Weird iTunes iPod display problem

iPod Touch G5, IOS 8.02
iMac desktop OS 10.9.5
This began when my WiFi sync stopped working.  As far as I can recall, it was coincident with loading IOS-8.  For what it's worth, my WiFi sync with my original iPad (IOS-5.1.1) has been flawless.
I tried a reboot but it didn't help so I did a Restore.  That solved the problem and, as far as I can determine, the iPod is working properly in all respects.  However, it created a problem with iTunes...
After the Restore, the app displays on the iTunes screens show perhaps a third or a half of my apps grayed out.  See screen shot below.  You'll notice that the issue affects both Apple apps and non-Apple apps.  This did NOT happen before the Restore.  All apps look properly and work properly on the iPad (at least the half dozen that I tried).
Note that this problem does NOT appear with the 5.1.1 iPad.
I rebooted the iPod several times and nothing changed.  I tried a sync several times and nothing changed.  I did another Restore and it appeared to solve the problem - all apps displayed properly on iTunes.  Unfortunately, when I shut down iTunes and opened it up again the problem returned.  This happens with both with a WiFi connection and a cable connection.
I tried a third Restore (yes, I'm a glutton for punishment).  Same result.  Problem temporarily resolved but returned after iTunes shut down and re-open.
I trashed the Preferences plist file and allowed iTunes to create a new one.  No change.  I repaired Permissions.  No change.
I tried to trash the iTunes application so that I could reload a brandy new version but a message appeared stating iTunes can not be modified or deleted because it’s required by the IOS.
Any clues?

I've just looked on the iTunes Store and there is now only episode 118 of "The Week In Media", so presumably the Podcast's producers have removed the faulty file.
It's the Podcast's producer who provides the Podcast as a file - complete with its faults. The faulty file will be replaced, by the producer, when they realise there is a problem. It would be their (the producer's) responsibility to remove the faulty file. And therein lies the problem. If they do not remove the faulty file, iTunes and your iPod have to cope as best as they can with what appears to be two copies of the same file, with the same name!
Imagine twin people, both with the same name! No wonder the iPod plays both!
The resolution lies with the Podcast's producers. As with all Podcasts, they are completely independent of iTunes and Apple. All iTunes does is look for new episodes of the programmes you tell it to look for and then go and fetch them from where ever the producer stores them. They are not in the iTunes Store.
Write to the producer of the podcast to let them know of your experience. Of course, they may not care!
Actually, having proofread my reply, it occurs to me that what may be happening is that your iTunes is downloading the faulty file as soon as it's available, and then downloading the second, correct version when that becomes available, because it simply sees a new Podcast, not a replacement. The answer still lies with the producer. Perhaps they do not realise what is happening. Once again, write to them and let them know. Quote me if you wish.
I personally think it's unlikely that Apple will devote resources to fix someone else's errors. I wouldn't if it was my business.

  • ITunes + iPod sync problems

so, I plugged in my iPod last night for the first time since updating to 7.7 - a friend had already warned me there might be something wrong with the syncing, so I was a little bit apprehensive about it anyway.
so, it found my iPod and started the sync - music was still playing so I didn't think about it. when I checked the progress iTunes had frozen completely (the spinning beach ball of death turned up too). I forced a quit of iTunes then ejected my iPod and guess what? anything that was on the iPod was wiped. (I'm not too bothered) then I restarted and tried to plug my iPod in again, hoping that I might be able sync again - this time I waited. iTunes then displayed an error stating that it could not recognise the contents of my iPod and did I want to restore it. I felt I had no choice so I started that process. it's been over 5 minutes since the little 'Restoring iPod' status bar popped up and it's done nothing. I can't click around it whilst in iTunes either.
I guess my question is - are Apple going to fix this bug with 7.7?
in the meantime, any suggestions on how I can just get my tracks back onto my iPod?

    arteest103,
First, the .itl library can cause the same issue on a Windows-based PC.
Second, often third party applications that add themselves to the iTunes source list, or offer to assist with managing your library may modify the .itl file. In at least some of the posts where somebody is experiencing an issue, programs that do so have been mentioned. Apple doesn't control what you install on your computer.
Third, data can become corrupted over time. That is why backing up is always recommended.
Rebuilding the .itl file, if that is what is causing your issue will resolve the issue.
Do you ever find yourself reorganizing books, sports cards, moving furniture, reorganizing recipes, etc? Essentially the .itl file is a database or organization table that keeps track of what is in the iTunes Library. Rebuilding it is like reorganizing/cleaning it up. The steps to do so are in this article:

    Hope this helps,

  • ITunes/iPod Nano Problem?

I recently purchased a refurbished iPod Nano 4th generation from GameStop. When I went to sync the iPod with iTunes, it proceeds to tell me that it is installing "Natrual Voice Text to Speech Reader Standard". After a moment, it shows this -
When I click "Cancel", it proceeds to show the same thing all over again.I have to end the task in Windows Task Manager to get the box to go away, and this closes iTunes with it. iTunes still works when the box is present, but the iPod is not recognized in iTunes.
Thinking this could be a virus, I ran antivirus scans on the computer and the iPod. Nothing showed up.
At this point, what should I do?

  • ITunes/iPod displays album tracks out of order

I have this weird problem where one of my albums has three tracks that display out of order.
    http://i55.tinypic.com/mtwf0x.png
I can't think of anything in the tags that would cause this. They're all identical in terms of album/artist/# of tracks...
But this causes a wierd problem with another album
    http://i55.tinypic.com/xmvh2e.png
The three out of place tracks go there when I order by album. On my iPod in album view, Black Symphony gets displayed in the Bs, but then in the Hs, it'll show up as a full listing again like this:
    Heart of Everything
    Black Symphony
    Heart of Everything
    Black Symphony
    Heart of Everything
    Black Symphony
Going into each album will have the full list. Heart of Everything displays its tracks in order, but each entry for Black Symphony will have the full listing with tracks 9, 15 and 21 at the bottom of the track list.
Any idea what would cause this issue?

Holy frigging crap that was it! I didn't even think to look under the sorting tab! No idea how that got set anyway since they're all from the iTunes store. Anyway, apart from those three tracks, Black Symphony had the Sort Album field empty. I cleared it on those three tracks and everything is normal now. Thank you!

  • Weird iTunes/iPod/Podcast interaction

I've noticed something weird a few times now, when a podcast gets posted, but there's a serious problem and it gets re-posted.
I have seen reposts on the "Coverville" Podcast, but it has never had this issue, (and the repost always has "Repost" at the start of the description.)
but on "This Week in Media" episode 118 got posted, with some serious audio issues, and it appears to have gotten reposted, and there are now two identical entries under the podcast. iTunes seems to understand that those are two separate entries and audio files, but my iPod Classic 80GB does not.
wheras iTunes shows one of the two entries as new, the iPod showed both copies of show 118 as new, and both of them play the older, (non-fixed) version. there are even two speaker icons for the two entries on the menu as it plays.
Is there any way to resolve this issue? or am I going to have to wait for new firmware?

I've just looked on the iTunes Store and there is now only episode 118 of "The Week In Media", so presumably the Podcast's producers have removed the faulty file.

  • ITunes / iPod having problems with lyrics in MP3 files and not with M4A ?

Over the last two month (without this forum) I believed sometimes to be the only one having a weird problems with iTunes lyric format structure.
Now after more than 50h of investigations interesting results appear.
    The field of trouble:
    a) People are not able to delete lyrics in iTunes
    b) People discover that iTunes and their iPod/iPhone do not show the same lyrics
    c) it seems that the lyrics of certain songs can't synchronised with the iPod
    d) it seems that the problem in iTunes can appear more than one times that itunes corrupts the contents of lyrics in a way that:
    e) the text structure is damaged, no more line breaks, no empty lines between text sections.
After all my suspicion is: All of this trouble can be caused by one problem:
iTunes (at least latest version 9.0.3 (15) has a -unkonwn- problem with the lyric-text structure in MP3-files. It seems that iTunes does not have the same problems if the file is in M4A-file format, created by apple-store files being downloaded, or CDs being converten in iTunes using the build in AAC-converter!
Converting "infected" files (via AAC) to M4A are clean again (on iTunes and iPod) showing no more one of the trouble ahead. The ghost is eliminated. Everything synchronizes as it should be.
And I for myself have to convert more than 3000 songs now... to ged rid of this nightmare.
Now I'm very curious of You experiences. Can You confirm my suspicion? Or have You had similar problems with Your M4A-files too?
    - Best Regards ThomasK_DJ, south Germany

Try this -> http://mp3val.sourceforge.net/ to verify and fix MP3 files.
Also, it could be the version of the ID3 tags.
Select a song in iTunes then go to iTunes menu Advanced -> Convert ID3 tags and select a different version and see what happens.

  • Can I change iTunes & iPod display font (not font size) for selected files only?

I loaded a Russian classical music CD into iTunes and iPod. On the original CD, titles, names etc. are written in cyrillic alphabet.  Once I loaded the CD into iTunes and on iPod this info was displayed unreadably in western alphabet.  Example:  "Èæå õåðóâèìû..." (Í. Ãîëîâàíîâ)Õîð È.
I have cyrillic font on my Windows 7 computer.  Can I change the display font--for only these selected iTunes music files--to the cyrillic font?  Thanks!

Does any one know how you can adjust the font size (point size) for the file
    names.
Sadly enough you can't chance that, feel free to add a feature request for
that, the more there ask for the bigger chance it will be realized.
It would be great if the colors for the image name (background and font color)
could be changed so the contrast could also be increased so it is also easier
    to read.
And this the cheerful part, go to Bridge preferences General tap and play
with the sliders for user interface and Image Backdrop until your satisfied.
BTW using the slider for thumbnail size bottom right of the Bridge window to
increase the thumbs does not increase the font but makes it nevertheless a
    little clearer.

  • I think I found out what the iTunes + iPod update problem is

    All,
I spent some more time trying to figure out what exactly this iPod update/iTunes problem is and I think I discovered something interesting.
I can manually sync my MP3's but not my AAC files. When I sync MP3's - iTunes and the iPod are fine. However, as soon as I attempt to sync even one Protected AAC file, iTunes bombs.
I'd be interested in seeing if others try this and get the same results. If this is the core problem, syncing protected or AAC files, then we may be able figure out the exact component that has botched everything up here.
    Chris

RE: manual sync - I mean manual copying through iTunes. That is - not selecting to update the songs automatically. I drag them from my library to the iPod within iTunes so I have control what goes there.
Bummer - I thought I was on to something. All I can say is that I can sync anything but the Protected AAC's. When I let it automatically sync my iPod, iTunes bombed. When I selected manual syncing and moved a playlist, it bombed after a few songs. I tried to look into why it would stop on certain songs, and noticed that it was bombing on the protected AAC's. So, I copied over 1000 MP3's including songs and podcasts, and they copied successfully. I selected one AAC and immediately it bombed.
Maybe our problems are not the same?

  • ITunes Visualizer display problem

I have not had any issues with my new Intel iMac until today when I tried to play some songs with my kids and turn the visualizer to full screen in iTunes. The Visualizer works fine in all window sizes but when I click full screen the screen goes black while the music continues to play. It is very strange because while nothing will get it back to the normal view (escape, clicking the mouse, etc) I can change the song in the library by moving the mouse and clicking randomly (I can't see the cursor at all). Apparently the cursor is still active yet nothing is on the display.
The only way I can get this to end is to put the computer to sleep by pushing the power button at which point it wakes up normally and resumes normal operation until the next time I try the full screen visualizer. No restart is needed to correct it.
I decided to post this here rather than the iTunes forum because I thought it might relate to some of the graphics issues that 20"Intel iMac users have experienced.
Has anyone else had this issue? Could someone try it out to see if it happens to other machines like the video tearing issue? I will also report this to Apple directly but wanted to see if anyone else has this issue.
    Thanks

  • ITunes/iPod/USB problem after installing AVG 8.0 Antivirus

    Hi,
I have recently installed AVG 8.0 as a replacement to my pevious Antivirus software. I now seem to have some kind of a problem with 'disappearing' USB attached storage.
The first problem I had, was that my Walkman was no longer recognised. I resolved this by uninstalling it in 'Device Manager' and then running 'Add Hardware'. Windows successfully found the new hardware and installed it OK. My big problem is that the same thing is happening to my three iPods (Shuffle, Touch and 30Gb Video). When I connect them, iTunes detects them, opens and then seems to perform the usual software version check OK. However, if I then try to tranfer a track to them, or delete a track, I get the message 'Disk not found'. I have updated iTunes to 8.01, but that hasn't resolved the problem. I have also tried uninstalling the iPods and then letting Windows install them again. This doesn't resolve the issue either. The iPods have the most current software update loaded onto each of them. My Windows XP Home is running SP3 and all of the current Critical Updates. There is no other unexpected behaviour by the PC.
I have searched around and there is talk of some kind of (possible) AVG 8.0 related problem, but I can't find a resolution. Please can anyone help. Thanks in advance.
    Ian

I have exactly the same problem since downloading the upgrade earlier today. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled to try to fix it but all I keep getting after it has nearly completed loading (which takes a frustrating amount of time each time) is a repeat instruction to re-boot in order to complete the configuration and I've had enough of the endless 'loop' that you refer to. It worked fine before the upgrade but I can't go back!

  • Weird iTunes and podcast problem

I'm having a weird issue with one of the weekly podcasts I'm subscribed to. It's encoded in 320kbps AAC, when the episode downloads I then convert it to 192 kbps. After the conversion, for whatever reason it puts the episode in my music section instead of podcasts. I do this with other podcasts, and I can always go in and change the media type back to podcast and it shows up back in the correct section. This particular show will not allow me to change the media type without turning off itunes match. After doing so, I change the type, it shows up in podcasts, turn itunes match back on, then a few minutes later it removes my type and puts it back in music?? Any ideas? As I mentioned, I do this with other shows without any problems

  • ITunes-iPod touch problems, can't add music to my iPod

When I plug in my iPod to the computer and start up iTunes, it says it must be set up when it already is. I've tried reinstalling iTunes, but it still says this very same thing. What's going on ?
My iOS is 6.1.3 on a 4th gen iPod touch.
I have 3 cloud backups and 1 iTunes backup available.

Try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • Please help me! - really weird mac mini display problem.

Ok this is just too WEIRD.
i have a brand new 1.42ghz mini (512mb ram and wireless) with a sony SDM-HS75 LCD. This is an analogue LCD and im using the supplied apple VGA adaptor.
•before i continue i will say that i have hooked up the lcd to numerous other macs and the screen and cable are fine. i have no dimmer switches on my lighting, i have no objects placed on the mini (like a cell phone etc)
when i first set up my mini the video output was murky and grey and noisy across the screen. Then i discovered the setup utility on the CD that came with the sony screen. i ran it (it displays a grid calibration thing) and discovered the "phase" adjustment on the sony's on screen menu. i managed to adjust out the fuziness and noise and the image quality was then perfect.
heres where it gets weird. the point at which the monitor is in phase with the video signal shifts around all the time! i mean - i get the phase set at say 43 out of 100 on the adjustment scale and the next time i restart i need to shift it to 73 to get rid of the blur and the noise on the display.
Also, the using airport affects the display and knocks it out of phase - i dont use wireless but if i activate it i can see a difference instantly.
this is really strange and i cant see a solution.

Is this a new-ish LCD? Many newer LCDs will have an auto adjust option or button to set the phase and fine tuning for you so you don't have to do it yourself.
