOB
View Instance : LacEmpExposureVO1
view Attribute : File1Name
File View Attribute : File1Data
When I click on the "File1Name" data hyperlink, it is opening only the first document corresponding to the first record in the search page results.
For example, If my search page returns 10 rows then when I click on the file1name on any row, It is open the first row file name only.
I have a primary key column(RECORD_SEQ) in the Table / EO / VO which is displayed in the search page results.
Also one weird thing is happening:
If I try to do this more than 2 times then it is opening the update page with the first record from the search page results…
I tried to print the context and it is nul the first time, But the second time then context is changing to "update". Dont know how this is happening????
Any advice is greatly appreciated as it is very crucial for me to get this resolved ASAP. I have looked at several forums and did a lot of things as advised in the forums . But nothing seems to work for me.

Issue with file to file in PI 7.3 (Splitting huge files)

Hi All,
Need your help in fixing the issue with file splitting
We are doing some sample scenarios(file to file) on PI 7.3 server.
We are trying to split a 10MB file by using the 'Advanced Mode' option in the sender file adapter. We gave max split file size as 2MB. The file got split into 5 chunks and was successfully sent to receiver file adapter. In receiver adapter we are able to see that. But in the target folder only 1 file was seen with size 2MB. All other chunks were missing. We need to have the whole data sent from source to target.
How to fix this issue? please provide your inputs.

PI 7.3 has capable of processing larger size files.
Questions:
Have you picked EOIO quality of service? Hope you dont do mapping or content conversion for this file?

Having a weird issue with my assign after java embedding

I'm having a weird issue with my assign activity, i am using a Java Embedding wherin i access a variable and assign it some data, later in next step when i try to assign some other data to this same variable in assign activity i get a Error message as below.

Weird issue with safari on iPad mini?

I just had a weird issue with my safari web page, it stopped responding to my scrolling. I then tried coming out of it and going bad in again a couple of times, which still did not work. It then started jiggling around all over the place (jiggling is the only word I can use to describe it), it was as if you had clicked and held the page with a mouse and then started moving the page all over the place, or even like an earthquake on the page. The tab then closed. Can anyone explain this? Thanks.

Quit Safari then reset your iPad.
Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Open VDW files stored on file share using Visio Web Access

Is it possiblwe to view VDW files that are stored in a file share using Visio Web Access in SharePoint?
If so, how?
Opening up a Visio Web Drawing stored in a SharePoint document library is straight forwards however I want to view a visio web drawing stored in a file system using the web access service.

I have Parallels installed with Windows 7. Can I use both Bootcamp and Parallels on the same machine depending on whether I just want to work in Windows all day (Bootcamp) or alternate during the same session (Parallels)?

You can, yes. But there is a complication: once you activate windows it will only be activated for one of the two methods you use. So, let's say you install into boot camp and activate windows. You can then install Parallels and it will find your boot camp installation, but when running in Parallels, Windows will report that it is not activated. Or, you can activate it in Parallels and when running in Boot Camp Windows will report that it is not activated. The reason for this is because Windows thinks it is running on different computers depending on how you boot it. This may not be an issue for you if you run Windows a lot one way and just occasionally the other way, so be sure to activate Windows in whichever method you use more often. Hope this helps!
