Weird iTunes 10.6.3 missing album artwork issue

I upgraded to iTunes 10.6.3 yesterday, and I had to restart my Mac for an unrelated issue. This afternoon, I noticed something really weird- all my "Documentary" movies that I purchased through iTunes Store have lost their artwork previews; meaning, if I click on "Movies" in the Library menu at left, then select the "Documentary" genre, and view the movies under "Grid" mode, none of the movies have any artwork along the left side next to the title. It has ONLY affected the "Documentary" movies, but none of my other genres. In fact, I created a separate sub-category for "Disney Documentaries", and those movies are missing the artwork in "Grid" view as well. If I view all Movies in "List" mode, all the movies have artwork EXCEPT the Documentaries.  Interestingly enough- if I select a Documentary movie and type "Cmd+I", then select the "Artwork" tab in the "Information" window. the artwork is still there, it just doesn't show in the "List" or "Grid" view.  How can I fix this? I am currently rebuilding the Spotlight Index, I've repaired permissions, and even done a verify/repair with Disk Utility, but nothing has worked so far. I've already checked the "Automatically Download Missing Album Artwork" under Preferences, but that didn't solve the problem either. The movies all play fine otherwise, but this little glitch is frustrating me. Please help!

I have this issue.  Album artwork was totally fine before.  After this update, it is all messed up and even got messed up when transferred to my iphone.
iTunes doesn't have the artwork anymore, but then iPhone has it but shows wrong artwork with wrong albums.
Please fix!

  • ITunes 7.0.2 get Album Artwork issue

    Hello,
I use iTunes 7.0.2. I am putting all my cd's onto my new MBP and for some reason iTunes stopped finding Album Artwork for Albums it already found in iTunes 6 and 7.0.1 when I use the "get Album Artwork" function in "advanced".
I already looked at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304339 and tried it with this option enabled and disabled but none of it helped.
I also looked through 10 pages of the forum already with the search but did not find any help for my problem. so I hope you can help me.
    Thanks,
    Sebastian

I've just installed 7.0.2 and have the exact same issue. I just imported several CD's and iTunes refuses to find the album art. I've confirmed the ablums exist in the iTunes Store.

I am having to recreate my itunes library and do not understand why prior album artwork appeared in my older library but not the new library?  Is there some way to scan itunes for missing album artwork?

do you have a strongly recommended default "managed" library (the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library is in its checked state) or a referenced library - you have unchecked that option?
It sounds like you have a referenced library and are now experiancing one of the very siginificant drawbacks of a referenced library and one of the many reasons they are strongly not recommended
Also note that iPhoto '11 may use alises in the originals folder as part of the upgrade
It is important that we understand exactly what you have and what is not sorking - what error messages you are getting
You must NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure of content of the iPhoto library - there are no user servicable parts in it  --  and you can not rebuild yoru librtary - only iPhoto ir iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  can rebuild a library unless you are a SQL programmer and understand the structure that iPhoto uses

  • Why is iTunes not showing mt MP3 album artwork?

I noticed after the latest iTunes update that most of the artwork I manually added in the last year to songs has gone missing. About a year ago I began adding new songs using the MP3 encoder. Previous songs were all loaded as AAC files. The AAC files all are fine. The artwork image still shows on the MP3 file icon in windows explorer so I assume it is still embedded in the file.
Deleting and re-adding the file back into iTunes doesn't help.
The Comments info box for the problem files also now includes a weird string of code that wasn't there before.
    00000000 00000210 00000ACC 000000000075C224 00000000 00355D39 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000
Finally, I noticed the iTunes folder now has an Album Artwork folder in it and It contains two folders Local and Download in it. I don't remember these from prior versions of iTunes. I could be wrong?
My guess is iTunes changed the way it keeps track of artwork in files and re-organized itself from older versions, but had a problem with MP3 files. It then put a notation in comments and stopped showing the embedded artwork.
Does anyone know what's going on here.

I've always assumed those silly strings were recording the results of the gapless playback analysis but whatever they're for it would be better if they were stored in a spare field.
Windows Media Player/Windows Explorer may be less fussy on embedded artwork formats than iTunes or the media file might actually be missing the art but the Windows Explorer cache (Thumbs.db) still shows it. You say removing-reimporting doesn't help but I assume you can still paste new artwork in and have it remembered. If so you might want to use the following tool to at least take some of the effort out of searching out which tracks you need to repair.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts13.php for Macs. Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant jpeg images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I or Command-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
I say 320x320 because I believe (from using TouchCopy) that it's the size used in the iPod cache so if you're going to crop or resize you might as well work to that size. Otherwise 200x200 is probably good enough.

  • ITunes 7 Errors/Glitches and Album Artwork Not Displaying on iPod

Looks like a lot of people are having problems with the new iTunes 7. After downloading iTunes7 and the new ipod updater, and having iTunes go and get the album artwork I was missing, some of the album artwork that displayed in iTunes would not display on my iPod (Gen 5). Very weird. I then tried to follow the suggestions on this board to deselect the "display album art on ipod" (in the Music tab of iPod preferences) so that I could then reselect and resynch (which supposed to fix the problem). It was very difficult to achieve this, as iTunes repeatedly had problems recognizing my ipod (even though it was sitting there in the source list). Managed to somehow get it to work, only to discover that while some missing album artwork had been added to ipod and properly displayed, others that had been there before were now gone (but were fine in iTunes)!!! And trying to repeat the deselect/reselect steps only resulted in more error messages ("The Settings were not saved for the iPod ___ because it could not be found." and "iPod update failed. disconnect and reconnect, then try again.")
I happen to have Apple Care for my iPod. Was on phone for ONE HOUR with rep who, while friendly, had no idea what was going on.
Okay Apple, I hope you're reading this, PLEASE FIX THE BUGS. I thought I escaped the problems of buggy software releases when I switched from Microsoft to Apple.
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.7) 2 GHz Intel Core Duo, 512 MB DDR2 SDRAM
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   2 GHz Intel Core Duo, 512 MB DDR2 SDRAM

    UPDATE on previous posting:
Okay, with help of previously mentioned Apple rep, I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 7 AND restored my iPod G5. After resynching my 5000+ songs, ALL the album artwork not displaying per previous posting is now displaying. HOWEVER (and Apple employees please take note here), when I tried to change the iPod settings AT ALL (e.g., deselect Synch Movies, TV Shows, Games, etc.) and then select APPLY, same problem!! So it appears this is where the problem lies. Somehow making any changes to these options and then hitting Apply causes the error ("...iPod could not be found" etc.) My workaround (since I am not intending to use iPod for movies or TV shows or games) is to change the Main Menu listings in Settings so I don't have to see them.
APPLE: PLEASE STUDY AND FIX! Thank you....

  • Missing album artwork after iOS5 upgrade!!

After I upgraded my iPhone, everything went smoothly, all my apps where there, text messages, emails etc. Even all my music was there but I noticed that random album artworks were missing. I connected it iTunes and clicked "sync" and it showed at the top that it was syncing a numerous amount of album artworks to my phone, so I thought it fixed the problem but I check my phone and it didn't. The weird thing is that all the album artworks show in my iTunes library and playlists but not on my phone!! I tried restarting my phone and manually clicking "get album artwork" in iTunes, nothing has worked. Furthermore, these artworks aren't custom or added by me, I purchased all on iTunes, so I know that isn't the problem. I really don't want to resort to restoring my phone due to having to reoragnize everything on it, but if I have to, I will. PLEASE HELP ME!! Thanks.

If the artwork is OK on your computer you may be able to solve your problem by removing all your music and then resync it back to your iPad.

  • How do I fill in missing album artwork?

How do I fill in missing album artwork for my music library?

A smart playlist with the rule Has artwork is false will help you focus on the tracks that need artwork.
Option-(or right)-click > Get Album Artwork should get artwork from the store if the album can be recognised. Otherwise Google is your friend, search for the relevant album, copy the image & paste it in to iTunes.
Note sure if affects Mac users but there is a copy/paste bug with the current build (10.4.0.80) which can result in a blank image being pasted. Saving the image locally to your computer, and then dragging in the saved image will work around that.

  • Itunes will not accept custom album artwork

Everytime I try to add custom artwork for a song Itunes can not find the album artwork for it never accepts the image that I use in the artwork section
    Any tips guys?

    Yes, iTunes 7 on WinXP.
I have recently answered my own question as follows:
The dialog box in question includes OK and CANCEL buttons. Unfortunately, it contains no indication of what these buttons do. Now, as a matter of principle, I do not click an OK button unless I think I know what it'l do. So, on this dialog box I always clicked CANCEL.
Well, one day I accidentally clicked OK. Viola! The dialog box went away and never came back!
Now, if you already have an iTunes U account and/or have "automatically download missing album artwork" checked in Edit / Preferences / General, this dialog box apparently won't appear anyway. Only luddites like me (who refuse to give Apple my credit card number until I find something I want to buy) who have a problem.
I'm not sure how much of a problem this will be for our faculty and students, but I guess we'll find out....
    Cheers!

  • Updated to latest I-Tunes. Since then whenever I import a new cd to the library it won't get album artwork. How do I get the artwork. My I-Tunes is set to automatically download missing album artwork but it doesn't work.

Updated to latest I-Tunes. Since then whenever I import a new cd to the library it does not get the album artwork. Automatically download missing album artwork is enabled in Preferences but the art work still does not appear in my library?

I'm having the same problem as the OP, I can't find that file "profiles.ini"
can't re-install firefox, deleted all files related to Mozilla and Firefox, still locked out by missing Firefox profile
I posted on my own problem recently w/ no response (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/search?a=1&asked_by=GPStyne&w=2),
so far all posts on this support page have been confusing and I've been unable to find any of the things they spoke of trying to change it.
at this point I'm begrudgingly running Safari hoping someone can help me fix this, can't believe i can't just delete all and reinstall like a normal program/app

  • Bazaar Album Artwork Issue

So I have a very strange album artwork issue with my iPhone 4. I've verified that the artwork is correct for the songs this is occurring with (each individual song, not the albums).
When I play certain songs (only certain ones) I get a mosaic of incorrect album artwork.
    http://gallery.me.com/jsagurton#100012/Album%20Artwork&bgcolor=black
I've again verified that in iTunes the album artwork is correct, and even copied the correct album artwork file to my desktop and then changed the artwork for this particular song to the correct artwork and resynced the device, and the issue still happens.
The issue also happens in coverflow, if the song I'm playing has the weird album artwork. Once I scroll to another album though, the artwork goes back to the correct artwork in coverflow. Going back to the standard view brings back the incorrect artwork however.
What's even more bazaar about this, is the mosaic isn't always consistent. A bunch of songs do this, but have different album covers making up the mosaic, and I have nothing in iTunes with a mosaic of artwork like this.

I have the same problem and posted a request for help but no-one has replied with an answer. It annoys me greatly that APPLE will not assist and in fact want to charge me $29 to even look at the problem, when it is their buggy software that is at fault.
Looks like we are destined to be screwed by APPLE over this.

  • ITunes 11 (11.1.4) Update Missing Album Artwork

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5). I have recently updated to 11.1.4 and now I am left with much of my album artwork missing...........sort of. In the picture below you can see the artwork is in the mini window but not on the album cover. Simple enough, find it how I found it in the first place, right click and get album artwork, right? Wrong. Not one out of a few hundred can be found. Any ideas?

That means one or more tracks in the album have the artwork, but the track referenced doesn't.
Simplest solution is to select one track that DOES have it. You can do this by getting info for the first track, selecting the Artwork tab and clicking "Next" at the bottom of the info pane until you see the album cover.
Click the album cover and press Cmd+C to copy it.
Then select the entire album and click the Artwork box. Press Cmd+V to past the artwork into ALL files
That's the long way, but... it "hard embeds" the artwork, which I prefer to the iTunes store artwork application which only links to it.

  • Missing album artwork / iTunes 12 not correctly synced to iPhone

    Hi all.
Earlier, I simply wanted to add a couple of albums to my iPhone 5S (running iOS 8.1.3) that I purchased on CD.
After being unable to add the songs due to the commonly occurring 'ghosting' issue, I checked on my iPhone to see if they had appeared in the Music app. They didn't.
Instead, most of my album artwork was removed, seemingly at random. First thing I tried was deleting and manually adding a few of the affected songs. No luck with that. Secondly, I restored the iPhone from a backup. Again, nothing. I again tried to delete and re-add the tracks, which still didn't work.
Frustrated, I decided I'd just delete all the music through the usage menu on the phone and manually re-add it all. Here's where the main problem occurs: iTunes still lists 8gb and 900+ songs still being on the iPhone despite there being none. I figured this must be part of the issue, the iTunes troubleshoot menu lists everything as being fine, so I decided to update iTunes. Yet again, no luck.
I'm hesitant to delete the "music" on the phone through iTunes as I assume it should detect the music being removed, and I feel it would only cause further problems.
Essentially, after attempting to add 2 albums I'd recently bought and ripped off of a CD (though iTunes), it would not add to the phone and instead is only listed through iTunes with the light grey writing. This randomly broke most album art on the phone, and after restoring the phone/updating iTunes didn't work, I deleted all music off the phone. iTunes still lists all the music as being on there.
Running the latest version of iTunes on Windows 7.

Generally if syncing doesn't work as expected take the following steps:
    Backup device.
    Restore as a new device.
    Restore the backup made earlier.
This assumes all content on the device is in your library. If that isn't the case see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • ITunes Missing Album Artwork Problem

For all the albums that dont have album artwork, the artwork display is messed up, its blue-ish and has distorted parts of other albums in my library, instead of the normal gray, is there any way to fix this?

I have this same problem. I think it is a rendering issue because the problem disappears when I open fullscreen view for album artwork or use the visualizer.

  • ITunes 7- Can't add album artwork

Lotta dsicussion about this topic, but I haven't seen my particular problem come up. When I try to manually add album artwork nothing happens. I've seen other people say they couldn't get it to work when they just dragged the artwork, but I can't get it to work when I crt+click and get info either. When I get info and paste the artwork into the box, the image shows up, but when I click okay, nothin happens. I make sure the checkbox beside the artwork is checked before I hit Okay.
Apple's automatic get album artwork worked pretty well, but only found about 80% of my albums. Pretty good considering the weird crap I listen to, but I'm pretty anal, and if 80% is gonna have artwork I want the rest to also.
Would the problem be that my library is on an external HD?
Is the problem that my computer (G3 ibook, 640MB SDRAM, OSX 10.4.7) is getting on in years? I can't think of any other ways to tell it to get the artwork, any help would be much appreciated!!

For files that won't let you change their artwork, there are two primary things you can check.
Firstly, make sure that the file is writable. If it is on a volume where permissions are managed, make sure you can write to both the file and the folder it is contained in. Select the file in iTunes, command-R, then use Get Info in the Finder to set the file/folder write access if necessary.
Next make sure the Creator and Type of the file isn't set to an iTunes unfriendly type. I know this was an issue in previous versions of iTunes. For example, for an mp3 file Creator=hook Type=MPG3. I know this sounds like stupid advice, setting resource fork information when Apple is telling us to stay away from using resource forks in OS X. iTunes apparently hasn't heard the news.
Perhaps adding album artwork to a file on an external volume is acting like the funny behavior of adding artwork to files on iPods. You apparently can't do it directly, but instead have to stage the artwork adding action on the volume which contains your iTunes Music folder, place the files in a temporary LIBRARY based playlist in iTunes, then drag copy the files from this playlist into the target iPod DEVICES playlist.
It is no longer clear to me what actions constitute an embed artwork action (place associated artwork inside the ID3 tag area of the file itself) versus an attach artwork action (place associated artwork in a separate artwork folder). This is extremely confusing stuff for an application that begins with a lower case i.

  • Missing Album Artworks in Album view in Music iOS

Apple updated Music App in iOS 6.
New interface Design but a new bug appear some album artworks are missing when we go in the Album list view.
But when you select an album, the artworks appear well and also appear in Cover Flow.
The album artworks are missing in Album list view only.
The problem seems to come from the option : Convert higher bite rate songs to xxx kbps AAC in iTunes
I just tried with the bit rate 192 kbps : some album artworks are missing in the Album view list
So if you want, you can test with the other bit rate and post if you have the some problem.
I uncheked the option Convert higher bite rate songs to xxx kbps AAC in iTunes, I resent my music to my iOS device.
Now all album artworks appear well in the Album list view.
In hoping this can help anyone.

    Hey,
You should definitely submit this bug as feedback to the iTunes team.
